A not so beautiful beginning
A/N: A short chapter to start I didn't want to reveal too much...but not too little.
The smoke twisted and turned up along the corridors, inviting itself into the rooms and wound up the stairs.
Upstairs a pretty girl with long dark brown hair, wearing a pink flowery night dress tossed and turned in her bed. Her nose twitched a little in her sleep, and picked up the smell of the smoke that was now steadily flowing into the room.
"Onigiri? Thank you so, so, so very much!" she muttered, rolled over and woke up. She opened her eyes and closed them again, then suddenly she opened her eyes and sat up, alarmed.
"Ahhhhh! Fire!" she shouted. Suddenly a boy with ginger hair was outside her wide open window, wearing a mischievous grin.
"I'll save you Tohru", he said, climbing in through the window.
"Uhm..thanks…Kyo.." she said coughing. He turned his back to her, telling her to hold on tight. She obeyed him, and there was a poof of PINK smoke.
"Oh, crud!" said the small orange cat on he floor, "I /always/ forget about that! Stupid curse!"
Tohru noticed the smoke getting thicker, grabbed the cat, climbed out of the window and slid cautiously down the drainpipe with it clinging onto her shoulders.
"Rip my dress and you're dead meat, Kyo!" she told him, glancing over her shoulder.
Everyone gathered in the black kitchen to eat take away noodles.
"I've already told you that I didn't /mean/ to set the kitchen on fire! I was trying to give Tohru a break!" Kyo pleaded with the family.
"A five year old could have done a better job of cooking onigiri", said Yuki, "it might not taste good, but at least they wouldn't nearly burn the house down!" Kyo glared at him, and looked like he was about to fight Yuki, but a warning glance from Tohru prevented this.
"It /was/ a lovely idea, Kyo", Tohru said, sticking up for him, "but you really should have consulted the book more carefully!"
"You could have cost us our secret!" Yuki cried, "if you had of changed back a moment before, the firemen would have seen you!"
"Well…I must say that nearly being seen naked by members of the public isn't exactly my favourite thing in the world", Kyo retorted, glaring. Tohru and Shigure laughed, but Yuki just looked at Kyo with a glare that reflected exactly what he was thinking…'stupid cat'.
"Anyway, why didn't the smoke detector go off?" Tohru asked, trying to change the subject a little.
"Well, I must have forgotten to replace the batteries because of this new novel I'm wrting", Shigure explained, rubbing the back of his neck. "Well, I'd better go! Busy, busy, busy!" Tohru watched him leave the room, then looked back at Kyo and Yuki.
"What are you glaring at me for, Prince Yuki?" asked Kyo, standing up, leaning half way over the table.
"For being so pathetic", said Yuki, rolling his eyes and continuing to eat his noodles.
"Do you want to take this outside?" Kyo shouted. Yuki looked up at Kyo and said "Congratulations, this time we aren't outside already! Stupid cat…", remembering the time Kyo had asked that question when they had in fact been outside.
"I am /not/ a stupid cat!" Kyo screamed. Tohru watched the conversation go back and forth, covering her ears each time they shouted.
"It doesn't look like that where I'm standing…" Yuki said standing up as well.
Tohru tugged at the back of Kyo's shirt to try and make him sit down. But it was too late, Kyo was off like a rocket.
