Sawyer Can Sing?
Kate sat in the dark room watching the outdated black computer screen and listening to the monotonous click of the numbers turning over. It was her shift to press the button and she could already feel her brain going numb with boredom. Jack had been here before, chatting with her, but had gone down to the beach to check on Aaron and Claire. She was alone in the hatch…or so she thought. Kate frowned a little as she heard the record player scratch to a start and leaned over to see if anyone was there. Suddenly an up beat jazz tune leapt into the air filling the computer room and making her jump in surprise. Kate glanced up at the numbers as she stood and saw she had plenty of time to investigate. A trumpet cheerfully blasted out a few notes as she slowly looked around the corner. Her eyes widened to see Sawyer holding a long broom like a microphone and tapping one foot on the ground. His eyes were closed but he smiled as she moved to lean on the doorway.
"Heaven, I'm in heaven!" he sung, quite well despite his southern accent, along with the swave voice of Frank Sinatra "And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak" he opened his eyes and they flicked up to meet hers then winked "And I seem to find the happiness I seek when we're out together dancing cheek to cheek" Kate grinned raising an eyebrow.
"Heaven, I'm in heaven" he began to sway back and forth clicking his fingers like Kate had seen done in a old black and white movie "And the cares that hung around me through the week" he spun around stopping to face her "Seem to vanish like a gamblers lucky streak, when we're out together dancing cheek to cheek" he began to dance over to her, leaning forward a little now as he sung "Oh I'd love to climb a mountain and reach the highest peak but it doesn't boot me half as much as dancing cheek to cheek. Oh I'd love to go out fishing in a river or a creek" Sawyer threw the broom aside "but I don't enjoy it half as much as dancing cheek to cheek" he slid over to her taking one of her hands and leading her into the light room. Kate let out a giggle she'd been holding in but could not longer. The mixture of charm, sweetness and utter hilarity of what he was doing was too much. She began to move a little to the beat.
"Dance with me, I want my arm about you" he pulled her to him playfully the turned her around, his hands returning to her waist and hand "That charm about you, will carry me through" They began a sort of fast waltz swaying to each beat of the drums "Right up to heaven" the chorus began again and Sawyer let go of her waist spinning, dipping her, then pulling her back to her feet "when we're out together swinging cheek to cheek" Kate and Sawyer laughed as they twirled around the room, kicked the air and tapped their feet in unison. They broke apart and came together.
"Come on and dance with me, I want my arm about you that charm about you" Sawyer pulled Kate closer rubbing his slightly bristly cheek to her soft cheek.
"Stop!" She laughed delightfully as it tickled.
"It will carry me through right up to heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak and I seem to find the happiness I seek" suddenly he lifted her of the ground supporting her and spinning them, Kate putting an arm around his head and squealing in surprise.
"When were out together dancing, out together dancing" he slowed his spinning and let her slowly slip to the floor "Out together dancing cheek to cheek" Sawyer sung the last note while Kate rested her arms on his shoulders.
"What was that about?" she laughed with a bright smile.
"Well, I got to see you dance didn't I. I wanted us to be square, now you've seen me sing" he said with a cheeky grin.
"Sure Sawyer" she said rolling her eyes, her cheerful smile lingering.
