A/N: It's so hard to find the motivation, its been such a struggle so I apologise for a lack of consistency in the updates
It felt oddly like Deja vue but this time no one else was involved apart from her and Leanne and her friend had more than stepped out. Her doctor said nothing about taking a ferry so that was her plan, set up in Calais for a bit until everything settled down. She just had to keep her head down, make herself unknown in a foreign country which shouldn't be too hard and if need be she could just hop back across the English channel for when the baby was ready to be born. Whether it would be as simple as she mapped out would be another story but with Tony away she had the perfect chance to flee so she packed her bags and Leanne met her outside of the flat and helped her load her bags into the back of her car.
"Got your passport?"
"Yes"
"Tickets?"
"Yes, Leanne! Just drive for heavens sakes" she mutters and Leanne rolls her eyes starting up the car "Actually..."
"No, you're not going to see Liam-"
"Please Leanne, I just need to see him to say goodbye," Carla says and Leanne sighs slightly before biting her lip and turning off towards Coronation Street "Thank you"
"No problem" she mutters even if she wasnt entirely happy about it "It's your funeral I suppose"
"Is that meant to be funny?"
"Your priorities aren't straight Carla but I will do this, for you" she rolls her eyes as she pulls up outside Maria and Liam's house, Carla gets out and rings the doorbell, to her surprise a loved up Maria and Liam answer together holding a glass of champagne each "Um...?"
"Hi Carla" Maria grins before planting a kiss on Liam's cheek, he smiles slightly at her "Heard the news?"
"The news?" Carla frowns looking between them before her eyes are glued to Liam
"Yeah...we're renewing our wedding vows!" Maria exclaims and Carla tries her hardest not to flinch at the pain searing through her heart "We would have invited you but Liam explained that you weren't feeling too good"
"Oh right, yeah..." Carla trails off as Liam looks at her "Anyway I just wanted to say I'm going away for a bit, I just need to get away and Leanne's taking me to the airport so I thought I would say goodbye"
"A short holiday?" Maria asks and Carla bites her lip before smiling slightly at Liam, a smile that painted a thousand words
"Yeah, something like that. Anyway I need to go, I'm on a tight schedule" Carla says quietly "I'm glad you're happy, both of you"
"Thank you!" Maria beams wrapping her arms around Liam, the pain in Carla's heart was too much for her to cope with especially the way she had to stop the tears from filling her eyes
"No problem" she whispers quietly before heading to the car, she climbs into it and pulls her belt across her body and as soon as Leanne got in the car she placed her hand on Carla's leg
"A leopard never changes its spots" Leanne murmurs and that hurt Carla the most, every time she thought Liam would change but he wouldnt, it was probably because she still loved him, no, she did love him
"Let's just go, get out of this place"
Her temple was pressed against the coolness of the glass, her thoughts were all consumed with Liam and how he was back with Maria. She genuinely thought this time would be different, more a fool her. Carla scoffed at him supposedly changing, he would never change and Leanne was right, a leopard never changes its spots. Her eyes shut out of tiredness and before she knew it the sun was rising on a new day, a day where she would be alone, a day where it would be just her and her baby from now on and if she was honest she was petrified, scared as hell. As soon as she got on that ferry, she was off, starting her new life away from everything else that had an influence on her current one. It was time to block Liam out, never let him close to her heart again. The sad thing about it was that it would probably end up being all lies, every time she said this to herself when he was involved and it was that bit easier to say when he wasnt physically present. Irony is what it was, a leopard never changes its spots and Carla, when it came down to Liam, never changes hers either.
"I never really speak to you, do I?"
She laughed slightly down at her baby that was nestled inside of her, smiling slightly as her child moved from inside of her she placed a hand atop her bump.
"We're going to do amazing things me and you, just us, no Tony...no Liam, just us. Do you like the sound of that?"
A gently squirm from inside of her confirmed that her baby was listening to her, even if she was unsure that it could.
"It's just me and you now...just us and I think thats the way I want it to be, thats the way it should have been from the start. But we'll be fine, both of us.
Laying in bed was torturous, she couldnt sleep but she needed to not just for her but for her baby. Whenever she closed her eyes she thought about Maria's smug look at how she had snagged Liam, that sounded cheap though. There was an undying adoration between her and her ex-brother-in-law, a fire that burned bright in the pit of her stomach whenever he pictured him. It was like she was a giddy school girl, whenever he entered a room her heart fluttered and she melted so uncharacteristically as well. Getting up she headed to the small balcony, looking out over the small French town she had settled down in. Time was a healer, and she hoped that time would heal the pain she had from being away with Liam so she could return home with her tail between her legs with a new mindset instead of her old one which was Liam, Liam, Liam.
"Leanne?" she picks up her phone and sighs "What's going on?"
"It's Liam" her friend's voice wavers through the phone "He knows"
"Knows what?" Carla laugh echoed through the phone as she made herself some breakfast, she narrowed her eyes at the clock realising how late it actually was "What does he know Leanne?"
"He knows you're doing a runner because the affair is out there"
"How does he know?"
"He wouldnt say, he's asking for your address"
"He can do one, chance after chance I've given the spineless..." she tries not to swear and Leanne could tell she was holding back "And he gave me his pointless words because nothing ever comes of them, it never would and if I find out you've given him my address I will never forgive you"
"I just thought you should know"
"Thanks but it's just me now, me and my baby and I am not letting the likes of Tony or Liam change that, it's too stressful. I have more important things to focus on, bigger responsibilities"
"I understand, take care ok and dont be a stranger" Leanne's voice was barely a whisper and soon enough the call ended with Carla letting out a long sigh
"It's going to be ok, everything is going to be ok and I am not going to let anything happen to you sweetheart" she places her hand across her bump and smiles "Not if my life depends on it"
