It was a dull and gray day in Korea. It seemed like a normal day, but the day already had a rocky start, Chris woke up with a nightmare twice this night. The child had seemed to have more nightmares after Hawkeye's trip to the aid station. Instead of Chris having a nightmare two or one night a week, he had them four times already this week.

And that wasn't the only problem Hawkeye encountered with his son this week. Because apparently, if a lady screamed, Chris would go and hide. The child stood right next to him and was gone the next second.

Hawkeye searched the unit for almost an hour before he found his child, hidden underneath Francis's cot.

It took almost thirty minutes for Chris to calm down, and it took even longer for Hawkeye to get the child to talk about it. It took a lot of trying and he needed to put the short, small answers together, but he managed to find out that Chris learned to hide, when a lady screamed in the brothel he stayed in for a while.

The ladies didn't always encounter nice men, and if a man wasn't nice, they would scream and one of the bodyguards would handle it. But because that didn't always work out the way they wanted, they taught the boy to hide from the scream. Hawkeye was glad they taught him that, to keep him out of harm's way but that was difficult to unlearn.

Hawkeye called Sidney about it, and the psychiatrist called back later after he talked to some of his colleagues, and had some ideas to help.

Chris needed to sleep normal hours, and keep his bedtime routine short, easy, and happy. They could read stories about getting over fears. Or draw pictures of the nightmares and then tear them up and throw them away as a symbolic gesture.

Also, talk about the nightmares during the day, and try to explain them.

Hawkeye knew why Chris had these nightmares, his kid was so afraid of people leaving him, that he kept dreaming about being all alone, in a scary environment. The doctor tried to reassure him during the day and worked on the boy's confidence, but it stayed a struggle.

So the doctor had his child write down his nightmares so they could talk about them. Chris liked writing better than drawing, so the doctor hoped this would also work.

After breakfast, casualties arrived and the personnel immediately got to work. After triage, the doctors started to scrub up and the nurses began preparing the injured for surgery.

While the doctors are in surgery, a giddy Radar comes into the OR, followed by Chris, who looks a bit confused. The boy held a mask in front of his face but Hawkeye could see a bit of sadness in those eyes. It worried him for a second, but he didn't have time to find out as he was working on a difficult bowel.

Radar however looked very happy as he spoke up.

"Colonel?"

"Yo," Henry said as he didn't look up at the clerk, he was busy with both his hands inside a patient.

The happy clerk said.

"Do you know what I found in this morning's mail? You're going home!"

"I'm going home?" The confused colonel repeated, it didn't sink in yet.

Radar happily explained that the colonel was being discharged, he had all his points, and was going home!

Slowly the colonel seemed to understand what the clerk was saying and as his expression turned into relief and disbelief as he got very excited and told everyone in the O.R loudly that he was going home!

People cheered, whistled, and congratulated him, as the colonel tried his best to calm down and keep his focus on the patient he was working on.

Hawkeye immediately understood his son's expression, Chris was a bit sad and confused, so he knew he had to explain a bit, Chris didn't know about the points you have to earn before you get sent home. The doctor just hoped this wouldn't give the boy more nightmares. Chris wasn't very close with Henry but he was still a friend.

Henry felt overjoyed! he would be going home! See his amazing wife again and not to mention the kids! God, he had missed his kids. He even missed his bedwetting little dog. The man sighed happily as he removed a piece of shrapnel from his patient.

After the O.R session, Hawkeye had explained the situation better to Chris and the child seemed a bit upset but not too much. He wasn't crying or panicking but he stayed close to Henry. Not clingy and literally holding on, as he did with Radar but he trailed behind Henry almost everywhere.

Hawkeye tried to explain that he shouldn't bother the man, but Henry didn't mind much.

Chris felt a bit confused, he knew that the people here had other lives back home, but he didn't expect people to go home during their stay here, and it made him sad but also glad for the colonel, who kept talking about home and how happy he was about going there. It must've been an amazing place.

It was a strange mixed feeling, he wasn't used to it. The part of him that was sad wanted to stay very close to the man but the happy side of him wanted to help and celebrate.

Henry was in his office, as Chris handed him a glass of alcohol.

The colonel was grateful but got up and collected the whole bottle from his cabinet, he felt like they had to celebrate.

So he sat there drinking while somewhat still in disbelief. Wow! He was going home. Radar sat next to him with a big smile. Of course, the clerk was sad, but he was also very glad for the colonel. Radar knew how much the man missed his family.

Henry offers a drink to Radar as something of a celebration, but Radar declines, explaining his eyes get red and puffy if he drinks.

Slowly the reality sinks in more, and Henry begins to talk about how he misses his family, particularly his wife Lorraine.

"That woman has the most amazing body," Henry told the clerk as he was staring dreamily into the distance.

Chris looked at the man confused, wasn't everybody, just a body? Or was she like superman?

"36, 24, 34.. Perfect skin, clear, soft, smooth, and warm." He sighed happily. Radar's mouth hung open as he listened.

"And she wears those little short, flimsy nighties."

Radar cleared his throat and nervously said. "I think I will have that drink, sir."

The child looked at Radar, he didn't understand why the man was so nervous all of a sudden. He wanted to hear more, but the colonel seemed to finally notice the boy and stopped talking.

He nervously cleared his throat, as Chris got Radar a drink as well.

The clerk tried to drink his alcohol fast but ended up coughing, which made Henry laugh.

"Hey, you alright, Radar?" he asked as he pats the clerk on his back.

"Yeah, fine. Just… choking." Chris handed him another cup with some water this time and the clerk sipped at it before he smiled at the child gratefully. "Thank you." Chris got a huge smile, he loved to help.

Henry then asked if Radar could arrange for a call back home to Bloomington, Illinois to inform his wife and family.

It took a couple of hours and some planning but Radar managed to get a call through.

Chris was leaning against his dad as he, his dad, Trapper, and Radar watched as the colonel made a phone call to his wife.

The boy looked up at his dad, the man seemed excited about this, but Chris didn't understand why, he wanted to ask, but Henry finally got his wife on the line.

"Honey... Aw, please don't do that! Honey, please..." Henry said into the phone.

Hawkeye had one arm around his kid and held him a bit tighter as he asked. "Is she crying?"

Henry put his hand on the receiver so his wife wouldn't hear and said

" No, she wants to re-cover the furniture."

Hawkeye and Radar looked at each other a bit confused while the man continued his call.

Meanwhile, Frank and Margeret seemed cheerful as well, but for a whole different reason, as Henry's departure automatically elevates Frank to the commander, and they eagerly look forward to bringing the camp back under more military discipline.

Chris worked on his math work, he still was a bit behind, but his dad didn't get too mad, it was the only schoolwork where Chris was behind on, and he just needed to get it back on schedule.

He sat in Henry's chair while he watched as Radar and Henry cleaned out his office. He listens to the two talking and it seems as if Radar got a bit emotional after finding a picture of the two of them together, Radar then tells Henry how much he has meant to him.

Chris didn't interfere or bother them, they seemed to want some alone time, but he wished he could help. He still felt sad about the man leaving, but Radar seemed more upset. The child just didn't know how to help his friend.

Radar then gifts Henry an inscribed cartridge, and Henry returns the favor by spontaneously giving Radar a thermometer that once belonged to his father.

The late teen had glossy eyes as he gently took the thermometer from the colonel and felt very grateful, but Radar soon realizes that the thermometer is not oral and the gratefulness faded a little.

That night, Trapper, Radar, Henry, and Hawkeye were drinking at Rosie's bar, Chris was there also but didn't drink any of course.

The whole group sat around the table eating together and talking.

All the adults were a bit drunk already, including Radar who indeed got red puffy eyes, but seemed to be having a lot of fun.

Chris was having a blast with the giggling drunk clerk as he seemed to find everything funny at the moment. The child intended to keep him cheerful, as Radar was so upset earlier. So the boy tried to make the man laugh, telling stupid jokes or silly stories.

The small boy also served them drinks for the first part of the evening but his dad told him to stop, the table was filled with alcohol bottles, so people could get their drinks. Hawkeye seemed serious about it so Chris did as he was told, he was having a great night and didn't want to ruin that by getting his dad angry.

Besides the alcohol, there was also a lot of food. The table was filled with Korean dishes, hot kimchi soup, steamed dumplings, fried rice, grilled pork belly, beef jerky, and a large bowl of noodles.

There was nothing quite as good as the smell of freshly made food after eating army food for so long, so they all ate happily.

At first, Radar seemed to have some trouble with his chopsticks. Chris tried to help him, but the clerk didn't understand and kept giggling and laughing, which in turn made the other adults laugh as well.

It took several hilarious attempts in which Radar threw some rice on the floor and even several dumplings flew through the room, but the clerk finally got the hang of it.

Christopher's bedtime was coming up, but Hawkeye was still deciding on putting him to bed or to let him stay, the steady bedtime was needed to help his nightmares, but Henry was leaving tomorrow and Hawkeye didn't know how Chris would react if he was put away to bed.

"It's almost your bedtime," Hawkeye told the boy. Chris's eyes got big and he shook his head.

No? Hawkeye thought, Did he make a mistake? Hawkeye drunkenly asked the other man around the table about the time and after a couple of tries, he found out it was indeed almost Chris's bedtime.

Because everyone seemed in such a good mood Chris pouted and put on his puppy eyes, as he whispered. "I don't wanna go to bed"

His dad's eyes lit up at the sight of Chris and he laughed. "Oh really?

He kissed his forehead before saying "Alright kiddo. I'll let you stay up, but only for an hour or so! " Chris nodded in understanding and smiled brightly at him.

That hour had gone and passed and Hawkeye completely forgot about it. Chris was slowly falling asleep as he was leaning against his dad and almost fell as his dad got up to get more alcohol, Hawkeye quickly steadied the child and promptly remembered he needed to put Chris to bed.

Being drunk didn't make it easier, but it did make it funnier as the drunk doctor stumbled through the compound. Chris didn't complain, he was dead tired and didn't have any trouble getting asleep.

He crawled under his blankets as his dad tucked him in, He pulled up the blanket and kissed his son's cheek.

"Get some rest," Hawkeye said as he felt a pang of affection for his kid. Chris was so difficult sometimes but also so sweet at the same time.

"Goodnight Dad." The boy said as he yawned wildly.

"Love you, kiddo!"

"Love you too." Came the soft sleepy reply of the child.

It took only fifteen minutes and Hawkeye was already stumbling back, he was glad the Swamp was close to the bar, as the world was spinning around him at the moment.

He got back and was greeted by three drunk happy people, he sat down as gracefully as he could, and because he was feeling sentimental started telling Henry he was just such a good guy. That got the others going as well, they will miss him terribly, and he will miss them.

They share some pleasant memories and reminisce before Blake says he needs to go to the bathroom, on which he got a whole explanation about which tree he needed to use.

Trapper told him he should ignore the first tree and the second tree is number one. Number one is for number two. And number three is for number one.

"Number four is the lady's tree, don't go there!" Hawkeye joined in.

Henry got up with some difficulty but managed to go outside.

After Henry left in search of the tree, the guys drunkenly got up. Radar got two Korean girls ready to hum a melody as they prepared a comedic ceremony in which they do a mock "cashiering" of Henry out of the Army.

Henry came back in and in his drunken state, thought everyone was gone before he realized they were just standing instead of sitting.

Radar started the girls and Hawkeye and Trapper demoted him to Mr. Dr. Henry Blake.

They laughed as they ripped the army buttons from his shirt and almost ripped the whole thing, as they were not being careful.

After that, they gave him a gift. An intoxicated Radar stood next to Henry as he slurred his words,

" Do you know what's in that box!" Henry shook his head.

"A brand new suit!"

Henry gasped as he looked at the box in his hands. "How did you know my size?"

"I traced you when you were asleep, sir." An enthusiastic drunk clerk said, making the two doctors laugh, as Henry looked a bit confused.

The next morning Radar had a big hangover but Frank wouldn't ease up on the man, he was now officially in command and he wanted discipline.

He wanted Radar to blow the bugle, but Radar tried to explain he had a cold sore.

Frank, of course, didn't care and the poor clerk barely managed to blow the bugle as all personnel assembled in the compound.

Hawkeye and Trapper both wore their bathrobes and looked a bit sick. Chris looked a lot healthier but was nervously bouncing a little. He didn't know how to deal with these mixed emotions, so he just got a bit anxious and nervous.

Frank loudly blew his whistle, making the hangover people around him groan and look at him with contempt. It was still early in the morning and Frank had woken everyone with that stupid noise. Hawkeye could feel a headache brewing and just knew Frank was going to make his day miserable.

And Hawkeye was proven right as Frank started to shout.

"MOVE IT! MOVE IT!"

The doctor grumbled as he stood next to the other staff, he hated the army, especially their morning routines.

As Frank passed Pierce he said outraged. "You didn't even shave!"

"Why?" Hawkeye asked, "It's not a school day!"

Frank wanted to say something back but got interrupted as colonel Blake stepped out of his tent, wearing a fresh new tailored suit.

People clapped and cheered before Frank ordered everyone to pay attention in salute, but Henry, in his typical laid-back fashion, tells Frank to "lay off" and to "stuff that whistle someplace".

He then started his goodbyes, he started with Hawkeye and got two kisses on his cheeks. Chris couldn't suppress the small sniff that escaped as he hugged Henry. The colonel patted the boy on his head as he let go and moved over to Trapper.

He thanked Trapper for the suit and clapped the man on his back, he then stood in front of Father Mulcahy, who blessed him.

Next was Klinger, who was wearing a Carmen Miranda-style outfit he made just for the occasion with a big hat with fruit on top.

But he didn't have time to zip up, Henry helped the man gladly, and he zipped up the dress.

His eyes were glossy as Klinger then gives Henry a picture of him in a pink evening gown, which he knew was Henry's favorite.

"Well, so long everyone, and good luck" But before Henry could leave, Hawkeye whispered something to him.

"You think I should?" Henry asked the doctor, Hawkeye just shrugged and said why not!

The man got a grin as walked back and grabbed Margaret and kissed her passionately. Generating another rousing round of applause with catcalls from the onlookers. Henry took his time and after a couple of seconds of kissing Blake then walked toward the chopper pad with Hawkeye, Trapper, Margaret, Frank, Klinger, Father Mulcahy, and Radar while they and the rest of the camp all say their farewells and sing "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow".

The chopper lands with a wounded soldier, which occupies Hawkeye and Trapper. They say their quick goodbyes before tending to the soldier.

As he is about to board the chopper, Henry sees an emotional Radar saluting him. The clerk meant a lot to him, he hated leaving him in this hellhole, but he simply didn't want to stay either.

He runs back to him to return the salute, they look at each other a couple of seconds before Henry tells him, "You behave yourself or I'm gonna come back and kick your butt." He hugs Radar one last time and then boards the chopper, leaving 4077th for the final time.

Later, the three remaining surgeons are in the OR, tending the two wounded. Chris was pretending to read his comic book, but he couldn't concentrate, he felt sad about Henry leaving, it scared him more than he wanted to admit, and he needed to be close to his dad. He was wearing his scrubs and mask, and quietly sat there watching his dad.

They were halfway through surgery when Radar walked in, the clerk didn't look good, he was pale, had his mouth open, and looked like his life lost any meaning.

Trapper told the clerk to put on a mask, but Radar didn't even seem to hear it as he painfully said.

I have a message" He stopped for a second to compose himself as he felt the tears in his eyes.

"Lieutenant Colonel... Henry Blake's plane... *sad sigh* was shot down... over the Sea of Japan... It spun in... There were no survivors."

Radar managed to say the last part quickly, his voice barely audible as he almost lost his battle to the tears.

Sadness filled the O.R, nobody spoke, but Chris's gasp sounded loudly in the room. The boy was a bit embarrassed but he couldn't stop crying, this only made his belief: that people get hurt when they leave, stronger. The small boy walked over to his dad and put his arms around his waist, he hid his face as he sobbed quietly.

Hawkeye didn't say a word, he was shocked and devastated.

Poor Henry, such a good guy, he didn't deserve this, he deserved his family! It wasn't fair, but war never was. The doctor felt a surge of hatred for this war, this wasn't supposed to happen!

His heart broke when he heard how hurt Radar sounded, and he could tell from the way his friend's eyes shone, that he was trying to not cry at hearing the news.

Chris didn't feel any better as the crying boy kept sobbing

"Hey kiddo" the doctor whispered as he gave the boy a semi-hug with his elbow. Chris just tightened his hold but the sobbing slowed down. Hawkeye just didn't know if that was a good sign or a bad one. They stood like this for several minutes.

Everyone was devastating, most eyes shone and Margaret couldn't help the few tears that dropped while several other people made sniffing noises.

Chris sniffed loudly and looked up at his dad, while he wiped some tears from his face mask. Which meant he needed to wash his hands and face again, but his son asked if he could visit Radar.

"Of course, Kiddo, I will collect you later for dinner," Hawkeye said affectionately. Chris nodded and left.

He changed back to his normal clothes and found Radar sitting on his bed, the clerk was holding his teddy bear and staring into nothing. He had puffy red eyes and clearly had been crying.

The small boy walked towards his friend slowly, he wanted a hug from the man but he didn't know if Radar would appreciate it. When Radar didn't react, Chris just went for it and put his arms around Radar's neck and sniffled. The man let out a small startling sound before he noticed it was Chris.

The clerk didn't know if he wanted company right now but as Chris started sobbing, he realized he didn't mind as much. He hugged the small child tighter as he felt his tears starting again. The young boy sniffled into Radar's shirt before turning and sitting down next to the clerk before he snuggled close again.

Radar started talking softly about Henry, about what a great guy he was and the stuff the man thought of him.

"He was like a father to me, you know?" He told the child as the small boy was listening attentively. Radar sighed and didn't wait for any answer-back, as he continued. Chris didn't seem to want to talk, and Radar was glad he had someone to listen to him.

Collecting his son for dinner proved difficult as he only wanted to go if Radar followed as well. Hawkeye was very glad the clerk was always hungry and didn't mind.

That night Chris almost refused to go to bed, as he didn't want to leave Radar behind.

Hawkeye finally got Chris away from the clerk and now they were at the Swamp, he got the child into his pajamas and got him to brush his teeth. But now he had to get him into bed.

"But I don't want to go to bed! Radar is sad." The small boy said he still had red eyes and looked very tired.

Hawkeye put his hand on the boy's head and brushed through his blond hair as he looked him in the eyes and he explained that even though Radar is sad, he should still go to bed!

Chris pouted and whimpered, "But dad."

It almost sounded like a whine and Hawkeye would have laughed at that but he was very exhausted as well. They were doing this for thirty minutes already and Hawkeye was losing his patience with the boy.

"Now, Chris! Don't make me punish you on this day. Please." Chris started sniffing again but obeyed his dad as he crawled under the covers and laid down on his stomach. He kept sobbing quietly into his pillow.

Hawkeye sighed as he sat on the bed and rubbed the boy's back gently, trying to soothe the child.

"It's okay Kiddo, I'm not mad, it's all right," he assured him. "I promise."

Chris looked at his dad sadly, still crying. When the boy saw his dad didn't look angry, he tried again.

"B-b-but can't Radar sleep here tonight?" His voice was barely audible and sounded wet and scratchy from crying.

Hawkeye shook his head softly, a sad smile forming on his lips.

"No, no, buddy. I don't think we can ask that from him, and you need to learn to sleep alone, even if you're upset."

Asking Radar to sleep in the Swamp so that Chris would sleep better, was something Hawkeye didn't want to ask of him, he knew Radar would feel obligated to say yes, and he didn't want to burden his friend.

Chris opened his mouth to say something again, but Hawkeye gave him a quick light tap on his behind. The child immediately closed his mouth and gave his dad a very miserable look.

Hours went by but Chris didn't sleep, he sometimes cried softly and other times he was struggling with his blanket. Or he dropped Wally again, but he didn't sleep. Hawkeye tried everything from telling stories to ignoring the child and even being stern.

Hawkeye didn't know what to do with this situation, he needed his kid to sleep. But he didn't want to punish the child on a day like this.

He and the other doctor were already trying to sleep for over an hour, and the mood didn't get any better as time went on. He was just glad that Frank already moved into Henry's old office.

He sighed deeply, knowing that when it came down to it he would have to discipline Chris. He looked at the clock, it was almost two AM,

"Hey, kiddo", he said gently and put his hand on Chris's forehead.

"Please try to sleep"

Chris only whimpered quietly. His big eyes were filled with tears and his bottom lip trembled, it broke his heart, seeing the little boy like this.

"Oh, Chris," Hawkeye muttered and hugged him carefully,

Chris started to cry softly and tried to hug his dad as much as he could. The man rubbed his back in circles.

The door of the Swamp opened and a nervous clerk with a teddy bear walked in.

Hawkeye felt so relieved he could almost kiss the guy, he refrained himself but got a huge happy grin. The clerk gave a small sad smile back and started to stammer before Hawkeye cut him off by saying.

"Radar, you're the best, you know that!" Radar looked a bit confused but happy with the compliment at the same time.

Hawkeye took one look at the clerk and knew right away that Radar couldn't sleep as well, and was probably a bit embarrassed to admit he wanted company.

"How do you always seem to know when people need you? Chris just won't go to sleep, so please sleep here tonight?" Hawkeye said.

Radar got a big smile on his face. "Thanks, sir! I'd like that, and it doesn't feel right not to sleep next to him if he needs me, I'm sure of it." He said, giving the very relieved Chris a gentle pat on his head.

"But I don't want you to think I'm too much trouble or anything!"

"No trouble at all!" Trapper voiced from his side of the tent "At least he'll be quiet!"

And just like that, Hawkeye saw his child finally start to fall asleep.

Radar made Frank his bed and got in, he pulled the blankets close and gave a sad sigh, and mumbled his good nights but Chris was already asleep. Which made everyone very grateful.

"Thank you Radar" Trapper voiced.

"Guys, I'm sorry Chris is so difficult sometimes," Hawkeye said, knowing well that his kid kept the doctors awake more often than he would've liked.

Trapper told him not to worry about it, but Hawkeye knew it bothered the other man a bit, maybe he should ask Frank for a two-day pass to Tokyo, just him and Chris, giving everyone a couple of days rest, and that way he could cheer up the boy a little.

He sighed tiredly, now that his kid was asleep, all the emotions of this day seemed to barge in as he couldn't suppress some tears falling before he fell asleep as well.
