The next morning Chris awoke slowly. It took him a few moments before he realized where he was.

He rolled over in his bunk, looking at the other side of it. His dad was still asleep and making snoring sounds. Chris smiled, it sounded funny!

It would be a busy day today, Hawkeye told him people were coming to the 4077th, they would sing or something, he didn't know exactly.

Sidney and Frans would be leaving today also, he got a bit sad about that. He would miss the two men, even though Sidney made him a bit uneasy at times. Sidney seemed to look right through Chris, and he didn't always like that. He seemed to know everything.

Hawkeye groaned and started to wake up. He heard footsteps nearing the tent and the quick knock that followed. As Radar walked into the tent. "Morning, Hawkeye." He said happily.

Hawkeye turned around sleepy and replied. "Morning, Radar. What's going on?" Hawkeye yawned and stretched his arms above him.

"Nothing bad, just mail." Radar explained.

Looking at his son Hawkeye smiled softly. "I see you've woken up too. A good morning for you as well" The laughing man said, ruffling the boy's already messy hair. He got rewarded with a small giggle from Chris. Which was followed by the child's shocked expression.

It looked like the little boy was trying to apologize but stopped midway when the adult smiled.

"Hey it's okay, ". the older man whispered soothingly. That seemed to do the trick.

Later in the mess hall, they were having breakfast when the door slammed open and Radar walked in.

"Guys! You probably haven't heard yet but Colonel Blake is expecting a baby any moment." He explained enthusiastically. "You can still bet on the outcome."

Radar said knowing Hawkeye was going to ask for it.

"Ohh boy, Ohh boy, " Hawkeye said while scanning the clipboard. He was feeling giddy, the army is sending entertainment today, a comedian and singers.

"Can I borrow five bucks from you?" Hawkeye said turning the Trapper

What no way! I gave you 5 bucks two days ago!"

"Trap! There's no way I can lose, I'm positive it's a baby!"

"How would you know, if you never met Henry's wife!" Trapper countered.

"I'll cover you." Frans said putting 5 bucks down. " It's just one more reason for you guys to visit us in Holland."

"You don't need to bribe me! We were already planning to visit after the war. But if you need to bribe me, just so you know! Alcohol works better." Hawkeye said, laughing at him.

"Oh really? I will remember that. We will have several Dutch drinks for you if you visit! " Frans said excitedly.

Then the teen turned a bit sad, he sighed and put his hand on Chris' head gently. "Ik ga je missen, Wouter!" (I'm going to miss you, Wouter!)

The boy looked at Frans "I'm going to miss you too!" He felt tears well up behind his eyes.

"Hey. Don't cry. It's going to be okay. You guys are coming over for a visit after this war, so I can show you how it is over there."

Chris nodded, he felt Hawkeye's hand stroking his shoulders, after a gentle squeeze the hand disappeared. But it helped to dry his tears, he got his dad.

"Ohh the entertainment is here!" Radar said before hurrying out of the mess hall.

"I don't hear anything!" Frans said, confused.

"Wait for it, Radar's always right about things like that!"

And of course, Radar was right, a couple of seconds after the clerk walked out they heard trucks arriving and people making wolf whistles to the lady singers.

Chris wanted to go see outside, he didn't trust new people and he wanted to know who they were. But his dad insisted that he eat all his food. So it took some minutes before they stood outside. Sidney and Frans walked to the VIP tent to get their bags, the jeep would arrive soon.

People were walking around the stage. The stage itself was made a day beforehand.

"Nice girls though," Trapper said watching the three blond Miller Sisters, who would be singing today.

Chris looked at the girls, he didn't see the appeal of the ladies but he loved their scarves. Soft blue with white spots and they looked soft and shiny. He wished he could feel it, but the new people also scared him, and he was not going near them at all.

After a while Sidney and Frans emerged from the VIP tent, they packed their bags, and now it was time to say goodbye. Their jeep was ready and waiting.

Hawkeye stirred a sad Chris towards the jeep.

Frans put his bag in the jeep and turned to Chris, with a sad sign he said.

"I'm sorry, I wish I could stay here longer."

Chris started to tear up.

"Don't cry, it's okay!" Frans hugged him.

"I will write okay? Promise to write back to me?"

Chris nodded and wiped his eyes.

Hawkeye needed to say goodbye to Frans, he needed to tell the man how much he appreciated their trust in him, to be able to raise Christopher.

"I just want you to know something Frans." Hawkeye had taken the younger man aside so that Chris could have a moment with Sidney as well.

"You've been nothing but a real friend to me and Chris since this all started. Well after I was sure you didn't want to take Chris away from me, that is!"

Hawkeye laughed and put his hand on the teen's shoulder.

"You're smart, kind, and a good man. I'm happy to know you in my life. And I want to let you know I consider you and your grandmother my family."

Frans gave him a watery smile.

"Thanks, Hawkeye. You're a good guy. And I know you are a father who will always love Chris no matter what...I'm glad to add you to my family as well."

Hawkeye turned to Sidney and gave the man a hand.

"Thank you, Sidney. You helped us a lot. Chris appears to have changed so much already.

"Now he can heal, and that's your job," Sidney replied with a gentle smile and humor in his eyes.

As the jeep drove off Hawkeye felt small arms around his waist as Chris snuggled close, the child was sniffing softly.

Putting his arm around his kid, he led the boy toward the stage.

The comedian had started and people were finding seats. Looking over all the people he saw Trapper, who held two extra seats free.

It only took about two minutes before Hawkeye realized the comedian wasn't funny at all. He grimaced and looked over at a very bored Trapper. Even Chris didn't find him funny, and he didn't even know any jokes, or maybe he just doesn't understand. But Hawkeye chooses to believe his kid had a better sense of humor than this guy.

Meanwhile, in Henry's office, the nervous soon-to-be dad walked circles in his office when Radar walked in.

"Why aren't you out there at the switchboard?" the Colonel said harsher than he intended to the clerk.

"Well, you asked me to come into the office." The young man answered

"They could Phone about my wife at any minute."

"Well," Radar responded, "You just spoke to the hospital and she hasn't even gone into labor yet."

"Don't argue with me! It's bad enough that she's having a baby and I can't even be there with her!" The Colonel said seething while he walked towards the clerk.

Radar quickly walked backward to avoid a collision with the nervous man.

The clerk could hastily add a "Yes sir!" before his back hit the door and he walked out.

Henry turned towards his desk but before he could take a step Radar appeared again and said happily.

"Well, at least you were there for the important part!"

At the stormy look of his Colonel, he quickly turned and walked out again.

The comedian seemed to stay boring, only a couple of people snickered at most. The Miller Sisters were better to watch. After an hour the show got canceled due to the incoming wounded.

Everyone jumped into action, the comedian and company got their stuff together and made room for the doctors and nurses, who were running to the wounded for triage, and others made the O.R ready.

The men were brought in one after another, some badly hurt and some not so much.

The soldiers who had come in from the front had been through hell, They were the ones lucky enough not to have died.

The first soldier who came through that door had a bullet hole in his abdomen, an artery almost severed. He would need to have surgery within the hour.

The second had a deep gash on his left leg. Hawkeye made notice of the severity of the wounds.

As everyone rushed around in the OR, there were so many patients that it would be impossible to keep track of all of them but this unit was the best and worked almost perfectly together in times of crisis.

"Doctor!" A voice called out as another soldier came stumbling back to him.

"What happened?" Hawkeye asked immediately, moving aside as the soldier laid down on a stretcher.

"Shot..." was all the man managed before pausing to cough. "...in the stomach."

Hawkeye grimaced and looked the man's wounds over, making note of the injury.

After triage was conducted, the doctors scrubbed up. Chris still felt a bit uneasy about Sidney and Frans leaving and wanted to stay close, so he got ready to sit in the O.R. He got his books and some paper to write a little of his own. He was able to write little pieces now, with more detailed sentences. He also almost finished his latest book, he only needed to do about two pages.

During the O.R, Hawkeye took his quick break at dinner time to eat together with Chris, if his son must follow a more structured and stable routine, then he should set the right example, as much as he could.

A ten-minute dinner together was not much for family time, but he didn't get any more to spare. Chris didn't seem to mind, he just seemed happy with Radar's newest comic book, which the man delivered to the boy an hour earlier.

The O.R session was a difficult one, but it was finally over.

Trapper almost lost a patient so he stayed behind after the session to watch over him.

Chris showed his last finished school, the moment Hawkeye finished his last patient and took his gloves off. If the gloves were off, he was dad, with the gloves on he was the doctor and needed space to work.

Hawkeye was giving his son compliments and encouragement while walking back to the Swamp, the child was beaming with pride when he and a tired Hawkeye entered the tent.

Hawkeye walked over to the still. He tried to get a drink but the still wasn't working.

"Come on," he muttered irritated

He looked and felt around the still for a sign telling him where to find the problem. He touched the hose where the gin should come from, maybe it's just blocked. But the moment he touched it, a big spray of gin hit him in the face.

"Oy!"

he wiped the gin from his eyes, mouth, and cheeks.

"What do you mean by this?" he said to the still, looking around, he saw a shocked Chris who seemed a bit scared.

Chris couldn't and wouldn't have messed with his still.

He heard snickering from the other side of the tent. He looked over at a smirking Frank. The moment Frank noticed Hawkeye was looking at him, he pretended to read.

Great! Practical jokes, I wished the man stayed away from my still though. Hawkeye thought.

Meanwhile in Henry's office. Henry had Radar, call the hospital again.

"You got them!" Henry asked when Radar finally got someone on the telephone.

"Uh, I'm calling for Mrs. Henry Blake. She's pregnant, you know. With a baby." Radar explained "They ringing her room now sir." the teen told Henry

"Boy, can you imagine? Can you imagine? I'm becoming a father for the third time." Henry Blake proclaimed standing proudly.

After Radar's "Oh Yes sir," Henry said "Oh yes sir! Is right"

"They know what causes that now." Radar said smiling.

Henry turned serious again " Why am I so nervous? For gosh sakes, she's got the best obstetrician in town. Marv Handleman.

He could deliver a baby with his eyes shut!"

"That's the only way I'd do it, sir." Radar said before someone finally answered the phone.

"Sir! She's not there anymore!" Radar started but before the nervous man could panic the clerk quickly explained that she had false labor and was sent home again. With the care of Radar, who stirred the colonel safely to his seat, he slumped down, this waiting is going to kill him.

Back at the Swamp, Frank was shaving when Hawkeye entered. The moment the doctor walked through the door he felt a bucket of water fall on him.

He let out a yelp in surprise. Hawkeye looked down at himself and saw that he was soaked, water dripping from his hair!

Sighing he looked at an amused Frank who went on shaving.

Glaring at the man he heard a struggling breath behind him, he looked around and saw little Chris with a full-blown panic attack.

Chris must've been startled by his yelp.

The little boy was clutching his t-shirt tightly as he fought to get air back into his lungs. Hawkeye sighed tiredly as he knelt and tried to talk to him. "It's okay! it was just a prank, it's only water! See?" he whispered gently.

It didn't seem to help much as the little boy started gasping as if his life depended on it. Hawkeye watched with concern and placed a hand on his back and started rubbing slow circles.

'What am I going to do with you?' he thought exasperatedly. It broke his heart to see Chris like this. Every little unexpected thing could set him off. But they will work on it.

He took the boy in his arms, using his hand on the boy's neck to help with the breathing exercise they had.

His eyes never left him.

"Come on kiddo, take deep breaths." The boy wheezed in and out in between gasps. "Just breath, you're almost there". He said softly. As he spoke the boy seemed to calm down slightly.

Finally, Chris got hold of his breath enough for normal breaths again and he slowly relaxed in Hawkeye's arms.

"I'm not hurt. Look at me," he whispered gently "It's only a prank, and a stupid one as well" he added with a wry smile. He glared at the other doctor who kept shaving and looked very amused.

The boy started sobbing softly, he did that after the first attack as well, maybe that's normal after a panic attack.

It took a couple of minutes for Chris to stop crying, after that they were both soaked.

"Well we're already wet, let's head for the showers" Hawkeye told the boy. Chris still didn't dare to go alone to shower, he needed to check the room before entering every time. He didn't do that with all the rooms though. But there are just more hiding places in the showers.

Entering the shower building, Chris did his little people check and seemed satisfied. After they stripped they entered their shower stall.

Hawkeye gave Chris his soap, the boy couldn't look over the wooden dividers of the stall so he didn't see the soap on his own.

Hawkeye then turned on his shower only to find out that Frank has reworked the plumbing so that the shower in the next stall sprays when he pulls the chain in his stall. Chris jumped at the sudden spray.

Hawkeye tried Chris's shower chain and got his working.

He grinned. "Well, this prank of Franks is better than the last two."

He then just pulled both the chains, they both needed to shower anyway.

As they showered, Radar knocked on the door.

"Yes, Darling?" Hawkeye replied in a singing voice. He was rewarded with a small giggle from the stall next to him.

Radar's head poked through the door as he said.

"Henry's baby is a son! You lost the pool though. But isn't that great, a baby boy!"

Hawkeye got a big grin. "That's amazing, we will be there shortly. I'll bring the booze! I still got a bottle of whiskey that needs to be sacrificed."

Later in Henry's office, Hawkeye and Henry were sitting on the man's desk, sipping from their second glass of whiskey.

Chris was trying to draw some pictures with crayons in Radar's room while Radar walked through the room trying to work. But he was just bad at it, or something.

Chris just wanted the clerk's opinion a lot about which colors to use, so every time the teen walked by, he needed to stop to color something for Chris. Chris loved to draw together like this, Radar felt like a big brother, and he loved the help he was getting from the Clerk.

The only bad thing about working together like this is that Radar reports now had colorful fingerprints all over them. Radar didn't mind, he thought it colored up the boring papers anyway. But he was curious about what HQ thought about it.

Blake was talking a bit tipsy to Hawkeye next to him.

"You've never had any children, have you? I mean except the recently adopted one." he waved dismissively with his hand.

Henry, a man of words! Hawkeye thought amused

"Being single, it never seemed a wise move," he said before taking a sip.

He was learning to be a father in a difficult place with a difficult kid. But he loved every minute of it. The one good thing in this whole war is him finding Chris. In all this death and destruction, he found a little angel. Well a terrified angel, but still the sweetest kid ever. But maybe all the parents thought that of their kids. He didn't know.

"It's too bad. It's a great feeling." Henry announced sadly

"Then why do you sound like a hit-and-run victim?" Hawkeye asked

"Me? *sigh* I couldn't be happier."

"Oh, come on, Henry. There's no disgrace in admitting you're depressed because you can't be with your new baby." Hawkeye said.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah! Since no umbilical cord reaches 20,000 miles." The doctor added. At the sad expression of the Colonel, he raised his glass and said.

"Here's to your new son, Henry."

"Our new sons!"

They clink their glasses together.

"Must be scary having your kid here, but I can't help feeling jealous. Well, let's just hope I meet my son before he gets drafted and sent over here!" A depressed Henry said.

They drank to that.

A couple of minutes after Hawkeye left Henry sat a bit depressed behind his desk. He sighed.

Radar walked into the room. " Would you like a surprise, Sir?" at the grumbling reply of the older man the clerk added.

"Close your eyes."

"Radar, this is not a good day for playing games." but the colonel did what the young man asked after Radar added "Please?"

He couldn't deny the clerk anything if he kept looking with those big puppy eyes.

So he sit back and closed his eyes. Radar told him to hold out his arms before he could look. After Radar told him he could open his eyes he saw that the late teen put a baby in them. He looked at the infant. His heart swelled. He got teary-eyed.

"Your not in any kind of, uh, trouble, are you, kid?" The colonel asked the clerk.

"Ohh no no sir! I just thought since you couldn't get to see your son... His mother works here with the laundry."

The colonel sighed and looked at the young clerk with gratitude.

The baby began crying and his heart started to beat faster.

It was such a beautiful little one. He smiled and rocked the baby back and forth, cooing at it. He wished that he was holding his son, but this helped.

Walking over the compound Hawkeye got an idea to get Frank back, after all his stupid pranks. He tapped Chris and gave a notion to follow him. Together they could do this easily, they just needed some tools.

And some help from people.

Later on in the compound, Hawkeye was talking with nurse Kelly, well more listening to her talking to Chris. The boy couldn't get enough of her stories. Chris seemed to like Kelly and kept asking things, which made the doctor proud.

Hawkeye saw Frank go into the latrines with a newspaper.

"Wait for a second," he told Kelly before he made a notion to Klinger who agreed to help.

Frank had criticized his latest outfit quite harshly, so this was a win-win situation for the man. He jumped on the opportunity to get back at ferret-face.

At Hawkeye's sign, he took his knife and cut the rope connecting to the walls dividing the latrines. He was wearing his checkered blue skirt with a matching blue hat.

After the rope was cut all the walls around the latrines dropped down. Frank, seemed startled behind his newspaper.

People started clapping and cheering. Even Chris grinned, he felt great to help his dad, this was kinda funny. But he was glad it didn't happen to him. So it still made him a bit uneasy.

Later Hawkeye found out, that Trapper's patient did a lot better, after the help of Margaret and Father Mulcahy.

Hawkeye was glad Trapper finally took some rest, the man worried about his friend sometimes, but he knew he would do the same if the roles were reversed.

Now he just needed to worry about Chris his bedtime, he had post-up duty ten minutes after he should put the kid to bed. He also promised Trapper to keep him up to date about his patient.

He explained to Chris how important the structured routine was, and what he wanted of the child. He needed steady hours of sleep and Chris was not allowed out of bed, unless for the latrine or if he had a nightmare.

Chris seemed to understand but didn't look happy about it. Hawkeye just hoped his kid listened to him, he threatened the boy yesterday with a swat on his backside if he left the bed, and he didn't want to go through with the threat, but he will.

It's important to keep your word. Sidney also told Hawkeye that he should be as reliable as possible.

Chris needed to sleep at normal hours, and if his son would need a spanking to listen then he will get one. The doctor just hoped he didn't have to deliver a complete spanking, he would hate that.

When that dreaded time came, he got Chris dressed in his blue and white striped pajamas. They had their nightly routine of brushing their teeth, changing clothes, and getting ready for bed. Then Hawkeye told Christopher a bedtime story. He was so cute like this, in his blue pj's and soft hair and sleepy face Hawkeye thought every night.

He tucked the boy in then leaned down and kissed him goodnight on the forehead.

"Goodnight, Christopher," he whispered into his son's soft hair.

Chris smiled at him and whispered "Good night" back as he snuggled deeper into his blankets.

"Remember what I said okay? No wandering around, you will stay in bed. Understood?"

The little boy nodded with an unhappy expression but sighed sleepily as he drifted off to sleep.

Hawkeye was very glad his kid felt safe enough to show his annoyance, but he worried about that as well. His kid got more stubborn as he felt safer.

After making sure Christopher had settled in and was asleep, Hawkeye made his way out of the tent and into post up. He was ten minutes late but Henry didn't mind much, he knew about the new bedtime and the watch plan. The guards circled the Swamp almost every 15 minutes.

It was late evening now, but the sky still held a small pale red glow on the horizon that comes from the setting sun.

It took about ten minutes when Hawkeye left, for Chris to wake up.

He got an uneasy feeling, a feeling he wasn't safe!

The little boy opened his eyes. He was alone. The lights were off and all he could see were the beds and a few other pieces of furniture in the tent.

He felt like something was missing.

Dad! Oh, he recollected what was going on, Hawkeye was needed in post-up. So he wasn't missing or in danger. But the tent looked so empty and dark and he wanted his dad, but he didn't want to disappoint the man either.

The sun had set a while ago and it was almost completely dark outside.

He sneaked away from the tent, he knew how to sneak around. Those people taught him to steal while people slept or when they were keeping the people busy. He wasn't like them, those were bad people. He was afraid to tell his dad about it though, he didn't want Hawkeye to think he was a bad kid.

He knew Hawkeye didn't like stealing, except if you can save lives.

Then always choose for their lives.

But what Chris didn't know was that Hawkeye had a big group of friends helping him keep an eye out for the boy. Especially today!

So when the doctor was doing his rounds, someone let the nurse know, and the nurse let Hawkeye know that his child left the tent.

He sighed irritated, only 20 minutes after I put him to bed. And the kid was already wandering around, probably close.

Well, it's time to find him and put him back to bed. he is probably hiding nearby. Hawkeye thought while walking outside, he was wearing his doctor's clothes.

he crossed his arms and said loud and clear said

"Christopher!"

Chris his eyes went wide. His hand flew a second too late to his mouth to stifle the sound that escaped. How did Hawkeye know he was here? He was hidden! and didn't even look through the window yet!

Hawkeye heard a surprised gasp next to the building in the shadows, when he looked closer he saw his kid hidden in the shadows.

"Come here!"

Oh no! his dad looks so mad. He felt like crying again. The young boy hurried to the man's side. His heart is heavy as he stared up at the angry man in front of him. Hawkeye looked very disappointed.

Hawkeye reached out and grabbed the boy by his upper arm and looked the boy in the eyes. Chris looked like he wanted to cry.

"Young man! What did I tell you would happen if I caught you out of bed?" Hawkeye demanded firmly.

Chris felt his face flush at his father's harsh voice, did he have to say it? Out loud! He could feel tears springing into his eyes.

In the light of the O.R shining through the small square door window, Hawkeye saw his son turn bright red. Good! Embarrassment was half the punishment, The doctor thought.

He remembered that from his childhood, the shame of a stern talking too, often was worse than a spanking.

He felt his irritation rise as he saw the boy shake his head.

He turned the boy around towards the Swamp. " I do expect an answer! You can think about it while we're walking to the swamp"

Chris sniffled, he tried to fight his upcoming tears but failed. Hawkeye seemed so disappointed, and he didn't want a smack! and he didn't want to talk about getting one.

"I'm s-sorry" Christopher whispered.

"Your gonna be! if you keep this up!" Hawkeye told his son sternly. He felt a bit disappointed, he explained everything about why he needed to sleep right now, and Chris seemed to understand. He hoped Chris trusted him more by now, but he still needed to work on it more.

Hawkeye heard the little boy sobbing softly and sighed. He hated to do this, his kid was so sensitive. But he needed to.

Entering the Swamp Hawkeye stirred Chris to the bed and turned to face him. He looked the boy in his eyes.

"Well? What did I tell you would happen if I caught you out of bed?"

Chris wiped his nose on his sleeve before looking up at Hawkeye.

With tears in his eyes and a burning face he answered.

"A-a an s-smack on my behind?" The boy murmured very embarrassedly.

"Ohh so you do remember? Then why are you out of bed? "

More tears kept falling, Christ felt terrible, he just thought Hawkeye wouldn't notice him standing in the shadows, he thought that he was careful getting out of the Swamp.

"I missed you and I was scared!" The small boy whispered.

Hawkeye felt a rush of affection for his kid but forced himself to stay strict.

"I missed you too, but you need to sleep! On the hours we agreed on." He turned the child slightly to get access to the little pajama-clad bottom. *Smack*

Chris flushed and jumped up a little as he cried harder. It didn't hurt a lot, but he hated that his dad was disappointed enough to do this. And he didn't want to stay in bed! But he also didn't know how Hawkeye knew he was out of bed. That man seems to know everything.

"I warned you! Mister. Now get to bed!" The doctor said sternly.

Christopher scrambled under the covers quickly snuggling into his pillow.

"And don't get out again, understand? I need to work and I can't keep doing this!" His dad said with a serious stern expression.

"Yes sir," Christopher whispered as tears streamed down his face. He let out a sob before burying his head further into the pillow and crying even louder.

" Ohh kiddo, please don't cry, I love you so much, but I need you to listen, I'm trying to keep you safe." His father gently said rubbing his back.

"I...I don't want to be alone!" He sniffled.

Hawkeye's heart broke and he hugged the boy tightly.

"I know Chris, I won't let anything happen to you. You're safe. I promise!"

He felt the boy relax slightly in his arms, the sobbing stopped and now he was sniffling a bit.

Hawkeye kissed the side of the child's head before sitting up.

"Now go to sleep, okay?" The man asked.

"Yes sir," Christopher whispered with a tired sigh.

After Hawkeye left, he tried to obey and sleep, but his head was telling him about everything that could go wrong.

The boy whimpered as tears began falling again. He wanted his dad! But his dad was upset with him right now, and he wouldn't be happy if Chris got out again.

The boy sniffled. Why did I have to ruin things? His dad might never want him around after today, he was very disobedient.

Tears ran down his face as he curled up tightly and buried his head under the pillow. He felt himself begin to panic. He needed to know if Hawkeye was okay! Maybe he just needed to look once and go back. Just to see if he was alright.

The boy left his bed and walked through the door.

It was dark out and he tried to make as little noise as possible.

He quietly padded across the compound until he stood outside the O.R building and peered around the corner and saw that no one was there. Did he dare to look? He wanted to so badly, but what if Hawkeye saw him? What if he got in trouble?

It was nearly two hours later when Hawkeye heard from the guard that his kid was loose again. His irritation flared but he pushed that feeling down. The kid was scared, but he needed to learn not to act on emotion alone and think. Running through the compound at night during wartime because you are scared is not smart.

Chris had just collected all his courage and decided to look through the door window. Just as he was about to peek the O.R door opened, making Chris jump backward quickly before Hawkeye stepped out.

Chris his stomach dropped, His heart sank and his shoulders slumped. Oh boy! the child thought as he got very nervous.

After stepping outside Hawkeye saw his kid with a guilty deer in the headlight look. The boy didn't look like he had a nightmare or he wouldn't look so guilty. Hawkeye took on a stern expression.

"What do you think you're doing?" Hawkeye asked his voice harsh.

"Go back to your bed!"

"But.. I-I. Chris tried.

"No more excuses! Now! get your butt back inside!"

"Yes, Sir." The small boy said.

His face turned red as he turned around and walked back to the Swamp with his dad two steps behind him.

His dad walked in after Chris and closed the door, simply stirring the boy towards his cot. He stopped near the bed and pointed at it, making Chris climb in quickly.

When the boy was under the covers Hawkeye said sternly.

"Turn over!"

He got a confused expression from Chris, so Hawkeye made a rolling-over motion with his fingers and said sternly "On your stomach!"

Chris his face got bright red but did as he was told.

He remembered this! His parents did this also, he knew what was coming.

Hawkeye removed the covers and in a swift motion pulled the small pajama bottoms with the child's underwear down, baring the small buttocks.

Chris gasped and put his hands back to protect his butt. He did not expect that.

"N-no" He whispered Chris gasped, his face was red from embarrassment.

Hawkeye simply took the small hands in one of his own and put them out of the way.

Smack* *Smack* *Smack* He quickly and quite harshly delivered three smacks.

The boy squirmed as he could feel a small burn forming on the back of his rear.

"Ow" Chris whimpered in pain and started crying, his backside felt like it was on fire but was already started to fade.

Hawkeye put the boy's underwear and pajamas back and turned the crying boy to face him.

"I know you're upset... I just need you to listen to me," His Dad said. "You know I love you right?"

Chris nodded silently.

"Please, just go to sleep, don't make me give you a full spanking! I don't want that, and you don't want that. But you need to sleep!" Hawkeye said.

The little boy hiccupped before nodding slowly.

Hawkeye hugged Chris and let the child cry in his embrace. He hated this! But this was necessary and he didn't have time to do this the whole night.

After Chris calmed down. Hawkeye released him and got up.

"I love you" he whispered as he tugged Chris in for the night.

"Sleep well, kiddo. You're safe, I promise you! Please trust me on this okay? "

He stayed till the boy was sound asleep before He was glad it was a quiet night, he only had a couple of wounded and a great nurse with them.

The doctor was thinking to himself about his son, as he walked back to the post-up.

How to help him overcome these fears. This was not easy to do, but Hawkeye knew the boy would need lots of affection from him and way more structure than he was used to.

But he will adjust for his kid. He would do everything in his power to make sure that Christopher never suffered like he once had. They eat together every day at the same time, except during the O.R then it would fluctuate by a few minutes.

He hoped his son would stay put this time, he didn't want to deliver any more pain. He was dead tired and he still needed to work for several hours.

After his shift, a tired Hawkeye was immensely glad Chris stayed in bed the rest of the night.

Entering the tent he saw his kid snuggled asleep on his cot with Hawkeye's unwashed t-shirt. He looked so peaceful, even with his face buried under blankets and his mouth slightly open.

A small smile formed on Hawkey's lips as he approached the bed. Why didn't he think of that? Giving the boy something that smells like him.

He was very proud though, the boy stayed in bed the rest of the night, Hawkeye hoped tomorrow night would be better than today. He sighed tiredly and laid down on Chris his cot.

The boy's eyes snapped open startled.

"Hey, buddy! How are you doing?" Did Hawkeye whisper, smiling at the boy?

Chris calmed down and gave him a very sleepy grin and pulled himself closer to Hawkey, just enough to touch him, as if he wanted to check if the man was still here.

They both fell asleep soon after.
