This took longer than anticipated, and that is due to being occupied by family matters and because my Editor/friend was on holiday and wasn't able to access the chapter. So yeah hope you enjoy this Chapter.
Without further ado, let us begin!
Reviews:
Fmaximus19: While the minions themselves won't receive an upgrade, however, Nero will command a force that'll be the killing machine that you speak off.
human dragon: Yep and sorry it took long. xD
Super Comrade: Thank you, comrade, I appreciate it. *Thumbs up*
Potat0s0Verlord: :)
Yeah, I don't pity the Black Dogs. They're gonna get the worst deaths possible for their sins.
Chronos0305: Took the inspiration from Goblin Slayer. Based the Gobbos off of them a bit. And thank you, my Beta-reader helped me out a lot with the Minion's humour.
Spartan-626: Yeah, I took inspiration from Goblin Slayer. But yeah, Nero's got a long way in being the Overlord.
Quathis: True: Nero will be restrained at times with his old life…
But in his new life as the Seventh Overlord, they're only obstacles to him, and I can't wait to write about each of them.
Guest: Yes Volt already won. Disappointing I know but its a perfectly refreshing. Since every other Kuroinu fanfic, I've read starts during the War. By starting here, this will give Nero fresh start and time for him to amass his power, whilst Volt sits idling with his….business.
Oh, and he won't be getting all the girls. Nero has a limited Harem of 5 people. Olga is one, and the other four are for you to figure out.
MOR the Divine Being: You sound unimpressed… xD
OmniPowerofKrieg: Yeah sorry but we're gonna be sticking to the Minions, however, he's not just gonna be having the Minions as his main army. He's gonna be commanding a vast Horde and it's gonna be an epic one.
Thanos69: You are welcome, good sir!
Great-Celestial-Dragon: I'm continuing the Warhammer one as well, just occupied with certain things, thus taking some extra time from me.
Chapter 6 - Exterminatus I - Goblins
Shit!
This is not good! Not good at all!
I didn't expect her to find out about my relationship with the head maid!
Oh shit! Shit! I'm in deep shit-!
By the Gods! She's knocking at my door!
How the hell am I supposed to get out!?
"What are you reading there sire?"
Nero looked up from the journal in his hands.
"What does it look like?" Nero replied.
"I know you are reading knowledge sire, but what kind of knowledge? Spells? Fighting techniques? Kama Sutra?"
"Hahaha, really funny Gnarl" Nero rolled his eyes. "But no, This is a journal that I found while looking around the place."
"Ah good to know. But personally, I wouldn't read them, as most of the time its some idiot gloating about their wealth or talking about sexual fantasies. I swear the number of scumbags who wish to be eaten is astounding."
Nero couldn't help but raise an eyebrow. "What have you been reading over the years?"
"You don't want to know."
"Well ok then, Gnarl, but this Journal does contain information about this place."
"Oh? Then what does it say then, master?"
Nero shrugged "Not much. The only thing that I can get out of this is the place's name, and the words of a very, very dead man."
"So what is its name?"
"Ithrendal"
"Humph sounds Elvish"
"It's not Elvish"
"Are you sure about that?"
"It's actually ancient Alsharian. It's the tongue of the Alshari and is a mix of Elvish and Nomadic. That's due to the Elves of their home of origin influencing them. Ithrendal means Wicked Bastion."
"Hmmm. Truly my sire is highly knowledgeable."
"Yeah, yeah, have the minions below finished clearing out the Dungeons?"
"Not yet, sire, it would take some time for them to exterminate all the Goblin things that are still hiding."
Nero nodded "Good. I want it done as soon as possible."
At the same time, a Brown Minion entered the room. He made his way to Gnarl and whispered something in his ear.
"What is it?" Nero glanced at Gnarl.
"It appears that the scouting parties had returned, sire" Gnarl answered. "Lofty here told me everything that the Minions have found."
"And what had they discovered around us?"
"According to Lofty..." Gnarl began, pulling out a map. "There are small tribes of Goblins and Orcs scattered around the area that we'll need to clear out."
Gnarl moved a finger to Ithrendel, identified as a large crudely drawn circle in the middle of the map. Gnarl firstly moved his finger around a black dot indicated as Ithrendel, then he pointed to the nearby mines, next to a town and finally some ruins.
"Firstly, sire we have some clusters of Orcs and Goblins surrounding the fortress that we'll need to clear out. Goblins are easy, but the Orcs could prove a little more of a challenge. But, I don't think that's something you'll find difficult, sire.
From there, it is either one of the three, Master. You can go for the abandoned town that is currently occupied by a tribe of Savage Orcs. Or maybe the abandoned mines for more Goblin slaying. Or maybe you'd like to go kill some bandits hiding in these ruins here"
"I see" Nero mused. "Well then, guess we'll have to clear them all out then. Abyss below, it's gonna be tiring."
"I would suggest starting with the Goblins in the mines, sire," Gnarl spoke. "That way we can gain access to precious metals there."
Nero nodded. "Agreed, the Iron deposits within those mines are needed for the production of sufficient quality of weapons and armour for the Minions. Sticks, stones and rusted metal ain't gonna last long especially against tougher enemies."
"The ruins we can leave for last. The Bandits are the least of our concern. We can start by clearing out the Goblins around your fortress, then we will proceed onto the mine, sire."
"Good, have everything prepared for tomorrow. We march at sunrise."
"Well said sire. By the way, would you like me to have Quaver get you, Dinner sire?"
"No."
"But it's already the time-"
"I said. No."
Timeskip
A scarlet sun looms over the horizon, rose rays of light stretching across the azure sky.
An unusual but rare phenomenon that brings one simple message.
Death.
Whilst the sun beckons forth life, a new beginning and another day to live, a red sun brings only the declaration of death. The loss of many souls, who would never live a new day.
The red sun has declared to all who see, that blood had been spilt, and it shall continue to do so.
Before the rising sun, Nero and his horde of Minions worked tirelessly in purging the forests. Tribe after tribe of Goblins were put to the sword. No mercy was given as Nero and his Minions slaughtered them all, one after the other.
Nero had encountered many Orc and Goblin tribes neighbouring the ruins of Ithrendel. Nothing remained of them.
Children included.
A mistake that all adventurers and armies make when dealing with Goblins was sparing the lives of their children. Those children would then grow to be more cunning and smarter than their parents.
Thus they too had to be put to the sword.
This is but a small extension of Nero's hatred of all of the horrific monsters of the world.
"Masta! Goblins no more! They are all dead!" A Green had declared to him.
Nero nodded, retracting his sword from the throat of a hobgoblin.
"Good. Begin looting their camp. We will then move on to the mines after"
The Green saluted before moving to relay Nero's orders to the others.
"Most impressive sire. Already you have destroyed 12 goblin tribes within a span of two hours"
This was Gnarl speaking through Nero's Helmet. The old Minion had established a communication link between himself and Nero. This allowed both parties to communicate with one another, even in thought.
"That's due to the number of Minions at my disposal that I was able to overwhelm them"
Nero observed the Minions under his command as they looted anything of value from the dead Goblins. Weapons, armour, gold and silver, and much more were taken. Whatever was found was immediately brought back to Ithrendel by Minion-drawn cart.
"Lots of weapons here masta!" A Brown Minion reported. The Minion was carrying a bunch of spears in his arms and his head was adorned with five helmets stacked together.
"Yes, now bring them to Ithrendel" Nero ordered. "Spares just mean better quantity"
With a goofy grin and a salute, the Brown quickly went on his way.
"Master! Master! Look what I found!" A Blue suddenly ran up to Nero and presented him with a book.
The book was fairly small, with its cover being of fine leather and gold ornaments. A symbol of a burning flame rested in the middle of the front cover.
"Why what do you know, one of the Minions have found you a spellbook sire"
Nero raised an eyebrow, taking the book from the Blue. "A Spellbook? Sorry but I don't do magic"
"Ah but that was before your rebirth as an Overlord sire. Now that you have become an Overlord you have the ability to manipulate magic sire. What type of magic I do not know, but in time we will see"
"Hmmm, interesting. Well that's really nice to know"
Nero was skimming through the pages within the spellbook. From what he had glanced at, some of the spells looked interesting to learn. They were all mainly fire-based spells of both offensive and defensive capabilities.
"I'll have a look at this in-depth later when we are done. Now we move onwards to the mines" Nero then turned towards the still looting Minions and barked out. "Hurry up! Once we're done, we're all going to attack the mines!"
"Master! Master!" A Red suddenly came up to him. "We found someone master!"
A group of Browns then appeared, dragging forth the individual that the Red had spoken.
A disgusted look forming on Nero's face."Well...what do we have here?"
The individual that the Browns were dragging forth to Nero was none other than an unconscious Black Dog.
"Well sire...this is quite an unexpected development"
"Quite unexpected indeed" Nero could all but snarl out a response. "I didn't expect them to be this far North"
"A scouting party perhaps?"
"We will have to be mind-full then. I don't want them to know that I'm alive"
"A wise decision"
"Masta! What do we do with him?!" One of the Browns asked him.
His fists clenched tightly into fists, and a scowl appeared on his face. Without proper thought, Nero declared.
"Kill hi-"
"Sire if I may?"
"...What is it Gnarl?"
"It would be best to bring him in for interrogation sire"
Nero grunted. "And what kind of information would someone like him give us? Is he even willing to give up information is the question I should have said. Black Dogs aren't known to give up information easily."
"Sire, have you no faith in me? We have a ton of different tools for getting a Man to talk. We have the Nutcracker, the Goat, and even better locking them up with Quaver for a whole day! His poetry can break the spirits of anyone!"
"That last one sounds super-effective."
"You have no idea."
"Fine...Bring the scum to the Dungeons! And have the tools ready to crack this egg…"
With the order given, the Browns took the Black Dog away. Nero then ordered the Minions to quickly finish their looting.
"Master, I admire your animosity for both the Black Dogs and Monsters alike, but you mustn't use it blindly. Other words; don't be an emotional fool. I have seen enough edgelords to know where this is going. PUBERTY! Control your hatred, Hone it, and use it!
"You will have your revenge in time, sire, however, you must focus. Quench your abundant hatred for your two adversaries as much as you can, focus solely on building up your power, then you can have your revenge"
"Humph, whatever"
"Now, now, don't be like that sire. A good Evil Overlord must not be consumed by his emotions. A good Evil Overlord must be the scheming force of destruction and manipulation! Not a temper tantrum throwing brat."
"I know that" Nero rolled his eyes. "You told me that the other day. But still, Besides, he is a fucking Black Dog, the traitorous bastards who betrayed me...betrayed my friends."
"All in good time, master...do not forget what is most important"
"...just, do me a favour and send over some more Minions here"
"They have already been dispatched to you, sire"
"Good, now let's go! Don't want to keep this part waiting!"
Timeskip
It didn't take long for Nero to reach the Mines. On a nearby hill, the young Overlord is able to get a brilliant picture of the mines below.
"Hmmm, that's a lot of tents I see, Sire"
"No kidding Gnarl" Nero replied. "I see groups of Goblins down there, lots of them." The Overlord rubbed his chin "Only one way into the mines, and if my hunch is correct, that's a troll they're keeping in that pen over there"
"A troll is going to be a bit difficult to handle"
"Normally we'd deal with them with archers or pikes, and we don't have any with us"
"We can kill them with fire"
"And how long will it take to kill it with that method?" Nero rolled his eyes.
"Do you have a plan for countering them, sire?"
"I might have…"
"Masta! Masta!" A Brown Minion ran up to him.
"What is it?" Nero asked the Minion.
"We found another way! We found a sneaky way!"
"Show me"
This sneaky way that the Brown Minion spoke of, was a small crack located on the bottom of a nearby hill, well hidden behind a cluster of trees and shrubs.
"Are you sure that this leads inside the mines?" Nero asked the Minion.
"Yes-yes!" replied the Brown. "We checked, and it does! Master is able to sneak behind them Goblins and kill them!"
"Good job"
"This should make this mission much easier for you, Master"
"Nothing is easy Gnarl. Always expect the unexpected" Nero turned to the same Brown Minion. "You take a bunch of Minions where we were. Await my signal to charge down the hill"
"What's the signal, Master?" The Brown asked him.
"I'll emerge from the caves with fire as the signal. That clear?"
"Y-yes mastah!"
"Good"
And so Nero shuffled into the crack, followed by his group of Minions.
Otherside
After some minor difficulties, Nero was able to squeeze his way to the other side of the crack.
"Ugh, never gonna do something like that again" Nero muttered. "Barely fit through!"
"Oh but sire, you're not thinking of going back to being skinny now are you?"
"You are such a FUCKING comedian Gnarl, regardless it's a miracle that I was able to fit through. What's also one is that there's ambient lighting here"
Nero glanced over at one of the glowing crystals that hung on the cavern wall. It shone bright enough that lighting a torch isn't required.
"Mastar! Mastar! We're all here!" A brown Minion saluted. Behind him were an assembled group of battle-ready Minions.
"Good" Nero nodded. "Have two Minions go scout ahead, and the rest of you follow me."
Whilst the two Minions went ahead, the rest of the army that stayed with Nero treaded forwards. Thanks to the help of the two scouts, Nero and the others were able to avoid many deadly hazards within the cavern.
It wasn't long until they encountered their first obstacle.
"Damn, there are rocks blocking our way," Nero growled.
Indeed, blocking Nero was an accumulation of boulders and stones, larger than the Overlord.
"Sire, the Minions can clear them up for you."
"That'll be nice, but that'll take too long," Nero answered. "And we don't have time for that."
"You lot" Nero addressed the Green Minions. "Can you look around for any exits or something?"
The Greens all saluted before running off to do their assigned task.
A few minutes later the Green Minions returned from their scouting.
"Mastah! We found a way out!" The Green Minion reported back.
Nero nodded happily. "Excellent"
"But! We found something too! Something bright and hot! Follow me!"
Thus the Green Minion led Nero down back where they walked before, to a small but narrow passageway, visible on the cavern wall.
"Huh, didn't notice that there"
"Dark make very sneaky! Dark very good"
"Are you sure this leads a way out of here?"
"Yes, masta! Leads to new place. Something special found-found! Come! See!"
Nero turned around and pointed at the nearest Brown Minion. "You stay here with the other Minions, the Green and I will be going through the passage. Once we're through, you start squeezing your way through, that clear?"
Nero received a chorus of "Yes master!" and "Yes evil one!" from the Minions. Nero, followed by the Green Minion then slipped through the small opening.
"It's really dark here" Nero stated. "Can't see even a bloody thing!"
"Forgive me master, but I can see just fine" Gnarl commented. "It's because of the spell that I'm using to look through your eyes"
"Wait, shouldn't I have excellent vision in the dark? Since you know…"
"Sorry about that sire, some features were overlooked for time restraints. Now that I'm remembering that spell…"
A few seconds passed, and unexpectedly out of the blue, Nero felt a sharp pain in his head that came before disappearing.
"What was that?"
"Finished! I have basically given you the ability to see in the dark."
True to Gnarl's words, Nero could now see clearly the grimy cave walls and the funereal path ahead.
"The spell will last for an hour, so it'll probably be best to get going"
"Alright then" Nero nodded and glanced at his guide. " Lead the way"
"This way mastah"
And so, Nero followed the Green Minion as it led him down the cavernous archway. A few feet behind them, the other Minions followed although at a slower pace.
As the Green Minion continued leading Nero, the young Overlord began to take note of the changing environment. The rough, misshaped walls of the cave began to shift into smoother walls with cracks becoming apparent.
"It seems the Minion has discovered something here, sire"
"It seems so, Gnarl," Nero replied. "These walls look to be ancient… and intact. Wherever we are, it seems that we need to go through it"
"It would seem so sire"
"Well this is gonna be-hold on a second"
"What is it, sire?"
"I...just don't know, but I'm having this tingling feeling of sorts like it's calling to me…"
"That must be your magical senses' tingling sire. They must have picked up something in your area!"
"When did I have such a thing?"
"Probably developed it during your coma, sire"
"I don't like this feeling, Gnarl. I can't describe it, but it is full of animosity"
"Be on alert sire, I will send more Minions to your side"
"Thanks, Gnarl" Nero glanced at the Minions behind him. "As for the lot of you! Be on guard! We might just have a big fight ahead of us!"
The Minions cheered and cackle with glee.
Lore
1.2
Orcoids: Types
There are many different types of Orc subspecies that are scattered throughout the known world. Here are a few documented by the Traveller; Ilias.
Orcs:the generic and normal kind of Orcoid. The most common subspecies of orc and found in almost every part of the world. They breed with almost any creature, and their offspring are mainly orc, with rare exceptions of half-orcs.
Pig Orcs: Pig-like creatures, the second most common subspecies of orcoid that can be found in any part of the world.
Savage Orcs: Subspecies of Orcs who had devolved back into primitive ways. Easily identifiable by their stone weaponry, tribal warpaint and clothing. Unlike other orcs, they have Shamans instead of Chieftains or Warbosses as their tribe leaders.
Half-Orcs: Half-human, half-orc subspecies who exist in low numbers around the world, thus they are rare. According to Ilias, after careful observation, there is a 1/10 chance that a woman of any species would give birth to a half-orc, as all offspring produced are Orcs. They are identified by their appearance akin to their mother race although with one or two orcish characteristics i.e. skin colour, nose, ears, teeth or body shape.
