A/N: I'm sorry it's taken so long to update! I promise the next chapter will be up soon. I hope you're all still with me. As always, let me know what you think!

The crime scene was an apartment across town and Jane and Maura met Frost and Korsak outside the building.

"What've we got?" Jane asked them.

"Three victims," Korsak told her. "A husband and wife and their young daughter. They all died from gunshot wounds to the head."

Jane squeezed Maura's hand as they walked up to the victims' apartment, knowing it always got to her a little when there was a child. They entered the apartment and saw the three victims. The woman and little girl were seated on the couch, almost as if they could just be watching TV. The man was on the floor, blood splattered all over the wall behind him. The detectives and the medical examiner got to work alongside the Crime Scene Unit, taking care to gather as much evidence as possible from the scene. Jane and Korsak were going over possible reenactments.

"Dr. Isles?" Jane heard Frost call out.

Jane looked up, but didn't see Maura anywhere. She noticed Frost looking toward the open door that led out of the apartment and walked over to him.

"What's up, Frost?" she asked.

"Dr. Isles was talking to me about the gun that was used and then she just took off running out the door," he replied, perplexed.

"I'll go check on her," Jane said. "She wasn't feeling well this morning."

Jane went outside and took the stairs down to the courtyard. She saw Maura across the way, throwing up into some bushes. By the time she reached her, Maura was sitting in the grass, her face buried into the sweater she had taken off.

"Revisiting your college days?" Jane joked, kneeling beside Maura.

"Brain matter," Maura groaned.

Jane shuddered and placed a hand on Maura's shoulder.

"That stuff doesn't usually bother you," she said. "Maybe you're coming down with something."

She pressed the back of her hand against Maura's forehead.

"You don't have a fever, though, I don't think. Are you sure you don't want to take the day off? I'll drive you home."

"No, it's okay, Jane. It was just a little nausea. I'll be fine. Let's get back in there and finish up."

A few hours later, back at the station, Jane discussed the case with Korsak and Frost and her little brother, Frankie.

"I still say we look into the wife," Korsak said. "She was probably having an affair and the guy got sick of not having her to himself."

"That's not fair," Jane snapped. "The husband was likely running drugs or gambling or something and somewhere, he made a mistake that got them all killed."

"They had a four-year-old daughter," Frost pointed out. "I don't see how they could have had time to be involved in any of those things."

"So, where do we start?" Frankie asked.

"I'll go talk to Mrs. Cornell's sister," Korsak said.

"Jeff Cornell worked at an auto body shop. Let's go," Jane told Frost.

"What am I supposed to do?"

"Frankie, go over the laptop, see if you can find anything," Jane ordered.

Frankie went to look at the victims' computer and Frost and Korsak headed back to their desks to get ready to go. Jane leaned back in her desk chair, closing her eyes and stretching her arms behind her head. They hadn't heard anything from Maura all day and she wondered how she was doing.

"Ready to go?" Frost's voice came from above her.

"Yeah, I just want to go down and check on Maura. It won't take long," she said.

"Guess it would be good to know if she's found anything," Frost agreed.

"Yeah," Jane said quickly. "That's why I'm going down there."

She turned quickly away from Barry in an attempt to conceal her suddenly flushed face and hurried down to the morgue. Maura was in the autopsy room, working on Stacey Cornell.

"I haven't gotten the ballistics on the bullet back yet," Maura said quickly.

"I don't care about that right now," Jane blurted.

"You don't?" Maura asked curiously, finally looking up from the body.

"I mean, obviously I care about solving the case, Maura, but first I want to make sure that you're alright."

"I'm fine, Jane. It was just a little nausea from drinking too much last night. I need to get on with the autopsy if you all would like any results today."

"Okay," Jane said skeptically, "but let me know if you need anything."

Maura watched Jane leave the morgue and felt a little guilty about sending her away, but she did really want to be alone and finish the autopsies so they could find out who would kill such an adorable little girl and her parents. She got back to work, pushing all thoughts of Jane and her queasy stomach aside and focusing on the bodies on her tables. The autopsies would be easy and the causes of death were clear, but she needed to find any defensive wounds or ligature marks that might point to how this murder scene played out. It didn't take her long to find exactly what she was looking for. Dr. Maura Isles was nothing less than excellent at her job, even when she was sick. She headed to check the results from the bullets.

Luckily, the ballistics were in. All three victims had been shot with a .40 caliber pistol. Maura pulled out her phone to send a text to Jane, but stopped halfway through, deciding to keep some distance from Jane for a little while. She texted Korsak instead.

Korsak was just leaving the home of Stacey Cornell's sister when he read Maura's text and called to let Frost and Jane know.

"Maura's got something. You two get any information from Cornell's job?"

"She called you?" Jane asked.

"Whatever you two are fighting about, can't it wait until we find this family's killer?" Korsak sounded impatient.

"But we aren't fighting!" Jane whined in protest.

"Let's just go see what she's got, Jane," Frost suggested, trying to keep the peace. "We'll meet you in Dr. Isles' office in fifteen minutes," he told Korsak.

Jane rolled her eyes, still confused at Maura's actions, but drove back to the station and followed Frost to the elevator. They headed straight for Maura's office, where she greeted them with barely a look up from her desk before starting in on what they needed to know.
