Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade

Journey Among The Plains

Prologue – Found on the Plains

You know for some people it just seems like their lives are just perfect?

There's nothing holding them back? No burden on their shoulders to weight them down?

Something that prevents them from running free; to pursue their dreams or just be themselves?

Sometimes I believe that weight is ourselves… I know it is for me.

My name is Lucas Morrigan.

And this story is how I removed that weight and now… I live free and with a beautiful family and loving wife.

Here's how that story began…

(12:00 PM – University Dormitory)

It's the middle of the day as a young college freshman, only 18 years old by the name of Lucas Morrigan is deep asleep in his bed.

It's one of his few off days from classes and so he likes to sleep in as much as he can. A bad habit he never kicked from his days growing up.

However for him this day he had slid to close to the edge and in one more small movement he found himself tumbling right off the side of the bed!

*THUNK!*

"Aaah, hell… that hurt…" Lucas moaned in pain as he held his head. Getting himself off the ground he rubbed his eyes and looked around his dorm room. Heading for the bathroom he began his morning routine of getting ready for the day.

As it was still the winter deep into December with the New Year just around the corner; Lucas grabbed his favorite hoodie to keep warm. He looked around one more time at his room. Lining his shelves were music discs, sheet music, history books, games, and his favorite collection of all: his Fire Emblem series.

His most favorite one being his first one ever, Blazing Blade.

"Well time to enjoy what nature I can." Lucas said to himself as he turned out the light and headed out to spend this day of relaxation.

Finding a nice quiet corner of the campus park, Lucas finally sat down on a bench and began to enjoy the warm breakfast sandwich he had gotten from the cafeteria. As well as the coffee to keep him warm.

As he got into his comfort zone he began to take out his headphones and began to play 'Calm Winds Over Gentle Waters' from Three Houses.

Despite the obvious somber and sad overtones of the song, Lucas always found comfort in the tune as it still had quite the calming effect on him as it came off as a kind of lullaby.

For Lucas finding respite has always been hard. Ever since the death of his grandmother and father in such quick succession his emotional state for a time was not… the greatest.

It also didn't help that he also had a strained relationship with his mother and step-father that hasn't been addressed in some time.

Ever since coming to college however the experience has been able to take Lucas' mind off those things and allow him some times of respite to clear his head.

Finally relaxing Lucas took the sketchbool he'd brought with him and began to draw what came to his mind.

The book contained several drawings he's already had; most of them from Fire Emblem games in particular such as the Blue Lions' emblem, several of the series' logos, and several characters; such as Camus, Reinhart, Elincia… and his newest creation he was in the middle of being Lyn from Blazing Blade.

As Lucas lost himself in his work he felt a tap on his shoulder, the contact breaking his train of thought he took out his headphones and turned to meet the face of his friend, Linda.

"Hey there Luke, so what ya' doing? ~" She asks in a teasing manner.

"Well before you inhterrupted me. I was drawing in relative peace no more thanks to you." Lucas answered.

Linda then looked over to see that he was drawing Lyn, his most talked about video game character.

"Ah, another waifu is it today?" Linda again teased.

"Shut up, I have plenty of other characters in this book. Don't even try and start that with me." Lucas replied with a little annoyance in his voice.

"Hey, don't get touchy just saying is all. But I do have something important to ask." Linda said.

"That being?" Lucas asked his interest slightly peaked.

"You remember that new girl, Rebecca in our class my old pal from high school who just transferred in?" Lucas nodded in reply.

"Good, could you maybe uhhh… tutor her in History? Please?! You're like a history book with two feet. I'd really appreciate it!" Linda begged as she put her hands together in a praying motion.

"Haaah again? Fine, but just like last time you owe me… big." Lucas acquiesced even though internally he didn't want to.

"Thanks for this I will pay you back. Besides, who knows maybe you and Rebecca might get along this weekend hmm? ~" Linda said with a wiggle of her brow.

"Goodbye Linda." Lucas replied as he gathered his stuff and headed back to his dorm room now that his peace and quiet had been ruined.

"Haaah… maybe killing some peons in Fire Emblem will sate my nerves." Lucas said to himself with a tired voice.

After several hours of playing Sacred Stones and finally Blazing Blade, he saw the end credits go by he happened to take a look at his clock which had both the time and date on them: 11:58 , December 31st .

"Looks like all those fancy fireworks shows and ball drops are gonna start soon. Well I skipped about every exciting event in my life at school… I can afford another." Lucas said to himself as he laid out his bed. Remembering all the times he skipped out on such social events.

11:59…

"Everyone's probably counting down by now…" Lucas powered off his Nintendo DS, as he began to relax hi body and sink into his bed. Lucas always enjoyed the comfort of sleep; the soft sheets wrapped around him. It felt protective in a sense.

As he closed his eyes with only seconds to go before the New Year came in he finally closed them just as the first fireworks were shot into the air…

(Wide-Open Plains)

High atop a hill on the plains of Sacae we see a young teenage girl about 17-years-old. Her name was Lyn of the Lorca tribe. She looks out at the plains she has called home nearly all her life. Her two horses graze close behind her. One she uses for riding the other for carrying any equipment she needs.

The high hill gives her a good spot to enjoy the crisp morning air and peaceful quiet of the plains she's known.

However on this day from that hill she' always climbed she sees out in the distance a figure lying on the ground motionless.

With both caution and worry she mounts one of her horses while pulling the reins of the other to follow as she makes her way to the unmoving figure in the distance…

Lucas finally came to as he stirred out of bed, but as he looked at his bed he noticed that well… it looked nothing like his bed back at college!

Draped over him was blankets and fur covers. As he stirred however he got the attention of his savior.

"Oh, you're finally awake. I found you unconscious on the plains. Are you feeling better?" The girl was beautiful to say the least.

She wore a blue tunic with gold trim and a decorated collar. The skirt had slits that showed off her strong, yet slender legs. She also wore a green jewel in her hair. Brown boots and leather gloves covered his feet and hands. Round her body hung a sash, where he heard the clinking of a sword at her hip.

Lucas rubbed his eyes over and over until his vision cleared and his headache from before receded. It was Lyn… from Blazing Blade! Still slightly groggy he replied in kind, "Thank you… is this… Sacae?"

"Yes, I saw you out in the open plain unconscious and I couldn't leave you like that. I can tell from your clothes you're not from here?" Lyn inquired.

Lucas looked down to see he was wearing an all-to-familiar green cloak, "My clothes… so I really am…" He said aloud in disbelief.

"You seem to be fine. Can you tell me your name if you remember it?" Lyn asked as she hands you a cup with water in it.

Taking a quick drink to parch his throat Lucas replies, " Lucas… my name is Lucas."

"Your name is Lucas? What an odd-sounding name. But pay me no mind. It is a good name. I can see from your clothes you are a traveler. What brought you out here to the Sacae Plains can you tell me your story by chance?" Lyn asked but just as Lucas was about to reply a loud noise from outside pierced the tent.

The sound of loud bickering and screaming could now be heard; "Hm, what was that noise? I'll go and check it out." Lyn took her sword with her as she went outside to check on the situation.

"Bandits! They must be coming from the Bern Mountain! I have to stop the3m or they'll raid one of the local villages!" Lyn came back to inform Lucas. "Stay here it'll be safer inside for you Lucas, it's only two of them I should be able to deal with them."

Lyn went to leave, but Lucas then spotted the vulnerary she nearly forgot. Lucas quickly grabbed the bottle of medicine and ran out to inform her.

"Lyn, your vulnerary!" Lyn stopped as she saw him hand her the medicine.

"How did… no that's not important now. But Lucas what're you doing, you should hide hide." Lyn tried to warn him.

"I can help actually I'm… a strategist by trade. I don't know fighting, but I can guide you… as best I can." Lucas with not much confidence to his voice.

"Ah, I see… a strategist by trade. An odd profession, I had thought you a mage with that tome you carry by your side. But even so… let's go do this together!" Lyn said with confidence as she headed outside.

"Huh, tome? What does she…?" Lucas questioned her as he looked to his body and saw that he did indeed have a small satchel attached to his side carrying what appeared to be tomes inside.

"But… I don't know magic… never mind; I've got to help Lyn first." Lucas shook his head as he raced outside with Lyn to see Lyn was already battling with one of the bandits; the one in the open field in particular.

She was already pouring the medicine on the mild wound she received from the Bandit's axe as she angrily muttered to herself, "He got lucky…"

"Lyn! Are you okay?! You shouldn't rush like that; these guys maybe bandits but if you underestimate them it wouldn't be good." Lucas warns her as her wound heals.

"Yes, you're right. I did rush off, then Lucas please… give me your advice. There's still another bandit over there. What should I do, you think?" Lyn inquired of the "strategist"

"Well he still looks dangerous. But bandits like to underestimate their opponents, he'll probably gloat at you so when he leaves himself open… that's your chance to strike back." Lucas gave his best impression on the Sacae swordswoman.

"I see, I'll follow your advice. So stay back, and should anything happen to me Lucas, please run away from here." Lyn begged him.

"A-alright Lyn, I understand. But still this tome… I've never had this before and it certainly doesn't look like any tome I've seen before." Lucas brought himself out of his thoughts as he ran to join Lyn as he watched her confront Batta.

"Bwaha! You, a girl, wanna challenge Batta the Beast!?" The large bandit exclaimed, laughing menacingly.

"In fact…" Batta then began to look up and down Lyn's body with his eyes as if undressing her with them. Lyn slightly shuddered under his disgusting gaze as he kept on bragging about what he was going to do to her.

"Well it is as Lucas said, he's underestimating me. I know I shouldn't put everything into the words of a stranger, but the way he spoke… I can trust him." Lyn patiently fought her instinct to strike first and awaited Batta's attack.

True enough, Batta roared as he came in for a heavy blow but with swuch a telegraphed attack Lyn was able to easily dodge out of the way of it.

Batta struggled to remove his axe from the dirt as he came to and looked to see his prey was gone, "Argh, I'm off today… huh? Where'd she go!?"

"Goodbye…" In one word Lyn had gone through in a flash and had reappeared in front of him on one knee. A large gash then appeared Batta's chest as blood started to leak out with him falling to one knee and then flat on his stomach.

"But how… she was just… one girl…gah…" Batta drew his last breath as he lay dead. Lucas had already seen a dead body. After the death of his father he had to witness the state it was left in when he was killed in the line of duty during the trial of his killer.

But this felt different. What was once but an animation of pixels, was now much, much more surreal and imposing.

Lyn finally took a breath and approached Lucas to thank him, "Hah, thank you for your sage advice. I would've underestimated if not for you. Sorry if I worried you at all."

She finally said to herself, "I'll need to get stronger to survive… so that no one can defeat me."

"Lyn…" Lucas said hearing the young girl's words.

"Well we're victorious this day. Let's go home, Lucas. I'm sure you must still be tired, you had only just awoken when I found you." Lyn said as she put her hand on his shoulder.

"Y-yeah, let's go home…" Lucas replied as both of them headed back to her ger and the two decided to share a small meal together. After they finished eating, they both decided to head for the river to soak and bathe. More so for Lyn to clean off the blood from her clothes and the sweat permeating her body.

After returning both of them headed to bed with Lucas insisting on taking on the floor while Lyn took the bed. Using a small cot she carried they both fell off to sleep as they night went by. The morning sun rose hours later as it's light shined through the veiled entrance of the hut.

Lucas once again stirred awake to be greeted by Lyn, "Good morning Lucas. You sure are a heavy sleeper I can see. Are you well-rested now?"

"I can tell that fight took a lot out of you. The nerves must still be fresh." Lucas nodded in reply. To see fighting like that and know what's ahead the young man could only shudder for what's to come.

"Say Lucas… I want to talk to you about something. After that battle yesterday, I can tell I'm still inexperienced in the ways of fighting. And with your experience in the ways of war… well… would you let me go with you?" Lyn asked the young man.

"Go with me? On a journey? I… I don't know Lyn that seems rather dangerous… are you sure about this?" Lucas asked.

"I can tell… you probably have been wondering, why it is I'm all alone?" Lucas then went silent as he say Lyn's expression go from neutral as her face began to squint and she teared up as she choked trying to tell her story.

Lucas then did all he could think of and embraced her as she let out her tears. For Lucas it was one thing to hear of her story, but now to feel the pain of it was something truly surreal.

"Just let it all out… THEN you can tell me all about it." Luas said in a calm tone as Lyn let out her tears to this strange young man she'd barely known for more than a day.

After explaining her backstory, the two began preparing for the long journey ahead. Lyn decided to give Lucas her other horse. With the gold she already had and a few valuables she planned to sell of they began on their way.

"Thank you again Lucas for letting me come with you… I don't know how I could feel is you had said 'No'." Lyn said with a smile.

Lucas chuckled, "You couldn've asked a million times and I still would say 'Yes'. Lucas' face then slightly reddened as he saw her beaming at him.

"Right then, you can be my master strategist!" Lyn cheered as they shared a handshake.

Lucas could only admired the softness of her hands, but still kept himself together as he smiled and replied, "Only if you're my peerless warrior!"

A feeling of worry and excitement flooded through Lucas as he then thought to himself, "I'll protect you all… with everything I've got. This isn't just some game anymore, this is real life for me now."

"And I'll do anything for them, no matter what" With that burst of resolve both Lyn and Lucas galloped forth as their first footsteps together into their journey began.
