It was the day before Legacy Day and the excitement was killing Greenly! She was so excited, she was even looking forward to the big Legacy Day dance that Briar was planning! It seemed like everything was going easy-peasy for Greenly. And best of all, she could feel herself and Dexter becoming closer than ever! Greenly was so happy, she couldn't help but chat with her friends about it at lunch.
"Wow! So, you and Dexter Charming are a thing now?" asked Amber.
"No, Am. It's too soon for us to date. With Legacy Day coming up, we've got enough pressure going on. So, once the hype dies down, I'll make my move and Dexter and I will be together." Greenly squealed. "I can see it all now! Me and Dexter! We'll be sweet and cozy like two little peas in a pod! We'll be the best looking couple in school!"
"Really? Even better than Apple and Daring?" asked Ian. "Cause if you think you can outshine that power couple, forget it."
"Dude, Apple and Daring aren't even an item. Daring said it himself. He wants to enjoy his single life to the fullest." said Bentley. "If you ask me, he and Apple should enjoy their high school days together as a couple. I mean, if you're going to be the future king and queen of Ever After, close the deal and start dating already!"
"Speaking of dating, did you ask Cupid out yet?" Amber asked Bentley.
Bentley shook his head. "Not yet. I still need to play my cards right. For now, Cupid and I are just work buds. I play romantic tunes for her radio show and she provides love advice for all those lovesick souls." Bentley sighed. "That woman's a genius."
Amber grew a little half smile. "And speaking of work buds..."
Everyone stared as Dave Quixote walked over to Amber holding a jar of snails. His entire body was caked with mud and twigs. He smiled as he gave Amber the jar. "I came back with your ingredient, Honey."
"Oh, thank you, angel-puss." Amber blew a kiss to teen, making him blush. "These will be perfect for Home-Evilnomics! Now, go get yourself cleaned up so I can give you a real kiss."
Dave grinned like a clown as he skipped out of the castleteria, leaving a trail of mud in his path.
Greenly looked at Amber, dumbfounded. "What was that all about?"
Amber wore a triumphant look as she slipped the jar of slug slime in her purse. "Well, if you must know and I know you must, Dave is head over heels for me. And he's always willing to lend me a hand."
"Wow! I didn't know you were into dating, Amber." said Bentley. "It doesn't seem like your kind of thing."
Amber shrugged. "Hey, it never hurts to try new things. She looked at Ian, who was calmly sipping his milk. "Speaking of dating, Ian, what's this thing going on with you and Cerise?"
Ian spat out his milk. "What?!"
Amber rolled his eyes. "Oh, come on, dude. I saw you and Cerise chatting the other day when we were in the Enchanted Forest."
"It's not my fault! Trixie and Cerise's direwolf Carmine starting sniffing each other and we couldn't pull them apart! So, Cerise and I were forced to chat with each other."
"Well, a wolf and a fox aren't all that different when you think about it." Greenly said between bites of salad.
"Who knows? Maybe it's a sign." Amber teased.
Ian smacked his hand on the table. "No, it's not. Cerise is not the girl for me. Besides, I don't think her family would approve of me."
"Oh, come on, Ian. You don't know that." said Greenly. "We all know you're a great guy. I'm sure Cerise's folks would like you too."
Ian spotted Cerise sitting all by herself with a tray full of sausages and hamburgers without the buns. He watched the Hood devour the meat in a voracious manner. It was like watching a wild animal eat a smaller animal's corpse. 'Yeah, Cerise's folks will like me alright, especially her dad.' Ian thought. 'He'll like me medium rare...'
The day when Ian opened Cerise's locket will always be the biggest regret of his life. As far back as Ian could remember, Ian had the biggest crush on Cerise. But he was always too shy to make the move on her. But for some reason, when Ian managed to muster enough courage to go near her, something would always make him retreat.
Now it all makes sense. It wasn't just shyness keeping Ian at bay, it was also the fact that Cerise was half-wolf. Because of his story, Ian always felt a sense of dread whenever a wolf was near. Heart pumping from his thorax. Sweat beading on his entire body. And the sense of impending doom that made him want to run.
Bentley nudged his friend. "You okay, bro?"
"Huh?" Ian blinked twice. Yeah, I-I'm good."
Amber slapped her hands on the table. "Anyway, it's the day before Legacy Day! What should we do? Another epic prank?"
"No way." Greenly, Ian, and Bentley said together.
"Besides, tomorrow's the biggest day of the rest of our lives!" Greenly reminded them. "We need to take it easy and plenty of rest!"
Amber shrugged. "Fair enough."
Later that day, Greenly went to her locker. It was time for Good Kingdom Management class. When she opened her locker, she was surprised to see an envelope sticking out in between her textbooks. She took the leter and opened it. When she read it's cotents, she almost cried.
My lovely Greenly, Legacy Day is near.
But it's nothing compared to my love for you, my dear.
It's time for our love to be official, near and far.
Meet me on the west balcony at eight for a picnic under the stars.
Charmingly yours, Dexter.
Greenly felt like her heart was going to burst with joy. The prince of her dreams was going to become her official boyfriend. Her personal happily ever after was coming true! Greenly couldn't help but jump with joy. "This is the single best day of my LIFE!" She quickly covered her mouth and looked around. A few people stared at her, but promptly went back to minding their own business. Greenly stuffed the letter into her purse and grabbed her texbook before slamming her locker shut.
"What should I wear?!" As Greenly pondered on what to wear, her phone pinged. She checked it and saw a photo sent from Amber. It was a selfie of her in her dorm room. But next to her was Blondie hanging from the ceiling in a net with an angry look on her face while Amber's bat Luna pulled a strand of Blondie's hair with her teeth. Greenly read the text;
Nosy Lockes tried to go through my stuff. This net was just right! LOL!
Greenly rolled her eyes.
