Life at the 4077th resumed as normal, Chris was having fewer nightmares now that he got a bit closer to BJ, and making friends with the man helped Chris get over the loss of Trapper.

Even with Potter, Chris did great, he and the colonel bonded during a western movie, Hawkeye was trying to flirt and kiss the nurse next to him, while his kid watched the movie and the horses with excitement. He kept whispering questions to the colonel which got some people irritated, meaning only Frank as nobody else seemed to mind. But thankfully Frank didn't dare to comment on the colonel when he answered all the child's questions and also explained a lot about horses. So Chris still dared to ask them.

Potter must have made an impact on the child as the next day Chris included him in his little night patrolling.

Radar was the one finding the boy outside at night. Radar was just walking back to his tent after he checked on Sophie the new horse of the Colonel. They found the wounded animal a couple of days back and Radar gave the animal to Potter for his anniversary. It was very sweet and Potter was thrilled and a bit emotional, while Radar was just glad to be able to take care of her. He checked her every night before he got to bed.

He walked around a dark corner and almost collided with the small child. They both scared each other as Radar screamed "Aahh" as Chris let out more of a high squeak.

"Boy! You startled me! What are you doing?" Radar held his fast-beating chest while he asked the small nervous child.

"I'm s-sorry," Chris told his friend quickly but didn't explain further. He knew he was doing something wrong and if his dad found him, he would be punished but he needed to check on his new friend, Potter.

He liked the man and most of his favorite people slept right now, except Radar who was standing in front of him, and Klinger, who had patrol tonight. But as the most slept he was afraid of them getting hurt, he just needed to check sometimes.

His dad told him that people don't like being watched at night, and that it was very rude to do that. He hoped Radar would still be his friend if he knew, but he couldn't help himself. He kept seeing his friend get hurt, his mind was a very cruel thing sometimes.

Radar told him he should go to bed before he got in trouble. Chris sighed and thanked him for not telling his dad as he quickly left. He didn't go to bed of course as he walked two quick rounds around camp, checking on the nurses, and then on Francis.

He saw Klinger walk by and he quickly hid behind the latrines, but at least Chris knew Klinger was fine.

Next, he went back to the Swamp, BJ and his dad slept peacefully, with nothing weird going on, while Frank was working at post-up.

He made his way back to Potter's tent to try to peek again, he didn't get a good chance to do that earlier.

Hawkeye wasn't working and was fast asleep when Radar woke him, telling him he saw Chris outside, he told the doctor he already told Chris to go to bed, but he just saw him outside again.

Hawkeye sighed as he got up, why couldn't his kid misbehave when he was up and about? Then he would already be awake and walking among the living.

He walked around the compound, toward Potter's tent, as Radar told him he saw Chris heading that way, and saw the small boy in the shadows trying to peek inside the tent.

"Christopher!" Hawkeye said soft but clear. The boy jumped and hit his head on the door before he looked up at his dad with quilty blue eyes. His hand quickly rubbed his head where he hit it.

"Ohh no! " Chris thought, dread filled him as he looked at his dad, Hawkeye stood there with his arms folded and a stern expression.

Hawkeye motions his son closer and Chris scurried to obey. As the child stood in front of his dad, Hawkeye felt Chris's head for good measure and felt a small bump forming, nothing bad. Hawkeye lifted the boy's chin to make eye contact.

"What are you doing?" He asked. Even in the dark, he saw Chris turn red as the child mumbled something like I'm sorry.

Hawkeye took hold of the back of his neck and turned him sideways before he gave a smack on his kid's bottom. He made sure it wasn't too loud or very hard, but Chris still let out a whimpering sound as Hawkeye told him sternly that "I'm sorry" wasn't an answer to his question.

He didn't release his hold as his son timidly explained what he's been doing, which was patrolling again.

Hawkeye sighed as he released his hold. "Bed!" he said, pointing towards the Swamp. He gave the boy a small tap on his rear to get him going.

Inside the Swamp, he tugged the boy in again, and again tried to explain to Chris that people didn't like being watched while they were asleep. He knew his son felt terrible about doing it, but he couldn't seem to stop, especially with new friends. It was fine now that he was a kid, but Hawkeye didn't want Chris thinking this was normal, if he did this when he was an adult he could get in a lot of trouble.

The next night Chris woke up, he looked around sleepy, wiping his eyes with his sleeve, his dad had just come home from his shift and he and BJ were setting up more cots around the Swamp.

"Dad?" The sleepy small voice pulled Hawkeye's attention, the doctor got an affectionate smile as he looked over at his son, Chris yawned wide, and his blond hair was messy and sticking out.

"Hey, Kiddo, " Hawkeye whispered "Sorry, I woke you, but this is necessary, Nurse Cratty is coming over with the orphans, they're gonna stay the night. " Hawkeye explained as he pulled out the cot. He just had 17 hours of surgery and needed this done before the kids arrived.

He hoped Chris would be okay with strange kids sleeping in the Swamp, but he didn't have any other choice than to find it out tonight. He glanced at the boy and Chris seemed a bit confused, so he explained further.

"They are being bombed again, so they need a place to stay, this happened last year as well. " Hawkeye finished fixing the cot and looked over his work, BJ just finished his own as well.

"Can I help?" Chris asked before he again yawned deeply, he only slept for a couple of hours as it was still early.

He understood why the kids were coming over, even though it made him nervous, he knew what it was like being bombed, and he hated it, you couldn't sleep, and it was very scary.

His dad gave him a warm smile before he answered.

"No, but thank you kiddo, you just go back to sleep,"

Hawkeye walked over and gently pushed the boy down and pulled the blankets up. He caressed the child's head. "But I want to help." Chris tried again.

"There's nothing you can do, they will be here soon, and then we need to give them physicals, and they go to bed too" BJ added.

Chris pouted as he again said he wanted to help, but his dad refused.

Chris sighed but stopped complaining before he started to get worried. He didn't know these kids, and what if they are mean? He looked at his dad and asked. "A-a-are they nice?"

"Are you kidding! They are great! You'll like Nurse Cratty, she's very nice and a lot of the kids are very nice too, maybe you could even make friends. " Hawkeye said he noticed Chris stuttered, meaning his kid was getting nervous, so he was telling this as positively as he could.

It would be nice for Chris to have more kids to play with, as there weren't a lot of kids in the neighborhood, most kids had left to safer areas before they could become friends.

"But dad!" Chris whispered, sounding and looking very nervous as he was fidgeting with his blankets.

"What if they don't like me?" Chris asked, looking over at his dad trying not to sound scared.

"Then they're idiots who can't see how wonderful you are," Hawkeye jokes.

Chris released his breath and let out a small giggle.

"No, but seriously, that depends," Hawkeye said, getting serious, He knew for sure his kid was going to be fine, all those kids were just as or even worse traumatized as Chris, so most kids were cautious, and with Chris being that as well, they would be okay.

"Are you gonna be nice to them? "

"I'm always nice!" Chris whispered, looking shocked and a bit insulted, that his dad even asked that.

Hawkeye chuckled, "If you're being nice, and they don't like you, then it's their loss, if they don't like you because you're mean, then it's your problem to fix. " Or mine, Hawkeye thought, but Chris was a sweetheart, and almost liked everyone after he got used to them. He couldn't imagine his kid being mean.

Chris seemed to think about it, but he still looked worried, so Hawkeye promised him, it was going to be fine, he would be doing fine, and he shouldn't worry about it.

At that moment Frank burst in, making Chris jump up.

"Oh caramba!" The man snapped, highly irritated.

"Don't tell me we're having two foreigners sleeping in here!"

"Frank, this is their country. We're the ones from out of town." Hawkeye said as he got up and looked irritated at the man.

"Yeah right! Always defending them and insulting us! If you like it so much, why don't you live here? " Frank snapped, as he sat down in his chair.

"I do live here! Frank. " Hawkeye said, 'Frank must be the dumbest guy in Korea at the moment.'

"Hey, that's a citation! '' BJ said, noticing Frank's Purple Heart hanging on his uniform.

"Citation, Gracie?" Hawkeye asked.

"That's a Purple Heart!" BJ said, a bit perplexed.

"What's a Purple Heart?" The small high voice of Chris peeped through the conversation.

Hawkeye wanted to explain and also tell the boy he should be sleeping even though he felt very proud of him for asking without hesitation or fear, but Frank was faster with his nasty comment.

"That's for soldiers who get wounded! Boy, you are stupid! " Frank said as he pulled off his shoes.

Hawkeye saw Chris's hurt expression 'Chris still had a lot of difficulty with asking things and when he bravely does, this doofus messed it up.' He thought annoyed before he turned toward the man and said.

"Frank! First of all, That's simply not true, while you on the other hand are proving to us every day that you're no Einstein. " Frank needed to think about it for a second before he gave Hawkeye a nasty look.

"And second. If you call my kid stupid one more time! I will stuff your socks with leftovers from the mess hall, every single day for as long as I have the pleasure of knowing you! And last but not least, you Frank were never wounded! "

"I most certainly was!" Frank snapped back.

"When?" Bj added curiously.

"During the sniper attack a month ago," Frank replied. "I got a shell fragment in my eye."

"Hold the phone, Central!" Hawkeye howled, as he threw his arms up.

"I'm the one who treated that eye. That was an eggshell fragment!"

Chris huffed, 'And he calls me stupid! Not that I would ever call someone stupid, that's just mean, but Frank can be very mean, I wonder if he got friends back home, would people even like Frank? Or are his friends the same as he is? Wow! That's a scary thought, a room full of Franks.' He thought.

"Nevertheless, it was the result of combat," Franks said smugly as he quickly removed the medal and put it safely back in its box.

"and it's on my service record as "shell fragment"."

"You were breaking open a boiled egg and got nervous," BJ said, outraged, he couldn't believe Frank was being so unfair.

Even Chris got shot, but Hawkeye didn't think about getting a purple heart for the child, he would just hate the medal, every single time he saw the thing he would only see proof his kid got hurt during combat. Proof that he couldn't protect him.

Hawkeye pointed at the citation. "Those are for kids who get shot up."

Frank jumped up from the chair. "I could have lost my eye!"

"Oh yeah! There are hundreds of cases of losing an eye from a three-minute egg!" Hawkeye said he was livid but held his temper together, he and BJ slowly cornered Frank.

"Give it back, Frank!" BJ said.

"Not on your Nellie! " Frank snapped.

"Frank, you don't get medals for other people's blood. " Hawkeye took a step closer but got interrupted by Radar who yelled to everybody that Nurse Cratty is here.

They quickly went outside to help. Nurse Cratty arrives in camp with a truckload of young orphans. There were about 20 kids, some sleeping, some wide awake, but they all looked very tired, hungry, and a bit dirty.

Chris lay in bed and sighed. He mentally debated going after them, he wanted to help even though it scared him, he didn't know these people. He didn't have much experience with kids his age, so he was anxious about that as well.

And on top of that, he didn't want to upset his dad, but as he heard people talking when they all came over to help, he listened for a couple of seconds before his curiosity and fear about not being close to his dad, got the best of him as he got up and out of bed.

He tiptoed out of the Swamp and immediately stopped when he saw the truck full of kids. He already felt his hands getting sweaty, and his heart rate going up. He quickly wiped his hands on his PJ pants and quickly went to look for Hawkeye, it was crowded and he heard his dad's voice before he saw him. "Hiya Meg," Hawkeye said to an elderly woman.

Chris sneaked closer, he wanted to be close to his dad, as this was scaring him a lot, but he didn't know if his dad was going to be upset with him for leaving his bed.

"Would you believe they're bombing' us again?" said the strange woman, Chris stopped walking and waited, he didn't know this person and he should be cautious.

"War is no fun if you don't bomb orphans. Hawkeye said as he lifted a child off the truck and handed her over to the next person, all kids were brought to the mess hall for physicals, and some cleaning.

He introduces BJ to the nurse and explains that Trapper went home.

Nurse Meg handed him a child as she welcomed him into Korea. BJ smiled at the small boy in his arms before he carried the child to the mess hall.

Chris stepped a bit closer, his heartbeat was going crazy and he felt very uneasy as he wanted to get closer to his dad.

People were shuffling everywhere and nobody noticed the boy or that was what he thought. He stopped in his tracks when he suddenly felt eyes on him, he looked up and the strange woman was looking straight at him with curiosity.

"Well, he's not one of mine, " Nurse Cratty said, as she put her hands on her hip.

Hawkeye was just scooping up a sleeping child so his back was turned but he knew she probably meant Chris. He felt irritated that his child didn't listen, but with all these new people, Chris could be very scared as well.

"Let me guess, little and blond? Probably looking very nervous and with a guilty expression?"

"You got him down to a fiddle." The nurse said, with some humor behind her stern exterior.

Chris turned bright red, as he fidgeted with the sleeve of his red PJs. 'Please don't be mad,' Chris thought.

"Yeah, he's mine, " Hawkeye said as he turned around and handed the Korean child over to Margeret. She happily carried the child inside.

He saw Chris standing there, and noticed the boy looked terrified. The boy looked at him with big glossy blue eyes and tried to say he was sorry, but no sound came out, which told Hawkeye Chris was indeed very scared.

"Yours? I didn't know you had a kid. "

"Well, I saw you having fun with yours, so I thought I should get one for myself! " Hawkeye said as he motioned Chris closer, the boy obeyed quickly and Hawkeye looked him in the eyes. He asked if he was okay and Chris shook his head a little, the boy trembled and was fidgeting nervously.

"I'll tell you about it later if you are in the mood for a drink after this," Hawkeye said to Meg as he caressed the blond hair briefly and told Chris he could stay close.

Chris sighed relieved, his dad wasn't mad, he looked around nervously at everyone getting the kids inside, except for Frank who didn't want to carry a child inside, he told them he had just washed his hands.

Nurse Cratty tells them she got a highly pregnant woman coming later, as she is visiting her relatives, but she should arrive soon.

Inside the mess hall, the kids got cleaned up a bit and had something to eat. Chris stayed close to his dad and looked around with fear but also curiosity. He slowly started to get used to this, and some kids even smiled at him.

He stood close to his dad while the man was checking the vitals of a Korean boy. The child had a happy smile and seemed about 6 or 7 years old.

Hawkeye was having a blast, he loved working with kids, the boy in front of him kept making silly faces which got Chris giggling every time.

Hawkeye tried to copy the folded tongue the boy was making, but he couldn't succeed, he did however make both kids laugh.

Klinger walked by carrying a small girl who kept calling him Mama-san. He tried to explain, but nothing worked so he just accepted it.

After the kids were checked out, they were brought to bed. Two Korean boys around Chris's age would stay the night with them. One was about a couple of years younger than Chris and the other one was a bit older. Chris still was a bit nervous, but the kids were very friendly, so he calmed down a little.

Chris snuggled close against his dad as Hawkeye argued with BJ about who should tell a bedtime story. He was tired but also excited for tomorrow, he watched his dad and smiled. Most times if his dad put him to bed he would talk about everything back home and stories about grandpa, but that won't work with these kids, they understood a bit of English and wanted a real story.

BJ decided to try and he started the story.

Chris never knew BJ could tell a story this good, he had a soft voice and even did funny voices and a great lion roar!

The kids fall asleep before B.J. finishes, so he stops, but Hawkeye has been hanging on every word and demands he finish.

Chris fell almost asleep listening but, he woke up a little as his dad picked him up gently and carried him to bed. He felt a kiss on his head and drifted off to sleep before Hawkeye could even say good night.

Cratty arrives for a nightcap, worried about the pregnant woman in her care, who has not returned from a family visit in a nearby village.

She doesn't have to wait long before they hear Radar yelling. The pregnant woman had stumbled into camp and was suffering from a gunshot wound, courtesy of a local sniper.

She's rushed into the operating room where BJ and Cratty with the help of Hawkeye perform an emergency C-section to save both mother and child. Thankfully the baby is delivered successfully.

But the intercom let them know more wounded were on their way, so people rushed into action getting everything ready.

It was almost morning already when Hawkeye stumbled into bed dead tired. He was asleep the moment his head touched his pillow.

The next morning Chris woke up and noticed everyone was still asleep except for the youngest Korean boy. Chris looked at him and started to get nervous, the boy looked back with caution and curiosity.

'What do I do!' Chris thought before he took a big breath, as he collected all his courage and quickly waved very awkwardly.

The Korean boy got a huge smile and laughed.

Chris smiled back widely before he got out of bed, first he quickly rushed over to the latrine, he felt a bit nervous leaving Hawkeye alone but ignored the feeling bravely.

As he came back he noticed the other boy was awake as well. He decided to smile nervously before just standing there for a couple of seconds.

He tried to come up with something and thought of his comic books, maybe the boys liked them as well. He nervously got them from his trunk and sat down in the middle of the tent and spread them out on the floor. He made a come-on motion and the boys quickly got the idea. They happily sat down beside him and even thanked him.

For the first minutes, they sat silent but as they got more engrossed with the story they were reading, they started talking a bit. It was more excitingly showing each other how great some pictures were and making the sound effects, but they had fun doing it.

Hawkeye woke by the sound of Chris laughing, his kid just laughed out loud, and that was still a bit rare. He moved around to look and saw his kid having fun, all three of them were having fun. He smiled widely as he felt so proud and so happy at the moment. It still seems strange to him that during this war, such small things can really pull him through, this image right here, his son laughing with other kids, will pull him through many dark days.

Allowing Chris to stay close yesterday must've helped get his nerves under control.

Of course, Frank interrupted the scene by loudly complaining about the noise. His son and the smaller boy flinched, but the older one didn't mind as much. Chris looked worried at his dad but Hawkeye gave him a big smile and told the boys Frank was, in fact, a troll, and laughter will turn him into stone, so they should laugh real hard whenever they see him.

That made BJ laugh out loud and Chris giggle which calmed the other boys as well.

A troll sounds about right, Chris thought, maybe he should add a Frank troll in his story as well, he had a bit of an idea forming but he mostly just wrote down what came to him.

Breakfast was a busy affair, Chris noticed some of the kids hiding away food as well as eating it. That's smart! He wished he would have thought of that when he was with those people as his dad liked to call them. He could have saved himself from days of going hungry, but thinking was difficult back then.

His dad was still tired so he stayed in bed, but Chris wanted to play. He saw BJ and Radar play around outside with a ball and some kids and he wanted to join, he invited his two temporary roommates as best as he could, but thankfully the two understood enough English to understand.

As they neared the ball game, Chris nervously asked if he could join as he awkwardly waved at the other kids, some flinched and got nervous and some smiled.

But Radar and BJ were thrilled with more players, so Chris thought it was alright.

They played for a while when someone kicked the ball past Chris and his older temporary roommate, they rushed after it laughing, trying to steal the ball from one another, the Korean boy was a lot faster as he was taller and a bit older and Chris had to admit defeat. He didn't mind though it was just for fun, his new friend picked up the ball as a wildly complaining Frank just walked around the corner.

Frank stood still as he saw the Korean boy holding the ball before he pointed and yelled "You! What did you do with my Purple Heart?!"

Chris gasped as the boy next to him didn't think, he just dropped the ball and ran. Frank quickly ran after him. The angry doctor ran past and Chris let out a sigh of relief before he got worried about his new friend. He picked up the ball as he saw them running over the compound. Thankfully the boy was faster than Frank but as Frank got closer the boy tried to hide in the showers. So Frank ran in after him and cornered the boy maniacally.

The boy said he didn't have it, but Frank just yelled back that he shouldn't lie and jumped upon the boy. The child was a lot quicker and ducked under the man's arm and instantly out of the door.

Frank wanted to follow but BJ stopped him and showed him where his Purple Heart went. Potter is pinning it to the blanket of the newborn boy.

Frank wasn't happy at all, but as everyone seemed to melt away at the sight of the little newborn, he decided it was a lost case to get his medal back.

Meanwhile, Chris is looking over camp for his new friend, he saw him run out of the showers as BJ stopped Frank but didn't see where he went. He didn't follow the man, as Frank still seemed fuming and not very pleasant to be around.

He searched around for a while, but the boy was nowhere to be found.

Chris sighed, he started to like the boy, they had fun and then Frank ruined it. As he walked around the compound he saw several kids running around playing, but not the one he was searching for.

He did see a small boy sitting on the sideline watching the other kids run around, this boy was a bit younger, probably around 6 and he was missing a big part of his leg.

Chris looked at the ball in his hand, the boy couldn't play with them, he couldn't run around. The child looked miserable about not being able to play, which made Chris very unhappy, and he wanted to help.

He waved at Radar who had to take BJ's place in the game and rolled the ball towards the man. He wasn't a good thrower, sports were not his thing, but he didn't care. Radar took the ball and asked if Chris wanted to join, but Chris shook his head.

He ran back towards the Swamp to get some comics, maybe the young boy liked them. He took Wally and his little bird as well.

Hawkeye stirred and opened his eyes as noticed his son rumbling in his trunk. He slowly emerged pretending to be a vampire waking after a long day. He called Chris over in a fake Transylvania accent which got the boy giggling as he obeyed his dad.

His dad grabbed him around the waist and Chris squeaked as he got pulled in a big hug. Hawkeye tickled the boy gently, Chris wasn't a big fan of that, it still scared him a bit, but as Hawkeye went slow and gently he could laugh with it.

Chris told his dad about Frank and the older boy and told him BJ helped with getting Frank away. He said that he wanted to show his toys to the boy missing a big part of his leg, as there were more kids missing limbs.

He asked if he could give away some of his comics, as some of the books he read a million times and he didn't use at all. And the kids seemed to like them a lot even though they couldn't read English. His dad agreed of course and even seemed very happy that Chris wanted to.

Hawkeye yawned as he mumbled about getting some coffee. Chris didn't need to think about it as he quickly grabbed his dad's mug before Hawkeye could object and went to the mess hall to get coffee.

When he came back his dad thanked him but told him he didn't have to do that. Hawkeye loved that Chris was a sweetheart and wanted to help with handing him his coffee, but he was still afraid the boy did stuff like this because he was trained. Or had the feeling he had to.

He brushed the boy's hair away from the small, affectionate face, Chris got a huge smile and he looked happy. Which made Hawkeye happy as well. So it must be okay if Chris seemed this happy doing it.

Chris searched and found the comics he was looking for and ran out giving a quick "Bye dad! " before the door closed behind him.

Hawkeye chuckled as he got up to face the day. The sound of laughing kids in the background.

Chris found the little boy on the same spot he was earlier, watching the other kids play, he had a small stuffed animal with him. Chris carefully sat down next to him, making the boy look alarmed. Chris smiled shyly and showed him his comics to let him know he just wanted to show them.

The boy gave a shy smile back as he took the comic Chris held out for him.

They couldn't communicate very well, the boy didn't know any English, and Chris only knew some Korean words but that didn't matter at all, soon they were both giggling and laughing.

When the boy showed Chris his stuffed black and white little dog, Chris got a huge grin and showed him Wally.

The boy said something in Korean but Chris didn't understand, but he got the idea as the boy seemed to want to see the little stuffed bunny better. Chris complied and also pulled his little bird from his pocket.

The boy's eyes lit up as he saw the colorful little bird and Chris happily wound it up to let it sing. The small boy was startled at first as the bird started to move, but calmed down again fast. Chris handed the bird to him, getting Wally back while the boy looked at the bird like it was the prettiest thing he'd ever seen. Which made Chris happy as well.

He saw that his temporary roommate found his way back and joined Radar in their ball game. Klinger had stopped playing around a while back as he needed to get back to work.

They sat like that for a while before two other kids joined them shyly. Chris handed them some comics because they didn't dare to get them for themselves, which Chris understood, he wouldn't know how to ask that himself either.

Chris and the two other kids read and showed each other the comics they were reading while the little boy was completely indulged by the little bird, as Chris looked at them he felt a bit sad, this boy didn't have toys at all. He didn't plan on giving away his bird, but he didn't even give it a name, nothing felt right, and as he watched the two playing together he felt like even the bird seemed happier. This just felt right, but he would miss his toy.

Hawkeye decided on another cup of coffee and walked around the compound wearing his red bathrobe. Kids playing everywhere he looked, he saw Klinger doing his work but got trailed by two young boys and a small girl calling him Mama-san as she followed him around.

He saw Radar jump after a ball and land on the ground before several kids jumped on the man trying to wrestle the ball away from him.

Radar's clothes looked completely ruined but the man himself seemed to love every second of it. Hawkeye chuckled as he saw the oldest boy who spent the night with them grab the ball and held it up above his head with triumph.

He walked further and saw his son sitting on the ground on the side of the mess hall, reading and laughing together with some kids.

Chris felt eyes on him and looked up to see his dad, he smiled and waved happily making his dad smile in return.

As his dad came close Chris asked about giving away his bird as well, his dad bought it and it only seemed fair to ask.

"Well, you can if you want to," Hawkeye said, but he felt a bit confused, Chris seemed a bit sad about parting with the bird.

"But why do you want to give it away? You seem sad about it."

Chris's explanation only confused the doctor more, "Are you saying, the bird likes someone else better, so you have to give it away? Chris, it's a toy, it can't like someone at all"

Chris looked at him, but couldn't find the words to explain better. It did sound a bit weird when you said it like that, but his feelings said otherwise.

Hawkeye saw the internal debate of his son and sighed before putting his hand on the boy's head. Chris was worrying too much already. "It's your toy and you can decide what you do with it, I just hope you won't regret it. Okay? Kiddo! It's fine. "

Chris sighed and calmed down a bit before he nodded and resumed his reading.

After dinner, it was time for the kids to return to the orphanage. they all hugged the kids goodbye and a lot of people seemed sad about it,

having kids around really lightened up the place.

Chris divided his old comic books among them, and Radar even gave some of his as well. Chris looked at his colorful nameless bird with a pang of sadness, he didn't mind giving it, it felt right and better for bird and boy, but it still made him a bit sad. As the boy with the missing leg got lifted into the truck Chris quickly handed him the bird.

The small boy looked with confusion at Chris before he understood and his eyes got a bit glossy. He then smiled at the blond boy with all the gratitude of his small world. Chris got a huge smile as well, his sadness disappeared at once. This felt definitely right, even the bird seemed to lit up.

But Chris knew he was going to miss them both. It was really nice to have kid friends.

He climbed back out of the truck and stood next to his dad. Hawkeye put his arm around his boy, he felt very proud of Chris. This had to be very scary for the boy, but he faced it bravely and even made friends. It was a bit sad they had to leave so soon, but they needed the space for the patients.

Radar quickly climbed onto the truck again, because one boy had stolen his teddy bear. Radar wasn't mad about it, but of course, he wanted the bear back, it was his friend after all. He gave the boy a quick hug before he climbed out again this time with his bear.

As the truck drove away people stayed watching and waving goodbye.

Hawkeye looked over to his small blond child waving, Chris seemed a bit sad and clingy, but he expected that. He tightened his arm around the boy as he said.

"Did you know I'm very proud of you? "

Chris looked up and smiled happily, his big blue eyes seemed a bit glossy.
