It took a while to get Sidney on the phone, Chris was sitting on Radar's bed, he still had red eyes from crying and sniffled. He hated getting spanked! It was not fair! His bottom still hurt, not a lot, he had to admit, but he still felt a slight sting.
Hawkeye had given him a towel earlier with some crushed ice for his face, the swelling above his eye was a bit purple but his dad said it will be fine, it just needs time to heal.
Radar was trying to cheer Chris up by introducing his teddy bear to Chris' rabbit.
"Did you decide on a name? I usually don't tell people my bear's name, so I understand you want to keep it a secret!" Radar explained
Chris smiled a little and said "Wally, his name it's Wally. I wanted to call him after you! But having his name would be better!"
" I think Wally suits him better too! It's a sweet name for a bunny!"
Chris giggled softly and said, "yeah, he likes his name."
He took a deep breath and looked a bit sad for a moment before he stood up and went back to Hawkeye.
He missed his parents, he wanted to show them Wally and tell them about the people here. Tell them about the friends he made and the work he did. He just wanted to see them so badly! Tears welled up again as he stood next to Hawkeye. He pulled the man's bathrobe softly, getting his dad's attention. He tried hard not to cry but it was hard. He just felt horrible.
Hawkeye pulled him close and handed the phone to Radar who kept trying to get Sidney. Hawkeye took the ice bag from the boy and kept it on his face while rubbing his back.
"Shh, kiddo...it's okay, it'll be alright."
He snuggled close, sighed, and cried softly.
Chris did that sometimes, just randomly getting sad. Sidney had explained to the man that's normal for a child who lost his parents. Just offer him comfort, and if he talks about them, he should encourage him to talk about them by asking questions.
He didn't want to push it through, Chris was still grieving after all, and he would need some time, but if he did get too upset, he would always be there.
The only person who could help Chris out was himself. It wasn't healthy for him to keep bottling things up, so his crying was a good thing. He knew it was probably going to take some time but eventually, he'll open up to them.
After a couple of minutes, Chris stopped crying, but he still stayed snuggled close. Radar, who took over the phone when Chris got sad, finally got the call through to Sidney and gave the phone to Hawkeye.
He put the ice bag on the desk and took the phone.
"Hey! Sidney? Yeah. It's Hawkeye " The doctor started while adjusting Chris so the boy could lean into him.
He started explaining to the psychiatrist what happened, starting with the first attempt to the last. "He jumped out of a flying chopper, Sidney! Yes!.. A FLYING chopper! "
Chris groaned, his dad still seemed mad about it, he hid his face against the man.
"Yes, he's hurt! His hands were torn open and he hit his face on the speaker! Yes. I'm calm Sidney. I'm just upset. Which I believe to be normal if your kid jumps out of a flying plane. Isn't it? "
The Doctor sighed and brushed his hair out of his face tiredly.
" Yes, I punished him, what did you think! He just got a firm spanking!"
Chris got bright red, why did they always talk about that like it's nothing! It's embarrassing! He pulled his dad's bathrobe and shook his head a little. He didn't want Sidney to know! He liked the man and didn't want him to know he was a bad kid sometimes. His eyes got glossy again, it's not fair.
"Hush Chris," Hawkeye said gently brushing his hand over the boy's head.
"Yeah, he's fine Sidney! I didn't kill the boy, Ohh, he doesn't need my help with that. He does a great job of that on his own. He's almost getting himself killed daily.
Chris huffed.
Hawkeye explained every detail of the attempt that failed. He explained about Chris opening locks, and that Chris didn't want to talk about it.
Chris also didn't appreciate it and gave his dad an annoyed look. Hawkeye raised his eyebrow till that look quickly disappeared.
They stayed on the phone for almost an hour, Sidney said he would talk to the army and try to find a solution. But if the child harmed himself trying to stay then it would be maybe better if he stayed.
Self-harm is a serious problem, and Chris jumping out of a flying plane would be considered self-harm.
Hawkeye had very mixed emotions about that, keeping Chris safe was proving difficult and Hawkeye was scared to death to lose him. Maybe he needed to be more strict but he just didn't want to, maybe if Chris stayed he would listen better after a while.
Hawkeye needed to know his kid listened and stayed put if Hawkeye needed that from him. His thinking got interrupted by Radar who mumbled "choppers!" before running off.
"I want you to work on your English, we'll figure out how we will do your education further after this, if you can't go to the states, then we should fix your school work here." Hawkeye told his son.
Chris looked up a bit sad at his dad. "B-But I wanted to r-read my book." He dared to say as they walked quickly to the Swamp.
"No! You do your schoolwork right now, you haven't been working on them for a couple of days. "
Chris sighed but collected his work. He didn't want to disobey. The first chopper arrived as Chris picked up his pencils. His dad went straight away to them for triage.
During the O.R session, Hawkeye asked. " Are all these guys Koreans?"
"If you'd read the surgery schedule, you'd know they were!
The village of Tai-Dong was shelled this morning."
Margaret explained. She was Frank's assisting nurse for the day.
"Well, they were probably asking for it." Hawkeye replied sarcastically
"washing their babies, having breakfast, committing other acts of aggression."
Trapper joined the conversation and added "hey, I was in Tai-Dong last week. There's no enemy artillery anywhere near that place."
" I insist on quiet in here." Frank demands
"Will someone please turn the war down for Frank?" Trapper said, keeping his eyes on his patient.
Hawkeye had just removed a piece of shrapnel and was looking at the piece with confusion.
"Hey, Trap. Look at this."
It looked like an American piece and that was not supposed to be.
During the O.R, Hawkeye quickly ate dinner with Chris and helped him with reading and his work before he had to go back.
He was exhausted from today, having a long day of surgery and this morning with Chris. He felt drained. Chris behaved perfectly now, and for that Hawkeye was grateful.
After the O.R session, Hawkeye took a long shower, including Chris who still didn't dare to shower alone.
After the water turned cold, Hawkeye wrapped himself in a towel and helped Chris dry off before he put on some clothes.
He was wearing his army green shirt. He hated the green by now, but he didn't have the time or the interest right now to care. Chris wore normal jeans and a striped t-shirt.
Chris showed Hawkeye his work timidly and said.
" I finished these chapters! C-c-can I read some comics now?"
He looked so hopeful and Hawkeye felt his heart melt. He was so cute and innocent.
"P-please?" Chris tried again and tugged at Hawkeye's clothes.
" Sure thing kiddo! but I need to do stuff at Henry's office, so you can take your stuff to Radar or you can stay here." Hawkeye smiled and ruffled Chris's hair.
The boy beamed and dashed to his cot and suitcase. When he came back he had two comic books in his hand. One was a comic book called 'Spiderman' while the other was a graphic novel called 'Superman'
Yes! Reading with Radar! Chris thought happily, he didn't have books that Radar hadn't read yet but Radar liked reading and talking about older comics as well.
Entering Radar's room Chris noticed the clerk wasn't there. He looked sadly at his dad, but Hawkeye just shrugged and said " He probably has work to do. Are you okay staying here? I just need to look at the maps for a bit."
Chris nodded, he felt sad about it, but he would be okay. He sat down on Radar's bed and plugged Radar's teddy bear from under the man's pillow, he would read to Radar bear, and maybe his bear would tell Radar. He smiled. That's silly but funny, he thought. But maybe he could write a little story about that.
He stood up carrying the bear with him and went over to the desk to get some paper.
He wrote it down.
——————————
You know that you have a teddy bear.
You know he's here when we wake up.
So you know that if you go out with me all day and play, your bear is missing you. He told me so. He seemed sad, so I told him a story. He really seems to like it because today he told me that he told you the story while you were sleeping and you had to smile.
——————————
Chris smiled to himself, it wasn't much but he had fun doing it. He gave the paper to the bear and put them both back under the pillow.
He wanted to go out and look for the clerk but he didn't dare to ask if that was allowed and he definitely didn't go without asking. His spanking from this morning was still clear on his mind.
Meanwhile, in Henry's office, Hawkeye looked over the maps and tried to explain to Henry that the only people near Tai-Dong were their own. Meaning the America Army bombed that village.
" It's not them! It's us, the good guys! We clobbered 'em." Hawkeye felt so angry he wanted to tear something up.
He could hear the sound of soft giggles coming from the room next door at least Chris was having fun. He took a deep breath.
"Oops" Henry replied
"At least" Hawkeye paced back and forth around his desk, he felt like a trapped animal, like an animal that was just waiting to be shot. "Now you wanna dig out the "oops" forms and tell the whole class about it?"
Hawkeye called Radar but was startled as the clerk already stood next to him. "Sir?"
"Instant corporal," Hawkeye said with a grin. "You wanna get me the forms.."
"Hold it!" Henry interrupted, he started to explain that they first needed proof and that this was a serious charge. But Hawkeye was not going to let this go, they would get their proof.
" Get me the forms, will ya?" He asked the clerk again.
"What forms I'm I getting?" A confused Radar asked in general.
Henry replied, "The ones he wants!"
"Ohh that Tai-Dong thing." Reader said walking back out.
Only then did he notice Chris sitting on his bed completely immersed in his comic. The child didn't even notice Radar, but it was a good issue Chris was reading so the man understood. He would ask if he could borrow that one, he didn't think Chris would mind.
Trapper barged into Henry's office and told Hawkeye he had the shrapnel fragments looked over and they are definitely American. Now they had a whole bag with proof.
"Hawkeye here you go" Radar handed the doctor the forms he asked for. Hawkeye explained that they are trying to get the army to take responsibility for the shelling.
"Are you guys making this report together? Radar asked
"Why not" Trapper replied
"Boy! you sure got guts, sirs!" Radar said
"Well we are doctors"
Radar laughed "No I mean you're the first officers I ever saw. Who would stick to their principles no matter what."
Hawkeye let Chris know they were heading back to the Swamp. The child got his books and stood up from Radar's bed.
"Well except for that colonel" Radar continued
"Who reported the P.X kickbacks."
Trapper and Hawkeye turned toward the clerk.
"Who reported the P.X kickbacks?"
"What Colonel?"
"You know!" Radar explained "Private Johnson"
The two doctors looked at each other and shrugged. They didn't care about army rank.
It was bedtime and Chris was yawning widely.
"You're tired?" asked Hawkeye as they walked towards their tent.
Chris shrugged, he didn't want to admit it but he rubbed his eyes. They were so heavy! He was so tired and it had been a long day already. The sun had set while they were gone but it was still light enough to see around them as they walked
Hawkeye contained some water in his army helmet to serve as a water bowl while they brushed their teeth together.
He looked at Christopher who was brushing his teeth quietly next to him. He looked so young like this, the first time brushing his teeth, Chris hated the taste of the toothpaste but he got used to it in no time. It had probably been a while and he just had to get used to it again.
After brushing, Chris got into his sleeping clothes. His child had his own wardrobe by now.
He checked the dressings of Chris's hands. They looked okay, it was clean and stopped bleeding. He checked closely again for splinters and dirt pieces but couldn't find any. With a smile, he wrapped them again gently with clean gauze. He wrapped the wounded area lightly, rather than tightly. Now he just needs to make sure the wounds will not get infected in this place. His head looked better also, he still had a purple spot above his eye but the swelling was gone.
Hawkeye was just thinking about a story to tell Chris when he got interrupted.
"So!" Trapper said, shaking Hawkeye from his thinking.
"What did Sidney say? You know! About your kamikaze kid?"
Hawkeye gave him a look that said NOT funny! Trapper just shrugged
"Sidney said that he considered that as self-harm and that he would ask his child psychologist colleagues about this, but he thinks Chris should stay here a while. He would let me know." Hawkeye explained to Trapper.
"I agree with him." Trapper said but at Hawkeye's slightly hurt look he added "I'm sorry,"
"Don't apologize," said Hawkeye. "We both want Chris to get better. I just hoped to do it in a safe place! I'm glad he's staying though!"
"Yeah," Trapper agreed, looking at the top of the tent from his cot."
Chris sighed, he hoped his dad wasn't still mad about it.
But Hawkeye just kissed the boy on his forehead.
"Make place!" The man said laughing before he pushed Chris playfully to make space for him to lay next to him, ready to tell a bedtime story.
The child giggled, they did this most nights when the doctor was free of work.
Hawkeye even pretends not to see Chris and jumps on him, softly of course. He wanted Chris to play and not to get a panic attack.
Chris snickered to himself as he crawled under the covers and curled up next to the man. He closed his eyes waiting for the words that would start the story. He knew this was going to be fun.
"Now! where do I begin?" The man asked, looking around the large tent. "Once upon a time in the land of the Great West…."
Christopher didn't even remember falling asleep.
When Radar went to sleep that night he was surprised to find a little note with his Teddy bear. He smiled, must've been Chris. This was not the first time he did this. It was sweet, he thought before he put his teddy next to him under the covers and fell asleep.
The next morning Chris was woken up by Radar entering the Swamp. He yawned and rubbed his eyes. The clerk smiled at Chris and gave a little wave. Chris chuckled and waved back.
Hawkeye didn't seem pleased about the awakening and grumbled at the clerk.
"Radar! Can't you find the other 6 dwarfs to bother!"
"Mail call, sir! But I guess the dwarfs must've hidden them. Too bad! Huh! One of your letters looked very official!" Radar replied, giving Trapper his mail.
Chris giggled. "No! Radar. I'm sorry! No more height jokes! Okay," Hawkeye tried.
"yeah Okay, but you better mean it!"
He handed Hawkeye his mail.
While opening his mail Hawkeye gasped! He was holding the proof of officially adopting Chris. It was completely final. Chris was his son!
"Yes! " Hawkeye said before grabbing Chris from his bed and lifting him. Chris gave a startled yelp making Hawkeye laugh.
"I have a son, it's official!" he hugged Chris tight and kissed his forehead.
Chris laughed happily.
After breakfast, the doctors headed to the Swamp to gather all the evidence and make a rapport. Hawkeye wants that the army take responsibility for this bombing and he wanted compensation for the people. They had shrapnel and X-rays, with two doctors who worked on the wounded. They had enough to make a good case.
They tried to ask Frank to join in but he flatly refuses. He told them that the army does not like people who rock the boat.
They sent the report, and the army told them someone was on his way to investigate.
Which would be the next day when Hawkeye was working in post-op. The man introduced himself as Major Stoner. After introduction Hawkeye showed the man all the proof they had and of course, he showed the wounded. He told him everything and gave the man the medical reports as well.
Chris stayed close to Hawkeye, he didn't know this new man, and it made him nervous. He trailed Hawkeye and never stood further than a step apart. Hawkeye changed the wrapping on his hands this morning and said they were already healing.
"What's his deal? Why do you have a kid here?" Stoner asked as he put his hand on Chris' shoulder.
Chris his eyes got big and full of panic as his breathing started to go faster.
The small boy felt his fear rise. He didn't like this, this man was touching him. His mind told him that this man wanted to hurt him, his fear and panic caused his mind to make conclusions from past experiences. He hated it when people made him feel scared. He knew it would happen.
It was happening again, his dad called them panic attacks. He tried to get his emotions under control but it felt like a big storm inside him. a storm of fear, panic, sadness, and evil thoughts. About mean and evil things that could happen and things that did happen.
"Hey! There, little fella…what's wrong?" Stoner tried to reassure the child but Hawkeye took over as he snapped "Hands off" to the Major who let go of the child like he was on fire. Hawkeye knew he shouldn't get mad, the man did nothing wrong. But to control his anger while his kid had a panic attack, proved to be difficult. He collected his kid from the man and stood him in front of him so he could look Chris in the face.
Chris stood there, trembling, looking at his dad, fear in his eyes. He struggled with his breathing. He tried to get his emotions under control but seemed to be failing.
Major Stoner was staring at him in shock. He had never seen a child react like that before. The boy looked terrified.
Chris tried to say something but no words came out. He just wanted to run away. But his dad held him by his biceps and was looking into his eyes. When Hawkeye saw that Chris was losing his battle to the panic attack he turned the child away from Stoner.
"Hey, kiddo. You gotta calm down now okay? You need to take deep breaths. Come on buddy. Come on…"
But the boy couldn't take deep breaths. He started choking, gasping desperately. 'Why can't I breathe!?' He thought, he looked shocked as the suffocation grew worse. 'I don't want to die!'
Suddenly someone grabbed him by his shoulders and shook him gently. "Come on Chris. Breathe with me okay? One breath for every two seconds. Come on." Chris felt himself get pulled into a hug, his face pressed below the doctor's chest. Then he felt the two fingers on the back of his neck, he didn't need to think about it. His dad always did that. So he knew he needed to breathe with the taps.
So at the tap, Chris took a huge gasp of air and released it on the next tap. Slowly Chris regained control over his breathing. He just needed a bit of guidance.
"That's my boy. Good job kiddo" Hawkeye said quietly. "There we go. Keep doing that."
Chris kept doing what his father told him. After a while, the little boy slowly stopped shaking. He could still hear his heart beating in his ears but it wasn't so loud anymore. He breathed normally again.
Then the tiredness, sadness, and embarrassment hit him all at once. He burst into tears. His dad immediately hugged him more tightly.
"Shhh," Hawkeye hushed him and stroked his hair. "You're fine. It's alright." He kept murmuring soothing words until Chris calmed down.
"Is he like some of those special kids or something?" Stoner asked. "Something is wrong with him, right? Shouldn't you keep him away from people if he does that?"
Chris gasped softly before freezing completely still.
Hawkeye gave the man a murderous look before speaking slowly, clearly, and dangerous to the man.
"This is my son! He is completely normal! But yes, this isn't exactly normal because he got panic attacks! Panic attacks caused by a trauma in his past! We all have our struggles. and I am NOT keeping him from people, I just need him to be safe, to be cared for. You have no idea how much he means to me. And as an adult, you should know when to keep your mouth SHUT!"
Stoner looked at Hawkeye then at Christopher who looked from behind the man nervously with big teary eyes.
Hawkeye could see it in his son's eyes, he looked like he wanted to run and hide away from everything. He wasn't supposed to do that, but that was the way his son dealt with his emotions before or after a panic attack. The panic attack happened when he couldn't run.
Stoner promptly apologized and got back to the topic at hand. Decided to just ignore this and move on.
Hawkeye relaxed a bit but already lost his respect for the man.
Hawkeye passes Stoner a container of shrapnel and a full dossier of x-rays and medical reports. Stoner then tells them the evidence "clinches" the case and there may be a commendation for Hawkeye and Trapper.
That night Chris had a terrible nightmare, he dreamed that he was standing alone in the woods, with no one around.
It was cold and wet out and Chris was shivering and scared. Then he saw something move behind him and his fear turned to terror.
His heart began beating faster, and he began trembling.
People were standing there watching between the trees. He didn't know who they were or where they came from but he knew that he shouldn't let them get close to him, but he was surrounded.
He started running but they kept trying to grab him and pull him down to the ground. When he finally tripped over a fallen log, he hit the forest floor and fell into darkness. He felt hands grab him as he started to scream.
Chris was thrashing around under the covers, screaming.
Hawkeye jumped awake as he heard Chris scream, he was next to his son in seconds trying to wake him up.
"Wake up! Chris! You are having a nightmare kiddo!" Said Hawkeye softly looking at Chris's face, which was pale and sweating.
"Papa! Help me! They're here again!!" he startled awake and saw his dad's concerned expression.
"Dad" Chris whispered in a panic before he flung himself around his dad's neck and cried.
"Shh, it's okay kiddo. Shhh." He said rubbing the boy's back while trying to calm him down.
"Papa" sobbed Chris into his dad's shoulder.
"Shhhhh..." murmured Hawkeye gently as he rocked Chris slightly. His heart broke seeing his son scared like this. They sat there for a few minutes with Frank complaining in the background about being awoken in the middle of the night. Trapper shut him up by throwing a shoe at the man's head.
The next day they read in Stars and Stripes that Tai Dong village had been shelled by the enemy. 'The enemy?' Hawkeye is angered, they call Stoner and finally get through. Stoner promises firm action.
"Well?" Trapper asked
Hawkeye turned to him and said. "the major happens to be the Korean distributor for crapola!"
Radar snickered.
"Gentleman, I believe the ball is in our court."
So Hawkeye decides to take matters into his own hands and writes a letter to his father, asking him to ask a senator friend of his to intervene.
A few days later he received a big package full of paperwork from the army. At first, he thought it was about the Tai-Dong case but it turned out to be about Chris.
Going through all the papers Hawkeye learned that the Army was not happy about a child living in a M*A*S*H unit. Sidney told them Chris would be living there till the war is over or till Hawkeye would be sent home. Which was an option the army refused. But because Chris would be a danger to himself being removed from Hawkeye he had to stay near the man. The army didn't want any responsibility for this case and Hawkeye had to sign a lot of documents saying and agreeing that they are not responsible for anything that could happen to the child.
'The nerve!' Hawkeye thought angrily.
It took almost an hour to read and understand it all. And Hawkeye still thought it was meaningless. But he signed anyway. Better to just go along with this. He knew it was a risk keeping Chris here, but Chris was more at risk if they tried to take him away. He still had mixed feelings about it, but he felt relieved as well.
After that, they were having breakfast together at the mess hall. Hawkeye was thinking about Chris, if his son must stay here then he will need schooling. Hawkeye needed to call his dad about it. He needed to homeschool Chris.
Later in the day Hawkeyes had just finished minor surgery and was cleaning up before he got interrupted as Radar was trying to get his attention. Radar advises Hawkeye that "he shouldn't be too certain that that letter didn't end up in a certain whole other place".
Hawkeye was outraged and stormed into Henry's office.
"I didn't do it!" Henry shouted back to Hawkeye, who just came barging in screaming at the man.
"That letter was between me and my father, damn it!" Hawkeye shouted almost into the man's face. He throws Henry's little Korean doll on the man's desk.
Chris stayed in Radar's room, his dad was so mad! He was glad his dad wasn't that mad at him, but it still scared him. He sat on Radar's bed cuddling the bear. He would just wait for people to calm down before entering Henry's office. He sighed and snuggled with the bear and Radar's blanket. His hands still hurt, they are red and still painful but didn't need bandages anymore, most injuries are closed but still sensitive.
Henry picked up his little now broken doll. "Hey! I just got her! Now I've gotta glue the arm." He sounded sad.
"I'll glue you, Henry." Hawkeye started again with an angry speech and wanted to leave this office because this was useless. But before he could leave Henry told him that he better not leave camp.
"Wh-wh- I'm under arrest?" Hawkeye asked, outraged.
"I didn't say that. You're restricted. "
"That means I'm under arrest!"
"Not at all! You're only restricted up to the point where you're, uh, uh. Where you're, um. You're under arrest." Henry finally decided.
Hawkeye started a rampage but Henry cut him off and tries to calm him down, telling him that the army is rebuilding the village with a town hall, shopping mall, temples, and the "first soft ice cream stand in all of East Asia."
Hawkeye says that is all very well, but he also wants the truth to be rebuilt - the army must accept responsibility.
Hawkeye got up to make a call.
"Who are you calling?" Henry asked, taking the phone away from Hawkeye.
"I'm going right over your fly to General Clayton." He took back the phone. "Radar!"
"Wait a minute!" Henry tried but Radar came in and told Hawkeye the General was on his way.
"I told you not to call the General! Now he's on his way!" Henry shouted while smashing his doll in the process.
"And now you broke the other arm," Hawkeye said.
"And now I broke the other arm!" Henry said sadly when he finally noticed the doll in his hand.
Radar passed him the glue.
The general arrived a couple of hours later with apparently a happy attitude. Frank and Margaret watch from a distance and are upset because they think Clayton is here to commend Hawkeye and Trapper.
They all gathered around Henry's desk, got their drinks, and started to explain. Chris went also, but only because he didn't trust the man. He stayed out of the way, but he wanted to keep watch on his dad.
Hawkeye hoped the general's good demeanor would mean the man agreed with them. But that was not the case!
It turns out that Clayton is here to try to get them to back down from their report on the incident.
First, he tries to talk about the things the army will do for the town but the doctors didn't want to hear it.
They got real evidence, shrapnel, X-rays the work!
The general smiled, "what evidence?"
"You got it all, we gave it to stoner!" Trapper said agitatedly.
He then tells them that Stoner has been transferred to Hawaii.
As Hawkeye started his rampage against the man, he got interrupted by the general.
"Hey, even I'm getting pressure from above...you don't want to give the red-white-and-blue a black eye, do you? Let's play ball...Shall we?
And so the General threatens to send them away from the MASH to far more uncomfortable and dangerous positions in a battalion aid station.
Hawkeye had to think about Chris! He wouldn't put his child in danger, no matter what!
Faced with this, and the disappearance of the evidence, Hawkeye and Trapper have no choice but to withdraw sulkily.
Just as the two doctors wanted to leave, Frank and Margaret barged through the door. Frank had his own report and evidence!
Hawkeye and Trapper were thrilled.
"Go, Frank, go!"
"I operated as well and I got medical reports and a bag of American shrapnel," Frank said while showing everything he carried.
The general sighed and finally agreed. "Well even the army has to take its lumps, I guess this is one of those times.
After the general left, the two doctors looked from each other to Margaret and Frank.
"Aren't they something!" Hawkeye said with a big smile and gleaming eyes.
"I love 'em" Trapper voiced with a matching big smile.
"Take her! He's mine!" Hawkeye said before the two doctors advanced toward the other two.
"McIntyre! Get away from me! Stop it!" Margaret managed to say before she got draped over the desk and passionate kissed by the man.
Hawkeye closed in on Frank, who was trying to run away from the doctor with bad intentions.
A day later they read in Stars and Stripes the real story about what happened to the village of Tai-Dong with the army taking full responsibility.
That night when Hawkeye tugged his kid in for bed, he was actually happy. The village got their help. His kid was his and his alone. And apparently, Sidney already thought about homeschooling because Hawkeye got a letter with acceptance from Chris. Hawkeye still got to pay but then Chris will receive all his school equipment.
He will continue from where he was before the kidnapping and will need time to get to the same degree as the rest of the kids his age.
But he will get there! He's a smart kid. Hawkeye thought as he looked at his child with affection.
