Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade
Journey Among The Plains
Chapter 1 - Footsteps of Fate
And so the journey began for the strange pair of the young mysterious tactician Lucas and the young swordswoman Lyndis. Now on a journey, they head for the city of Bulgar to gain supplies. But little did they know this would be the start of a strange journey…
During their trip to Bulgar, they had packed lightly only with the most basic essentials with a few loaves of bread, some dried fruit and a few waterskins.
Now only a day away from the commercial hub of Sacae, as both now traveled down the main road Lucas could only look out as he stretched atop his horse.
The peaceful serenity of nature around them, Lucas lost in his thoughts began to hum a familiar tune to himself…
(Think of Lost in Thoughts All Alone – Fire Emblem Fates…)
Lyn then caught on to her companion's melody and smiled hearing at how serene the sound seemed to flow smoothly.
"I never took you for a music lover Lucas." Lyn pointed out.
"Oh um… Yes actually, I love music. I've always loved how calming it can be; it was my grandmother that first taught me music." Lucas explained, but a forlorn look had made it's way to his face that Lyn caught onto.
"I see… so what've your parents Lucas? Tell me about your family." Lyn inquired of her new companion.
"…" Lucas' thoughts on his past still fresh in his mind. He still hadn't made peace with his mother nor his step-family and now that he had time to think; if he was indeed stuck here in this time… he may never get a chance to see them again.
"Lucas… are you okay? You look pale now…" Lyn said worriedly. Lucas caught himself as he reacted to Lyn's words.
"No, no… it's fine. My grandmother… passed away a few months ago. My own father…" Lucas struggled to find his composure.
"No, Lucas I can tell it's hard… there's no need. Tell me about them… when you're ready. But I still would like to hear more of that song." Lyn tried to change the topic of the conversation.
Lucas appreciating the change of pace did so and continued to hum the tune as they made their final stretch to Bulgar…
(Bulgar – Hub of Sacae)
"I guess it was a boon for us to pawn off those axes. Gold is a luxury we'll have to use frugally." Lucas said as Lyn nodded.
"I know it's wrong to desecrate the dead like that, but as you said before gold is a necessity we'll need on such a long journey. Is this your first time in Bulgar by chance?" Lyn asked trying to forget about the bandit attack.
"I had heard of the city, but I never came here in person. It's just as bustling as other cities you'd see across the continent. And in just a few seconds…" Lucas thought to himself as he counted to himself.
"O beauteous one, wait!", a loud voice called out.
"Aaah, and here comes my favorite social knight." Lucas thought as he chuckled to himself hearing the over-the-top voice of his favorite knight.
"Hmm?" Lyn turned as she was meet by a green-armored cavalier whose hair was a mix of wheat and a darkish blonde. "Were you addressing me?"
"But of course!" The knight replied. "Would you not favor me with your name? Or better yet, your company?" Lucas couldn't help himself as he turned and laughed covering his mouth with his hand.
In that moment, Lyn's attitude became slightly cooler as she replied, "Where are you from, sir knight, to speak so freely to a stranger?"
"Ah I thought you'd never ask! I hail from the Caelin canton of Lycia! Home of men of passion and fire!" The flirtatious knight answered as he finally took notice of Lucas barely trying to keep himself together.
"Shouldn't that be callous oafs with loose tongues?" Lyn replied coldly.
He winced but kept his cool, "You're lovely even when cruel…"
Lyn huffed as she turned toward Lucas, "Let's go Lucas, we're done with this man. We still have shopping to do."
"Here's some of personal advice friend. Just be honest and learn some self-restraint… it'll do you a world of good." Lucas left off with that as he followed Lyn.
The two then made their way to a general store where they browsed for several more items and basic supplies. One of those being a map of Elibe itself.
Turning then surprisingly they went to the local armory and bought both a new iron sword & spear. Lyn at first questioned Lucas' decision, but he instead on trusting him.
"Trust me Lyn, with out journey we'll only get more and more bigger. It's better to have something and then realize you need it too late." Lucas reasoned.
"I suppose that makes sense." Lyn agreed and with that both of them took their bags filled with supplies and attached them to Lucas' horse along with the spare weapons.
"Well then I think that'll… Ow!" Lucas found himself walking face first into a horse he didn't see.
"Are you alright Lucas?" Lyn looked up to see yet another knight this time in red armor with orange hair sitting atop it.
"Excuse me, your horse is blocking the way!" She called him out sounding slightly indignant.
"It's fine Lyn… I've had harder falls." Lucas tried to de-escalate the situation.
"Oh, my apologies." The knight then moved as he motioned for his green companion to do the same. "I should've been more observant."
"Well, at least you seem to have some honor." Lyn admitted.
The red knight now looking at Lyn intently spoke, "Excuse me, have we ever met before?" Saying this though he was immediately met with a look by his companion.
"I do not recall ever meeting a…" Lyn couldn't finish her reply as the green knight yelled and chided his friend.
"Kent, you have the stones to call me a flirt!? And yet here you are doing the same!"
Lyn's anger boiled over as she yelled, "It seems all Lycian knights are the same! Come Lucas! Let us be rid of this place!" Lyn trotted with her horse with Lucas right behind her.
"See you guys later!" Lucas said with a smirk as he chuckled once more.
Finally making it to the outskirts of the town, Lyn and Lucas finally made it to the forest but both of them could instantly tell something was wrong.
"Heheh… aren't you a pretty one?" The ragged voice of a bandit sounded as he and several others appeared from the shadows in the woods. "Your Lyndis, is it not?"
Lyn froze for a moment as her she went cold for a second, "How… how do you know that name?"
"I'd rather take you for some gold or make you mine… but what I'll do for gold." The bandit ignored Lyn. "Ah well, time to die!"
However instead of attacking he fled across the bridge as more of his companions appeared and seemingly surrounded Lyn and Lucas.
"Aah, there's to many to handle… but I won't give up!" Lyn proclaimed as she drew her iron sword.
However just as Lyn squared for battle a voice could be heard behind the traveling pair, "Hey, there she is!"
All parties turned to see two cavaliers rushing towards the scene atop their horses, "Whew… finally caught up… You fiends! Such numbers against two people? Cowards, the whole lot of you!"
"Wait you two are from - " Lyn tried to question them but the red armored knight, Kent stopped her.
"It appears these ruffians mean to do you and your companion harm. If it's a fight they want, then they shall receive it!" Kent declared.
"Let me at them as well! Stand back, I shall deal with them!" Sain said spurred on by his friend.
"No, this is…" Lyn spoke, but Lucas rode up and spoke for her.
"We'll happily take your assistance."
"But Lucas…" Lyn tried to retort.
"Lyn, it's like you said; these aren't odds we can handle alone. Besides if they meant us harm they would've already attacked." Lucas reasoned.
"I suppose so…" Lyn seemed to agree.
"Then allow me to introduce myself and my friend. I am Kent and this is my companion, Sain. If you do not trust on our own. Then we shall allow you to guide us." Kent said with a slight bow.
"Don't worry Lyn, just trust me alright?" Lucas said with a heartfelt smile to her, sighing in defeat she relented.
"Very well… we appreciate your assistance." Lyn finally admitted.
"Alright then, Kent deal with the bandit in the forest just before us. Seems he thinks he's the sneaky type." Lucas pointed out the bandit attempting to hide in the foliage.
Said bandit then ran out trying to retreat back but the branches and thorns slowed his march.
"But of course I will…" However before Kent could ride off Sain was already charging off and despite knowing his personality Lucas couldn't help but groan in annoyance.
"Please allow me, to deal with this ruffian myself. It shall be mere child's play!" Sain cried as he brought his lance to bear and charged the axe-wielding bandit.
"Wait, but is he only using a lance?!" Lyn said with worry.
Kent facepalmed, "His bravado will one day get him killed…" Kent's exasperation was shared by the remaining trio.
"Lyn, Kent both of you go and assist him just in case." Lucas ordered and both the cavalier and swordswoman both nodded as they raced to assist the green cavalier.
"Hehe, how can a knight be so dumb!?" The bandit laughed as confronted Sain who stuck in the bushes and foliage of the forest was unable to maintain form and get a good hit on the bandit.
"S-silence you fiend, this is just a handicap for poor souls such as you!" Sain attempted to deflect his mistake from the bandit charged in and tried to swing at Sain.
The knight was able to dodge most of the brigands' attack, but his leg was sliced slightly by the axe.
"Gah!" Sain flinched in pain as he felt the blade make contact.
"Sain!" Kent yelled out; sword drawn as he rode to his friends aid with Lyn behind him.
"Kent, to have need of your aid, I am unworthy of my title as a knight…"
"Then keep your head up or otherwise it'll cost you everything! Have at thee!" Kent said as she charged the bandit with his sword.
Using the foliage for cover, Kent drew out the bandit's attack as he saw an opening Kent came down on the brigand and felled him as a small pool of blood leaked from the fallen bandit.
"Why would you try and use a lance against a foe with an axe?!Be lucky he didn't cleave it in two! Where's your sword anyhow?" Kent inquired his companion.
"Oh um… I forgot to buy one." Sain said with little confidence.
"Or perhaps you forgot one, because of your dallying with the ladies." Kent said in an accusatory tone.
"But Kent, the lance is the weapon of the cavalier. It is heroic in it's very nature…" However realizing all the disapproving glares at him he shrinked and asked, "…May I have a spare sword please?"
"Be lucky I'm the type to be prepared Sain." Lucas said as he took the extra blade from his horse and threw the sword and sheath to the green knight.
"Aah, thank you friend! Now I'm fully prepared for combat!" Sain had regained his confidence as he attached the sword to his hip.
Lucas then brought to the group to his attention as he cleared his throat; all of them looked to him as he began to spell out his orders.
"Even those these are just common thieves that doesn't mean we can underestimate them. Stick to the terrain for an advantage and be wary if their in the trees themselves. They all appear to be using axes, so stick to your swords everyone. There's a bandit to the south and one of the bridge. Sain and Kent; deal with them respectively. Lyn another bandit is in the north, you deal with him. Oh and Sain…" Lucas was just about finished when he tossed a bottle to the social knight.
"Be careful next time, there might not be one." Lucas warned him as the knight used the vulnerary to heal his leg injury.
"Now then everyone, after them!" Lucas said with one last cheer as the three went off in their respective directions.
After feeling the remaining bandits easily as Lucas had said they were only a small band of common thieves with no real fighting experience. Each of them was able to slay their opponent.
After one perfect battle later…
"Gaaah… It was only supposed to be… one girl… never should've… Aaaah" Zugu, the thieves boss drew his last breath as Lyn delivered the final blow that killed him. Cleaning her blade in the grass, she sheathed her sword.
Now with some peace left the four came together to speak with Lyn giving her thanks, "Thank you two for your assistance."
"Where did your companion go by chance?" Kent inquired as to Lucas' absence.
"If I suspect as much as he's probably checking those bandits for anything important." Lyn explained.
"A looter? But why would he…?"
"For your information, considering the nature of this attack. It's quite possible that any of these bandits could have important information on them or could be couriers. As I always say it's better to be safe then sorry." Lucas explained his reasoning.
"And were you able to find anything?" Kent asked.
"Wait please, if you would please share your story with us. You seemed to be looking for us when you first arrived during the battle." Lyn inquired.
"Right, let's make camp in those ruins just back west of here. That should be enough." Lucas said pointing to said ruins.
And from there both Kent and Sain explained as knights from Lycia, Caelin in particular they had been sent by the Marquess of Caelin; an older man by the name of Hausen to find his daughter Madelyn who had eloped with a Sacaen nomad about 19 years ago.
When Lyn heard the name she froze and said it aloud, "Madelyn?"
"Our lord the marquess of Caelin's only daughter. He was heartbroken his own daughter would abandon him so. Eventually, the marquess simply declared that he had no daughter." Kent explained.
Sain continued, "And then this year, we received a letter from Lady Madelyn! It said that she, her husband, and their daughter were living happily on the Sacae plains. The marquess was ecstatic to learn he had a granddaughter. I remember the smile on his face when he announced that he'd suddenly become a grandfather. The granddaughter's name is Lyndis.
Kent explained further, "This was also the name of the marquess's wife, who passed away at an early age. When he heard that his granddaughter had been named as such he was overjoyed that his daughter had not forgotten where she came from."
Sain stepped back in, "Now, his only wish is to meet his daughter's family at least once. This is why we're here. We didn't know that Lady Madelyn died a few days after sending her letter... We only learned this shortly after we arrived here in Bulgar."
Kent then softened, "And then we learned her daughter yet lives… I knew immediately after I saw you the first time back in Bulgar that you were Lyndis, milady."
"The resemblance is quite striking." Sain said as he nodded in agreement.
"Did you… know my mother?" Lyn asks the knights who both nod side to side.
"No, but there are many portraits of her in Castle Caelin. She was known for her striking beauty." Kent said.
Lyn went quiet, the awkward silence hung in the air. Lucas put a comforting hand to her shoulder as he said, "Remember Lyn… no more tears right? You can tell them."
Lyn smiled and nodded to her friend, as the newfound heiress recounted, " To the rest of my tribe, I was always Lyn. But when I was with my parents... When it was just the three of us, I was Lyndis. It's all so strange. I was all alone in the world and now I have a grandfather, I have Lucas too…" The young man slightly flushed at that comment.
"Lyndis... I never thought I would hear that name again." Lyn seemed to reminisce by the softened look on her face.
Lucas however now remembered what he had found, "Lyn, that bandit Zugu… he called you by your name."
"Lundgren!" Sain said with anger and vitriol.
Kent's face hardened as well, "It seems your granduncle is aware of your survival." Bitterness could be heard in the knight's voice.
"My grandfather has a brother? But why would he…?" Lucas then explained before the knights could speak.
"By right of heritage, as the daughter of Marquess Hausen's daughter and as he is the elder sibling you take priority in inheritance. That means if Lundgren wants to take the Caelin throne, he needs you dead."
"But I have no interest in titles and such!" Lyn proclaimed.
"Unfortunately it seems Lundgren will not rest until he knows you've been dealt with." Sain spat out.
"So… these attempts on my life will continue? What should I do?" Lyn asked, turning to the other three.
"Well that's quite obvious" Lucas spoke up once more. "These gentlemen will take you to Castle Caelin and protect you along the way. When we arrive we can expose Lundgren for the traitor he is with the accounts on your life."
"Well said, Lucas." Kent said with a smile.
"I agree; here, here!" Sain cheered.
"Then we must make careful preparations for our trip to Caelin. It will be quite a journey back to the canton." Kent explained as the group began making said preparations for the trip.
Lucas was talking with the Caelin knights when he felt a tug on his cloak; it was Lyn who had a worried expression on her face, "Lucas, what're you doing?"
"Isn't it obvious? Getting ready for the journey ahead." Confusion evident in his tone.
"But the situation has changed! This will be more dangerous then - " Lucas put a hand up to stop Lyn from talking for a moment as he answered her concerns.
With a fake look of hurt he replied, "And forget the pact we made just days ago? Remember I'm your master strategist and you're the peerless warrior. You won't be getting rid of me that easily."
Despite his reaction; a look of guilt made it's way to the Sacaen swordswoman's expression; "Lyn… I'm here with you right until the very end." He finished with a smile.
Lyn, then unsure matched the boy's smile as she replied in kind, "Very well, thank you Lucas! Let me ask once again for your friendship and your aid."
Now with everyone amply supplied; the four mount their horses and begin their long journey towards Castle Caelin…
AN #1 – Welcome everyone to my first chapter Fire Emblem story, "Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade – Journey Among the Plains". Our protagonists, Lucas and Lyn meet the Caelin knights Kent and Sain. Now they learn of Lyn's inheritance and begin their journey.

All of those and more in the next chapter, "Sword of Spirits"
AN#2: As always it's you guys that keep me going and I hope you hear from you with any constructive criticism. So remember to favorite, follow and most importantly review so I can hear from you guys.
Author of Mystery, out!
AN#3: I want to make some other things clear here in his new AN, that while I will use SOME of the game's original dialogue script; I will do my best to come up with original dialogue of my own.
Also this journey isn't just about Lucas going on a big journey and getting the girl, but it will be a much deeper one for him. But that story will take time to show itself, and it's moments may only show occasionally but I'll do my best to show them off.
And to warn some who may be turned off by this I say this openly that Lucas will learn how to fight later on in the story, but he will not be a 'Stu' character, as this will also be part of his development.
Well enough said, I hope you still join me on this new story of mine and hope to see you again soon!
