The Dutch embassy had let Hawkeye know they had maybe found Chris's family, they were still figuring things out to be sure and they would let the man know if they were more positive Sidney kept sending them reports over Chris, and they are pleased with the approval words of the man over the doctor.
Chris seemed to be doing great. Because of this positive lead on Christophers' family, the embassy had asked Sidney to wait with the hypnosis till they were sure. They believed it would be better if his family was present during, if of course this was indeed his family. But the timeline seemed to match.
Hawkeye felt his insides drop while he read that letter, but he quickly pushed the sad empty feeling down. The embassy and the army knew about his plan to adopt the boy, Hawkeye just needed to be patient. He kept telling himself that it all would work out, he didn't know how he would react if this family wanted Chris, and he didn't want to find out.
He called Sidney, and finally got a hold of him about 5 hours later. Hawkeye had asked for all the information Sidney had, after hearing it wasn't more than he already knew. he added.
"But Sidney, What about the adoption, will they prevent it, they didn't say anything in the letter." He just needed to know.
"Hawkeye it's a good thing you didn't hear anything because they're not even sure it is his family, they are contacting the people now, and then there will be a blood test to be sure. We can't do anything now but wait. The embassy knows you are the best fit at the moment, and until you hear something else, that is still the case. Sidney said rational
"I will not let go without a fight!" Hawkeye said a lot less rational than Sidney was.
"I'm gonna be like a bulldog, I am not letting go without a fight. I will throw every lawsuit on them. I'll even kidnap him before I give him over, even if they are perfect." sighing tiredly, Hawkeye sat down on the chair near the phone.
"Who I'm I kidding? If they are perfect I wouldn't stand in the way, but I just don't want that!
"You need to calm down, Chris wants to stay with you, so unless they are in fact perfect, he stays with you. I can promise you." Sidney replied
"Thank you, Sidney, I'm sorry for the, well the whole conversation could have gone a bit more gently on my part, but I was a bit upset.
That was this morning, and he has felt down ever since. Right now they were working on several casualties in the O.R, so he needed a clear head. But the sad feeling remained, it was the not knowing part that was awful. Preparing for heartbreak while remaining hopeful, seemed impossible. He also had to act normal for Chris's sake, Chris seemed to feel his emotion and he didn't want to confuse the child.
Hawkeye had his hands on a soldier's stomach, feeling around for shrapnel. Asking for an instrument from his nurse he got it in an instant, "Thank you" the doctor said, he looked to his left, and instead of his nurse, he found little Chris pleased with himself.
"Christopher, no" He tried to be gentle but Chris still looked shocked. His heart broke at the fallen expression of the child. He was immensely proud of Chris for knowing the right scalpel, but a child should not have one in his hands, to begin with.
"I'm not mad, I still love you and I'm glad for your help kiddo! But you got your work to do, remember? Besides, a scalpel is not a toy and I don't want you touching it. Understood?"
Hawkeye told Chris while he got his hands inside a person fixing his stomach.
He never thought this was something that would happen in his life. He started to tell the boy he loved him a couple of days ago, which was true, he did a lot. He had never been a father or even an uncle himself, and this was a whole new feeling of loving and caring for a junior.
At the small nod of the boy he continued, he had Chris his complete attention on him, like he always did when he got stern with him, the boy looked with sadness and disappointment back at the man. He did not make this easy on Hawkeye.
"You still got your schoolwork to do! You're too young to be a nurse, and learning English is for you more important right now and I want you to do that first, understand?"
Hawkeye looked at Chris as the boy gave a sad nod.
"Well, go on then"
Chris his eyes are glossy from fighting the tears but he did as he was told and took off back to his sitting area and back to his books.
Chris looked so sad, but Hawkeye wouldn't make the child work in the O.R, a child shouldn't work in the first place, especially not around so much blood and death and of course not around very sharp objects.
Feeling heartbroken at being sent away Chris went back to his work, Hawkeye called it his schoolwork, he already finished two books and was working on the third. People always were excited when he showed them and told him he was really smart. He loved that and he loved learning English and to write, but now he just felt disappointed because he wanted to help and he couldn't.
It's been weeks since Hawkeye started giving Chris a normal bedtime. It went mostly well unless Hawkeye stepped out of the Swamp. For some reason, the boy always knew when he was left alone. Not if he went away for a short time, but longer than 30 min was a no-go.
Hawkeye didn't know if he should discipline the boy if he came looking for him, while he should be in bed. Hawkeye knew Chris was scared to be left alone and he didn't think he could discipline the boy for that.
He did smack Chris on his bottom about three nights ago when he found him hanging around the Clerk's room around 3 o'clock, Hawkeye was doing his rounds checking in on the patients. Radar's room, which is the Clerks room as well, is also the room next to O.R.
Hawkeye sees the small blond head of hair through the door window, and feeling his irritating rise he walks toward the boy. Getting up in the night to follow him because he was afraid was a whole different situation than reading comic books.
Chris looked up at the sound of the door open and saw an angry Hawkeye come his way. He immediately remembered that he wasn't supposed to wander off, but he was looking for Hawkeye and he got distracted by Radar's new comic book.
"Christopher! Come here please," Hawkeye said stern yet gentle. He was standing by the door in his doctor's coat and pointing at the spot close to him.
Chris jumped a little and his face got bright red upon hearing his name so sternly, Hawkeye sounded mad.
Tears sprung into his eyes as he saw the disappointment in Hawkeye's eyes. No! He forgot about wandering around at night.
Trembling, he made his way over to stand next to the man. Why was he such a bad kid? He wanted Hawkeye to like him, but he seemed to mess it up.
When Chris was at the appointed spot Hawkeye took hold of the boy's upper arm, turned him sideways, and gave a light smack on his backside. He didn't know what kind of reaction Chris would give, but the boy gave a sort of soft squeak and turned bright red. Some tears escaped from his eyes but Chris brushed that away quickly.
So that was a smack on my bottom? He didn't expect that, and he was not proud of that squeak through. It was just so unexpected, and so embarrassing, that he didn't like it at all. He felt his face burn hot, the moment he felt the tap on his backside.
He also got the familiar feeling that something like this happened to him before but all he got was an empty head again, when he tried to remember, with the lingering sadness. The only thing he knew was he didn't like it! The smack didn't hurt but it was crazy embarrassing for some reason.
Hawkeye turned Chris back to face him and got eye contact before he said.
"Didn't I tell you, you would be punished if you wandered off" without waiting for a nod he continued. "I get that you are afraid and want to be close! But if you can read comic books at night, you can also go back to bed and sleep!" Hawkeye said sternly, he was still holding Chris's arm.
"I don't make empty threats, mister! Do I make myself clear?"
Chris quickly nodded, he was so sorry, he didn't want to behave badly and disappoint Hawkeye, the man who started to mean everything to him. He just forgot to be scared for a moment and the comic book looked swell. He only looked at a couple of pages and didn't hear the man come in.
Hawkeye sighed, he didn't like to discipline his kid, but he would, he'd have to if Chris kept misbehaving. And he only gave a light swat to the boy's shorts, he knew he needed to be gentle with Chris. Hawkeye was glad nobody was around except for the patients, it wouldn't matter anyway because a child getting smacked in public was common. Especially if it was just a smack on the trousers. But Chris already seemed so embarrassed.
If Chris was his normal 10-year-old kid, he wouldn't have hesitated to give one or even two harder smacks, but of course, Chris was a traumatized child and seemed emotionally younger than he should be, which was normal Sidney explained in one of his letters, Chris his mind was blocked and therefore had missed some time to grow and develop, while his body didn't have that problem. He will grow out of it if they get him stable enough.
Knowing he made an impact on Chris, who seemed like his world was collapsing at the moment, he decided Chris had enough. He sighed, and put his arms around the softly crying boy and held him tight.
"It's okay kiddo. I'm not mad anymore and I still love you. I promise." He gives the boy a kiss on his head. He felt the crying more than he heard it, Chris always cried silently or he tried to at least. Hawkeye caressed the small back and felt the crying getting less.
"So do you want to go back to bed or do you want to stay with me during my rounds?" Hawkeye asked when he noticed Chris calmed down.
After nodding they went to the patients. Chris stayed no further than a foot away from the doctor the whole night, even after Hawkeye kept saying he could go sit down if he wanted. It almost caused some concern for the doctor but the next day Chris was back to normal, so it was just a side reaction of being punished.
Getting his attention back to the present he noticed Father Mulcahy standing next to him.
"How's it going?" The man asked
Instead of answering Hawkeye wiped the sweat off his forehead off the man's shoulder. He had both his hands in a patient at the moment.
"The lord helps in one way or another"
The Priest said with a smile.
The daylight almost burned Chris's eyes when he and Hawkeye left the O.R.
"Hello, you beautiful day." Hawkeye stood there with wide arms basking in the sunlight. It has been a long session in the O.R. and he was beat! The other doctors also emerged from the building.
Frank of course started a big argument, which got the other doctors outraged and they started speaking loud, back and forth to each other.
Chris couldn't understand, they were going too fast and he only knew the simple sentences. They didn't seem to need him though, so that's okay, he would just wait.
Radar emerged out of nowhere, to talk to the Colonel. It took the smaller man some time to be heard, but he managed after a while, and finally showed the man the message from Hammond.
While reading, Henry got an enthusiastic smile.
" Hey, listen to this, guys!
The 4077th has now achieved a 90% efficiency rating, the best record of any medical unit operating in Korea!"
Everyone got excited about that, Chris didn't know what it meant until Hawkeye told him, they were the best unit in Korea and they are going to have a party. So yes Chris got excited too. Hawkeye seemed so sad this morning and when Chris tried to help he just messed up, so maybe a party will help.
The party however didn't happen that day or the next. It happened on the third day and it was more of a ceremony than a party.
Chris felt disappointed, he tried to cheer up Hawkeye for days now. Following him and making sure he was happy and had anything he needed, it didn't work though, and he still seems upset. And now this was turning out to be not a fun party. Hawkeye even pretended to fall asleep during Henry's speech.
"I have one more announcement!" Hammond said, taking in the center of the stage.
"Colonel Blakes's experience is needed elsewhere, for administrative and training duties."
A shocked mumble went to the crowd
"Now he's being assigned to Tokyo medical headquarters effective immediately."
Chris wanted to know what was happening and pulled carefully on Hawkeye's bathrobe to get the man's attention.
Feeling the small pull on his robe, Hawkeye knew Chris wanted to know what was going on. He put his hand on Chris's head and said, Henry's leaving.
He saw it in the boy's eyes when it clicked, they got miserable, and Chris stepped closer. Hawkeye put his arm around the child and they went back to the Swamp. He needed to explain this carefully to the child.
Hawkeye explained to Chris why Henry was leaving, and Chris understood but it still made him sad, he liked the man. He was nice and funny at times. Henry smacked his hand away yesterday when Chris had wanted to touch the colorful fishing gear without asking, it earned him a stern expression from Hawkeye and an explanation about asking before you touch.
Henry told him they were sharp and he could hurt himself. Chris didn't understand how something that soft-looking could hurt him but Henry demonstrated it by getting his hand stuck on one of the hooks on his hat after he slammed his hand on it by accident.
Chris was startled at first but Hawkeye laughed out loud and even Henry laughed, so it seemed okay. And it even seemed funny.
It was a couple of hours of packing later, and now it was time to say goodbye to henry. Hawkeye and Trapper gave the Colonel a Brasserie and told him to have it filled in Tokyo, which the man appreciated a lot judging by his smile.
Frank came by with a box of his stuff and went inside Henry's old tent.
"He's taking his things into your house," Hawkeye said
"Well.. uh …, that's Frank quarters now. Henry replied nervously, a bit afraid to tell the bad news.
"Frank's quarters? Him? He's our new boss?"
The duo stammered, shocked, and not at all pleased.
"Well he's next in command, you see." Henry replied.
Hawkeye made a face and Trapper looked like he was going to be sick.
Meanwhile, Chris stepped forward to Henry and tugged his uniform.
"Aww kid, don't look at me like that, those big blue eyes." Henry stammered a bit
"I'm gonna miss you too."
Henry then gave the boy a hug and a pat on the head and stepped inside the jeep.
Hawkeye smiled.
"Aww he got the sweetest kid, well maybe got"
A cold feeling got over Hawkeye. But he ignored it and tried to act normal. He didn't tell Chris about his possible found family, he didn't want to upset the boy, or worse, get his hopes up.
Frank walked outside his new quarters and looked at the two doctors. Frank always kinda ignored Chris, unless Chris was bothering him then he had a lot to say about it. Not that Hawkeye let him, he always made sure the man got silent real fast, mostly with a snappy remark or joke but a hit on the head would also suffice.
After making a couple of weird gestures to Frank the three of them went to the Swamp. Hawkeye wrote his father about Chris multiple times, and now Hawkeye was expressing to the man in writing, how scared he was about losing Chris. Daniel Pierce already had Hawkeye's old bedroom ready for Chris the moment he was officially adopted. Hawkeye would miss him a lot when Chris got to the states, but a child should not live in a war zone, not while there are other options. It was just not safe, and Hawkeye would do anything in his power to keep the boy safe and healthy. At least they would see each other again after this war.
Chris seemed to stay extra close to Hawkeye, leaning against him while working on his school work. The second and third courses were already on their way over, Chris went fast with his learning, but it was still pretty easy stuff. But Christopher proved to be a smart kid.
Hawkeye was glad that Chris seemed a lot happier than when they found him. He smiled more and even played around with all kinds of stuff he found. He always asked before he played with it.
Late that night Radar was still working on making the office to Frank's liking, while Frank himself was barking orders and directions.
"Here's tomorrow's routine, see that it's posted," Frank said, giving the smaller man the paper.
"They're not gonna like this" Radar replied looking up from the sheet after reading it.
"I didn't come here to be liked!" Frank replied snarling
"You certainly came to the right place." Radar said while walking away.
The next morning Chris jumped up wide awake, startled by the loud bugle noise going through the camp. He felt completely in shock, he trembled and fear took over his body, and decided to crawl under his rack. He didn't fit but managed to tip the thing over on its side so he was hiding behind it.
Hawkeye groaned, this was way too loud! And way too early.
He turned over and with his eyes still closed felt around for Chris, knowing the boy would be startled. When he felt nothing he opened his eyes. And saw the rack on his side, his sleepy brain could not figure out what happened.
"He's hiding under the bed, sort off," Trapper said yawning
Getting his eyes to focus Hawkeye saw the tipped-over rack a lot better. And he saw the little boy huddle between their racks.
He got up and got the bed moved before he got the kid standing in front of him for seconds. Chris grabbed the man's waist and buried his face against his upper belly. He was crying softly, the sound must have startled the boy. Without a single thought, Hawkeye embraced the kid immediately and after a couple of seconds, he felt Chris calm down a little.
Radar walked into the Swamp while Hawkeye was explaining about the sound and the army. He was talking softly to the crying boy in his arms.
Radar told them he needed to inform them that Burns wanted them ready and outside now.
After getting several things thrown to his head Radar quickly left the building without another word.
Frank took over as commander and as the tyrant he is, Making them do early morning calisthenics.
It was a crazy sight to Chris, all the adults were jumping and swinging their arms around. Like they were trying to fly. He didn't understand why they would do that, but no one asked him to do the same, and he was glad for that.
It looked silly and Chris couldn't help but giggle at the sight. He got a smile from Hawkeye so he knew the man was not angry about the sound. Every time he made a sound, he got so scared and panicked, he couldn't remember why but it just happened.
He still couldn't talk, every time he tried, he felt so much fear and a distant vague memory reminded him of pain. Even though he couldn't remember the details. The moment he wanted to talk, he immediately fell quiet. But some sounds slipped through, like a giggle or a startling sound.
Even with the extra calisthenics and army routines Frank goes even further and confiscates the still in the Swamp.
Hawkeye concludes that the only solution is to bring Henry back. Aside from killing Frank, that is.
The resourceful Radar goes through his stack and produces two passes to Tokyo that he has somehow "obtained".
And Tokyo was a sight to be seen, Chris had never seen anything like that, it was crowded and there were cars around instead of jeeps. It seemed a whole different world than he knew. People walked everywhere and he heard a lot of different music and sounds.
He stayed close to Hawkeye, never letting go of his hand or clothes. This place terrified him, but he was also intrigued by it. Most of the smells and the sounds were new to him, but he loved the bright colorful sight. The people too seemed happy, so it must not be a terrible place to be.
They somehow managed to find the bathhouse Henry was presumed to go to and sneak into the room, and even into the bath.
Chris had never seen anything like this big bath, Hawkeye and Trapper got undressed and got in. Chris stood there nervously, he wanted in but didn't know who to ask.
Grinning from out of the bathtub Hawkeye said.
"Well if you want in you need to drop your clothes!"
Chris stripped down to his boxer, just like Hawkeye, folded his clothes, and put them on the bench. Hawkeye almost rolled his eyes at the gesture, but he shouldn't discourage good behavior.
Looking around his clothes just thrown around the floor, he sighed. He needed to be a better role model.
Chris needed help getting in off course but Hawkeye obliged.
The water felt great and Chris got a similar deja vu moment again. Even after clearing his empty head, the sad feeling remained for a second.
Maybe he got sad about not remembering it or the sadness had something to do with the memory, Chris didn't know.
Hawkeye and Trapper were trying to convince Henry to come back and take over again, Frank was being a moron and a tyrant.
Chris couldn't swim but Hawkeye held him above water and seemed to have a lot of fun doing it.
Hawkeye decided to pretend he was a shark, to toy around with Chris, but Chris didn't get the joke and Hawkeye stopped. He would explain later. He instead tickled the boy but Chris looked frightened. He would explain that as well when they got back. Maybe he shouldn't try new things like that in a new location. He would try again back at the Swamp, in his safe place.
Later after the bath, Henry was lying down on his belly and a lady was walking on his back. Chris watched with astonishment. Why would anyone do that? It seemed uncomfortable and painful even.
He looked at Hawkeye with confusion, but Hawkeye just said he would understand when he's older.
After Henry's massage, the doctors were still going strong in their arguments to get Blake to come back, but he kept strong by refusing.
They were now sitting in a small tea room while being served by a Korean woman. The table was filled with food, like tiny rice bowls and sake.
Hawkeye was munching on his rice and got his tea handed to him. When he saw it was Chris who served him, he smiled widely and briefly hugged the boy. Taking a sip of his tea his mind just connected the dots. Chris behaved like a Korean woman!
He looked at Chris who sat next to him, and back to the Korean woman serving their drinks. They even sat the same. Chris was definitely imitating the Korean women.
That's why Chris is serving people so much, he thought. He did spend some time with a bunch of them, maybe he learned it there.
Feeling a bit uneasy about the way Chris sat the same way as the Korean women as if he was trained, Hawkeye flung his arms around his kid and dragged him a bit closer. Hawkeye has always been an affectionate guy and he was glad Chris seemed to like it as well. As Chris leaned into the doctor Hawkeye started again with the arguments. He would write to Sidney later about this. He needed to know if he should stop this behavior.
The call from the unit came through at the perfect timing, just as the doctors planned. They were telling Henry about a difficult medical case that was in trouble at the moment.
Henry didn't look interested until they let it slip that Radar is the difficult case. That made all the difference and Henry fixed them a chopper right away and they left immediately.
Arriving at the 4077th they immediately went to the recovering room. Radar was lying on one of the beds. After Blakes examines Radar, who gives a great performance of faking being sick, he tells the staff to prep this man for OR.
Radar, who is of course not really sick, got scared about that fact. The doctors started to quarrel about it, trying to get Henry to take more tests and wait before he decides to open up Radar.
Frank on the other hand was not interested in Radar at all, but HE was the new commanding officer and Blake needed his permission! And the man didn't even ask him, so Frank scoffed at the man.
"There's not going to be any operation. And if you don't like it, call General Hammond."
"I might do that," said Henry turning to face Frank
"Want me to get General Hammond for you, sir?" Radar offered
"Yeah, you do that," Henry said, not paying too much attention to the smaller man, he was getting clean scrubs while Burns stood in his face arguing about the command of this unit.
Rader jumped out of bed and put on his glasses. And already started getting the phone to work.
Henry, who was still arguing with Frank, walked past and finally noticed the younger man standing and looking not sick at all.
The heated conversation he was having dropped as he walked towards Radar.
Radar looked up and remembered that he was supposed to be sick, dropping the phone, he started groaning and dropped down on the chair near the phone.
"He was goldbricking. I told you so." Frank said giggling
Turning to the younger man Blake asked.
"Radar, are you sick?"
"Well, I feel a lot better than I did." Rader voiced a bit guilty.
Hawkeye and Trapper tried to leave the recovery room after that confession, quietly without being noticed.
"Hold it. Nobody, move! . Now, what's going on here?
Henry demanded, stopping the doctors right in their tracks.
After explaining that they wanted Henry back because Frank was just being terrible, and working this unit into the ground.
Frank wanted to call the MPs and already had the phone to his ear when Henry interfered.
"Henry, as commanding officer, I --" Frank started but Henry cut him off.
"Correction: you were the commanding officer!
I'm taking over as of now." Everybody except for Frank cheered.
Chris smiled, at least that cheered Hawkeye up. He looked happily at the man with a grin. He got a big grin returned and Hawkeye plucked him in a big hug, making Chris sigh as he melted into the other man.
After Henry returned, everything got back to their kind of normal. They even got the still back, but Chris knew Hawkeye was still upset about something. He seemed normal most of the time, but sometimes sadness filled his eyes. Chris could feel it radiate from the man.
They were lounging in the Swamp. Chris got the doctors their drinks and they liquored up themselves with their new batch of homemade gin.
Chris got new books yesterday and he tried to make Hawkeye happy by working hard on them. And when he showed Hawkeye, the man was really encouraging and proud, like always! But there was that sadness as well.
Chris couldn't understand it. Maybe he did something wrong, every time he wanted to help or cheer the man up, Hawkeye just got sadder. Maybe he was the problem, maybe the man didn't want him anymore. But every time Chris asked for affection he still got it. It puzzled the boy, but he couldn't ask about it, so he just kept doing what he was doing.
Even if Hawkeye didn't want him, Christopher would not leave his side, he refuses to. This was the first person he could remember, that cared so much. And Christopher refused to give that up. They couldn't make him leave.
"Trapper?" Hawkeye said, getting the man's attention.
"Did you see how Chris was acting the same as the Korean women at that bathhouse?" Hawkeye continued
Chris his ears perked at that, they were talking about him, and he wanted to know.
"Not really, I didn't see anything except the women. And Henry lying there under their feet."
"Not the walking part, moron!" Hawkeye threw a dirty stinking sock his way. "Hey!"
"No, I mean the serving part, getting us stuff and sitting there next to us waiting to help." Hawkeye shot a glance at the boy, Chris seemed to be working, but Hawkeye didn't know if the boy listened to them. Chris understood more than he could write and he didn't want to upset the child.
Trapper's eyes widened sitting straighter on his bed he looked at the boy
"Now that you say it, yes he does."
Chris looked back, was that a bad thing to do? He looked at Hawkeye who just smiled back. He didn't seem mad, but he sounded concerned about it.
Not getting any information from the man, Chris went back to his writing, slightly annoyed. He wanted to know what the doctors expected from him, so he could make them appreciate him, and maybe then they would let them stay.
"What do you think about it? He probably learned that with the ladies of the night. It's making me a bit uneasy but I don't know if I should discourage it. I'm writing Sidney right now, but I wondered what you thought as well."
"You know you don't have to do that right Chris" Hawkeye added to the boy.
Chris nodded and looked at him with unhappy eyes.
Didn't Hawkeye like it? He must be doing something wrong, he learned that if you care about someone, you let them know by doing little things for them and making sure they were happy, but Christopher seemed to mess it up again.
Tears started in his eyes and he tried to suppress a sniffle but failed. He was such a bad kid!
"Ohh, kiddo! Please come here, don't cry." Hawkeye said a little shocked at the reaction of the boy. Gathering Chris in his arms and positioning the boy next to him he explained.
"I just don't want you to think you have to do this stuff to make us happy, we are happy anyway with you here! understand?"
Hawkeye said.
Snuggling closer Chris gave a nod, he understood he didn't have to, but he wanted to show the man how much he meant to him, especially without him being able to just say it.
"If Chris likes it, it probably couldn't hurt right? He always lights up like a Christmas tree after doing that." Trapper said
"As long as you understand, you don't have to. " Hawkeye said again to the boy. He got a nod from the boy. Chris had stopped sniffling and seemed a bit more calmed down.
"I also want to explain to you that you are not allowed to touch any medical instruments, " Hawkeye said, taking on his stern voice.
Chris immediately looked up at the man with confusion. Why?
"They are not toys, they are sharp and you could hurt yourself or someone else with that. I'm immensely proud of the fact you knew the right instrument I asked for but, you are not allowed to touch them. Understood? "
Hawkeye saw the understanding in the boy's eyes and Christopher nodded.
It was so easy to read him and make him happy. It always amazed him how easy it had become to talk with the boy. They were both very intelligent and understood each other very well. He gave the child a big smile before putting his hand on his head.
The little boy smiled brightly back. His bright blue eyes seemed to glow as he stared up into the older man's eyes.
Maybe he did something right, Hawkeye seemed happy with him.
