"Surprising enough his favorite episode seems to be 'Save the Cat'." Alex gushes after the teasing call out of her singing the She Ra theme much to Maggie's joy and Kate's annoyance as they decide on a shady outdoor table whilst Lucy waits inside for their orders and to offer a little more privacy for the phone call she'd gotten after everyone had decided what they'd wanted.
Brooks gives a soft whimper of recognition at the tile as he licks the last of the dog-friendly ice cream the shop owner had let him sample from his lips even looking over hopefully towards one of the tv screens mounted to the wall past the outer door opposite them but giving a saddened huff when he saw the episode in question wasn't playing.
"Brian caught that too." Maggie acknowledges now toying nervously with the wrapping of her drinking straw "he's a good friend of mine that helps out sometimes when I can't get away from work." She goes on seeing the growing upset the name seemed to cause the stunning woman now sitting across from her "I let him use my Netflix account sometimes to keep the gang entertained."
"Hey, Kate, I could use some help in here." Lucy called regardless of the fact the pager they'd been given hadn't gone off yet signaling their order was ready for pick up. "Lets go Kane." Lucy huffed when Kate didn't move from her glaring spot at Maggie's shoulder at the four-person accommodating table.
Then in the same second Kate gives a huff in defeat at the glaring eyes of the Lane sister waiting for her Brooks suddenly lurches forwards pulling against the wrapped leash clipped to his collar and snaking around the arm of Alex's chair.
The dog all but ignored Maggie and Alex's echoed calls of his name as he makes the small jump over the low wall of the café's patio seating as he continued his seemingly single-minded sprint towards something just tossed along the roadside farther down the street. The car that had discarded it sped off as Brooks darted closer with Alex and Maggie hot on the hurrying dog's heels.
"Talk about saving the cat, dang Brooksie you really scared us there buddy." Maggie sighed running a hand through her hair as once his task seemed to be complete the former street dog trotted back to them whimpering with every step as he gingerly passed whatever he'd taken from the side of the road in front of Alex's kneeling form.
"Buddy, I don't think…" Alex sighs her voice creaking in sympathy as Brooks continues pacing nervously in front of where she was kneeling along the sidewalk.
"Easy Danvers." Maggie calmed with a warmed hand against Alex's shoulder as she also kneeled beside the now worried Brooke still nosing sadly at the thing cradled in Alex's hands. "It's not what you think." Maggie clarifies holding out her hand for the unmoving fur lump in Alex's. "See?"
Alex feels a much more relaxed breath leave her despite the fresh tears sliding down her cheeks when Maggie points towards the ripped side Alex had mistaken for a fatal injury only to see dirty white fluff rather than blood leaking from the 'wound' in the tabby's side.
"Its one of those Lil Bub plushies a lot of kids around here get instead of real cats. This one just seemed to be in a worsened shape than most." Maggie sighed earning an agreeing whimper from Brooks at the diagnosis. "But it does seem like Brooksie just got a new friend." She adds now cradling the plushy toy against the curve of her arm as she scratched Brooks behind his ear. "Just next time no zoomies alright buddy?" she pleads earning a guilty whimper from the dog nuzzling against her hand.
"Everything alright here?" Lucy asks jogging along the sidewalk towards them.
"Seems Brooksie had a case of the hero zoomies." Alex explained nodding to the toy in Maggie's arms.
"Good thing he's almost an official Danvers then huh?" Lucy joked offering her hand to a chuckling Alex who then held out a hand to a puzzled but blushing Maggie as she lets Alex pull her to her feet.
"Come on I think we should give Brooksie a well-deserved drink, don't you?" Alex suggests rubbing her hand in Brook's scruff as they make their way back down the sidewalk toward an apprehensive Kate Kane.
"And you have several pages of paperwork to sign." Maggie agrees her hand still held in Alex's as they wander back along the sidewalk.
