"I'm not doing it."
"Come on! Please?"
"No."
"But Rae~"
"Drop it."
"You know he's not going to drop it," Robin finally cut in, the sheer amusement in his tone enough to brand him as a traitor in her eyes.
Beast Boy had been trying - and failing - to get Raven to join them in a game of truth or dare for nearly ten minutes now, a request she had continuously denied up until now, but he was persistent and her patience really was about to run dry.
For as long as she lived, Raven would never admit this out loud and considering her demonic heritage that would be a long time but, she really did love Beast Boy. For as much as Starfire was her sister and Cyborg her older brother, the changeling was the youngest child of the bunch, and not only by age. He was the exact person she'd envision when it came to the term 'little brother' so yes, Raven really was fond of him.
But by Azar was he an absolute pain in the ass.
"Just one game?" He pleaded, going as far as to wriggle himself between her and the kitchen counter to prevent her from completing her objective of making tea and getting the hell out of there and really, he must have a death wish. "Please? I promise I won't bother you for a week!"
Cyborg whistled. "That's about as good an offer as you're ever gonna get, dark girl."
Raven sighed, another one for the traitor list, then.
"It'll be fun?" Starfire offered.
Aaannddd strike three.
With another heavy sigh and a brief flick of her hand, Raven had Beast Boy levitating on the spot, effectively dragging him along with her as she went to join their circle of friends since it seemed there really was no chance of her getting out of this. He struggled at first, his protests nothing but pure whines and yelps of terrified surprise, but she ignored them, having decided that if she couldn't send him off to different dimensions anymore (Robin had banned her from doing so after she managed to lose him last time) the least she could do was scare him just a little.
That's what big sisters did, right?
She dropped him unceremoniously between Cyborg and Starfire, choosing not to acknowledge his muffled curses as she seated herself next to her grinning boyfriend and oh, she was coming for him later.
"One game," Raven stated, just to have it out in the open. "One game and then I'm out."
Robin smiled, gloved hand easily sliding up to brush a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "Don't be so quick to brush us off, Raven. Maybe you'll have fun, you never know."
Her only response was an indignant huff.
Well they've been going for more than one game now, but Raven would be a liar if she said she hadn't at least anticipated it.
She was currently staring at the ceiling, having resorted to lying on the floor with her head in Robin's lap and her legs idly kicking at nothing. She didn't have to worry about staying decent or anything like that, considering she'd gotten rid of her usual outfit about an hour into the game, swapping it out in favor of a pair of fluffy pajama pants and one of Robin's shirts. If she was going to be doing this, then she might as well get comfortable, right?
Cyborg spun the bottle while Robin idly toyed with her left hand, his attention equally divided between her and the game- like it had been for the past twenty minutes.
So when the bottle started slowing down in her direction and Raven very discreetly used her magic to keep it going, her leader was the first and only one to notice. He let her know as much by the disapproving look he shot her but stayed otherwise silent and if it wouldn't have blown her cover, she'd have laughed.
The offending item ended up landing on Beast Boy, and when it did, Cyborg's grin turned wicked.
"So Grass Stain," the man started, malicious intent coming off him in waves. Raven figured whatever he had in store for his best friend would only serve to humiliate him.
Not that he didn't deserve it. Beast Boy had wiped their console's hard drive a few days ago after all, including all of Cyborg's top scores.
"Truth or dare?"
Beast Boy, for his part, seemed to pick up on the danger just as quickly as Raven had. "Truth, I'm not letting you try anything, man."
"Fine," Cyborg grumbled. "Different approach. Who was your first kiss?"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Beast Boy instantly stiffened, his eyes shooting up towards the ceiling. "D-dare…"
Raven couldn't help but snort, knowing damn well what was going through his mind.
"No way, man!" Cyborg protested, either out of pure disbelief, or having caught on to his friend's blatant discomfort. "You actually kissed someone?"
"That's…" Beast Boy looked away. "That's none of your business…"
"It so is! Now you've definitely gotta tell us!"
"I said dare!"
"You said truth first!"
Starfire placed her hand on Beast Boy's shoulder in a way that was supposed to be comforting, and had it been any other person it probably would've worked, but sadly for him, their resident alien lacked complete tact in matters like these. "Might it have been friend Terra?" She asked.
"Wh-what?" Beast Boy pulled away from her touch, the green in his face turning comically pink. "No!"
"Terra would make the most sense…" Robin finally spoke up, much to Raven's surprise.
His words, however, only seemed to make things worse. The color rising to Beast Boy's cheeks intensified, as did his nerves and frankly, it was starting to give Raven a headache. "That's because it wasn't Terra! It was-" his lips clamped shut, catching himself in the nick of time. "Nobody…"
"Nuh-uh Grass Stain! Spill!"
Raven probably should put a stop to this. It was painstakingly obvious Beast Boy was less than comfortable with answering and he really shouldn't be forced to either way. Besides, the answer would bring a lot more trouble and unnecessary explanations along with it, and Raven just wanted to get this night over with.
"Just let him do the damn dare…" Raven groaned, the hand that wasn't held hostage by her boyfriend reaching for her temple. "We're just going to keep going in circles like this."
"Y-yeah!" Beast Boy locked eyes with her, looked away just as fast. "What she said!"
The agreement came in the form of disgruntled noises around the circle, the loudest of those obviously being Cyborg but he let it drop anyway and handed the bottle over to a very flustered, yet very relieved Beast Boy.
Robin lightly nudged her as the bottle fell on Starfire, his eyes curious as she looked up. "What was that?" He asked, voice soft.
"What was what?"
"The thing with Beast Boy."
"No idea what you're talking about," she denied flatly, her voice about as dry as could be. It obviously didn't work, Robin knew her too damn well to fall for a lie as half-assed as that one but Raven didn't really care. She'd keep their teammate's secret and help him out when needed, like right now, but that didn't mean she'd put effort into the act. It really wasn't that big of a deal anyway.
"Liar," Robin lightly tapped her nose, smiling when she pulled a face. "You know something."
"I do not."
"You-"
"Friend Raven! It is your turn!"
Both birds looked up at the call, their conversation abruptly cut short by that damning green bottle that, sure enough, was pointing straight at Raven.
The half-demon groaned internally, breaking away from Robin in order to sit up properly and take whatever would be thrown at her. She'd managed to avoid being the target of her teammates' questions through sheer luck and a little magic, and on the rare occasion that she did get caught, she'd always answered truth and the questions hadn't really been that bad so far.
Something told her, however, that this time would be different.
"On the topic of kisses…" Starfire started, after another 'truth' from Raven. "I am curious to know who your first kiss was."
The reaction this time around was a lot more dramatic than when Beast Boy had been asked. Robin instantly froze in place, right around the same time the green changeling had taken a sip of his soda and simultaneously choked on said soda the moment his sensitive ears picked up on the question.
Raven couldn't help but roll her eyes. Really, what was it with humans and their sensitivity about past encounters? Sure, she knew a lot more about Earth's customs than, say, Starfire, but this was just a thing she would never get. Why was it such a big deal? Who even cared?
Beast Boy wiped at his lips, apparently having caught on to her thought process and the sheer panic in his eyes was ridiculous. He leaned forwards, his cup lying forgotten beside him. "Raven-"
"Just remember that you're the one who kept insisting I play," she reminded him dryly
"Okay yes, but I don't think you should-"
"It's really not that big of a deal, Beast Boy."
"Are- are we missing something here…?" Cyborg asked, voicing the question Raven knew for a fact was going around all of their heads. Especially her boyfriend, who had been eerily quiet this entire time, but knowing him, he was already on his way to figuring it out himself so she might as well.
She would keep Beast Boy's secret, yes, but that didn't mean she had to keep her own secret.
Besides, she'd been directly asked. Not answering would just be suspicious.
"It was Beast Boy," Raven answered, and if she could sound more disinterested, she would have.
The room fell silent, the only response being the way Beast Boy hissed out her name in urgent embarrassment, covering his flushed face with his hand. Raven only shrugged.
It took a while, but when it finally clicked for the remaining three, all hell broke loose.
"What?!" Cyborg boomed in sheer disbelief.
"When?!" Starfire cried, in a way that was a lot less disbelieving and a lot more excited.
"Just for the record, it was way before you two became a thing!" Beast Boy hurried to tell Robin, his face aflame and his voice sounding much too high pitched to be healthy.
"Not by a long shot," Raven lazily picked at the fabric of her pants, the only one out of the group capable of keeping a straight face at the moment, considering her boyfriend had apparently frozen in place.
"Wait wait wait," Cyborg waved his hands. "How did that even happen?"
"Please tell us!" Starfire added.
"Uhm," Beast Boy tugged at his collar, obviously uncomfortable. "That's…"
"Curiosity," Raven lightly nudged Robin, but nope, no reaction. "It was more of an experiment than anything else, really. Turned out pretty good."
"Raven!" Beast Boy hissed, and really, he had to have reached max capacity of redness by now. If he wasn't careful, it might just permanently tint his skin.
"By Azar, it's not a big deal." Raven repeated, her hands reaching for her temples again. "I really don't see the issue here. It was a few months after the team had been established, we didn't know each other that well, neither of us had been kissed before and we were curious. That's it."
"And it never happened again after that!" Beast Boy added, looking like he wanted to disappear on the spot. Raven almost laughed. Call it her inner demon, but it was beyond amusing to see him squirm like that. Serves him right for dragging her into this mess.
"Makes sense," Robin said, finally having returned to the land of the living from...wherever the hell he'd disappeared to.
Raven didn't have any issue pointing that out either. "It lives," she stated dryly, around the same time Starfire echoed a "Friend Robin has returned!" in her classic innocent way and really, how could you not love her?
"But was he a good kisser though?" Cyborg asked, apparently not done with this topic and man, those highscores really must've meant a lot to him.
"Dude!" Beast Boy turned on him, right around the time Robin snuck a hand around Raven's waist and pulled her closer. So that's how he wanted to play it, huh?
"What?" Cyborg asked, his grin pure evil. "I'm just asking."
"Not that bad, to be honest." Raven answered bluntly, and just like expected, the hand around her waist tightened.
She snorted. Possessive brat.
"Raveeeennnn," Beast Boy whined, in a way that could only mean 'God take me now' and fine, maybe she was teasing him too much.
She snuggled into Robin, her head resting on his shoulder and like absolute clockwork, the hand around her hip started drawing circles on her clothed skin, placated by the subtle show of affection.
Raven lifted her hand, the green bottle laying forgotten in the center of the room encasing in black energy and hovering itself over towards her waiting hands. "It's my turn, isn't it?" Raven answered the questioning stares, the bottle returning to its previous state as soon as she made contact with it. "Or do you guys want to stop playing?"
The chorus of 'no' going around seemed like a solid enough answer, so when Raven spinned the bottle again, there wasn't a single protest. Not that she expected any. In fact, Beast Boy seemed entirely too pleased by the distraction.
"And let me just say it right now," Raven turned her glare on Robin. "If it lands on me again, questions about who was a better kisser are not allowed."
His face flushed. "I wasn't- I wasn't going to ask that!"
"Liar."
"I wasn't!"
"Fine then," the bottle stopped, oh so conveniently landing perfectly straight in Robin's direction. Raven smiled. "Truth or dare?"
"...dare."
This one was more of a team bonding than RobRae centered, but I thought it was fun to mix it up a bit!
