Despite having a week of dungeon detention, Greenly and her friends were enjoying the school year so far. It was already rehearsals day for the Legacy Day Ceremony. All the second years were ready, well, almost all the second years.
"So, you ready for this?" Greenly asked Raven.
"I don't know if I should dignify that with a response." Raven replied.
Greenly patted her friend's shoulder. "Don't worry, Raven. I know it seems like a big deal. But the less you think about it, the less of a big deal it really is." She smiled. "I just know you'll be fine no matter what you do."
"Do you really think so?" Raven asked with hope in her heart.
"Trust me. It'll be easy-peasy!" Greenly grinned.
After several students have done their rehearsals, it was finally Greenly's turn. And despite the many students not paying attention to her, she was just as excited as any proud royal! This was going to be the moment that she's been practicing for her whole life. She envisioned herself, dressed in her most fairest, standing amongst the entire student body as she declared her destiny to the world. The princess approached the podium holding a rule book being used as a prop for the Storybook of Legends. She took a deep breath and began her speech.
"I am Greenly Pea, daughter of The Princess and the Pea. And with the strength of my character and the size my noble heart, I pledge to follow my destiny as the next Princess and the Pea, a timeless story that will live with me forever after."
"WOOOOOOO! ALRIGHT, GREENLY!" Amber cheered loud enough so everyone heard her. And she wasn't the only one cheering. Ian, Bentley, even Apple cheered as well!
"Alright, students. Settle down!" said Headmaster Grimm. Greenly grinned ear to ear as she went back to the group.
Apple approached Greenly wih a hand over her heart. "Greenly, that was the most enchanting speech I've ever heard!"
"Thanks, Apple." Greenly smiled.
After several more students, it was finally Raven's turn. "I'm Raven Queen. And I pledge to follow my destiny as..." She hesitated to continue, making Greenly feel a twinge of guilt. Was Raven really going to refuse to sign?!
'No, it couldn't be.' Greenly thought, trying to calm herself down. 'Raven will sign. It's no big deal. I mean, sure, if she signs, she'll become the ultimate evil and probably never be my friend again. But at least she's doing the right thing-"
"What if I don't...want to take the pledge?" Raven asked the headmaster.
Gasps were heard in every direction. Greenly's heart sank like a rock. She felt like she was about to faint. Her of all people. Greenly couldn't hear the several voices around her. Her mind was too hazy from all the guilt she was feeling.
'What have I done?!' Greenly screamed in her head. 'This is all my fault! All my-'
"I have to go." said Raven's voice. Greenly managed to stay conscious and watch Raven walk away. Feeling terrified, Greenly looked at her hands. They were visibly shaking. She hugged herself and took several deep breathes.
"Greenly, are you okay?"
Greenly turned and saw Amber, Ian and Bentley looking worried. "You look pale." said Amber.
"I guess even you'd be shook up by that." Ian said.
"I can't believe Raven doesn't want to sign!" Bentley exclaimed.
Greenly held her hands up. "Whoa! Hold on, you guys! Who said Raven's not gonna sign?" she protested. "I'm sure she's just pulling our legs!"
Amber tilted her head. "Pulling our legs?" she said with much doubt.
"Yeah! I mean, come on! She is the future Evil Queen after all! And what's more evil than scaring everyone into thinking she's not going to sign?" Greenly managed to chuckle a little. "Yeah, she's got us pretty good!"
"I don't think she was joking." said Ian. "I know a con when I see one. Besides, Raven's too nice to do something that evil."
"Look, Raven's joking and that's all there is to it!" Greenly retorted rather harshly. "She'll sign! Just wait and see!" She spun around and walked away, only to bump right into Raoul Sapphire again. Greenly gasped, as did her friends. He still had that stone-faced look as he stared at the princess.
But Greenly's shock faded in seconds. She was too angry to be instilled with fear. "Get out of my way, you big ox!" she snapped.
Now even more gasps were heard. Greenly growled as she stomped away. Everyone was in total shock. Even Raoul looked surprised.
"Did she just...!?" Bentley said in a shaky breath.
"Yeah, she did." Ian said with shock on his face.
Amber kicked up her wings and flew right up to Raoul's face. "Look, buddy. I don't know what's eating Greenly. But you better not lay a finger on her! Or I'll rip you apart and feed you to wild animals!" The dark fairy flew right by Greenly's side, looking back with an icy glare to make sure the villain didn't try anything. Raoul's face went back to stone. He walked away without a single word. Ian and Bentley decided to join Greenly and Amber. And fast.
"Greenly, are you sure you're okay?" asked Bentley.
"Guys, I'm fine." Greenly lied. "I'm just...cheesed that Raven would scare us like that!"
"I'm still not convinced she was joking." said Ian. "I mean, anything can happen in this world. And I mean anything..." He looked to the side and saw Cerise Hood walking along. Ian kept staring at the hooded girl until he stumbled over a crack in the pavement. Fortunately, he was able to catch himself before falling on his face.
Amber noticed this. "Are you checking out Cerise?"
"What?! NO!" Ian blurted out.
"Then why were you staring at her?" asked the fairy.
"Dude! It's about time you started noticing girls!" Bentley said happily. "Cerise would be perfect for you!"
"Did you blow your brains out with your horn?" asked Ian. "No, she would not."
"Yes, she would! She's a very rare breed of babe. A cool, mysterious beauty wrapped in a veil of red enchanment!" Bentley sighed lovingly.
"You've really gone whole hog on Advanced Wooing, haven't you?" asked Amber.
Bentley winked. "You know it! And it'll pay of off when I woo the girl of my dreams!"
Ian rolled his eyes. "Oh, boy. Who is it this time?"
As Bentley explained, Greenly wasn't listening. She was too upset to talk about romance or wooing.
Okay, so, Raven doesn't want to be the next Evil Queen and it was all my fault for encouraging her. Just when I thought everything was going to be smooth sailing, I get an ogre-sized slap in the face because I believe that with less evil in the world, the world will be a better place. How can I possibly live with myself knowing that I inspired a significant fairytale character to rebel?! But then again, unlike most royals, I had real integrity. Which means I didn't have to act like a snobby kiss-up to be a somebody.
But what was more important? Upholding royal tradition? Or my integrity? I was completely throne for a loop.
Well, little did I know that things were about to get worse...
