Chapter 14

Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon and Jessica caught a speeder taxi back to Senator Palpatine's Quarters.

Obi-Wan had decided to confront Jessica in the taxi.

"How in the galaxy do you know Master Yoda?" he had demanded.

Qui-Gon considered reprimanding him, but decided against it. He, too wanted to know the answer.

Jessica seemed to sense this. She glanced at him, but answered.

"As I said in the Council Chambers, Yoda and I go way back." She shook her head. "I met Yoda before he decided to join the Jedi Order."

Both Jedi stared at her in shock. "But… but that's impossible!" gasped Obi-Wan. Qui-Gon found himself agreeing. Yoda had been a Jedi Master for over 750 years.

"Nothing is impossible," Jessica told Obi-Wan, "especially where the Force is concerned."

Qui-Gon suppressed a smile. That sounded like something he would say.

Obi-Wan thought so, too. Both Qui-Gon and Jessica sensed it.

"Alright," he said. "So, how do you know Yoda?"

"All I'll say is: Yoda wasn't always a Jedi. You do realise he studied the Dark Side for a time, don't you?"

"Well…" Obi-Wan hesitated. "I've heard things…"

Jessica grinned. "Of course you have. I would have been surprised if you hadn't. Now, I shan't say another word about it. You try and figure it out."

Neither Jessica nor Obi-Wan spoke for the rest of the ride. After a few futile attempts at making conversation, Qui-Gon gave up and meditated.
