Angels with Newfound Hope
Act 2 Chapter 13: Revelation
"Hey, I'm home." A large silver dragon greeted his empty living room. Sitting himself down in front of a side table, he addressed a single fixture: a cobalt blue urn. "It's been a while since we last talked, huh Miles...?"
"Hey. Could you point me to the Chief's office? I need to turn some evidence in to him." Alex addressed that uninterested looking secretary, who had been sitting with her eyes glazed over until his approach.
"Left hallway, third door on your left. But I'm afraid he's out at the moment. You'll just have to-" And she was left without even finishing her sentence. That must've been a new record...
"There you are, Alex. Come on. Bryce said he'd be a bit longer since he's still stuck out there." And there he was, Sebastian, right on cue. He gathered the human up and dragged him over to their meeting place.
"Well, I've got something interesting for you." The ambassador lay his items on the desk. They'd been neatly wrapped together, the bandage being hugged by Reza's little list.
"Great. Let's see what you've come up with." Sebastian carefully unwrapped the bundle for a closer look. "This bandage could definitely be something. Where was it found at?" He queried at the mildly bloody sight.
"That's the curious part. It was in a maintenance tunnel under Tatsu Park. And there's more. You know that person who attacked us earlier today?" The stormy-eyed man awaited an expected nod from his partner before continuing. "Well, they were guarding it. I managed to shoot their mask off. Not like it mattered much. It was too dark down there to see much of anything. By the time I put on my night vision, they were gone." That story was certainly interesting to the runner. Enough so that he actually pulled a notebook from Bryce's desk.
"Damn. You still have that thing? I bet the Chief will be itching to see something like it." The runner asked with much excitement. His companion pulled what looked to be a piece of wood with two holes carved into it off his thigh.
"There it is. I can already tell what you're thinking, and no, I'm not screwing with you. Swab the strap here for DNA. I'm pretty sure my last round grazed the perp's ear." Alex pointed out the slight wetness on said strap. It was cordage crafted from some fabric torn off a suit liner. Looks like the Administrator liked to live in comfort at least.
"Hope you're not lying or anything. This and the bandage could be something big. Now what about that paper?" The smaller male unraveled it for closer inspection.
"Everything Reza bought during his stay in civilization. I'd make a note of the lemons, as they can be used to write hidden messages. One would just need a clothes iron for it to show up." Alex pointed out, allowing his companion time to mull over everything once more.
"Heh, never thought I'd see that be put to use in modern day. But this doesn't mean much if we don't have the letters he wrote." Sebastian shot him down. How could the ambassador have forgotten that in just two weeks? Come to think of it, what else had he forgotten in this time...?
"At least there's still the bandage and mask. So there's a couple points to continue from." The brunette reasoned, with him being awarded a firm nod.
"Right. We'll get on this as soon as possible. And thanks for the help, by the way." Sebastian got up to leave, until someone entered with a very familiar weapon...
"Hey Sebastian? Here's that thing you requested back." She lay it down grip-first and took a step back.
"Thanks. Alex, have you met Naomi yet?" The runner introduced his coworker with a regarding wave. Alex got up and took her hand for a shake.
"I'm... afraid I haven't had the pleasure. Alex Thompson: current Assistant Investigator and Ambassador to humanity." She returned the gesture in full, closing the gap between them. Her skin felt like silk, it was so soft.
"Naomi: Police Officer. Do I dare ask about your clothes? Or your demeanor, for that matter?" The female joked, humming a chuckle which wasn't returned.
"Let's just say I got on someone's bad side with the former. As for my attitude... I'd rather not talk about it." Alex trailed off, staring towards Bryce's chair. His depression darkened the entire room with its unwanted onset.
"Oh! I'm so sorry. Were they one of us?" Naomi just asked without hesitation. The brunette adopted a sullen smile as he glanced back.
"Yeah. He was a great person, despite his vices. I'd have married him in a heartbeat if I'm being honest. I only wish he'd asked." He reminisced back to their first kiss. If only he'd have done something differently.
"Sounds like you two really loved each other. I'd like to stay and chat some more, but duty calls." The anthro's attempt to leave was interrupted by her new acquaintance piping up for one last joke.
"Pretty rude of duty to do that. Doesn't she have any manners?" Those comments got Naomi holding herself back from tittering like a schoolgirl.
"No, and she's also very boring. You'd hate duty if you met her." With that quip from her, the two dragons saw themselves out. Alex slid his old pistol off the desk and stared into the metal for a solid minute.
"Looks like it's just you and me again. Better get back to the apartment. I have a feeling tonight's date night..."
