Chapter 16
All bits and pieces of the watery clouds had gone, the sun returned back to the place it deserved on the endless skyline. After persistent raining, the forest was filled with sudden coming dew, the atmosphere became quite heavy.
Fukashi Murata (boys #7) was hiding in such an area, in the shadows of a wide boulder. He sat very closely to the boulder, his back almost touched its cold surface. This place was mainly an open glade with trees grown infrequently - so fearing from an unexpected attack was unnecessary. When someone kept the eyes open, of course.
Because of the low visibilities taking breath proved to be hard, the boy had to be careful. This average boy - no, even more average - waited at the very edge of the game field, on the northern section. The dew caused his uniform to became wet, so Fukashi felt cold but remained in one place. He thought, this place could be as safe as not many other. The classmates surely going to aim him after eliminating the most hated ones, for example Chisato Ozawa: who also has been cast by the computer as his partner.
'It's a good thing, I kept the katana myself and gave the military binoculars for Chisato...'
By the way, that was the reason they had a quarrel about at the warehouse - they was not able to decide which of them should own the katana and who the binoculars. The result was a little tug of war in which end Chisato let the binoculars fall down.
So the object was broken... the solo-message arrived... the girl walked out on him. Without a single word.
'Stupid bitch! I wouldn't show myself on her side anyway...'
Well, Murata needed to think deeply on this statement. Is there even a girl, who would hang around with him? Nobody wanted to be his friend, why would they? People reckoned him as an ugly, pimpled little goblin, who was always rude and went to they nerves with stupid jokes. Boys or girls, did not matter: every student made a game of that poor fellow. Okay, okay no need to wonder... Fukashi was down at the heel.
Fashion? Naah... Parties? Chicks? Extra naaah!
'Playing football match until sunset, chess with Dad or sitting at the computer all day long. Way better than counting, how many girls had I sex with so far... oh and fantasy books...'
Yes, Murata's best way of killing time: reading fantasy novels. If he would have listened to himself just once and did not think, that he would weasel in on the class by coming out to England - or where the hell were they at the moment? Now he had to sit around somewhere in the wild and speculate: who will be his head-hunter.
'Do I seriously thought, the guys would have called me out to those famous English pubs to have a drink together?'
English beer is well known around the world. But no, thank you, this was not his lifestyle.
'I totally feel like a demon from that fantasy novel called Mirror Trans. His soul was sealed into another world - a far-away dimension - and he can't find his place until finding it.'
The novel got the title from mirrors, people could travel through dimensions with the help of such glasses.
'It doesn't matter now... Why am I wondering about such things, I won't have the chance to read books again...'
Fukashi almost died of a broken heart, at least he felt like that. He might hid emotions in the presence of others, but he was a man of a feeling after all. Why did he have to die that young, when so many adventures were waiting for him in the fantasy world? He did not really have a single reason to smile. But Fukashi laughed.
'It's like... like...'
It was more like in favorite stories. There is a main character, who lives his average life - usually the most average life - but one day the story begins, when everything started like a normal day. Then the main character gets involved in many unbelievable adventures, same as the class into this killing-game.
Not a coincidence! It is a sign! Fukashi was certain, that something was going to happen. Not for long and a dim light glinted in the far, out of the dew without cease. Fukashi forced his confused mind back to present, hesitated a bit but got up to his feet. He grabbed the katana and got going toward the strange signal, with the eyes focusing on the light during the way, not to lose out of sight.
After a few steps, somewhere in the near the bushes rustled.
An ambush! They are here, the moment he showed his back unguarded!
Locating the exact place where the noises were coming from, the boy bore down with the katana. Only the leaves were cut into pieces and a scared bird escaped up to the sky. Murata stared the remains for minutes long until he realized: that was not a common raven...
'It's a three eyed blood-raven!
Like in... in.. in a novel among many. Fukashi became more intent, that was obvious: he got a signal from above. Monsters in this boring world... the gate is open.
'There is it! The gate!'
Nearing to the so called 'gate', the small clouds of dew kept out of his way, so the target showed itself - light was also coming from there - a huge mirror. It was as high as a house. Fukashi's eyes lightened up. A special mirror from Mirror Trans! Just like he suspected. No, not a suspicion, he KNEW it! The student also knew, if he goes through the gate, this world full of injustice will gone once and for all. Good bye sadness, hello adventures!
Fukashi had doubts no more. He started to run into the direction of the shiny glass glanced in every color of the rainbow. A few meters away, before he could reach the waterfall, like the soil would have disappeared under his feet. Fukashi lost balance and felt like falling into water, the air almost boiled around him. Although he saw nothing else, just the huge mirror, walking seemed a bit more difficult. But it did not stop Fukashi.
Was that water? Why was it hidden away from the eyes then? Who cares, the boy reached his goal. He passed through the mirror-gate like fantasy heroes do in case of portals. No tight face he could run at. Maybe just kind of a feeling, when we go under a shower-bath. Fukashi went trough it then came back. Reaching the original side of the mirror, he was not the same. He felt supernatural power in his veins as the katana was possessed by immortal energy.
No mortal creature, nothing at all could stop Fukashi, the despair of living! Wait a minute...
His name was not Fukashi anymore, such an average name! Every second baby boy got that name - including the form teacher Fukashi Genda and their deceased classmate Fukashi Tenzai. From now on he called... a unique name was needed, every hero had something what no other has... Growok!
'Yes, it is perfect for a fantasy name.'
So Growok (alias Fukashi gotten into craziness) left the small waterfall and set out to find new adventures with the katana on his left (on the right side came the woman). A brave new world had been coming for him, but everything else remained the same in deed: the captivity, the 'let's kill each other'-game, zones and rules. Only Fukashi Murata's mind was clouded.
