Prompt: "why are you so jealous?" / 2x03 "Sailor Man"

...

"Hello?" Jane hollered into the auto repair shop.

Jane, Maura, and Angela had gone to breakfast to take Angela's mind off of her recent divorce, but unfortunately, on the way back, her car broke down. Could nothing go right? So now the girls found themselves standing in an auto repair shop hoping that someone could fix Angela's car (and maybe her life).

Out walked Giovanni. Angela was delighted to see him, but Jane just rolled her eyes. Maura was intrigued by the vastly different responses from the Rizzoli women.

"Hey. How you doin'?" Jane politely greeted.

"Great. You look hot as ever," Giovanni replied.

"Doesn't she?" Angela gushed.

"Ah, your ma - nicest lady on the block," Giovanni said. "I swear to God, I'll never forget your chocolate-chip cookies."

Giovanni moved towards Jane and Maura. Jane quickly moved to use Maura as a shield against him. "This is my friend Dr. Isles."

"You can call me Maura." Maura shook his hand and tried to figure out why Jane had such disdain for Giovanni.

"So, Ma's car died," Jane said.

"It sounds to me like the water-pump bearing," Maura added.

"Look at you, all 'My Cousin Vinny,'" Giovanni chuckled. "Love that."

"The car is running hot," Maura said. "You might want to check the coolant."

Giovanni lifted the hood of the car and replied. "Oh, yeah, yeah. You're losing some coolant here."

Angela complimented, "You were always so handy. Wasn't he, Jane?"

"Well, apparently so is Maura. We shoulda just had her fix it," Jane said as her cellphone began to ring.

Giovanni said from under the hood, "Looks like more than just a pump. Could take a while."

Jane hung up her phone call and said to Maura, "We've got a case. Let's go."

"How?" Maura asked. "We don't have a car."

Giovanni stood up from under the hood. "Since you're a gearhead like me, take Julietta. Restored her myself." Giovanni uncovered an old, red car on the other side of the shop.

Jane immediately replied "No" over Maura's "I would love that!"

...

Maura looked up from her desk to see Jane getting off the elevator with Giovanni. He had a box of chocolates and flowers in his hands.

"Giovanni, come in," Maura greeted as she stood. "Uh, what are you doing here?"

"You look hot," Giovanni replied. Jane rolled her eyes.

"Thank you," Maura replied with confusion.

Giovanni handed her the gifts he brought. "For you."

"Oh, uh, I'm the one that owes you." Maura set the gifts down on her desk and picked up Giovanni's car keys. "For letting me drive your Alfa."

"You can keep Julietta as long as you like."

"Oh, no, I-I couldn't. Um, actually, here you go." Maura handed him the keys.

Giovanni handed her a slip of paper in return. "Can you give my estimate to Mrs. Rizzoli? I'm just charging her for parts."

Jane was annoyed. "You know you could've just given that to me. Upstairs."

Giovanni completely ignored Jane's remark. Instead he said to Maura, "I want to take you out. Listen, you like Italian?"

"I love Italians." Maura's face went red and she glanced at Jane before correcting herself. "Italian. I love Italian food."

"Let me take you to dinner," Giovanni said.

Maura panicked. "Oh, uh, I... I can't think of a reason to say no."

"Gee, I can think of a million," Jane deadpanned.

Again, Giovanni ignored Jane. "Okay. I'll see you later then." He smiled and walked out of Maura's office.

Jane stepped closer to Maura. "You couldn't think of a single reason to say no? I'm standing right here."

"No one knows that we're dating," Maura replied. "I couldn't say no."

"Ugh I hate this. It was bad enough that he's been hitting on me for years but now he's taking my girlfriend out on a date."

Maura grabbed Jane's hands. "Nothing is going to happen, Jane. I love you."

...

Frost, Korsak, and Jane were in BRIC working late on their case when Maura walked in fresh off her date with Giovanni.

"Jane? Can we talk?" Maura asked. Jane just stared at her, so added, "In private?"

Jane took Maura to the break room and closed the door.

"What happened?" Jane asked.

"He wanted to lick my face," Maura replied, disgusted at the memory.

"Whoa! What?" Jane exclaimed. "He tried to lick you?"

"Obviously he didn't get that far. But he keeps texting and leaving messages. He put my picture up on his Facebook page."

Jane muttered, "Must be nice to share a picture of someone you love."

"You think he's in love with me?" Maura asked, concerned that she would never get rid of Giovanni.

"I don't know." Jane sat down heavily. "Candy, flowers, nice dinner. Seems like he really likes you. He really likes showing you off."

"Are you jealous?" Maura asked.

Jane scoffed. "No!"

"Why are you so jealous?"

"I'm not. I mean... maybe a little. He gets to bring you gifts and take you to dinner and I can't even hold your hand. He got to do all the things that I want to do. Well, not all the things. There are a couple things that only I get to do."

Maura stepped closer to Jane and positioned herself in between Jane's legs. She placed her hands on Jane's shoulders. "And those things are things that I cherish. I don't care about the gifts or the dinner. I care that you love me. And you do an amazing job of showing me that you love me." Maura brushed a strand of hair out of Jane's face. "And you don't try to lick my face."

Jane laughed. "I really wish I could kiss you right now."

"Makes it that much more special later," Maura whispered.

...

Jane and Maura showed up to the auto repair shop a few days later ready to get Angela's car out of there. All of their efforts to shake Giovanni loose had failed. They just wanted to be done with him.

"Hey! You're lookin' hot," Giovanni greeted Maura as they walked in.

"Look, I appreciate you working on my ma's car, all right? I am calling a tow truck, and I'm gonna take it from here." When Jane actually took a look at the car she exclaimed, "Oh, my God!"

"You like, huh?" Giovanni asked. "Perf'd the driver's seat, installed a cooler/heater setup."

"You added spinners," Maura commented, shocked.

"Racing stripe, too. Mrs. Rizz gonna drive in style. It's nice, huh? Just finished installing the water pump." Giovanni looked at Maura and asked, "Hey, you wanna take her for a spin, grab a meal?"

Maura's eyes went wide as she tried to think of a plan. "I – I" Then it occurred to her, "I think that we should just tell him. Don't you, babe?"

Jane caught on quickly. "Yes. Yes, I think we should, babe." Jane walked over and placed her arms around Maura's waist. She breathed in the scent of Maura's hair.

Giovanni asked, "Tell me what?"

"I really, truly enjoyed your company, but Jane and I - we're, um, um..." Maura couldn't seem to find the words.

Jane thought fuck it, and then said, "We're dating. Nobody knows. So when you asked her out, she panicked and said yes."

Giovanni contemplated their words for a minute. "Wait... so you two are batting for the other team."

Jane replied, "We are." Guess the cat was out of the bag now.

"Shoot," Giovanni said. "That meal cost me 20 bucks."

"I'll reimburse you, uh, for the meal," Maura offered. "And for the candy. And, um, how much for Angela's car?"

"Oh, babe," Jane whispered into Maura's ear.

"Nah, I mean, your ma was so good to me growing up. I can't charge her. Just tell her she can bring me some cookies." Giovanni began to walk away but turned back around. "Uh, that's too bad. I thought we were soul mates."

"Really?" Maura asked. "You really thought that we had a deep, natural affinity for each other? Really?"

Jane grabbed Maura's arm and led her to the car. "Come on, Maur, get in the car."

Then Giovanni said the worst thing imaginable. "You know, I've always wanted to try it with two girls."

Maura laughed. "No. No. No."

Jane started the car and pulled out of the garage. "You were jealous of that?" Maura asked.

"I just really love you, okay?"
