Chapter 2
Keith smacked his head into the window as the ship jolted. He looked around as Romelle also jerked awake, and Krolia just shifted slightly. Travis and Joshua came inside their cell.
"Get up! We're landing soon." Travis said. Joshua just glared at them, from around his bandaged nose and developing black eyes. As they were marched out, Keith looked out the window and his jaw dropped at what he saw.
It looked like a super-sized Roman Colosseum, with several building extending out from it like spokes on a wheel. Even over the ship's engine, he could hear the roar of the crowd. Keith gulped inwardly and nudged Krolia.
"I think I know what they are talking us doing." He whispered, then hissed in pain at a sharp jab to his side. He looked around at Travis, who was pulling back his weapon.
"Quiet." Travis said. Keith glared, but stayed silent as the ship docked into one of the buildings. They were marched out into another spacious room, this one full of similar looking beings as the ones that captured them. One was taller then the Leader and had stars on his shoulders. He looked at the Leader.
"At last, Ship 72 finally has some Players." The General said. The Leader saluted.
"Three for the Game, sir. A Galra, a Human, and an Altean. And a new animal for the menagerie." He said, dropping the salute. General walked up to Krolia, arms behind his back.
"The Galra have produced some excellent fights when we get one." He said, smiling amiably at her. Krolia just stared through him, not showing any emotion. General chuckled as he moved down the line, but his attention was drawn to Joshua.
"Private! What happened to your nose?" There was the sound of snickering as Travis answered.
"It was the Altean sir. She whacked him with her head because he was dumb enough to lean in." The guards started laughing outright. General chuckled.
"Not bad. But I think you'll find the players here are a tad smarter than your average guard." He said, turning Romelle's face this way and that to study her markings.
"I've only heard of your kind. It will be a record to see you fight. I suggest you put those smarts to good use." He said, letting go of her face and walking to Keith. He looked at him and clicked his tongue.
"A Human. Hardly ever heard of your species. This will be a season for the ages. Two new species to show." General said, waking away. He started addressing the room at large, turning on a big screen set in the wall.
"You are just in time. The Hammer is about to fight." All the guards started mummering as the screen showed the Arena at ground level. The stands were packed, with a little section for someone of great importance. One end of the ring was a large creature that was dressed in all black armor except for his head, which was bald and tan. The other end was another being that looked like a spider that learned to stand upright. He held knifes in each arm, while the other warrior held a huge battle hammer. As they all watched, a bell rang, and the spider warrior charged forward with a battle cry. The Hammer merely hefted his weapon, and just as the spider reached him, he brought it down on his head, and crushed it. The spider warrior collapsed; all legs splayed out. The crowd went nuts and the Hammer soaked it up. Keith felt his blood run cold. So this was what they were going to be doing? The General broke him out of his thoughts.
"Alright, take these three to the southwest sector. But first, give them the aptitude test." He said. With that, they were marched away from the room and deeper into the buildings.
