Ok
Danny had officially seen everything.
After Kitty had taken him to Xavier's institute and explained everything to Professor Xavier, another teacher, a grumbly looking guy dressed like a biker that Danny wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley named Logan and her boyfriend Danny Pryde
That part was still weird to Danny seeing a version of him with Kitty's brown hair and his mom's eyes wearing an Air Force jacket over a blue tee shirt with jeans and sneakers.
That was weird, but that was nothing compared to the witch Kitty had recruited.
Five minutes ago, Kitty had gone up to the girl's dorms and returned with the last person Danny would have ever thought would be practicing magic.
Katie Kaboom
The Katie in this world didn't look too different than the one back home. Her hair was tied back in a ponytail wearing jeans, olive green sneakers, and a blue hoodie.
Now Danny was standing on the mansions back lawn standing next to his mutant doppelgänger and a halfa Kitty Pryde as the doppelgänger of his most terrifying blind date Katie Kaboom was making circles with buckets of sand muttering the same words in Chinese over and over again " Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao"
"So this is how we'll catch a genie weatherman," Danny asked skeptically, "with sand and a sentence in Chinese."
Danny Pryde shrugged "you don't deal with magic a lot, do you."
"I've been on dates with two witches, a fairy, and I nearly got wasted after traveling to the Salem Witch trials," Danny listed off, "so yeah, I've got some experience with magic."
"Not as much as I do," Katie said, walking over to the two Dannys and Kitty moving past them she pulled a blowfish out of a gym bag and an incense stick lighting the stick she used it to light the sand on fire "this Roker guy is playing with fire and frankly so are we"
"How so, Katie" Professor Xavier asked curiously.
"Magic," Katie explained, "all magic comes from the same place. Legerdemain what's different is methods used to draw the power so the caster can perform the magic."
Danny understood Katie's metaphor. It was like someone knowing one language over another "what happens if someone knows more than one way to use magic."
Katie shook her head.
"Magic isn't like learning French or Spanish learning more than one method of magic is extremely difficult, and if you do it wrong, bad things can happen VERY bad things."
"How bad are we talking," Danny asked, unsure that he wanted to know.
"Bad like Atlantis sinking bad," Katie answered.
By Professor Xavier, Danny heard Logan growl "this is why I hate magic," he muttered.
"Honestly, Logan, I feel that way a few dozen times a day," Katie said, holding her blowfish over the fire. Then, finally, the fish and the fire began to glow green so did Katie's eyes, like when she was about to transform.
Danny flinched. He and his Katie might be friends now, but still, he remembered the unstoppable monster he fought on their blind date.
Kitty noticed "hey, don't worry, Katie has her powers under control," she whispered.
"Yeah, thanks to the Professor and his mahjong buddy in San Francisco," Danny added quietly, "but yeah, I get why you're freaked. Katie uncontrolled was terrifying ripped apart a subway like it was made of the paper first day I met her thank goodness I told her about the institute when she calmed down."
Danny resisted the urge to facepalm as he realized he could have avoided what happened at the carnival completely if he had done what Danny Pryde had done.
"Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao," Katie chanted, "Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao" the fire glowed even brighter before an orb appeared in the middle trapped inside of it was a familiar face.
"Well, this is a surprise," Al Roker said, surprised-looking around his prison "what are the odds of you running into a Chi Wizard in this day and age."
"Mr. Roker," Professor Xavier said politely, wheeling, "under normal circumstances, I would never have one of my students mystically incarcerate a member of the NBC news team."
"However, you're a mystical pain in the rear, and you're going to quit messing with the flip-flopped version of the half-pint before you do something really stupid," Logan threatened, razor-sharp claws shooting out from between his knuckles to Danny's surprise.
'Memo to me,' Danny thought 'if I meet this guy when I get home, avoid ticking him off.'
Al Roker didn't look the least bit threatened. "Wolverine, my someone seems upset. What happened? Did you get thrown through the air by a twelve-year-old again" he asked, "or oh no, from the lingering magic coming off you you've had business with John Constantine"
Danny didn't know who that was, but it made Logan growl again.
Roker fell back, sitting in the air like a recliner "can't say I blame you. Constantine can be a headache for even the most level-headed people to say nothing of battle-prone hothead like you."
Logan looked ready to charge, but Katie held him back by putting an arm out "don't do it, Logan. He's baiting you, so you'll cross the magic circle and let him out," Katie explained. Logan stepped back, nodding to Katie. "Thanks, kid."
Katie nodded. "I know your type. You're a wish granter, which means you make deals," she said, "look, your old deal isn't doing you any favors, so why don't you renegotiate."
Al Roker raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "I'm listening."
"You stop interfering with Danny Fenton. Instead, find his true love Penny Proud and take her home to earth 20, and in return, we let you out."
Roker nodded "oh, I like you. Uncle might have taught you magic but not really anything about business. So what's in it for me" Roker asked, "if Penny Proud goes home, my powers get weakened again after that botched deal where I aged up her little siblings."
"Because everyone loved Bebe and Cece but treated Penny like she was nothing" Danny couldn't help but comment, "how was that a good thing for Penny."
Roker shrugged "not my best work, I'll admit, but love is a tricky thing to mess with forgot to convert the love and attention a baby needed into the love a pair of fourteen-year-olds needed though that football coach I didn't do. A thing to his prejudiced mind."
Ok, that explained why that happened, so if Roker hadn't rushed through his magic, Penny might have been happy with her accidental wish, and Roker wouldn't be bothering him now.
Wait for a second, that's it.
Danny suddenly had an idea "you know, Al," Danny said, "if you think about it, there's a way we can both win."
Roker seemed curious "how so."
"Your powers are weakened because you didn't make Penny happy with the Bebe and Cece wish but wouldn't Penny reuniting with her true love make her happy," Danny asked, "and if you helped, then I bet your bosses would notice and let you have your full powers again."
Roker seemed to be thinking about this too "you know you might be on to something," he said "you know, kid, if the astronaut thing doesn't pan out, you could have a great career in business," Roker snapped his fingers, and Danny's chronosapian compass appears in his hands.
"They're completely free of magical interference. I even detained Dark Deadpool and transferred my contingency for Vlad to you."
What contingency
"Now, before you ask, I don't trust Vlad anymore than you do, so when I made a deal with him and his sons, I added a contingency clause if they tried to betray me, their powers would be gone. So you have to beat them, and they'll be ordinary regular humans easily arrested and imprisoned somewhere for the rest of their lives."
Wait, so if Danny beat Vlad, that meant he'd never have to worry about Vlad hurting his friends or his family.
"Now this has been fun, but it's almost time for the 5:00 news, so bye now," Roker said, disappearing Katie's magic ritual disappearing.
"How did he do that" Kitty asked
"He was very powerful. I doubt I could have held him for much longer," Katie explained, sitting on the ground exhausted. "I feel like I just did a level 10 training session in the danger room."
Logan helped Katie to her feet "you did good work, kid."
"Indeed, Katie, you were able to hold Mr. Roker long enough for Danny to make a favorable deal," the Professor added "well done."
Danny nodded gratefully "they're right, Katie. Thank you so much; I owe you big time for this."
The compass in his hand glowed and beeped before it opened a portal. "Penny Proud detected," the compass said
Danny looked at the portal "here goes nothing," he said. Danny looked back to everyone on the lawn "thank you," he said as sincerely as possible, "I won't ever be able to pay you guys back for this"
Kitty shrugged "hey, we Fenton's have to stick together," she told him, "you don't owe me anything."
"Nor any of us," the Professor added.
"Yeah, so what are you waiting for, Danny? Go save your girl," Danny Pryde said
Logan nodded a smile on his face for the first time since he met the guy.
A small one but still a smile
Danny nodded, looking back at the portal he leaped through.
