This is an unedited story.
Percy's POV
"Piper, stop! Stoppppp! PIPER!" I glance away from my phone and see that Piper has pushed all of my cuticles back towards my skin. Finally!
"Percy, if you want healthy cuticles and nails you need to get rid of all that old skin! It's like how you have to cut your hair every two months! Which by the way, you need a haircut." I roll my eyes and continue to scroll through my Instagram feed.
"I don't see why you need to do my nails all the time. Why don't you get a girl from your school to model their nails huh?"
"They're all a bunch of hoes, they don't need to become sluts because I made their nails look good," Piper huffs as if it's obvious. She pulls out some clear nail polish.
"How would painting their nails make the girls sluts? You paint my nails all the time and I'm not a slut," I re-adjust in my chair, trying to get comfortable. While still holding my hands still so Piper doesn't mess up.
"You're not confident enough to be a slut, Percy. Sluts are so confident, they end up being insecure and I don't think you need to worry about that," Piper continues to slowly paint my nails.
"Why are we using clear nail polish? What was this project on?"
"The project was to show how even simplicity is beautiful. Everyone was doing white polish and beige, but they're all forgetting about how natural nails sometimes just need a little shine to be noticed, that is why I'm going to get the highest grade and be at the top of my class."
You see, Piper goes to an all-girls fine and liberal arts school which happens to be across the street from my prep all-boys school. Whoever decided that the schools should be across from each other is an idiot for sure. No matter how many dorm checks they do they can't stop the students from the two schools from sneaking to the other school. It makes the gossip interesting, to say the least.
They also happen to be very prestigious schools, the people who end up graduating with the highest marks in their classes always end up with lots of scholarships and a chance to start their career early with a high-paying wage. Piper is one of the best cosmetologists, makeup artists, and nail techs in her whole school! Her mom is a model and she sometimes lets Piper handle her look. Piper already has a high reputation in LA and with her being a senior and at the top of her class, she won't need further schooling. She's going to be a star as soon as she graduates. Piper will be wanted for red carpet premiers and even the Oscars. I'm excited to see where she goes with it all.
My dad is the owner of Oceanus Inc. I'm focusing on business classes so I can take over when my dad's ready to retire. I'm on the swim team and the lacrosse team. I first got into sports when my dad told me how important it was to have a good image socially and physically when you're a big company owner, especially when it's an International company like Oceanus. He said sports were a good way to do this and that I might enjoy them as well. He was right. I love swimming and lacrosse. If I didn't have a future as a business owner already, I think I'd try to play professional sports.
"You're being really quiet, you alright Perce?" Piper stops adjusting the light she had set up so she could take pictures of my nails.
"Yeah, I'm good. I was just thinking about how our futures are already lined up for us. Especially for you! You already have Jason's name written across your heart!" Piper smiles fondly when I say Jason's name. She's wearing a tank top and is proudly showing off the beginning of a cursive name. Jason Grace.
She's so lucky to have already met her true love, her soulmate. For some reason, thousands of years ago people started getting names written on different parts of their bodies. After doing years of research they found out the names that were written across your body were the people you loved. The interesting part is, that when you love the person you're meant to be with, or your soulmate, their name is written in really fancy writing right across the left side of your chest. For girls, the writing is higher up, for obvious reasons. The boys get the names a bit lower.
I must have looked downtrodden because Piper's smile turns into a concerned frown. She knows how much I want to fall in love and find my soulmate.
Instead of groaning in frustration like I usually do when I think about this certain topic I try to distract myself.
"Instead of just taking pictures of just my hands on the table you can dress me up and do my hair so you can use my body as a canvas," Piper's smile comes back full force and it makes me smile as well. If there's one thing that will make you happy, it's making others happy.
"I think we're going to go with some 1980s verticle stripes. Maybe white and orange? Percy do you still have those white pants that were kind of like dress pants?"
I roll my eyes, "Piper you literally bought me half of my wardrobe for this type of thing. Or did you forget about my lack of allowance from my dad these past 4 weeks?"
"No need to be sassy Percy. Your closet is a mess! How do you find anything in here?" A Vans beach shirt smacks me in the face as Piper continues to rifle through my closet.
Another shirt flies at my face but I catch this one. It's the shirt she was talking about earlier.
"Are you sure you want this shirt? I'm not that big of a fan when it comes to orange," I start switching shirts.
"This orange will go great with your skin and white makes your tan seem darker. Plus the bright colors really make your clear nails shine. now go stand by your wall so I can adjust the lighting some more," I do as told and stand by the wall.
"You better get some good pictures of just me too, because I haven't posted on my Instagram in 3 months and I want to find my soulmate."
I walk into my dorm. It's been a week since that photoshoot with Piper. She said she definitely thinks she aced it, but the results don't come till later today. Next week is finals week so I sit on my bed and pull out my business management textbook and start studying. It's not like my dad will be mad if I didn't do well in my classes because I'll have experience as an "Intern" before my dad retires, but I don't want him to be disappointed in me.
Alrighty, assets. Basically valuable items mostly cash, land, and buildings. That's easy enough to remember.
"Percy! Why in the name of heaven is your door locked?" I jump a little surprised by Piper's voice.
"So little pricks like you can't get in. Go visit your boyfriend, I'm busy!"
"He just left for his dad's place. He's already started training with his dad so he can take over Olympus airlines. His dad wants to retire early," I groan and roll out of bed to unlock the door.
As soon as I open the door my stomach is met with Piper's fist.
"What the-" I groan in pain and look at Piper questioningly.
"That's what you get for calling me a prick," Piper promptly pushes me out of her way so she can sit at my desk chair.
"So why are you here?" I ask as I walk back toward my bed.
"I came to tell you 3 things. 1st off I completely aced the simplicity nails project and half of the class wants to know your number. 2nd, everyone thinks you should be a hand model. I agree with them but as long as it's only a side job. 3rd I know we usually help each other during finals week, but I can't this week," I stare at Piper.
"What?" I ask? We always help each other during finals week. I always help her with her projects and she helps me with my boredom! We test each other all week. It's our tradition. We even named it national best friend/stress week.
"I know, I know! It's just-" Piper's cut off by her phone ringing. She looks at the contact and gives me an apologetic look. She quickly picks the phone up and mouths mom to me before promptly throwing her hood up over the hat she was wearing which happened to be mine and leaving. She didn't even say goodbye.
I grab my phone from my bed and send Piper a text asking why we couldn't do best friend/stress week. I decide that she'll get back to me when she can and I return to my business management textbook to study.
Piper answers back an hour later with, sorry I'm just too busy.
I stare at the last question on my Business Management test. What is Employee Turnover and how can it affect a company? I look up at the clock and see that I have five minutes left until I have to turn in my test. What does Employee Turnover mean again? Oh yeah! I start writing down everything I know.
Employee turnover is when an employee leaves the company and needs to be replaced. This can be a voluntary leaving like resignation or involuntary such as laying someone off. This is a very natural occurrence in most businesses, especially large companies. Too much employee turnover is not good for any business. It makes it unstable.
I finish my sentence and look at the clock again. 2 minutes left. I flip back to the front of my paper and make sure my name is on it. Happy with how I answered the questions I look around at my peers and stare at the scattered names on their skin. Most names are family members some are friends and some are celebrities.
Besides my parents, my favorite name that's on my body is the Michael Phelps one. It's written on the side of my neck but the name is starting by my jaw and ending by my shoulder. People think it's really cool and I have to agree with them. I love Michel Phelps so much.
The bell rings and I sigh in relief finals week is officially over. I did extremely well considering I didn't have Piper around to help me. I check my phone to see if I have any messages from her, but I don't.
Instead of going straight to my dorm room, I turn the other way towards the dining hall. I'm hungry anyway. When I enter the dining hall I see Jason. Maybe he knows where Piper's been and what she's been doing.
"Yo, Jason! What's up?" I cut in line so I can stand next to him.
"Percy! Hey, nothing much just hoping the cafeteria lady will give me some extra french fries if you know what I mean," Jason hits my arm like he just made the funniest joke ever.
"Ouch bro, lay off the weights next time!"
We fall into a playful banter until we're at the front of the line and getting our food. Jason does in fact get extra fries which is probably because the lunch lady is a complete sucker for blondes.
"I can't believe you actually flirt with the lunch ladies to get extra food," I nudge Jason with my elbow which makes Jason fumble, with his ketchup and squirt, an obscene amount onto his plate.
"Watch it, dude, I'm wearing a white shirt today," I look at Jason's shirt and notice that not only is it white with black dots all over it, it's also a dress shirt with buttons and everything.
"Why are you so dressed up? Does your dad make you wear business attire when you go see him every weekend?" I look at the rest of Jason's clothing and see his shoes.
"You might want to ditch the Nike slides though. Maybe up the class and wear something else," I laugh when Jason gives me an obvious once over.
"Well, at least I'm not wearing a red polo shirt and khakis!" Jason laughs then continues, "We are farmers, bum bum bum bum bum bum bum!" He continues to laugh and I just stick my tongue out at him.
"Rude."
I wait for him to stop laughing and ask him again, "No, seriously why are you all dressed up?"
"I'm taking Piper on a date before I leave to help my dad. And for your information, I do have to wear business attire when I work with my dad. I usually just change in the car," I nod my head as he talks. It makes sense. business attire is just so stuffy sometimes.
"Speaking of Piper, what's she been doing all week? She bailed on our stress week that we always have. Plus she hasn't demanded to facetime me or do my hair or anything!"
Jason just shrugs his shoulders. "All she's told me is that she thinks she aced all of her projects and that she was excited for our date tonight," I nod my head and take a bite out of my burger. Mmm, this is a good burger.
"Cool, have fun on your date tonight!"
Without even asking Jason starts talking about the date he has tonight with Piper. Apparently, they're going to this new Italian restaurant. I tune the rest out and start thinking about all of the places I would take my soulmate. I think about my aunt Hestia's diner. She is the best cook. I'd definitely take her to Hestia's Diner. I have a lot of memories there.
Jason's phone goes off at the same time mine does. I reach for my phone and see that Piper just posted on her Instagram. I open my phone and head to Piper's account.
It's a picture of a blonde girl. I look at the caption to see who it is and why Piper posted a picture of her.
Thanks, _18 for letting me use you as my model this week! #bestfriends
My eyes zero in on the hashtag that says best friends. I'm Piper's best friend. Who even is this girl? I look back up at the picture. The girl's hair is put up in an extravagant bun and her makeup is nothing short of flawless. Her nails are done too. You can tell by the extra shine the clear nail polish gives.
"You alright there Percy? You look like you're going to throw your phone," I look up and see Jason staring at me cautiously.
"Not really," I glance back at my phone and I hate myself, even more, when I have to admit, this Annabeth girl is gorgeous.
"What's wrong?" I look back up at Jason and stare. Didn't he just get the same notification from Piper? I put my phone in front of him and point at the post.
"This is what's wrong Jason," Jason looks at me weirdly.
"It looks like a great picture to me. I think this is the first picture Piper has posted in ages that has a girl model! Her posts are usually of you..." Jason looks up and something changes in his posture.
"Oh, I get it. You're jealous that this girl has the best friend hashtag and all you ever get is hashtag my model is an idiot," Jason starts laughing and I roll my eyes.
"Not true," I fold my arms over my chest and glare at Jason.
"The way your voice went up an octave and the way you're holding yourself says otherwise," Jason points at my arms. I let them fall back to the table
"That's not the only reason. There are multiple reasons and the first one is that she blew me off all week. Our week. We help each other with our final projects and test. Instead, she ignores me and then posts a picture of some girl who apparently is her new best friend and actually compliments her modeling!" I finish my rant and glare at my phone that's still on the table by Jason.
"Well, when you look at it that way it seems pretty rough, but," Jason clicks the back button that makes Piper's whole Instagram page pull up, "if you look at her whole page you see a whole bunch of pictures of you and piper together, just you, just Piper, oh look there's me, and some other family pictures. You're in half of her posts. I think it's okay that she has a post of someone else," I sigh and take my phone back.
"When you say it like that, it makes me seem like a self-absorbed jerk," Jason stays quiet.
I click back on the picture and open up the comments to see what people are saying. A lot of people are saying they like the fresh blood. Lots of people are complimenting Piper's work. I click on the add a comment box and start typing.
I thought I told you to stop posting people who are better looking than me. It's a real hit to where the sun doesn't shine. _18 you did a good job, maybe Piper will need two people for her next project ;)
I click send then pass my phone back over to Jason. He nods his head in approval. He sticks his fist out for a fist bump, "Way to take the high road," I give him a fist bump and say, "The high road sucks. I'm never taking it again."
I glance up when someone knocks on my dorm room door.
"It's open!" I yell. I go back to scrolling through my Instagram feed.
"I don't think I've ever seen your room so clean," I look up and see Piper.
"Don't you have somewhere to be Mclean?" I keep my eyes on my phone but watch in my peripheral vision as Piper takes a seat in my desk chair.
"You don't need to be so salty Jackson. I thought we were good when I saw your comment," I look up from my phone and stare at her.
"Jason was acting like my mom and made me take the high road," I sit up and face Piper.
"So you don't really want to work with my friend on my next project?"
"Don't you mean your new best friend?" I scowl.
"Stop acting like you're second best Jackson, you know you're not," Piper scowls back at me.
"Well, I'm second best to Jason, and I guess that makes sense since he's your soulmate. I thought I had the best friend title because my name is written on your freaking ankle! I don't see Annabeth's name anywhere!" Piper looks down at the ground. I follow her gaze and I see it. Annabeth Chase is written on her other ankle.
"I'm glad you told me you loved your new best friend. I can't wait for my name to scar over. When people ask about it you can tell them you dropped your curling iron!" When it comes to my friends I tend to get emotional. It's no excuse for my watering eyes though. I wipe at them furiously.
"You know I love almost everyone I meet. Someone told me their favorite color once and their name showed up. The system is flawed and you know it. I'm not saying I don't love Annabeth because I do," I watch as a lone tear glides down her cheek and down her chin.
"Don't pull that color story on me," more tears fall and I stop trying to push them away. This is what happens when you get ignored for a week and then dropped like a sack of potatoes.
"I brought up that dam story because that person was you, Percy! Freshman year do you remember? I was sneaking into your school to go see my new boyfriend Jason. We didn't know we were soulmates yet and you caught me in the hallway with a hat and hoodie on. Do you remember what you said to me?" Her glare returns full force as more tears fall.
"I asked you what yo- your favorite color was," I pinch myself. Get yourself together Jackson! Sobbing isn't going to get you anywhere.
"Exactly. I said it was blue and you literally squealed. Squealed like a little girl. You said that it was your favorite color to and tho and behold your name showed up five seconds later on my ankle and you squealed again. It took 7 days for my name to show up, but I didn't care. I had just found my best friend," Piper gets up.
"Don't ever think I'm going to replace you again cause I love that story," Piper walks out the door without another word.
"I'm a petty whore and you know that Piper!" I yell through the closed door.
"Dam straight Jackson!"
Piper posts to her Instagram story later that night, a picture of her and Jason, with words that say My makeup was ruined by this whore Jackson_Percy so ignore my face.
Percy sends her a DM Dam straight I messed up your makeup!
"I was thinking we should go to the beach today. I'll invite some friends from my school and you can grab some of the boys from here," Piper continues to spin in my chair.
"Is Jason with his dad all weekend?" I ask.
"Nah, his dad said he deserved a break from work with how well he did on his finals this last week. It's funny you were balling your eyes out last night and when I told Jason last night he said he expected nothing less from you. Have you cried your eyes out in front of Jason?"
My mind instantly goes to the time we had an airsoft war and he pelted me on my right pectoral, "Of course not! I'm a man!"
Piper scoffs and asks again, "You down though?"
"I'm always down for the beach! I'll start texting some guys," I grab my phone and send a text to a group chat I have called 'THE BOIZ'. Piper and I are getting people together to head to the beach were leaving in an hour. Meet at the girls' school parking lot.
"We're meeting at your school's parking lot in an hour," I tell Piper.
"Ok, I'll see you in an hour," Piper quickly puts a hat on, tucking her hair in it as she leaves.
"Don't be late Jackson!"
I chuckle as I get up to grab my swim trunks. They're black with white palm trees on them. I then grab a surf t-shirt and fall back on my bed. Looks like I have an hour to kill.
"Mclean! How am I gonna find my soulmate if you only invite 3 girls?" I smirk when the girls who aren't Piper roll their eyes.
"By not being a dick. That's how. Also, you're driving because you said that and I'm going to be in charge of the music. Annabeth, Callie you're with me. Percy you can pick someone from your group and Frank can drive the rest of the boys and Hazel down," Piper says. I nod my head after rolling my eyes.
"Fine. And by the way, ladies these fine gentlemen are Leo, the one with the curly hair, Frank, the super tall one, Beckendorf, the extremely good looking one made out of dark chocolate, and William, the one that looks like he was made from the sun," I look at Piper hoping she gets the gist that she should introduce her friends.
"Boys these are the girls, you all know Hazel, the sweet one, this is Annabeth the smart model, and this is Callie the selfless one. I also forgot I'm Piper Mc-" I cut her off, "Oh, I forgot Jason! He'll be meeting us there. He's the gentlemen and this pipsqueaks boyfriend," I pat Piper's head. She hits me in the arm and tosses me her keys.
"I hate you," Piper says. I just laugh and head to Piper's car.
Laying out in the sun after being in the ocean for a couple of hours is the best thing in the world. There's no breeze today and very few clouds in the sky. It's definitely a hot one in southern California today. My nice thoughts on the weather are paused however when the sun goes away and I'm shaded.
"Percy Jackson right?" I open my eyes slowly. Is Annabeth actually talking to me?
"That would be me. What can I do for ya?" I ask while transitioning into a sitting position.
"Oh, nothing," Annabeth sits down next to me and continues, "I just wanted to talk if that's alright," she runs her hand through her hair. Geez, she's gorgeous.
"Yeah that's cool, you don't even need to ask really. You can just start talking," her nails are painted white and the contrast makes her skin absolutely glow in the sunlight.
"I'll keep that in mind for next time. So, I heard about your fight with Piper..." Annabeth adjusts her necklace. It has a certain pendent on it that I can't quite make out.
"Yeah, we did. You don't have to worry or even think about it though. We fight all the time," Please, please, please don't bring up anything about my Instagram comment.
"That's exactly what Piper told me actually. I just wanted to tell you that I could never replace you, you're Piper's true best friend and I totally understand that your comment on Instagram was you just being nice. I'll pretend I never read it," Annabeth starts getting up and I panic. She can't just talk about deeper stuff and not give me the chance to respond. I stand up quickly.
"Hey now, Piper and I worked this out. I'm not jealous anymore and I definitely wasn't just being nice in that comment," I drop my eyes to the sand. Her eyes make me nervous, "you're really pretty and I'd be lucky to model with you. Of course just for Piper's projects and posts," I look back up and see Annaceth smiling.
"Oh, so if Aphrodite wanted us to model together for her you wouldn't do it because it's not Piper?" Good question. Hmmm, would I?
"Piper's my best friend and there's almost nothing I wouldn't drop so I could help her, but I also need to be the best businessman of this dynasty so my dad doesn't kill me. I don't have time to drop everything to help random people," I meet her eyes and can't look away. They're almost as enchanting as they are intimidating.
"Aphrodite is just some random person to you?" Annabeth raises her eyebrows at me.
"I hate to sound conceited and rude, but if you're not special or important to me, you're just some random person," I raise one of my eyebrows.
"Does that make me just some random person?" She takes a step closer to me. Is she challenging me or am I reading this situation wrong?
I take a step forward hoping I'm reading this situation right. I don't want to read the situation wrong and mess things up. She seems like the person who could kill me and never get caught or she could be her own lawyer in court and beat the heck out of my highly paid lawyer.
"I hate to say it, but it does make you just some random person."
"I guess that-"
"Am I interrupting something?" I turn my head and see Callie. I open my mouth to respond but I'm beat to it by Annabeth.
"Of course not! I was just leaving," Annabeth starts walking backward, "See you later... um, I forgot your name. Sorry!" I stare as she turns her back to me and makes her way to the ocean.
"How rude of her to forget your name," Callie says.
"Not really," I say, still staring at Annabeth's back, "With the right context it was an exceptional burn," I turn my body and face Callie. Why do all of Piper's friends have to be gorgeous?
"Well, then she should know her place. She knows who you are doesn't she?" Callies's eyes are wide like she can't believe someone would have the audacity to forget my name, joke or not.
"I thought she made it clear that she didn't know who I was when she said she couldn't remember my name," I say matter of factly.
"I guess it doesn't matter then. I didn't just come over here to point out Annabeth's awful manners I was wondering if you would want to go on a date sometime soon?"
"Why not," I say, shrugging my shoulders.
"Awesome! I've been wanting to go on another date with you since the last one we had. Just let me know when you're free," I nod my head and give her a thumbs up.
Ok, I'll see you then," Callie smiles and walks away from me. Holy cow Callie wants to go on another date! I better make this one good.
I sit back down to enjoy the sun without interruption. I've known Callie for about a year now and she's always been really forward and we've already gone on a few dates. I would've tried to get with her and find out if she's my soulmate if it weren't for the other guys that always ask her first. I suspect there's an actual waiting list to date Callie.
I jump when my phone vibrates from where it sits under my thigh. A message from my dad? I unlock my phone and click on my messages. Before I can look at what it says my phone vibrates some more and his picture shows up. I press the answer button.
"Hello? This is Percy Jackson speaking," I say the rehearsed line smoothly.
"That's not that bad Perseus, but make sure you keep your voice deep and confident. The people you talk to need to know that you're in charge," I pull the phone away from my ear.
"Yeah, and you need to quiet down a bit so you don't make them lose their ability to hear," I smile. My dad's always been quite a loud person.
"Very well then. Carson will be at your school tomorrow at seven sharp. You will wear formal attire and bring a change of clothes for our evening out. Then Carson will drive you back to school by midnight," Seven sharp, I can remember that I think.
"Alrighty, I'll see you tomorrow then," looks like the girls are getting out of the water. Better finish this call soon.
"Seven sharp Perseus. I will not be having you show up at this meeting late," I wonder what the meeting is about?
"Ok, bye dad," I decided to not ask about it. With the girls coming I don't want my dad to think I'm out partying. Girls are so loud when they talk.
My father ends the call without saying goodbye just like always.
"Percy get off your phone! You can be on it all day tomorrow. Come play some beach volleyball with us," Piper says while hitting my phone out of my hand.
"Watch it, Mclean! If that phone breaks my dad's going to kill me tomorrow in front of the whole company," I pick my phone up and brush the sand off of it. I then place my phone under my t-shirt so it doesn't overheat or get stolen.
"No, you can't go with your dad tomorrow! I was gonna have you and Annabeth do a shoot tomorrow!" I get up and walk with the girls towards the volleyball pit.
"You'll have to reschedule it, Piper. You don't say no to my dad," I say.
"I guess that makes two of us," My head turns to the left and I see that Annabeth was the one to speak.
"What does your dad do Annabeth?" I ask.
"He's a History professor at Stanford," She says looking at the ground.
"What about you Percy? What does your dad do?" She looks back up and I almost trip. How is she so tan already?
"He owns a company. Oceanus Inc. I'm supposed to take over the company when he retires," It's my turn to look at the ground. I hate talking about my dad's company. People start to look at me differently.
"I guess we all have important dads, big whoop. Let's play some ball!" Piper says tossing the volleyball into the air. That's one way to break the ice.
I roll the sleeves up on my button-up shirt. I glance in my mirror and smirk. Looking good Jackson. A black long-sleeved button-up and some gray dress pants. Callie is the kind of girl who's used to big lights and the camera. Her dad is a huge music producer in Los Angeles and Calypso is thinking about becoming a model. There is no way I'm going small for this date. I need to pull out all the stops. Calypso is the kind of girl you want around forever. She's beautiful and has a kind heart.
I grab the flowers I bought off my desk and start heading to the girl's school. I'd love to have Calypso as a soulmate. She could definitely be the end game for me. Our previous dates always went well, the only problem was she might be a little too high-end for me. Of course, that wouldn't be a problem if she were my soulmate.
I drive to the girl's parking lot and stop when I see Callie standing by a lamp post. I get out remembering to grab the flowers. I look up and I smile. Callie is wearing a sleek black dress that goes to mid-thigh. The dress makes Callies tan legs look darker and wow.
"You look beautiful as always," I say while handing her the flowers. I expect her to blush or look down in embarrassment like most girls do when I compliment them, but Callie just smiles and says a small, "Thank you," I nod my head and hold out my hand. Callie takes it and I start chaffering her to the car.
I guess compliments don't affect her much anymore. I mean she's a model after all.
"After I close the door after she gets in I head to my side of the car. I take a deep breath and let it out slowly. You've got this Percy! All you have to do is keep up the talk and show her respect. That's all most girls want. Attention and respect. They also want food, but I already have that covered considering we're going to a fancy restaurant. I then open my door and smile at Callie when I sit down.
"You ready?" I ask while putting the key into the ignition. My Mercedes SL-class hums when I turn the key.
"Yes of course! Where are we going for dinner tonight?" Her excitement makes me smile. At least she's not too high-end to go on a date with me and actually be excited about it.
"We're going to 71Above. Have you ever heard of it?" Callie shakes her head no and I smile. I went through all of her social media to see if she'd ever been there before. Of course, there was the off chance she just didn't post about it, but most people who've been there post about it. My dad is really great friends with the owner so whenever there's something to celebrate my dad will take me and my mom there.
"Tell me all about it," she says while looking out the window.
"Well, it's this very elegant restaurant that's 1000 feet in the air in this really high building here in la. It has this beautiful 360-degree view that makes you reconsider the beauty of la at night," I try to keep my voice from shaking while I speak. if I'm going to impress Callie and eventually make her love me. I need to be suave.
"Sounds very romantic for a fourth date," Callie says. I gulp. Did I make the wrong move by going all out? Calm down, Percy.
"Now that we've broken most of the ice I figured I'd give you the best of what I know," I shrug my shoulders and glance in her direction hoping to catch her reaction.
"That's sweet of you Percy," she smiles at me. I smile and return my focus to the street in front of me so we don't crash. Then I feel her lips brush my cheek.
We make small talk for the rest of the drive and I couldn't have made it any better.
"What are your opinions on 71Above so far?" I ask. I grab my water and take a sip of it.
"Considering we haven't even gotten to the main course yet, I'm pleasantly surprised. You didn't seem like the fancy type," Callie pats her mouth with a napkin and my eyes are drawn to her lips. They're almost as red as a rose. I'm going to kiss those lips tonight. Mark my words.
"I'm usually not, but you deserve the best," I smile in hopes she'll smile back.
"You don't know me well enough to say that Percy," she looks at me intently, "Why did you really take me to this really fancy restaurant?"
Does she have an insecurities radar or something?
"I truly think you deserve the best, but you're right it's not the whole reason. I mean aren't you used to dates like these? Models trying to sweep you off your feet with their success?" I drink some more water as a distraction.
Callie looks at me like she's trying to read a book, but the font is too small, "Did you think I was asking you out on these dates because I thought you were going to be successful?" I stare at her for a few seconds.
"I mean there may have been other reasons and I was hoping you had other reasons than my potential success, but that's what most girls are after," I run my hand through my hair, "Right?" I ask.
"Sure yeah. Some girls are like that, but I asked you out on these dates because you have substance. Most guys in my industry don't have substance," Our waiter comes by and places our main courses in front of us.
"If you're looking for substance, I'm not quite sure I'm your kind of guy," I keep my eyes trained on my food. I'm an idiot! What happened to having confidence and being suave?
"Percy you do have substance! You took the time to plan out a date for me when I'm the one who asked you! You never stare at the places most guys stare and you always compliment me. Even my faults," I look up and see she hasn't touched her food. If we keep talking about this her food is going to get cold.
"What faults Callie?" She's almost flawless, what more can you ask for?
"My eyes are a plain brown color. I've always disliked my eyes and modeling agencies always tell me I was so close to being exactly what they were looking for. On the first date we had, you complimented my eyes before anything else. You're a gentleman and you're funny," I look down again embarrassed.
"Callie if you're not my soulmate I think I'm going to be heartbroken," the words fall out of my mouth without my brain's consent. Callies's eyes widen for a fraction of a second then soften immediately.
"You won't be the only one heartbroken," she says. She finally takes a bite from her food and that's the end of that conversation.
When we pull up to her school and I walk her to where her dorms are I kiss her. She's incredible. Not just at kissing, but with everything. When we pull apart I make sure to tell her so.
"You're incredible," I say while looking into her eyes.
"You're not too bad yourself," she says. I shake my head and smile.
"You wouldn't mind being my girlfriend right?" I ask playfully.
"Whatever floats your boat, Percy," she says before turning around and walking into the dorms. I shake my right fist at the small triumph. Even if her response was kind of standoffish. It was basically a yes and that's all I can ask for.
"You're whipped dude," Jason says. I've basically been texting Callie every chance I get. Jason has no right to accuse me of anything!
"Like, you can talk," I say snidely. All he ever does is talk about Piper or talk to Piper.
"She's my soulmate, I have every right to be whipped. You, on the other hand, have only been dating Callie for two weeks," Jason groans when I beat him in Call of Duty again.
"Callie could be my soulmate I can almost feel it! Does Piper make you nervous at all?" I ask. Callie makes me super nervous all the time.
"It depends on what kind of nervous," he says taking a sip of his water.
I pause the game and focus my attention on Jason. Soulmate talk is serious business to me. "I'm nervous I'm going to screw it all up and she's going to dump me," I say. I sigh softly and run a hand through my hair.
"Did you do something to upset her that would ever make her think of dumping you?" Jason asks. Jason leans forward and it kind of reminds me of something a therapist would do in a movie.
"Not that I know of. Sometimes my jokes are kind of corny and maybe even a little annoying, but that's nothing to get dumped over... is it?" My mind goes back to last Thursday when I stayed up and texted her like 20 jokes so she would have to read them in the morning.
"In my opinion, if by now you don't feel comfortable being yourself when with her, she's not your soulmate. And I hate to be that kind of friend, but she doesn't seem right for you," I lean back in my chair and run my hand through my hair again. How could he say that to me? Doesn't he see how happy she's made me?
"No. That doesn't make sense. People change who they are when they meet their soulmates all the time! This is no different," I stare at Jason in resentment. He doesn't get it because he has Piper. It only took them like 3 weeks to know they loved each other. He just got lucky.
"When people conquer addiction so they can be with their soulmate, that's love and that's right, but your sense of humor isn't hurting you and neither is your status in life. So don't go ahead and get rid of it for someone who probably isn't your soulmate. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but it's what I have to say," Jason sighs and stands up. I look up at him sadly, "I'll leave you be. Night Percy."
Jason leaves my dorm and I slump in my chair. How could something that feels so right, ever be wrong?
I fall onto my bed and sigh with bliss. My date with Callie couldn't have gone better and the kiss after the date was even better. We got along swimmingly. She seemed to like his jokes but would roll her eyes at the especially corny ones. She would flirt and compliment me without hesitation. She was perfect.
"I bet Annabeth is a lovely person, but why don't you just grab Callie instead? We have the kind of spark even a camera could catch," I spin around in my desk chair as I wait for Piper to finish the lighting and Annabeth to get here. Piper has been insisting on doing this shoot and since I don't have a reasonable excuse to get out of it...
I stop spinning when I hear a knock at my door. I get up quickly and Woah. I got up way too fast. There are dots everywhere. I continue to walk to the door and walking while dizzy isn't a good idea. I stumble and fall to the floor. Thump.
I scramble to my feet and take a few seconds to get my head back on straight. Piper is laughing maniacally behind me and I must be a sight for sore eyes because as soon as I open the door Annabeth rolls her eyes.
"You look like hell. Did hell find legs and come up with the name Percy? I won't tell anyone if you tell me," Annabeth smiles so I know she's joking.
"Why aren't you wearing a hoodie and a hat? Are you trying to get caught?" I peek my head out the door to make sure there are zero administrative people in the hallway. When I see that the coast is clear I grab her arm and drag her into my room.
"I could've walked into the room by myself Percy, and I have a hat right here," Annabeth pulls a hat from her back pocket and smirks at me. Why is she being so sassy?
"You would've stayed out in the hallway just to spite me. I know your type Annabeth," I turn around to see Piper staring at us interact. I turn back to Annabeth waiting for her reaction.
"First of all, You don't know me well enough to associate me with a type, second of all, there is no type to associate me with. I'm my own type," Her smirk returns in full force. I huff a bit and turn back to Piper.
"What is this photoshoot even centered on? I hope it's not chemistry because you brought the wrong girl for that topic," I take a seat in my swirly chair. Annabeth snorts from behind me and mutters something along the lines of, "You got one thing right."
"My mother has informed me that really powerful people follow my Instagram and enjoy my work off and on the camera. So she asked me to post weekly showing off what I can do. So I'm going to be needing you more than once a month Percy. Annabeth I'm going to need you too," Piper finished adjusting one of her lights and turns to us.
"As long as they don't take up too much of my time, I'm down," I say.
"You got it," is Annabeth's only response.
"So what's the topic this week?" I ask again.
"Oh, I forgot to answer that, didn't I? This week's focus will be on power," Piper starts to pull out clothing from her duffle bag. The last thing she pulls out is what I assume a dress that has a protective covering on it. Piper hangs it up on my closet doorway.
"Percy I want you to wear that outfit from when you took Callie to 71Above. It reeks of money and money is often associated with power. I did bring you these shoes though. Don't wear socks, and leave your shark tooth necklace on, it will give you this boyish vibe that yells flamboyance," I do as Piper says and ignore what she tells Annabeth to put on. I take my stuff to the bathroom and get ready.
When I took Callie out on that date I had buttoned the shirt all the way up and rolled the sleeves, but for this shoot, I think I should leave the sleeves and unbutton the top two or three buttons. It will give the look a bit of Percy Jackson flare. I look in the mirror and smile. I look good.
I walk out of the bathroom and see that Piper and Annabeth are still talking about her outfit.
"I don't have all day you know," I say while leaning on my bathroom doorframe.
"Don't get your panties in a wad Jackson! It's not like you have fifty different aspects to your outfit," Annabeth says. I roll my eyes. She was way nicer at the beach.
"I thought you couldn't remember my name Cha-" I'm interrupted by a knock at my door. My eyes widen and I look at Piper who's already pulling her hat and hoodie on. I look at Annabeth and see she's looking around for something to hide in.
"I'll be right there," I call out. I quickly go to my closet and pull out the first hoodie I see. I toss it to Annabeth and she throws it on quickly. I then rush to the door and open it.
"Mr. Tate," I say surprised. "What can I do for you?" To Mr. Tate's side is a really skinny kid who's wearing jeans a gray button-up shirt and suspenders. Suspenders? Really?
"This is Leo," Mr. Tate says gesturing to the kid. "He just transferred here and I was hoping you could finish up his tour for me? You see, I have to get back to my office," without waiting for my response he lightly shoves Leo in my direction and then turns on his heel to leave. I stare at his retreating figure. What the heck?
"Oh, and Mr. Jackson if you could refrain from wearing such fancy clothes when you go to your classes that would be much appreciated," Mr. Tate finishes right before he turns a corner and disappears from my sight.
"Is he always patronizing? Or did I just somehow already get on his bad side?" Leo asks.
"Around adults, he's the most pleasant man in the world and he has his favorites," I say sighing.
"I guess that makes you one of his favorites?" Leo asks challengingly.
I laugh, "No way dude. I'm probably his least favorite student," I smile at all the memories that come to my head.
"What did you do?"
"Last year I rallied all the boys together and started a strike," I say.
"What did you go on strike about?" He asks seemingly interested.
"We stopped going to classes for three whole days because the toilet paper here was awful," Leo laughs and I join him.
I stop laughing when I feel something sharp hit my back. I turn around and see Piper gesturing for me to hurry up.
"Hey, so I'm actually kind of busy right now so I can't exactly give you a tour, but my buddy Jason would probably be happy too," I walk out of my room and across the hall to Jason's door and knock. Jason answers it quickly and raises an eyebrow at my attire.
"Piper and Annabeth are over to do a shoot and guess who shows up?" I ask.
"I'm guessing this kid," Jason says pointing to Leo.
"Well, yeah Leo, but also Mr. Tate. I need you to finish Leo's tour for me," I ignore the stare Leo's been giving me since I mentioned Piper and Annabeth.
"I just finished a call with my dad so I'm free. But first I want to see Piper and Annabeth," I nod my head in agreement.
Jason goes back into his room and then comes back out really fast holding an expensive-looking watch.
"This watch will be good for your shoot," Jason says while handing me a silver watch.
"Wait, a dam second!" Leo says while holding his hands up in a stop gesture. "Who are Piper and Annabeth?"
I turn around and leave Jason to explain while I get us back into my room.
"Piper is my soulmate and Annabeth is one of her best friends," I swing the door open to find only Piper.
"Where'd Annabeth go?" I ask her.
"She's in the bathroom changing," Piper says pointing to my bathroom door. Piper gets up and shakes hands with Leo.
"I'm Piper, it's nice to meet you," She says before she goes and gives Jason a kiss on the cheek.
Leo doesn't say anything. He just stares at Piper. He better watch it before Jason goes all protective soulmate. Leo stops staring at Piper when a click sound, from my bathroom's lock, sounds. Annabeth comes out in a floor-length blue dress. My jaw almost drops. If I wasn't tied and knotted to Callie I think I'd kiss her with no hesitation.
"Wow, eres francamente Hermosa," Leo says while looking Annabeth up and down. (You are, frankly, beautiful)
"Gracias senior," Annabeth replies. Ok, so they know Spanish. Cool. Annabeth and Piper must assume the conversations are over because Annabeth sits down and Piper gets right to work on Annabeth's makeup. (Thank you, sir)
Leo and Jason fully turn to me. "So... do you guys have photoshoots like this all the time or?" Leo leaves his sentence hanging.
Instead of answering I pull out my phone and pull up Piper's Instagram page. I hand my phone over to Leo and let him scroll through for a while.
Suddenly he stops scrolling and he bursts out in laughter, "What are you and Jason even doing in this picture?" I lean over to see what post he's talking about and smile.
"Piper's teacher asked the class to do supernatural makeup and Piper went all out. I became this really cool evil sea god and Jason was like a nerd who happened to be the hero," Jason punches my shoulder and I laugh again.
"Does Piper give these pictures to her teachers?" Leo asks sounding astounded.
"No, usually she just takes pictures of what was needed. Apparently, most of her teachers have her Instagram so they see what she turns them into anyway. It probably gives her an unfair advantage over the other students, but nobody can say anything because they always turn out incredible," Jason says pridefully. You can tell he's proud of Piper and all of her skills.
"Percy, I'm almost done with Annabeth's makeup and I want to put a bit of bronzer on you so get ready!" Piper says, not taking her eyes off of Annabeth.
"Looks like I've got to go," I say to the boys.
"You have fun with that Percy," Jason says while leading Leo out of my room. Before the door fully closes you can hear Leo shout, "It was nice meeting you all! Especially you Annabeth!" It makes me chuckle. Hopefully, Leo and I can become good friends.
"You look great in Piper's new post!" Callie says from where she sits across from me.
"Thanks, Callie," I say before taking a large bite out of my burger. Callie wanted some fries so I took her to Mcdonald's for a quick bite.
"Are you and Annabeth good friends?" Callie asks.
"I wouldn't say we're good friends. We're more like great partners," As soon as I finish saying that my eyes widen. Callie instantly looks up and I know my choice of words was awful.
"Wait that came out wrong! It's kind of like we work together and well, it works," Callie raises an eyebrow.
"That didn't come out right either," I say holding my hands up in a please don't harass me, gesture.
"Only working together is a really common excuse for men who've cheated Percy," Callie says.
"I think I could fall in love with you and you somehow think I'm cheating? Just because I'm bad with wording things doesn't mean you can accuse me of cheating," I don't mean to sound rude, but that's just how it comes out. I'm not a cheater.
"I just don't want you to break my heart, Percy. Soulmates are a big deal for me," Callie pushes her fries to the side. This is getting a bit serious for Mcdonalds.
"If you think they're not a big deal for me too, then you obviously haven't been paying attention," I get up and throw away my wrappers.
"Since we seem to be on the same page, I think it's time we head back," Callie follows suit and throws away her trash.
The ride back is silent and I drop her off with a kiss on the cheek. No matter if we're fighting, I'm not going to leave her alone thinking I'm going to quit on her. Callie has every right to be jealous. The past people she dated were mostly made up of models. They have a tendency to cheat apparently. I just need to prove my loyalty to her.
I get back to my dorm room quickly and check my phone for any other notifications. There are tons from Instagram saying they like Piper's post. I click on the notification and my phone takes me to the post. The first picture is of Annabeth and I just standing next to each other. We look like we just got off the red carpet. The second picture is one of me sitting down and leaning forward while Annabeth stands behind me with a hand on my shoulder. There are two more pictures and they both have us in confident stances with us touching one another in some way.
I can definitely see where Callie is coming from. We look like the power couple of the century. I look through some of the comments.
Piper, you've outdone yourself again! They look like the type of couple to actually walk the red carpet one day! They're so cute together.
These are amazing! I cant wait to see more from the power couple!
The sexual tension in those last two pictures is crazy! Piper, you're so talented to have captured that on camera!
That comment stops me in my tracks. What sexual tension? I look back at the third photo. Annabeth is standing a bit in front of me. She has a hand on my chest that's supposed to make it look like she's holding me back. It was supposed to make a statement that girls can take the heat too. I study the picture some more.
Oh. It's not how Annabeth is touching my chest or anything about her that makes the picture look like there's sexual tension. It's my face. I look almost angry that she's holding me back. Or maybe I look protective of her or something. I scroll once more to the last picture and sigh. It's the same picture only my facial expression has changed. Instead of looking mad or protective, I look fond and proud.
I scroll through the thousands of comments and try to see if Annabeth commented on Piper's post. I stop when I see her username.
I'm never going to go through the comments again. Jackson_Percy you have so many fangirls on here it makes me want to puke.
Her comment makes me smile for a second and then frown. I need to set this straight. I haven't posted about me and Callie yet, so I click the middle button at the bottom of my screen and find the picture of me and Callie at 71Above. I had our waitress take it. Callie and I are holding hands across the table and smiling. I tag Callie in it so she sees and then I add a heart emoji to the description and then post it.
Hopefully, this will set things straight.
I knock on Jason's dorm room door and wait. Jason apparently invited some people over to have a small weekend party. I pull out my phone to help pass the time.
The door opens and I look up to see Jason smiling at me.
"Come in!" Jason says whilst opening the door wider. "Somehow you live across the hall from me and you still end up being the last one here."
"What can I say, I'm a man of many talents," I chuckle slightly and walk into his dorm. Everyone who has these upper dorms come from wealthy families that want their kids to get special treatment. We get the rooms all to ourselves and it comes with a living room area as opposed to having roommates and a small kitchen. It's like living in a small apartment.
I walk into the living room area and survey all who came. There's Piper of course on the couch sitting next to Leo and Annabeth. Callie is also here and is sitting on the other couch with Frank and Hazel. Callie sees me and smiles. I smile in return and start making my way toward her. I go behind the couch and kiss the top of her head before sitting on the arm of the couch.
"Percy, how on earth did you get a girl like Callie to date you? The fact that you guys could be soulmates astounds me," Leo says out of nowhere. I turn my head and study him. I pointedly ignore the soulmate's comment and think about what he asked instead. He doesn't look confused so it's not like he's actually wondering right?
"Some of us don't just talk the talk Leo, we also walk the walk," Leo nods his head as if it's advice. Leo has joined Jason and me at lunch lately and it's become obvious that Leo is a flirt. All he ever seems to talk about are machines and girls. Machines because his dad is some huge mechanic and wants Leo to take over for him in Europe after he graduates and girls because I'm almost positive he's addicted to them.
"You can't even say that Perce!" Piper says laughing, "Callie's the one who took initiative in the first place!" I blush and shake my head. Screw Piper for being right.
"Let's just remember that I wouldn't let her plan the date and I took care of everything. Can we move on from this topic?" I ask.
"Yes, please! Talking about dating and soulmates is cliche and a complete waste of time," Annabeth says. Piper gasps and smacks Annabeth on her arm resulting in Annabeth exclaiming, "Ow," and smacking back. Everyone else just kind of stares at Annabeth.
"Talking about your future isn't a waste of time Annabeth," I say slowly. How can she say something like that about soulmates? They're the most important thing about life.
"You're right Percy talking about one's future isn't a waste of time so let's talk about our future occupations and politics," I look around at everyone else and see they're just watching Annabeth and I talk.
"Those are just aspects of one's future Annabeth. Your soulmate and family are your future," I speak slowly hoping that what I say will make sense.
"A soulmate is just a person with a title Percy, not your future," Annabeth speaks lowly and with a sharp tone making me flinch lightly.
"You're wrong Annabeth," I look down ashamed. Telling someone their opinion is wrong is rude and if my mom were here she'd grab me by the ear and give me a firm talking to.
"If Callie was your soulmate would you just make everything about her? Forget about everything else and just base it all off of what she wants?"
"No of course not! I still have to take over my dad's business and I want the chance to just unwind and take some time for myself," Why is she picking a fight with me?
"Well, then you're the one who's wrong because you just said that your soulmate is your future," Annabeth quickly gets up and leaves to the kitchen.
"Just because I have other aspects in my life doesn't mean they're not the most important aspect!" I yell in her general direction.
I look over at Leo when he whistles lowly, "That was sexual tension if I ever saw it," he says. If I was close enough to smack him I would.
"That was not sexual tension Leo, that was anger and frustration," I glare at him. Did he forget that Callie was right next to me?
"Leo's right," Callie turns to face me completely, "that was definitely sexual tension. Why are you and Annabeth always like that? Do you guys like each other or something? Cause it's getting kind of ridiculous," I stare at Callie in unbelief.
"I know you've dated other guys who didn't take your relationship seriously, but I take relationships seriously, especially when I think you could be my soulmate. I don't doubt you when I see you with other guys and maybe that means I'm too trusting because apparently, talking to a friend is cheating! You don't think I'm cheating on you when I'm with Piper! So why are you jealous of Annabeth? I barely talk to Annabeth! Sure, I think she's a great friend, and yes she's beautiful, but so is Piper and so is Hazel, and so are you!"
"Why is Annabeth always the reason we argue? I really like you Callie and I wouldn't put up with these kinds of accusations just for anybody. I've tried to make you understand that we have so much potential, but you can't seem to get past Annabeth. So obviously you need to figure that out," I remind myself to breathe and then stand up.
"If anyone else wants to argue with me tonight be my guest! I'm on a roll!" I look at everyone else and see that they're all wide-eyed and frozen. I look to my left and see Annabeth standing under the opening that goes into the kitchen and dining area. Even she's wide-eyed.
I glare at Leo, "You should think before you say things kid. Especially when you don't know what you're talking about," I turn around and head towards the front door. That was a disaster.
I open the door and slip out into the hallway. I get my dorm key out and slide it in. Before I can open my door I hear someone open Jason's door.
I turn around and see Annabeth standing in the open doorway. "We obviously don't see eye to eye on everything but I think we can both agree that some things that were said in there, shouldn't have been said. I'll be the first to apologize and say that I shouldn't have provoked you and I'm sorry," She opens her mouth to say more but I cut her off, "I'm not going to apologize to anybody else if that's what you want me to do, but I'll apologize to you because I know it was rude of me to say your opinion was wrong. So I'm sorry." I don't wait for a response. Instead, I just open my dorm door and walk in. I close the door without looking back and sigh. Something is definitely wrong with my life.
I walk out of my kitchen with chips in my hand when I hear a knocking at my door. I open my door and see Callie standing at my door, wringing her hands together. I raise my eyebrow, at her. I thought she'd get the message that I don't want to talk to her when I ignored her tenth call of the past hour.
"I know you don't want to talk to me-," her eyes are cast to the floor and I think she has tears running down her face but I'm not sure, "-but I need you to at least listen to me."
"Fine," I step aside to let her in. This conversation doesn't need to be heard by my neighbors.
"Thanks." She stares at me when I sit down. Was she going to talk or was she just going to stare at me?
"I've liked you for a long time. Longer than I think you know. You've always been this really great-looking guy with a great personality. You work hard and you're so kind. You've had my attention since I first saw you. Ever since I was a little girl I've wanted to find my soulmate and I always imagined it would be someone like you. The only problem is, I care about you to the point I get jealous of a girl you're just friends with. Maybe one day you guys will be more, the point is, care about you to the point I think I love you," Callies voice breaks, and a sob follows close behind.
Was loving me not a good thing?
"We're just in a bit of a rough spot, the fighting will end and we'll be fine. Why are you crying, love?" I quickly go to her side and pull her into my arms so she can sob into my shoulder.
"You don't get it," she cries.
"Then help me too."
"Percy, I love you. Your name..."
Where was my name? I suddenly understand and my chest constricts in pain. The only reason she'd be crying like this would be because my name wasn't over her heart.
"Oh."
"I really thought you'd be the one," she whispers. I continue to hold her.
"Despite our arguments, we had so much fun," I hold her tighter and tears come to my eyes. I'd known Callie for years and she was always the one in my daydreams. I hoped she'd be my soulmate and my heart physically hurts knowing she's not.
"I'm sorry, but I can't be with you knowing you're not truly mine," Callie pulls away from me and leaves. I stare at the door that's now shut firmly. My dream of finding my soulmate is once again, crushed.
I let the tears fall and a small whimper escapes my lips. I thought we worked! I thought she was going to be the love of my life! I fall to my knees and hunch over, my tears steadily streaming down my face.
My phone buzzes in my pocket and out of pure frustration, I take it out and throw it at the wall. I now know why people say 'A broken heart is the worst. It's like having broken ribs. Nobody can see it but the pain is unbearable every time you breathe.' To top it all off tomorrow is Monday.
Monday comes and goes slowly. I ignore all my friends and do my schooling in absolute silence. I make it through school on Tuesday before someone seeks me out.
I open my door to find Piper. She's looking at me with sad eyes that scream pity. I debate shutting the door in her face but decide it's not worth it.
"Come on in," I say.
Piper walks past me and into my dorm. She lays on my couch and grabs a controller for my PlayStation. I sit down next to her and we play Call of Duty silently. When Jason shows up ten minutes later I'm not supposed. He has a Piper radar of sorts. When Leo shows up I look at Jason and Piper. They keep their eyes on the tv screen but I know they're up to something. When Frank and Hazel show up I'm positive.
"Did you invite everyone over or something?"I ask Piper.
"I sent it in the group chat, but since you broke your phone you didn't see it," my heart swells in both anger and appreciation. I don't want their pity and I definitely don't want to talk about anything that has to do with soulmates, which always comes up in conversation it seems. Appreciation for my friends outweighs my anger and I smile softly.
"Thank you," I say softly.
I'm about to ask everyone to leave when there's another knock at the door. I look at Piper to see if it's anyone she knows or if I need to hide the girls somehow. Piper shrugs her shoulders so I silently point to the bathroom and nod her and Hazel over.
I get the door when they're out of sight and startle when I see Annabeth.
"The parties not over is it?" She asks with a smile.
"Not yet," I say. I don't mention how I was going to send people home soon, instead, I decide they can stay for a while longer.
Annabeth joins the boys on the couch and I give the other girls the all-clear signal. Piper claps happily when she sees Annabeth.
"I thought you said you were busy with homework!" Piper sits in Annabeth's lap which makes Jason frown and Percy laugh. His best friend was one of a kind.
"I did most of it but decided I should probably be here instead," Annabeth sends me another small smile which I return. Piper beams and starts talking about a celebrity that sent her a dm asking her out despite knowing she had found her soulmate. Jason rolls his eyes. I guess he already knew about the celeb.
An hour later people start to leave. Piper goes to Jason's room where I assume they plan on properly saying goodbye to each other. Annabeth stays back and Percy's surprised.
"I'm sorry I came late," Annabeth says in explanation.
"I didn't know I was hosting anyone in the first place so don't worry about it," I sit next to her on the couch.
"I threw my phone after Callie told me my name wasn't-," my throat tightens and I stop talking. The threat of tears coming upon me, "we broke up."
"You could have stayed casual with her you know," she says softly.
"It would make things worse. Besides it's hard to fall in love with someone else when you're in a relationship," I stare at her curiously. I didn't think she was the type to casually date. Even if you knew you weren't soulmates.
"You could have made some happy memories. Or you guys could have been friends with benefits," if she hadn't already thrown me off with her previous statement she'd definitely thrown me for a loop with this one.
"Annabeth Chase! Don't tell me you're the kind of person to just make out with someone occasionally and stay friends!"
Annabeth shrugs her shoulders, "I'd offer you my assistance but you're not the type to just kiss someone," If I were the type to easily startle I think I might have fainted.
"Um..." How do I respond to something like that?
"I'm joking Percy, I'm going to head back to my school now," Annabeth stands and heads to my dorm door. I follow closely behind.
So apparently, Annabeth has a side to her that I never expected. I'll have to ask Piper about it when I get my new phone this next weekend. Annabeth shrugs on her jacket and I open the door for her.
"I know soulmates are important to you so I truly hope you find yours," Annabeth walks away.
I close my door and lean against it once it's shut. What are the chances of me finding my soulmate while I'm at school? Close to zero probably. People say your first years of college are when you find your true love.
There will always be the high school sweethearts like Jason and Piperor the occasional best friend growing up. The thing is finding your soulmate is supposed to be natural. If I want one so bad shouldn't I want to date until I truly love someone. Go after what I want? Scientists say no. Hollywood says no. Mother Nature says no, but maybe I should. Date until it feels right, keep it casual.
As soon as I get my phone back I change my Instagram bio to say single instead of taken. If I'm going to keep it casual I'm going to need girls to realize I'm single. I also text Piper about Annabeth. I discreetly ask her to tell me more about Annabeth. According to Piper, Annabeth is a genius who will redesign the White House the next time a natural disaster hits the place. Annabeth is very witty and blunt. She likes to go on adventures and enjoys sports.
There was no information about her love life and there was no way I was going to flat out ask about it, so I stalked her Instagram profile. She has pictures from photoshoots with Piper and pictures of buildings. There are some blueprint things with sketches on them and all sorts of other stuff. She seems extremely well rounded. I made the huge mistake of accidentally liking a photo of her at the beach from two years ago so that sucked. Luckily she hasn't mentioned anything.
It's been two months since I broke up with Callie. I have four more months till I graduate. Four months to try and be casual.
Ever since I changed my bio the girls from Piper's school have been talking to me when I'm outside. They all want to go do something which is great but they're all a bit overzealous. I did go on a date with a nice girl named Katelyn but she was a bit too sweet. She reminded me a bit of Callie and it was way too soon to try and go after a girl who reminded me of her. I went on a double date with a girl named Lina. We went with Piper and Jason and it went well, but I didn't have enough in common with her to try actually dating.
So, here I am, sitting at my desk waiting for Piper and Annabeth to show up so we can have a shoot for Piper's Instagram. I scroll through my DMs answering the people I actually know and ignoring the thirst traps.
A knock at my door has me hastily getting up and rushing to my door. What can I say? I've been bored.
I open the door and see Piper's giant duffle bag filled to the brim with clothes. Annabeth is behind her with Piper's lighting stuff.
"Okay, we have lots to do so let's get started. I'm trying some new stuff with the themes. It's winter and cold so we're going to go for a cozy vibe while we do pictures inside and then we're going to go outside and turn the theme into trying to stay warm. I've already done Annabeth's hair so all we need to do is your guys' makeup and outfit changes!" Piper throws the duffle on my spinny office chair and starts setting up her lighting.
"What's all the hustle for? We still have a couple of hours until the sunsets. If you were so worried you should have waited until Saturday," I watch Annabeth move the duffle to the bed so she can sit down in the chair. She starts setting up some light and a makeup mirror.
"My mom has this friend named Venus and she's this crazy successful model in Europe. Anyways, Venus called me asking me to do a winter shoot where I show off my makeup, hair, and fashion skills. She wants to hire me after I graduate but it all depends on this. The photos need to be in her email by Saturday. There's no time to waste," she starts doing Annabeth's makeup.
I walk over to the duffle bag and undo the zipper. I take off a couple of sleek winter coats and stare at the rest of the clothes. (A/N I realize the clothes might have wrinkles after being in a duffle, but we're going to pretend Piper is a magician and the clothes she gives them are wrinkle-free) Did she steal my credit card to buy all this?
"Piper, where did you get all these clothes?" I knew I'd probably have to do one outfit change with the two themes, but there are at least six tops in here.
"My mom bought them as soon as I told her what I needed to do. She set them and they just got here today. Which is another reason we're in such a rush. Feel free to keep everything you like. Jason is the same size with bottoms and the tops will be a bit tight for him if you don't want them, but he won't mind," I stop going through the clothes and watch Piper's steady hand glide along Annabeth's face. Piper won't need to do too much considering Annabeth is a natural beauty.
"For the cozy theme what are your top clothing choices?" I ask taking the men's clothing out and laying them on my bed.
"You'd look pretty cozy if you were naked," Annabeth says with a calm voice.
I feel my face heat up and I'm feeling quite faint. Piper laughs and I look over to see her watching me. Annabeth's eyes are closed, but she has a small smirk on her face.
"You can't just say things like that," I say.
"Why not?" Annabeth asks.
Time for some fun. Payback is a whore Annabeth, "You should be careful what you wish for."
I swiftly pull my t-shirt over my head and start undoing the zipper of my jeans. When Piper glances over at my swift movements her hand jerks and a snort escapes her. Annabeth opens her eyes and looks at me. Her cheeks go pink but her grin widens and becomes a smirk. She gets up from her chair leaving Piper sitting on my desk to watch. I gulp and quickly try to button my pants back up, but fail miserably.
Annabeth grabs my wrist and pulls my hands away from my jeans before she grabs the two sides and pulls them together like she's going to button them herself. She leans in close to my ear and goosebumps rise on my skin when she whispers in my ear, "As much as I'd love to have a pornographic shoot with you, I don't think Piper could handle seeing that."
Annabeth buttons my jeans and kisses under my jaw. I feel my pants start to tighten and I quickly back away; my breathing shallow.
I clear my throat and turn to Piper. Her grin could make the Cheshire cat jealous. "Which outfit do you want me to wear for the cozy theme?"
"You can go with the gray sweats and that designer black hoodie, or I really like the white shirt with that red flannel. This outfit will be really basic, unlike the one you'll switch into for our outside shoot," I grab the sweats, shirt, and flannel before heading to the bathroom. I don't trust myself to undress in front of Annabeth.
When I come back out, I find Annabeth looking at me with pleading eyes, holding up a pristine, white hoodie, that I never let myself wear.
"Can I please wear this one?" She asks, her pouty lips turning me to mush.
"Fine, but be careful to not get makeup on it. I can't have it staining," Annabeth beams at me and grabs the hoodie before swiftly kissing my cheek and going into my bathroom to change.
"What's with all the flirting between you two?"Piper asks. She sits on my desk and starts working her magic.
"She's been this way since I broke up with Callie. She offered to make out with me!" I try and keep my expression neutral as I talk.
"Annabeth's a natural flirt, but as far as I know she's only kissed a couple of guys. Never keeps them as a friend with benefits, would, she never dates, and she never talks about it. The only reason I know is because of a spontaneous game of truth or dare!"
I hum to acknowledge I heard her. I hear a door open and shut and assume Annabeth came out of the bathroom. I keep my eyes shut so Piper doesn't screw herself up. I want her to get this job probably more than she wants it. I'd even make out with Annabeth if it got her the job!
"Finished. Okay, I want you two to cuddle on Percy's bed. I'll direct you from there," I walk to the bed and wait for Annabeth to join me.
"Do you want to sit in between my legs first while I lean against my bed's headboard?" I ask.
"Yeah, that will work," Annabeth replies.
I carefully crawl onto my bed and sit back against the headboard. I spread my legs and watch as Annabeth joins me. I wrap one arm around her and fiddle with my phone while I wait for Piper to finish adjusting the lighting. If the extra light was gone and Piper wasn't there I could pretend Annabeth was my girlfriend and we were about to watch a movie.
"Okay, we need this to look natural so Percy, keep playing with your phone and Annabeth pretend to fall asleep. Perfect," Piper snaps pictures and I can only assume Annabeth has her eyes closed.
"Percy kiss the top of her head," I do as directed, "that was good, but do it again and this time bury your nose in her hair a bit so it looks like your smelling her hair," Annabeth snorts and it makes me laugh. Why would I smell a girl's hair? I lean down and give Annabeth'shead another kiss but this time, instead of pulling away, I tilt my head forward and breathe against her hair. Her hair admittedly smells good. She smells clean and like lemon.
"Yes! Perfect! Okay, now I want Annabeth to sit over here and face Percy. Act like you're telling him about something really interesting. Percy plays around with some different expressions until I tell you otherwise," Annabeth moves away from me taking her heat with her.
"I'm not the best of actresses so I'm just going to talk to you and hope it looks like I'm passionate about something or another," I nod my head.
"Your chest is really sexy did you know that?" My eyes widen and my mouth opens. How can she say stuff like that out of nowhere?
"I don't like to get a big head so I wait for all the girls to tell me about how sexy I am," Annabeth laughs and I smile. She's blunt and a bit crude, but she's great, company.
"Pery say or do something that will make Annabeth blush and go all soft," Piper demands. The camera is going off like crazy.
"You're beautiful and I love you," I smile when a blush enters Annabeth's face. It doesn't happen often and I've made her blush twice today. It's a great day.
"I love you too," Annabeth shoots back. It's my turn for my cheeks to get pink. Not from embarrassment but from happiness. No matter how fake the words are, they're bound to make someone smile.
In the moment, and hoping it will help Piper I tug Annabeth closer to me and put my hand on her cheek. Piper's camera clicking crazily. I stare at her gray eyes before kissing her pink lips. Her lips are soft and they move slowly against his own. He pulls away and smiles.
The kiss didn't mean a dam thing but it felt nice. Annabeth raises an eyebrow at me so I give her a playful wink and pull back fully.
"You're not a bad kisser," Annabeth says. What is that supposed to mean? Did she think I was a bad kisser?
"What's that supposed to mean?" I voice my thoughts.
"You've gone on a couple of dates with girls, but they never stuck. I figured they all gave you a fake number because you were a bad kisser or something," I stare at Annabeth open-mouthed. Piper seems to be having a field day. Her camera shutter clicks enthusiastically and she tries to keep her laughter low. It doesn't work very well.
"I didn't kiss any of those girls, not that it's any of your business. The girls just weren't my type," I shrug my shoulders. Annabeth changes her positioning so she's laying on her stomach, facing me,
"Are you insecure about your kissing?" Annabeth asks. Is she serious?
"No. I don't like kissing people on the first date. I only kiss people I think will stick around," I try to keep my tone light-hearted, but I don't think I did a good job.
"So you plan on keeping me around?" Annabeth asks with a coy smile.
"Only for a while," I respond.
"This is really cute, but I need to move all the lights to the kitchen and for you guys to take your cute butts there as well," Piper grabs her lighting equipment and leaves the room.
"If that wasn't cozy I don't know what is," I say.
"Maybe we should have cuddled for real and got some pictures of you, as the little spoon," Annabeth laughs and I scowl. I'm definitely the big spoon.
"Percy I want you to start making hot chocolate. Annabeth sits on the counter by the stove. We need to do these pictures faster so you guys can change and we can get the pictures outside done," I quickly get some milk on the stove and some hot chocolate mix out.
"You want me on the right or left side," Annabeth asks.
"Go on the right," Piper says.
Annabeth sits down on the countertop and turns to me.
"You're not bad at taking pictures. Remind me again why you don't want to be a model?"
"Modeling is fun and all, but that's because I do it for Piper. I have an international company to take over when my dad retires. That hoodie you're wearing was specially made for me by the president. My dad built him a warship with a flawless design. My dad is now one of the sole builders of the U.S Navy. I have a lot to live up to," I stand close to her and fiddle with the hood strings.
"I'm wearing a hoodie designed by the president?" Annabeth asks with wide eyes.
"Yup," I say, popping the 'p'.
"No wonder it's so white! Why would you let me wear this?"
"I'm not brave enough to wear it and it looks cute on you," I shrug my shoulders.
"Your soulmate is one lucky girl, or guy," I snort. Guy? Yeah, no. I'm definitely straight.
"Percy, stand in between her legs. Try and look cute, I know it's hard for you but try for me," Piper laughs. I shoot her a scowl. Does she not read the comments on her posts? People love me!
I stand in between Annabeth's legs and give her a soft smile.
"Your face is cute, but you need to be touching Annabeth in some way," Piper says.
I look at Annabeth trying to gauge her reactions. I don't want to be disrespectful or make her feel violated. I place my hands right above her knees. Annabeth rolls her eyes. She takes my hands into her own and slowly moves them up till they're resting on her upper thighs. I stare at my hands and feel my face heat. It's just a photoshoot it doesn't mean anything I tell myself.
"Get over your gentlemen act, and look like your cozying up to Annabeth," Piper demands.
I take a calming breath and look up. Annabeth is looking at me with her head tilted and her eyebrows raised. The lighting makes her blonde hair look golden and she looks impossibly tan. It's the middle of winter how does she do that? I listen to the camera click as it rapidly goes off. Annabeth is beautiful. Her lips look so pink and inviting. Maybe I could get away with kissing her again. Her normally blonde eyelashes and eyebrows are tinted darker with makeup. I unconsciously rub circles into her thighs with my thumbs.
"Do you like peppermint hot chocolate?" I ask in a whisper. Why speak in a normal voice when we were this close?
"Yes," she whispers back, her breath hitting my face.
I move away and pour the chocolate powder into the milk. I mix it thoroughly before grabbing three mugs. I pour one for Annabeth and set it on the table where it's out of the way before pouring the other two, giving one to Annabeth.
I watch as she blows on her hot chocolate and I sigh. Taking pictures with Annabeth is fun. She's funny, witty, and so beautiful. If she weren't such a stick in the mud I'd ask her out. She takes a tentative sip of her hot chocolate and smiles. She should smile like that more often, with her eyes closed and a small tilt at her mouth.
Piper chose to not show Annabeth and me the pictures she took. She said she wanted us to wait until she posted them for Venus. So here I am, sitting at my kitchen table, eating cereal, waiting for her to post. My phone vibrates in my hand and I get excited, only to frown when I see it's just Leo playing me back in cup pong.
This week had been crazy with the photoshoot. Piper had called me twice a day freaking out about my hair saying maybe she wouldn't the job because my hair doesn't cooperate. Annabeth had come over a couple of times with Piper on her heel. They would be arguing when they got here and laughing when they left. Annabeth has become one of my best friends. She's so much fun to hang out with. She likes to talk and argue and play video games. There was only one problem with her. Two actually. She didn't care about soulmates in the least and she hasn't left my head since the photoshoot.
We've had this ongoing argument about soulmates through text messages for the past three days! She was as stubborn as a mule. I know I like her. I know she dates but keeps it casual and if I did ask her out on a date I wouldn't be able to stop myself from falling in love and hurting myself. She's been this enigma since I met her. She's the coolest person you'll ever meet, but she has zero emotion. At least she doesn't have any emotions around me.
My phone vibrates again and I click the Instagram notification so fast I could probably be a professional mobile gamer. My phone takes me to Piper's Instagram and without looking at the pictures I read the description. The first pictures are for the theme of trying to keep warm and the last three pictures are from the theme cozy. Thank you Jackson_Percy and Annabeth_Chase for modeling. Also, go check out Venus_24 who is now my boss and a leading model in Europe!
She got the job! I leave Instagram and call her. She picks up almost instantly and I scream, "Congrats! You're now working for Venus! How do you feel?"
"So amazing! My mom wanted me to tell you as soon as possible, that she wants a good seat at your and Annabeth's wedding. Now that that's done, what did you think of the pictures! It was so hard to choose which ones showed you guys off the best!"
"Tell your mom that we aren't getting married or else she'll have already planned it. And, I haven't even looked at the pictures yet," I say.
"Well put yourself on speakerphone and go look at them!" Piper yells.
I do as she says and clicks on my Instagram. The first three photos are of me and Annabeth all smiley wrapped up in each other out in the snow. The close-up picture focuses on Annabeth's face and perfectly highlights Piper's skill. She looks like a goddess.
"These are amazing," I mumble.
"Hold on. Don't go through the others until I can see your face. Grab your laptop," Piper hangs up and quickly facetime me on my laptop before I go through the rest.
I scroll to find a picture of us cuddled on my bed Annabeth feigning sleep. My arm is around her and we look like a cozy couple. The next picture is of Annabeth staring at me while I stir hot chocolate. My breath catches in my throat. If I didn't know any better I'd say she was looking at me with love. My heart hurts a little and my chest constricts painfully. It's not real I chant to myself.
I scroll again to the last picture and I stare horrified. It's a picture of our faces close together. Annabeth's eyes are closed while mine are open. Annabeth looked in total bliss and her lips are shinier from the kiss I gave her. I look totally in awe of her. I pull my eyes away from my phone and stare at Piper.
"You're totally in love with her. It's kind of sad," Piper says.
"Maybe a bit," I say.
My chest feels warm and a small pressure over my heart makes me close my eyes. My heart burns and I more firmly close my eyes. No, no, no, no!
I open my eyes to a wide-eyed Piper. She looks from my face to my chest three times before she sighs, "Let's have a look."
I numbly nod my head and take my sweater off. I stare at the small window of my laptop where I can see myself.
Annabeth
Piper gasps and starts to cry. I cry with her. I hear a door slam on Piper's side of the phone.
"Piper I just saw the post! Congratulations! Why are you crying?" Someone asks. No not just anyone. Annabeth.
I yelp and throw myself to my kitchen floor. Of course, it would be Annabeth.
"You need to go to Percy's right now! Grab a hat and a hoodie and get over there now!" Piper says, her voice cracking. What on earth is Piper doing? I can't tell Annabeth!
"Is he okay? Are you okay? What on earth is going on?" I hear rustling on the other side of the call and almost die. No, no, no, no.
"I'm fine, but you need to go to Percy's place," I think I'm having a panic attack.
"Is that Percy on the phone?" I hear Annabeth ask. I jump up and quickly end the call. I can't breathe. I can't breathe.
It's finally happened. I know who my soulmate is and I love her, but she doesn't love me! She doesn't want me!
I pass out.
"Percy open up! Are you okay? Piper told me I needed to get here now," Annabeth is yelling. That much I register.
I sit up and stare at the door horrified.
"I'm fine! You can go back!" I call through the door.
"I'm not leaving until I see the physical evidence that you are indeed fine!" If she doesn't quiet down she's going to get caught. Do I open the door and risk ruining my entire future or do I let Annabeth get caught and risk getting expelled from school?
"Perseus Jackson!" I jump up and race to the door. My dad would kill me if I got expelled! My heart can take the heartbreak. I can't risk myself or Annabeth getting expelled.
I open the door to see a frantic Annabeth decked out in a black hoodie, jeans and a hat with the hood pulled up. She looked like she was going to commit murder.
Annabeth's eyes go wide at the sight of me at my heart plummets. She rushes over and grabs my chin. She pulls me down and studies my forehead.
"You're bleeding! What on earth did you do? Did you take your shirt off so you wouldn't get blood on it?" I'm bleeding? I'm bleeding!
"You have blood running down your neck and shoulder!" Annabeth grabs my arm and leads me into my kitchen. Now that she mentions it, my head does hurt. I reach up to touch the burning spot on my head, but my hand is slapped by Annabeth's. She takes me to the sink and grabs a washcloth. She presses it to the side of my head and stares at me worriedly.
"Why are you bleeding?" Annabeth asks softly. How do I tell her? Tears come to my eyes and I try to blink them away.
"I fainted," I choke out. She wipes the blood off my neck and shoulder before putting pressure on my wound once more.
"Why?"
I shake my head no. I probably look like a child but I don't care. Tears running down my face, blood pouring out of my head, I wish I left Annabeth outside. I'd rather risk expulsion.
"Are you injured anywhere else?" Annabeth asks instead.
My hand goes to my chest and a small sob escapes me. My heart hurts and Annabeth can't fix that wound. Annabeth removes my hand and stares. A needle could have dropped and the sound would have been as powerful as any explosion.
"Oh," she says.
I step away from her. I can't be next to her. "I'm sorry."
"Don't be sorry Percy," Annabeth whispers.
"Don't be sorry? I accidentally fell in love with you! I could easily accept the fact that I liked you, but I was looking at those pictures with Piper and my chest burned it felt so good and yet hurt so bad because you don't want a soulmate!"
Annabeth holds her ground and narrows her eyes at me, "So are you yelling at me because your mad I'm your soulmate or because of my opinion on soulmates or what?" Annabeth asks.
"You don't want this," I gesture between her and me, "you don't want me, and that hurts really freaking bad."
"You're wrong on one thing. I didn't want a soulmate, I wanted the choice of choosing who I loved. I don't believe in some writing. But I do believe I could fall in love with you. Do you think I flirted with you all the time for no reason?"
"Yes?"
"No, if you haven't seen yourself you're really hot! You're a great guy who works hard and loves his friends, and his family. You're the kind of guy every girl wants to fall in love with. I didn't want to be your soulmate, because I wanted to be with someone because I'd chosen myself, not because it's in writing. Yes, I think the soulmate system dictates people's lives too much, but I'm glad it's you. I'm sure your name will pop up soon," Annabeth speaks slowly and my heart hums at her words. She wants me. She wants me and I want her.
"I don't want to pressure you into anything. So if I ever become too much, tell me to back off," I reach out and pull her into a hug. She pulls away after a few seconds but only enough to look at my chest.
She kisses the skin that's tattooed with her name, sending shivers down my spine.
"Can I kiss you?" I whisper, my eyes dropping to look at her lips. Her pink, delicious lips.
"You never have to ask."
I place my hand on her cheek and guide her to me. I keep the pace slow and take my time, trying to memorize the feeling of her lips. I thank every god there is, that it's Saturday and I have the weekend to memorize and learn everything that is Annabeth.
I hope you guys enjoyed this! It's been in my folder for months, halfway finished. My laptop was being stupid and wouldn't let me start a new chapter for my Saved By The Moon story so I decided to finish this ;)
This is unedited and frankly not very good work, but it played out in my head like a movie so I wrote it down as best I could. I apologize for the first-person/third-person switches. I have zero control over how my brain thinks and I can't type fast enough to keep up with my brain so sorry.
