As I rode my bike to a close enough range to where I felt the bond leading me, I saw three people conversating in the preserve. I felt my heart skip a beat when I saw a familiar scruffy face man. I parked my bike and felt myself stagger.
" Derek?" I called out. He turned to me and I ran at him. I embraced him with some deep breaths as he held me tight, calming my worries down. He put me down as I still held on with my arms.
" What happen?" I asked as he looked into my eyes.
" My little sister, Cora, is alive. Boyd is alive. But Erica." He said in a saddened tone. I pulled him in and he took a deep breath as if to assure I was still alive. We pulled apart and I saw Scott on the phone.
" Cora and Boyd killed a person at the pool." Scott said as I felt my heart drop.
" This doesn't make any sense. The public pool is all the way on the other side of the woods. We haven't tracked them anywhere near there." Derek said as he paced the forest floor.
" Derek, they kill someone." Scott told us as I huffed.
" How are they moving so fast?" Derek asked as I saw him pace. I saw Scott stare hard.
" But they can't be that fast on foot." Derek told him, I got in front of my mate.
" They kill someone. Some totally innocent kid is dead... And it's our fault." My cousin said with a harsh tone.
" It's my fault." Derek said as I had my eyes glow.
" We need help." Scott said as I see Isaac smirking.
" We have Isaac now." My man replied as Scott sighed.
" I mean real help. They're too fast for us, for all of us. They're too strong, too rabid." Scott reminded him. I looked up at the moon and slightly drowned out.
"Find someone who knows what they're doing." I said as I smiled.
" Who?" Derek asked me as I smiled and pressed my trident.
" Someone who knows how to hunt werewolves without killing them." I said as I pointed my weapon at Scott.
" Argent." He concluded. We all decided to find Argent. I let my trident go to necklace mode and got to my bike.
" Are you sure you are focused enough?" Derek asked as I saw him look into my eyes.
As much as you are. I said with an echo in my voice. I calmed myself so my eyes could fade to their normal dusk blue. I followed Derek's jeep to where Scott was talking to Chris. This isn't what I wanted, but oh well. I let my thoughts run but was pulled out by Scott getting into Argent's car. I followed them and waited. I smelt the blood and quivered. The horror of bloodshed once again has fell Beacon Hills. I watched the car go, Derek followed and I followed him. It wasn't long before we were all at the Preserve once again.
" You're tracking them by print?" Chris asked as I smirked. This was too good.
" Trying to." Scott said as I huffed.
" Well, then, you've been wasting your time. There's only one creature on earth that can visually track footprints, and that's man. And if you're not trained like me, you have no idea that this print is Boyd's and these..." Chris said as he pointed at the prints but the curly-haired beta spoke up.
" are Cora's." Isaac called out as I chuckled.
" Nope. They're yours. You trampled Cora's as soon as you walked over here ya smart ass." I said as Chris nodded at me.
" Listen, I know the three of you are focusing half your energy on resisting your own urges under the full moon, but that puts you at a severe disadvantage to Boyd and Cora, who have fully given in. They put the pedal to the floor where you three are barely hitting the speed limit." Argent said as I felt indifferent, the moon gives me power as it affects the tide, but I had no influence under the moon.
" So what do we do?" Derek asked the elder Argent.
" Focus on your sense of smell. Actual wolves are known to track their prey by up to a hundred miles a day by scent. A trained hunter can use scent to track them. If the wind is with them, wolves can track a scent by a distance of two Miles, which means we can draw them to us... Or into a trap. The full moon does give us one advantage." Chris said as I looked about.
" They'll have a higher heat signature, which makes them easier to spot with infrared." He kept going as he tossed Derek a pair of goggles. I smirked at this.
" Thanks, but I've got my own." Derek says as his eyes glowed briefly.
" Just remember, we're not hunting wild animals. Underneath those impulses are two intelligent human beings. Don't think they can't rely on that human side. It's suppressed, but it's there, reminding them how to mask their scent, how to cover their tracks, how to survive." Argent said in a low tone that meant more work for us. Great!
"When was the last time you saw your sister?" Argent asked as I saw Derek's face with a blank expression, but through the bond was sadness.
" Nine years. I thought she died in the fire." Derek told him flatly.
" Do you feel like you have a lock on her scent? Scott, how confident are you in your skills?" Chris asked Scott, my cousin looking kind of scrambled.
" Honestly, most of the time, I'm trying not to think about all the things I can smell." Scott told him as I brought out my focus. Letting my mind think. What can we do? We can't kill them, it's wrong. What if we hold them in one place till the full moon descends and the sun rises?
" What if we can contain them? Throw them somewhere that has no windows or way out? At least till the sun comes up." I asked as the four looked at me.
" You want to trap them inside?" Derek asked as I nodded. Chris' expression changed.
" If there's somewhere with a strong enough door." He said as I saw Isaac step forward.
" What about the boiler room? It's just one big steel door." The curly-haired beta said as I nodded.
" You're sure the school's empty?" The elder Argent asked.
" It has to be. There can't be anyone there this late, right?" Scott asked us, I shook my head. I took my phone out, it read 5 AM.
" The sun rises in an hour. No ones at the school." I said as Chris got us to his car and unhooked the trunk. I saw a silver-looking stake with a light-like object on the top.
" These are ultrasonic emitters. It's one of the tools we use to corral werewolves, pushing them into a direction we want them to run." Chris said before pressing the top. I heard an annoying sound but it wasn't too loud.
" Gives off a high-pitched frequency that only they can hear." Argent said with a grin, I looked to see the three werewolves covering their ears.
" God, no kidding!" Isaac screamed, I pressed the top to turn it off.
" Guessing Mermaids don't have good hearing?" Argent asked as I smirked.
" We can tone down sounds that the supernatural deem as an exposer." I said with a grin. Chris handed me six of the emitters. I got to my bike. I felt a familiar presence.
" You have to promise to stay safe." Derek said as I nodded. I felt him quickly take me into his arms and pull me close. This was sudden.
" Please just. Just promise me, my princess mermaid." Derek said in a worried yet shaken tone. I felt all his love for me heat the bond to an almost suffocating level. I wrapped my arms around him, my long hair moving through the wind. It settles on the middle of my back.
" I promise." I said as I pulled away. I saw him watch as I put my helmet on and I rode off. As I rode through the road I threw the emitters where they needed to go. I soon found myself at the school. I parked my bike and turned it off. I ran inside as I heard growling. I got to where Derek's scent was. I followed it to the boiler room door. Scott and Derek were safe.
" It worked. What are you hearing?" Derek asked as I came down the stairs. Thank god he is ok.
" Heartbeats." Scott replied as he had his head close to the giant door.
" Both of 'em?" I said as I felt my heart sink with the next sentence.
" Actually... Three of them." My cousin spoke low and afraid. I saw Derek go to the door, what was he doing?
" What are you doing?" I asked him.
" Close the door behind me and keep it shut." My mate said as my heart began to race.
" You go in there alone, and you're either gonna kill them, or they kill you." Scott said as I tried calming down. This was a death sentence!
" That's why I'm going in alone." Derek said as he had his hand on the door. Hell No!
" I don't think so." I said as I pressed my trident. Derek looked to want to object, but I made my eyes glow. We both went inside. I let my senses grow. I looked around, but I was thrown to the ground by a transformed Boyd.
" Sorry bud." I said as I zapped him with the trident. He was thrown back, but I was scratched hard by Cora. My trident slipped from my hands as I let my claws grow. No water round here! I slashed at Cora as I felt claws swiping my back. Boyd! I felt him throw me to the side as I hit a grated fence door. I got up and saw it was Miss Blake. Oh no! I snarled before I held Cora as I saw Derek holding Boyd. Come on! I felt Cora slashing my stomach and bits of my ribs. I felt the heat of the sun coming as Cora fell to the floor. I felt my wounds slowly healing. She passed out, I smiled.
" Fuck." I said breathlessly. I heard another thud. I turned to see Boyd fall unconscious. Derek came over to me and held my arm, I think he was inspecting my wounds.
" I'm ok." I said as my wounds were taking a bit to heal.
" You look like you are torn apart." Derek said as I saw Scott walking towards me with my trident. I grabbed it and the moonstone glowed. I felt my wounds and scratches heal shut, no scars. I still had blood all over me. I let my trident go to pendent mode.
" I'm alive as promised." I said as Derek nodded.
" There's a teacher. I'll take care of her. Get them out of here." I said as Derek looked concerned.
" Meet me at my bike." I told him. He nodded and I went to face Miss Blake. I opened the grated door. I found her cowering, I gave out my hand and she shakingly took it.
" It's gonna be ok." I told her. I lead her out of the boiler room.
" What was all that?" She asked as she held my hand tight.
" No worries, I promise. You won't get hurt." I told her before she nodded. I walked out of the building and saw Derek had his hummer parked by my bike.
" You good to ride?" He asked as he checked me over again.
" I will be. Where are they?" I asked as he pointed to his Hummer. I nodded and got on my bike. I rode it back to the loft. I parked it next to my car and my project.
" Guess I have to throw my shirt away." I said as he looked me over.
" Did your trident heal you?" He asked as I felt my pendant.
" It's never done that before." I said as he nodded. I opened the back of the hummer and picked up Cora. Derek picked up Boyd. We took them up to the loft and placed them both on the couch.
" How long are they gonna be out?" I asked as I looked at them.
" Couple of hours." Derek said as I looked calm but felt tired.
" Come with me." I said as I felt Derek's hand intertwine with mine. I lead him to the bathroom. I removed my clothes as I let the bath filled with water. I saw Derek remove his clothes and we got into the water, my body changed as my tail popped out the edge. I laid back on Derek's body. I felt my skin healing any leftover marks.
" It'll be ok." Derek said as he moved my hair from my neck and placed a kiss on my scar. I closed my eyes and enjoyed the moments between us.
