The rest of the week after Halloween seemed to pass in a blur. I was still trying to mentally deal with what happened with Ron and Hermione, but I couldn't deny I had a large support system to help me through it.
Ginny, Fleur, and Bill stayed until Thursday night, taking up my guest rooms, and catching me up more on the Wizarding World. The public was in outcry over Ron and Hermione being arrested, but once even a hint of the events that took place were spread, they were now just wanting the "trial of the century" to take place. I was dreading it. Still, it was nice to have my family from home here.
Bill and Emmett were the ones who ended up repairing my front door. Hermione had broken it when she had broken into my house and it had been splintered and hanging on barely by its hinges when I had come home. Bill also made sure to redo the wards on my house.
"You did a good job, but let me upgrade them a little. No one magical is going to be able to breathe on your property without your permission once I'm done."
The Cullen's were also at my house a lot of the time outside of school. I think having a second place to go, where there were other people in on the secret, helped a lot. Of course, Edward was always there. And at times it did feel a little stuffy. I was used to being alone and having to be independent. But he understood and was never offended when I told him to back off a little.
Someone I had grown quite close to was Esme. Throughout the week we would cook together either at the Cullen's house or my own. She was delighted to have people to cook for and we fell into an easy rhythm with each other. She always greeted me with a hug and a kiss on the side of the forehead and I quickly became addicted to the motherly affection she was willing to give. If mothering was a vampiric gift, that was definitely Esme's. Whenever we ate at my house we often invited Charlie over and the one time he couldn't make it, I made sure to leave some in his house. I too had a key now so I could come in and drop off something for him whenever I pleased.
I made sure to fall into the routine of taking my prosthetic off when I go to sleep. I do have to admit even in a few days time, the stiff feeling I often got in my arm was a lot better with the break. Never say the goblins don't know what they are talking about.
Edward was of course always there when I was asleep. His cooling temperature left me quite comfortable throughout the night. I didn't lie when I told him that my magic burned in me, so his cold temperature didn't bother me in the least. It was a relief. And having him with me, the soothing bond of being mates, kept the nightmares away. Now he had to coax me from the depths of sleep and he often did it with kisses. Neither of us hardly seemed to mind.
It was decided that since my friends from England left on Thursday that my human friends from school would come to my house after school on Friday just as promised. And with the permission of the parents they were all allowed to sleep over since we would be going to La Push on saturday to spend the day until the bonfire. Edward was still very against me going, so we compromised. He and Alice would also be involved with the sleepover at my house and then I would still go with my friends to La Push, but I would leave before the bonfire so I wasn't there at dark. Rosalie was actually the one to help push Edward to see things my way. She told him to realize that I was a powerful witch who was more than able to take care of some regular teenagers should things go south. And, if there was one to suddenly shift, I could easily escape. My human friends were excited because the forecast for Saturday predicted sunny skies. Probably the last of them as we got into the colder November weather.
So with all that in mind, after a tearful goodbye on Thursday night, it left me anxious and excited for Friday night to come. After school, Jessica, Mike, Angela, Eric, and Alice piled into mine and Edward's cars to get to my house. Lauren and Tyler ended up not being able to come. Tyler's dad wanted him to help him at their family's company while Lauren's mom insisted on having a girl's weekend in Seattle.
It was interesting to see how comfortable my human friends were becoming with the Cullen's. I think after one spends enough time with them, the vampiric allure wears off on someone. Much like Fleur's veela allure at Hogwarts after a certain amount of time. Jessica and Angela were only too happy to do manicures, pedicures, and face masks with Alice. Edward, Mike, and Eric were quick to start a gaming marathon on the new system that Emmett insisted I get. I was quite fond of Mario Kart once I got the basics of it. It helped that the left hand really didn't need to do much in terms of the games I played when the Cullen's were around.
After a quick consensus by everyone it was decided that we order pizza. So once I placed the order I decided to join the girls in some much needed self care. Alice had brought a premade face mask made of aloe vera and raw honey.
"It's to hydrate and reduce redness or irritation. If you are going to the beach tomorrow, you need to make sure you don't dry out." she had said.
"Only the boys are probably going into the water, Alice. It's like 50 degrees so me and Angela won't. I don't know about Dahlia." Jessica teased as she applied some pale pink nail polish to her right hand.
"I don't know, I've swam in colder. I might at least get my feet wet." I said.
"Alright Dahlia!" Mike cheered, not even looking at us as he and Edward were facing off on the rainbow road in Mario Kart.
"Will the prosthetic be ok?" Angela asked, a little hesitantly. I nodded.
"Yeah. It's made of all materials that wouldn't be affected by water. But I will probably still wear some type of wetsuit if I go in the water." I explained.
"Dahlia do you want me doing just your toes?" Alice asked. Huh that was a good question.
"Yeah. That might be best for now." I said after a moment.
"Amazing. What is the color of your swimsuit…and your wetsuit. Color coordination is key." Alice said very seriously.
"I don't know how much color coordination I need, Alice. My swimsuit is purple, and my wet suit is black with gray accents."
"Oh lovely!" Alice said before digging around in her manicure bag.
"Ohh what about this purple Alice?" Angela said, reaching down for a nice aubergine. Alice gasped in delight.
"Angela such good taste! And I have a light grey that would go perfectly as an accent!" Alice praised. Angela's beaming smile was all the proof I needed for how well everyone was getting along.
"Son of a bitch!" Eric shouted at the TV.
"You really gonna blue shell me like that bro!" he said, leaning to Mike across from Edward.
"Don't hate the player, hate the game!" Mike responded, leaning into a turn. Edward's booming laugh was the only response he could give. Merlin only knows what the other two boys' thoughts were.
Alice was quick to paint my toenails purple and the gray was carefully put over top in a scalloped outline pattern.
"It's like a mermaid!" she cooed. Once everyone was done with their nails it was time to wash off the face mask. I was in the middle of drying my face when the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!" Jessica said, walking over to the door.
"Domino's Pizza!" the guy at the door announced.
"Oh my god I am starving!" Jessica gushed, leaning against the door. She started looking around.
"Dahlia, where's the money?" she asked, turning to me at the counter.
"I forgot to bring it over there." I said, reaching around the counter and coming over with the money. We had all pitched in for the five pizzas we ended up getting. And breadsticks. As Mike told us, "You can't forget the breadsticks."
"Here you go. Keep the change." I said, handing it to him with a polite smile.
"Wow, girl's slumber party huh? Want some company?" he said, with a pathetic attempt at a flirty smile. He was conventionally attractive, sure, but looked way over 18.
Before I could even say anything, I saw the boys quickly get up from their spot and come toward us. Mike wrapped an arm around Jessica while Edward came up from behind me. He pressed a hard kiss to the side of my head and I couldn't stop the blush coming from my face at the action.
"Believe me big boy they got plenty of company." Mike said, giving the man a hard stare.
"Let me take that for you." Edward said, polite but the biting way he said it made his intention very clear. The pizza man paled before quickly shoving the food into Edward's arms and hurrying to his car.
I quickly shut the door before the girls burst out laughing. The boys not so much. Erich huffed and took the pizzas away from Edward to the kitchen. Edward looked ready to hunt the man down.
"Ohh Edward. Thank you for protecting me." I gushed, reaching out and making him kiss me. After a moment he kissed me back, cupping my cheek. We kept it PG since the others were still here. When we pulled away after a moment he looked significantly calmer.
"You know that was pretty hot." I whispered. I saw the hunger flash in his eyes but I twirled out of his grasp to go back to the kitchen. Alice looked entirely too amused at us.
I distracted the others enough to not notice Edward and Alice not eating the food on their plates before throwing it away.
After eating we decided to start watching the dvd's we had rented. Jessica and Angela managed to convince Mike and Eric to have us watch the movie Love Actually. To be able to watch that movie, the boys wanted us to watch Pirates of the Caribbean that had come out last year. All the girls were fine with that because it had Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp. Then we watched Mean Girls. It had come out earlier this year and since it had just come out on DVD the girls were dying to watch it. There was enough comedy to satisfy the boys.
Edward and Alice hadn't really cared about what movies to watch but seemed entertained regardless.
After that we stayed up late making cookies. Everyone pitched in while we just had late night TV running as background noise. Alice pretended to fall asleep on the couch and that seemed the cue for everyone to go to bed. I let Angela and Jessica have the other room on the second floor while Mike and Eric shared the one on the first floor.
"Wait, where's Edward sleeping?" Eric asked innocently. I blushed as everyone turned their attention to the two of us. I saw Alice fighting a smile on the couch.
"My man." Mike said, impressed, slapping Edward lightly on the shoulder.
"Just to sleep you guys!" I said, mortified they all might have thought we would do that with all of them in the house.
Once everyone was settled and in bed it allowed me and Edward a little alone time. I was wrapped in his arms in my bed, practically on top of him.
"Tonight was fun." I said, happily. I was slowly getting sleepier now that I was in my room with him. I always felt so safe and able to relax with him.
"It was. Actually. I recognise the dampening now when I'm only around a small group of humans." he said.
"Yeah. I can't do it in large groups without including me. But since it was only the gang I could focus it on them and not have me be a part of it." I explained.
"Good. I miss it when I can't smell your scent." Edward said, burying his head into my neck to further prove it.
I slept throughout the night and woke up to everyone's noises from down below. The sun was shining into my room so I placed a dimming spell on the windows so the vampires wouldn't be affected by the sun. I kicked Edward out to change into my clothes for the day. I was planning on going into the water so I put on my high waisted bikini and the wetsuit. It wasn't full length. It had shorts and three quarter sleeves so it went past my elbow. I decided on jeans and was contemplating a shirt when Edward knocked on the door.
"Come in!" I said. Edward walked in and closed the door a little too loudly when he saw me. I looked down at myself confused. The only thing that stood out to me was that I hadn't zipped up the wet suit all the way so you could see the top of the bikini. I gave Edward a coy smile when I realized it was because he was affected by me.
"Like what you see?" I teased.
He flashed over to me and picked me up in his arms. My laugh was drowned out by the heated kisses he placed on me. I couldn't help the small moan that escaped me when his arms tightened around me. My legs were wrapped around him. The kisses were hot and heavy and soon enough he was placing open mouth kisses on my neck. My hands were clenched into his hair, not even caring that the others were downstairs waiting for me.
I moaned a little louder when those kisses got a little harder and it wasn't long before I realized he was making a mark on my neck.
"Edward." I whimpered, making him purr into me. I loved when he did that. The vibrations that came from his chest made me want to be boneless in his arms. He stopped after another moment, not breathing. I bet he was just as flustered as I was.
When he finally set me down he had way too much of a satisfied smirk on his face.
Now that I was back to my senses I quickly rushed over to my mirror to see if he really did leave a mark. And there it was right on the side of my neck, a darkening hickey.
"Oh my Merlin Edward" I groaned.
He looked a little sheepish then but then wrapped his arms around me despite my grumblings.
"I know that I need to show patience and trust with La Push. And I absolutely trust you with your friends, but there's a part of me that needs this. And I am trying not to bury my instincts when it comes to the bond because I know you don't like that. I'm trying to be open and honest and I just needed some type of visual assurance before I sent you to the literal wolf's den." Edward opened up to me.
Men. I sighed before wrapping him up in a hug.
"I get it. But you also have to understand you've just unleashed endless cannon fodder for the boys and Alice to tease us all day." I said, laughing at his own realization.
"Now I need to find a shirt." I said, pushing him away.
Getting a now brilliant idea I walked over to his overnight bag and pulled out the gray henley he wore last night. It didn't smell dirty, it only smelled like him. He was wide-eyed as he watched me tug it on.
"What? It's comfortable and smells like you." I said, walking over and giving him another kiss.
"I love you." he murmured after we pulled away. I smiled up at him.
"Good. Because I love you too." I said. I finished putting everything I needed into a drawstring bag and spelled my hair into a fishtail braid. It let the hickey be out in the open, but there wasn't a chance I could do a braid in front of the others when we got to La Push so I would have to live with it.
When we got downstairs everyone quickly saw the hickey and the boys started teasing the two of us mercilessly. I only blushed and ignored the comments as I prepared a quick breakfast for everyone before we headed out.
"Are you sure you guys don't want to come to La Push? It's been so much fun hanging out" Jessica asked as we all got ready to leave my house.
"You are too sweet. But we really aren't beach people. And I want to sort Dahlia's closet before we leave so you guys can go ahead without us." Alice said.
We all said our goodbyes and I told the four teenagers to wait by Edward's car. He was being kind enough and trusting enough to let me take his Volvo since my car wouldn't fit everyone.
"I'll see you tonight ok?" I said, looking up to Edward. Alice was already in my room, no doubt already buried in my closet. Edward looked hesitant but not unwilling to let me go.
"Tonight." he confirmed with an attempt of a smile. We said our 'i love you's' and gave each other a couple more quick kisses before I raced out to Jessica honking his horn from the passenger seat.
"Come on love bird we need to get there while the sun is still up!" Jessica teased as I got in. We all laughed as I started the car and began driving away.
"Man Edward's car is so nice! But like his dad's a doctor so duh." Mike said, relaxing in his seat.
"You two are so good together." Angela gushed. I couldn't help the small smile on my face.
"Yeah we are. He's the first boyfriend I've ever had and so far it's pretty amazing." I said. The girls all cooed while the boys pretended to throw up.
First and only. But I would keep that to myself.
"Is Coach Beeks still trying to get you to try out for football Mike?" Eric asked him as we drove.
Mike groaned.
"Yeah. And like I get it they need my muscles, but football ain't my thing man. I'm a basketball player. Coach Taylor thinks I'm good enough to get a scholarship maybe and I can't risk any of that with a football injury." Mike explained.
"Hey Edward's brother is huge! Maybe they can get him to play!" Mike said, looking at me.
Uh oh.
"Umm…I don't know if Emmett is really interested in sports all that much. But I'll be sure to ask him about it, ok?" I offered.
I knew he wouldn't be able to. Which was a shame because Emmett was obsessed with sports.
"Have you thought about getting into sports again Dahlia? I bet the soccer team would love to have you?" Jessica asked.
Huh. I never really thought about getting into sports. Quidditch was amazing and I loved every moment of it, but I couldn't do it here. And I bet one of the boys could teach me about soccer if I wanted to do it.
"I'm not sure exactly. It all kind of hinges on the one year mark and how my recovery will have been going." I explained. They all took it easy enough.
We small talked the rest of the way, Jessica pointing me in the right direction until we got to the reservation. I felt the magic of the land and of the spirit warriors in the air. It was like I could taste it.
We pulled up to a designated parking area for the beach and everyone quickly piled out. There were a couple of groups from Forks here, taking advantage of the great weather, but it was mostly natives on the beach and even then it would hardly be considered crowded.
We found a spot to put our stuff and our towels that was right about in the middle of the beach.
"Alright ladies. Me and Eric are gonna be doing some serious boogie boarding if you want to join. We brought extras!" Mike proposed, holding up the bag of 3 or 4 small looking boards.
"I'm not swimming in November Mike. I tan." Jessica said, already laying back in a coral bikini. Angela sheepishly brought out a book to read while she tanned. She was in a navy blue one piece and Erik's eyes kept shifting over to her.
"I don't know how." I answered honestly. I didn't even know if I could do it with my prosthetic.
"Well I can show you! And we won't go out too deep ok?" Mike promised, a hopeful look on his face.
"Ok Mike, you convinced me." I said. He cheered while I finally took off the rest of my clothes to show I was already in a wetsuit.
"God Dahlia I would kill to look like that!" Jessica said from her spot. I gave her a wink which sent her into a fit of laughter along with Angela. The boys were also in wetsuits, but they were full length.
"My lady." Mike jokingly said, offering me a purple boogie board. I stared at it for a moment. It was different from the others. While the others had their cuffs on the left side of the boards, the purple one had its cuff on the right. And it had been modified, you could see the marks from where it had originally been.
"My dad had the supplies so I rigged it a little differently." Mike confessed.
"Thanks buddy." I said with a wide smile.
"Last one to the water is a rotten egg!" Eric shouted before running to the shore line. We raced off after them, myself quickly overtaking the two before I threw myself in the water.
It was cold but it was welcome. The salt of the water burned a little in my eyes, but that was ok. I was only lucky that I managed to remember to leave my glasses at home and wear my rarely used contacts. Of course they were a little enhanced with magic so they could be in water like this and still be used.
I broke free from the water soaked to the bone. Mike and Eric were laughing and roasting each other. Eric had tripped Mike so he would be the last one in.
Mike quickly started his boogie boarding lesson.
"Alright D. We picked a good day to come because the water's not too crazy today."
It wasn't too terrible. I wiped out a lot, but it was so much fun. We rode waves for about an hour and a half before the girls were calling us over. I was just getting out of the water when all of a sudden Mike came and threw me into the air over his shoulder. I shrieked as he ran, poor Erik having to take all our boards.
"Put me down Mike!" I said although it wasn't very serious because I was laughing too hard.
He set me down by the girls and we all crowded on the towels while we ate sandwiches I had made for today.
"God Dahlia you're like the best cook ever." Mike said around a mouthful of food.
"You are so gross Mike." Jessica said, giving him a disgusted look when he showed her his mouth full of food.
It was at that moment that the warning bells went off in my end. Following my instincts, my left arm went up and behind Eric's head. Good thing too because just as I did, a football collided with my arm. The vibrations from the hit felt odd, but otherwise I was ok. I wouldn't have been able to say the same of Eric's head if it had hit him.
"Holy shit!" was the collective response of my friend's. We turned and saw three native boys running towards, all with apologetic expressions.
"Hey guys we are so freaking sorry. Butterfingers over here let the ball slip from his fingers." The looks to be leader said, pushing against one of the others.
"It's cool Jacob. Lucky I had Dahlia see it coming." Eric said, calmer now.
"Well hey there." the third one said, looking at the three of us girls. Jacob, as he was now named, slapped him upside the head this time.
They were all in cargo shorts and t-shirts and their hair was long and let down. They were all barefoot too. I could sense spirit warrior magic in all three of them. They would all become shifters eventually, I could tell, especially with the Cullen's here. I felt a little pity for them. They had no idea what would be in store for them.
"Don't pay any attention to Quil." Jacob said to everyone, making them laugh.
"Oh shit D you wouldn't know. D this is Jacob Black, Embry Call, and Quill Attera. Guys this is our friend Dahlia Black. She's from England." Mike introduced me.
"Hello there." I said, waving politely. So Jacob was in the line of Chief's. Good to know.
"Woah you got the accent and everything!" Embry said, super excited.
"The ball didn't hurt your arm too bad did it?" Jacob asked concerned. I shrugged my shoulders.
"No more than usual." I told him. That's when the three boys noticed the arm that had blocked it was a prosthetic. The wetsuit hid most of it, but you could still tell from the wrist and fingers. Embry and Quil went wide-eyed, but Jacob just seemed to take notice of it before giving me an understanding smile and nodding.
Oh right! His dad was in a wheelchair. He would know all about disabilities.
"Well either way, that was an impressive block." Jacob said.
"That's Dahlia for you." Jessica said.
"Are you guys here enjoying the good weather like the rest of us?" Embry asked.
"Yeah. We're going up to the bonfire tonight too. Well most of us. Dahlia's heading back to her place once it gets dark." Mike explained.
I didn't feel too bad. Mike got the text this morning that Tyler was able to go to the bonfire, so he would be able to drop everyone off afterwards. The benefits to a small town.
"Aww you're missing out. Bonfires are a lot of fun here. And the driftwood makes the flames turn into all different colors." Jacob said, trying to change my mind.
"Maybe another time. My boyfriend is taking me out to dinner tonight so that's why I'll be heading back early." I explained.
Actually he was going to be picking me up so I could go to the Cullen's house. Esme was in the mood to make Chinese.
"Lucky dude." Embry said. The three boys chatted with Mike and Eric some more while I chatted with Jessica and Angela. After a while they left, probably to go play more football in an emptier part of the beach.
Once we were done eating and we let the food settle the boys wanted to go back in the water. I was tired from what we had done already, this being the most physical activity I had done since the battle. So instead, I decided to join the girls in walking the shore line and looking for shells.
"This is just what we needed I think." Jessica said, a serious look on her face.
"Yeah I would say so too." I agreed. She turned to me and made the three of us stop.
"I know we haven't really talked about it. But I want to. Watching you stand up to your friend…was like the scariest thing I had ever seen. I used to think I had such big problems in my life, but like…you had to go through so much. You both did, and like you obviously handled it way better despite everything, and…I just…I am so happy to be your friend Dahlia. Because I know that friendship with you is something to be treasured and valued and never taken for granted. And I promise I will never take you for granted ok." Jessica spoke to me. I couldn't hide the stray tear that fell at the end of her words.
She pulled me tightly into a hug, Angela following her. Angela promised just like she did, and it only made me hold on tighter. I was so grateful for the gang. These four were some of the truest friends I could ever ask for. And I too would not take them for granted.
When we pulled apart we went back to finding more shells. I had found a particularly pretty sand dollar when I felt that same warning bell go off in my head. You've got to be shitting me. Before anyone could blink, I wrapped myself around Angela's back just in time for a football to collide with the lower left side of my body. And this time it hurt like a bitch.
"Fuck!" I yelled out as my legs gave out on themselves. I nearly brought down Angela with me. My side felt like it was on fucking fire. White hot blinding pain seemed to pulse on my body and I tried to stop from moving too much and only making it worse. The scars on my hip were the deepest ones besides my arm and so it was absolutely unpleasant.
"Dahlia!" Jessica and Angela cried out, helping me down gently to the sand. My whole body kept up that continuance pulsing feeling. My leg wanted to jerk but I held back the urge knowing it would only hurt worse. But Merlin it hurt so bad already. I only let the grimace on my face show, trying to take deep breaths to get myself under control.
Our cries not only brought the perpetrators, but Mike and Eric too.
"Yo dude what the fuck? Is this the only place in La Push to play fucking football?" Mike yelled.
"Hey man, we're sorry. We didn't mean to hit your friend." A deeper voice said from behind me.
"Mike lay off." I called to him, turning my head as best as I could to see the five of them. Once again another set of three native boys were there. Only this time they were a little older, probably around 17 and 18. They looked beefier than Jacob and his friends. And they all three had the spirit magic in them. Lots of potential shifters. Edward is going to blow a gasket.
Mike ran over and helped the girls get me into a proper sitting position.
"Where'd you get hit D?" he asked, ignoring the boys as now Jessica had decided to lay into them.
"My left side." I said. The pulsing feeling was still there, but it was slowly fading away. Mike slowly helped me get up and it hurt like a troll but I would live. I turned to see Jessica still yelling at the boys. One looked chastised while one looked more amused at her. The third looked annoyed. And I did not need him to be annoyed at a very fragile human Jessica.
I slowly walked over and grabbed Jessica by the arm.
"Jess, it's alright. I'll walk it off." I told her. She glared more at the boys, but it seems her tirade was over.
"We are really sorry for hitting you. I didn't realize Paul wasn't looking at me when I threw the ball and it sailed right past him and into you." the one dude who looked sorry said.
"It's fine. I've had worse. We are all fine." I said, directing that last statement to my friends.
"Jared's got a mean pass, are you sure you're ok?" The oldest looking one asked. He was the one I had heard before when Mike was yelling at them.
"I'm fine. I've had worse." I said. But the grimace on my face as it flared up again must have shown quite terribly because Jessica demanded I go sit down by the stuff. Mike helped me across the beach and back over to our stuff, helping me get down gently. The three boys had followed us.
"Should I call Edward?" Angela asked, worried.
"No not yet. He'll just go mental. Once I feel good enough to drive I'll just head out and call him then." I said.
More than likely if I called him he might just break the treaty to come get me. And I certainly didn't want that to happen.
"I'm so so sorry." Jared apologized again, but I waved it off.
"It's not like you meant to. It's ok. I have an old injury I'm still recovering from. I'm made of hardy stuff." I said.
And that's when these three noticed my left arm. If anything Jared looked even more guilty while the other two looked like they didn't know what to say.
"Jacob and his buddies were playing football and nearly hit me if Dahlia hadn't blocked it. That's why everyone's a bit upset that it happened again." Eric explained to the boys.
"Just call me the resident La Push football magnet." I joked. That seemed to make everyone ease up a little better.
"I'm Sam. And that's Jared and Paul." The oldest finally introduced himself.
"Dahlia Black." I said back and let the others introduce themselves.
"You related to Billy and Jacob?" Sam asked curiously. I shook my head.
"No. At least I don't think so. It's kind of an old name in England." I said. I truly didn't know if the Blacks could be related to the Quillettes. I would definitely have to ask Andromeda when I write to her next.
I let the others talk to each other while I focused on the three in front of me. Out of the three, Sam gave the strongest essence of the spirit warrior magic. He was going to be the first I think.
"You her boyfriend Mike?" Paul asked out of the blue, pointing to me. Poor Mike looked shocked.
"Me? Dahlia's like my sister! No way dude." Mike denied, and I noticed the quick glance at Jessica. Adorable.
"Dahlia's boyfriend is Edward. He couldn't come today." Angela supplied them.
"He a Forks native?" Paul asked.
"No he and his family moved to Forks the same time Dahlia did." Mike said, taking a bite out of an extra sandwich.
"You don't mean the Cullens do you?" Sam asked. The three suddenly tense.
"Yeah why? You got a problem with our friends?" Good old Mike on the defensive.
"And on that note, I am heading out you guys!" I broke the conversation. That broke everyone out of the tense moment that was about to happen. The girls helped me gather my things while Mike helped me put them in Edward's car. I didn't even bother trying to put my clothes on over my wet suit. Edward wouldn't care about having to clean his car.
Wherever Sam, Paul, and Jared went, I frankly didn't care.
I got in the car and after saying goodbye to everyone raced out of the reservation as fast as I could. Once I knew I was back in Forks I parked on the side of the road. I cursed again as my body flared up. Merlin just when I made so much progress, something like this happens. Logically I knew I would be fine in the next few days, even when I put on my cream tonight it would feel so much better, but damn it hurt so much. I grasped for my phone in the cup holder and quickly dialed one on my speed dial.
"Dahlia you've left so soon? Is everything ok?" Edward's concerned voice filled my ear. It was like music. I took a deep breath, finally not so much on edge around everyone.
"Something happened." I said, leaning back. He snarled into the phone and I heard the other Cullen's shouting about what could have happened. It made me smile.
"Nothing shifter related. We were walking on the beach collecting seashells when a stray football was thrown towards us. I reacted on instinct and placed myself in front of Angela before it hit her. It hit me on my burn side…it still hurts." I whimpered out at the end.
"I'll be there in seconds Lia." he said before hanging up the phone. In not even ten seconds, the driver side door was opening and my vision was full of Edward.
"Hi." I said, giving a soft smile. I sighed in relief when his hand laid on the spot, the cool seeping in to soothe.
"Do we need to take you to the hospital?" Edward asked. I laughed.
"No nothing like that. Just take me to your home. A day's rest with you and I'll be right as rain." I said.
He took a minute to think before pressing a kiss to my lips. It lasted a few seconds before he pulled away and kissed my forehead.
"Ok baby. Let me get you in the passenger side and I'll take us home." he said. I was very pleased with how well he was taking everything. And even if my side hurt like a bitch, I was looking forward to being pampered by nurse Edward.
I have a very good mate.
