Well…it appears things will start getting very physical in the supernatural playground of Fujian.
Chapter 22
Before they destroy me
The events at Blessed Brew dominated the discussion taking place in Fahai's hotel room. The peculiar behavior of the sisters, topped off with the inadvertent slip of the tongue by Bai calling for Lu. Proved the expectations concerning the women of the medicinal shop to be valid. The calm and collective conversation between the two men paled to the borderline hysteria simmering at the Blessed Brew.
"Bai! Sister! They know." Xiaoqing wrung her hands as her appearance showed the strained skin of panic. The often seen expression of a light hearted and frivolous attitude toward life hid in the shadows.
"Bai, we are found out." Her tone screeched as a frightened kitten.
"They know nothing." The older of the two regained her strength after fainting into the arms of the mysterious stranger. Apologizing for such behavior, she sat on the folding chair from the backroom. After using the excuse of missing breakfast, she assured the two concerned men, rest and a good meal would be all that is needed. Their departure brought a swift return to character for the Immortal.
"That love sick teacher knows nothing."
"But the other one? The strange one?" Xiaoqing asked.
Turning toward the defiant Bai, the younger of the two stepped back. She whispered. "Lovesick, who?"
Bai's stature became rigid with a snarl growing on her face.
"Please, my precocious child. Li Tao cannot control his urges when even a scent of you is near."
"But. He cannot even look at me. I…" Xiaoqing glanced at the floor, her attempt to act coy halted with a stern reply.
"Enough! That dog of a man may not look at you but what's in his pants sticks out in your direction." Bits of saliva spout from the enraged Bai. A shake of her head sent waist length black hair thrashing about her as if she wished to flog the cowering image to her front.
"You fool; can you not see?" Bai's breasts heaved upward as she thundered her displeasure toward Xiaoqing. "That visitor from America. His mannerisms, his voice," the older sister took a deep breath, relaxing the intimidating expression. "When I fell into his arms…"
Before she could finish, Xiaoqing's frail tone forced out the question she feared to ask.
"And what was that? You fainted?" The younger sister paused to summon the strength to continue. "What happened to you?" A lower lip trembled interrupted by one last statement. "You called me Lu." The young sibling's breathing speeded to a rhythm of a drum solo. She held her hands to her cheeks. Xiaoqing's stature wavered.
"I have you." Bai engulfed her trembling sister, holding her close to her body.
"Your true name left my lips due to my minds swirling thoughts." She continued. "His name, or supposed name sent a hurricane through my sight."
"What do you mean?" Asked Xiaoqing. "Whose name?"
"Heng, Feng," she answered. "It is a play on words, their meaning is meant to disturb the transformed."
The young woman remained still listening in hopes of an explanation.
"Feng, a rising Phoenix," Bai's lip curled. "Heng, everlasting, eternal," her eyes widened as she spoke. "As our eternal, never ceasing enemies, that rise from the ashes of defeat." Her lips receded as she gritted her teeth. "His play on words is a warning to an Immortal."
Xiaoqing lifted her chin to gaze into the eyes of her Jie Jie. Black as pitch iris turned deeper in darkness. A shade of black no human could imagine. Arising in the younger girl's vision a massive white serpent coiled. A forked tongue whipping the air as if a streaking meteor in a moonless night vacant of stars.
"Calm thoughts, my precious Mei Mei." Bai whispered, as the silk blouse strained from her expanding back. "Look into the darkness. Swim, my precious into the blackness of my power." She controlled the transformation, it would not be good for a total regression to her true state.
Xiaoqing's eyes fluttered, as her breathing slowed. She lay limp in Bai's hold.
"I will take care of our new visitor." Another soft breath from the older sister brought these calming words to the distraught woman. "And you my dear," she flashed a smile to the oblivious Xiaoqing. "You will find much from the lovesick fool, Li Tao."
Bai moved to the mat in the back room. Easing her semi-conscious sister to the floor.
"Whatever, I can feel or sense or even using a spell to extract knowledge about our peculiar guest," she ran her slim fingers along Xiaoqing's peaceful cheek. "Is nothing compared to what a lovesick puppy will divulge to the woman he desires to fill." A slithering tongue washed over her lips. "And that teacher, my dear sister," a snort filled with humor filled the air. "That poor teacher wants you so bad he will do anything you wish."
An evil laugh circled the women.
One woman lying on the mat, her eyelids dancing over slight breaths, the other slowly returning from her partial transformation.
"Oh no," said Bai. She shook the remaining scales that had formed along her shoulders back to human skin. Her interruption did not arise from a knock on the door.
"My sweet, Angelo."
She expected him at the shop within minutes.
The Hotel Room Of Fahai
Fahai sat cross-legged on the dark brown carpet, his meeting with Tao concluded. He pondered the task to be fulfilled.
I have met the evil enemy. They show contempt for the natural order of things.
His eyes shut tight, unblemished pale skin rippled as a mist surrounded his body.
Yet, they quake and falter when confronted with a harbinger of their fate.
As the thickening mist swirled, Fahai's shoulders rose, as if dragged upward. Several feet in the air, this Yin xing fu wu qi pressed the index finger of his right hand to the curled thumb. Raising the left hand, a flexed palm pushed back on its wrist. The look of pain came not from the stress on his wrist, but the acceptance of magical gifts from the supernatural.
Buddha, I strive for Nirvana and will execute the duties these new powers demand.
The room filled with a dark cloud. Silent bolts of lightning shot through the air. The area surrounding Fahai began a whirlwind spinning the mediating holy man as a child's top. As Fahai's body spun faster, the hushed flashes stormed in unison toward the monk's chest. A cry of pain signaled their penetration.
In an instant, the mist dissipated. The invisible weapon of Buddha lay sprawled on the floor. The loud thump caught the attention of a passing housekeeper.
"Sir? Sir, are you ok?" A petite slip of a girl. Two black braids protruded from the side of her head. They ended just below her bony elbows. "I thought, I heard you cry out?"
Fahai scurried toward the door. Pressing both palms on the teak portal, he inhaled for the strength to speak.
"I'm quite alright. Thank you for your concern." He put one hand over a contorting mouth. Cheeks and eyebrows jostled against the other as muscles flexed and relaxed.
"Sir, are you in need of something?" The petite voice asked. She tapped her frail knuckles on the wooden door.
As his body slowed to slight tremors, he ran his finger through a clump of soaked hair. An effect from his infusion of stronger gifts. The young monk rested his cheek on the teak door.
"Just a clumsy banana." He hoped the term would bring humor into the situation, thus allowing the troubled young housekeeper to return to her duties.
The immortals must have realized who I am. They must be developing a strategy to erase this threat to their unholy existence.
The thought increased his distress.
I must attack first.
"I must destroy them." Whispered to the ceiling.
"Before they destroy me."
