I've talked about my love of anime, but there were very few I ever connected with. You already know about Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball and Inuyasha; but I had a hard crush on the OT4 from YuYu Hakusho. There was just something about Yusuke and his attitude that was just infectious. Kuwabara just cracked me up to the point of tears. Hiei… well, he's just Hiei. Can't help but smile at all of his comebacks, man. Then, there's my crush. Kurama… OMG! I mean, come on. What's not to love about him? So, of course I want to write a story dedicated to them. This is a crossover between YuYu Hakusho and Inuyasha. Hope you like it.
Disclaimer: I do not own YuYu Hakusho or Inuyasha or any of their characters. I do, however, own any OCs created and the story written.
A/N I know the series start with Yusuke as 14, but I wanted him as the same age as Kagome. According to time lines that I've found that depicts the series of Inuyasha, it was about a year, give or take, from the time Kagome fell into the well to the defeat of Naraku. That would make her about 16. Now, the show says, 3 years later and she graduates high school, but it doesn't exactly depict her age. So, I'm keeping her at 16 here and I'm knocking Yusuke to 16 as well. Making Yusuke, Kagome, Keiko, Kurama and Kuwabara in High School.
Chapter 1: Moving On
Kagome sat on the bottom of the stairs, staring at the well. It had been a week and she felt like she was all cried out. Completely drained, with nothing left to give, she twisted the circle on her finger, forcing herself to remember. Everything. From their first meeting to his blood on her hands.
It was over. Naraku was dead. The Jewel had been wished out of existence. Or so they thought. It had been wished for the Jewel to disappear. And it did. Out of sight, out of mind. It wasn't until the well had closed that she realized that it hadn't disappeared for good. It went back to where it was to begin with. Inside her. Only this time, it was embedded in her soul, completely purified. Now, she was truly it's protector once more and no demon could ever get to it again. Midoriko could rest in peace.
"Kagome?" She looked up as her mom sat beside her, "Honey. You can't keep doing this to yourself. You need to move on."
"I know." She looked at her hand, "I don't know how, mom. He was my everything."
"Oh, sweetie." Ms. Higurashi had her daughter, knowing how it felt to lose the love of your life, "I know how it is to get past something like this. You're still so young. Unfortunately, it's not going to be easy. But it won't help you to keep coming down here. So, I have a compromise."
"What kind?"
"School." Kagome started to pull away, but her mom was firm, "Not yours. Do you remember your cousin Yusuke? You used to play together a lot."
"A little. Our dads were brothers, right?"
"Correct. He goes to Sarayashiki High School, which is just a train ride away. I talked to the school and made an arrangement with them."
"What kind of arrangement?" Kagome asked, looking confused.
"I know you won't be going back to the past. However, with the Jewel still inside you, there's no telling what could happen. You're so far behind all of your classmates, you can't catch up. Your grandpa has made up so many excuses for you to be sick, I'm surprised they haven't had you committed into some sick-ward somewhere." They shared a laugh, "The talk that I've had with Yusuke's school was an interesting one. You're going to be listed as home-schooled so that you can catch up at your own pace. You won't have to actually attend school on a daily basis. This way, you can take your time and get yourself to where you need to be. In your own time."
Kagome was silent for a moment, thinking. "What if I used that time for other things as well? Things that I had trouble getting because I was constantly being protected."
"What things, dear?"
"Proper Miko training. I've always felt that there was so much more that I could learn and I never had the time to do it."
"Are there any true Mikos left?" Her mother asked, curious, "I mean, I know that Shrine Maidens still exist, but what about full spiritual Mikos?"
"I'm not sure. I know that there are still demons around. I've been feeling them around here for a long time now. They just stay hidden more than before. What if there are people around who can teach me how to control my Reiki? Maybe even someone who can teach me how to fight."
"Fight? Kagome…"
"Mom, I have been nothing but protected since I first went to the past. All I was expected to do was hunt Jewel shards and shoot the occasional Sacred Arrow. I would love to learn how to properly defend myself. Especially if a random demon senses the Jewel inside me and decides to attack."
"Well, then you could definitely do with spending some time with Yusuke. He's been known to get into a lot of fights. I'm pretty sure most of his school is scared of him."
"Hmm… that sounds good."
1-2-3-4-5
"Yusuke!" Kagome called out, running to her cousin smiling, "Oh, let me look you." Same age as Kagome, he was a good eight inches taller than her, "Wow. I didn't realize that you were that much taller than me." He has slicked back hair, as black as hers, wearing a green school uniform, "I wasn't even planning on seeing you yet. I was just headed to the sporting goods store. This is so cool."
The boy just stared at her for a moment and smiled, "Oh, wow. Kags!"
"Yep. That's me." He laughed and picked her up for a hug, ignoring the frown being thrown at them from the brunette next to him, "I haven't seen you in forever. Oh, I missed you. How've you been? Mom said that you've been sick for like a year."
Oh, crap. Gotta be careful Kagome. Remember the story you and mom worked out and stick to it. "Oh, well. It's really weird, actually. I've developed this really low immune deficiency. I get sick, all the time. And it's over the smallest things. What seems like sneezing from pollen turns into bronchitis. It's a real bummer."
"That's sucks!"
"Tell me about. I've missed so much school that I couldn't keep up. Mom had to pull me. She's got me signed up as a home-school student through your school."
"Mine?"
"Yeah. She figured it would be easier having someone at the new school that I knew, even though I'm hardly going to be there. I've got the subjects that I'm retaking, a series of tests to get through and a lot of books to cover. I'm basically going to be doing two years at the same time. But, I've already decided that, even if I can't catch up, I'm going to do the best that I can and just take my time. If I have to, I'll just make sure that I can get to the point of taking my high school equivalent exam and work on doing the online college thing. I'm not too worried about it. The plan is for me to take over grandpa's duties at the shrine, so I'm not in a rush."
"Oh, that's right. You're what they call a Shrine Maiden, right?"
"That's the modern term for it, yes. But, I prefer the old fashion term. Miko."
"Ahem." They looked over to see the brunette fuming in anger, "Yusuke. Who is this?"
"It's Kags."
"I heard you say that already. That doesn't tell me anything."
"Geez, Keiko," Kagome rolled her eyes, "nice to see you too. You haven't changed one bit you know. You're exactly as you were from when we were kids."
"Wait," Keiko frowned, "we know each other?"
"Keiko!" Yusuke exclaimed, "How can you not recognize her? That's Kagome. My cousin? Same black hair. Same brown eyes. We used to get confused for twins."
"Oh my gosh!" The girl cried out with a smile, "I'm so sorry. It's been so long."
"Oh, it's okay. I'm used to it. I don't even recognize myself most of the time." She looked down at her watch, "Oh, I've gotta go. I need to get to the sports store and then head to the library." She hugged her cousin again, "I'm so happy to see you. Since, technically, we go to the same school now, we've gotta hang out more. At least, when I'm not sick." She laughed as she started to walk away.
"Hey, since when do you do sports?!" He called out in confusion.
She just smiled, "I do archery. I find it very soothing. And I never miss." She jumped up and waved over the heads of people walking by, "Bye, guys." She turned and took off down the sidewalk.
"Come on, Yusuke. Walk me home."
"Oh, geez. Okay." He trudged down the sidewalk behind, hiding a smile.
1-2-3-4-5
After a couple of weeks of getting herself reacquainted with modern times on a daily basis, getting reacquainted with her cousin and doing as much school work as possible, she started converting her basement into a work out room. Nothing too heavy. Exercise mats, a treadmill, an elliptical, a stationary bike, chin-up bar, yoga ball, a punching bag (she got some Tae-BO videos to help with that) and a set of different weights. She's not that good, yet, but she's hoping to at least get to the point where she never feels useless again. Her grandpa also built an archery range in the back part of the forest. Gotta keep sharp.
"Kagome."
"Hey, grandpa." She panted, running uphill on the treadmill, "What's up?"
"Still no luck on any Mikos, but I might have a substitute."
"What kind?"
"There's a woman, known for her chi mastery, who lives in a temple in a remote forest. It's said she has immense spiritual and healing powers. She might be able to help you."
"Wow." She slowed down on her treadmill, contemplating, "That might be perfect, actually. Someone with a chi mastery might also help me with my physical training."
"You might want to pack a camping bag. Nothing too heavy. It's going to take quit a few trains to get there." He grinned, "Not to mention the hike through the hills and a really impressive number of stairs."
"Like I'm not used to that."
She grinned, mentally figuring out what she wanted to take with her. Her new bow and arrows, her arm guards (both had special blades hidden inside) some work out clothes and shoes, her boomerangs that Totosei made her from Shippo's baby teeth and her new belt. She got it from a military surplus store and freaking loved it. It had a lot of pouches all the way around it and two leg holsters, that she modified to hold her boomerangs instead of guns. She wanted to also pack her healing book of herbs and hakama that Kaede had given her as a parting gift.
"Gods, I miss you guys."
1-2-3-4-5
"No! No, no, no." She crawled over to the body in front of her, sobbing, "Please!" Her hands came away, covered in blood, "Y-y…"
"Shhh…" he whispered, weakly stroking her chin, "don't. It's okay. You're safe. That's all that matters to me."
"You can't leave me. I need you. I can't. Please don't."
"You are so strong. From the moment we first met, you were such a force to be reckoned with." She buried her hand in his silver hair, trying not to jar his burned ears, "Oh, my love. Don't dwell. Please. I'll see you again. When I've earned enough in the afterlife, I promise to pay my debt and be reborn. Just so I can be with you. I don't care how long it takes."
"I don't want to lose you."
"I'll be watching over you. Just like I've always done. My Little Miko. My Sweet, Sweet Kagome. I love you so much."
"I'll never love anyone else, the way I've loved you. I promise. I won't stop looking for you. You are my everything."
"Don't let it…" He winced, fading fast, "consume you. Our time will come again. I promise. Because you, too, are my everything."
"I love you."
"I love you." She kissed him, once last time, and felt his last breath leave his body. Her own body started to shake her tears of grief consumed her.
Her love. Her mate. Her everything.
Gone.
1-2-3-4-5
After climbing to the top of the steps, which was nothing compared to the Feudal Era, Kagome looked around at the large gathering in front of the temple, "Huh?"
Walking through the group, and avoiding lecherous grins on a bunch of pervert's faces, she bumped into a person's back.
"Hey! Watch it!"
"Oh, I'm so sorry." She bowed her head in apology not looked up, "I got a little confused about what was going on. I apologize, sir."
"K-Kagome?" She looked up in shock to see her cousin standing there with another guy in blue uniform and orange hair in a weird cut, "What are you doing here?"
"Um," she thought for a moment. If he's here, then he knows who Genkai is, which means that she could give him a partial truth, "actually, I'm having trouble finding a spiritual teacher. Someone who can really work with me on my Miko powers. Grandpa heard about Genkai and thought that maybe she could help me."
"I thought your family's spiritual powers faded off." He chuckled, "I mean, your grandpa used to throw sutras at me."
"He throws them at everybody." They smiled for a moment, "Um, we're not really sure why it developed in me the way it did. Most of our family in the past can just sense stuff. Mine's a lot stronger. Healing included."
"Wow, Kags. That's awesome."
"Thanks. So, why are you here?"
"That's actually a very long, hard and complicated story to explain."
"Uremeshi!" Orange dude yelled, "You better no be cheating on Keiko with this girl!"
"Ew, gross!" The cousin called out unison.
"Geez, Kuwabara, that's Kagome. My cousin."
"Yeah, please don't put us in a pairing like that. It's really… ew." They were interrupted by a loud gong that sounded through the temple.
"Quiet everyone. Genkai must be coming!" Someone in the crowd called out as everyone went silent.
"Why is everyone here?" She whispered, looking at Yusuke.
"She's looking for a new student."
"Uh-oh. I think I came on the wrong day." She turned around to leave only to noticed that she was boxed in with nowhere to go. "Great."
The door of the temple opened, "My, my. Quite a crowd." A short older woman with pale pink hair walked forward.
"That little old hag is Genkai?" Her cousin asked, shocked.
Kagome rolled her eyes and elbowed him in the ribs, "Show some respect."
"All right people. I suppose we should get things started.
"The tests that the master gives us is said to be incredible tough." A guy said off to their left.
"I don't care. I'm going to pass every single one of them." His friend commented, determined.
"The first of your screening tests will be…" She trailed off for a moment, prolonging the suspense, "the drawing of lots." Her words shocked everyone to the ground.
"How is that a test?" Yusuke complained, standing back up.
"Everyone will draw a lot from this old jar. Come now. We haven't all day."
"More greatness." Kagome muttered, walking with Yusuke, "I didn't come for this."
She got up to the jar with Yusuke and Kuwabara and drew her lot, frowning down at it. Something was off. This wasn't a normal sheet of paper. She looked over to see Genkai watching her intently. Something was definitely going on. They got back down the stairs and noticed some people were praying over there, "Idiots."
"You did that fairly well. I'm impressed. Let's all open our lots now. If the paper inside is red, then congratulations. You've passed the first of today's screenings."
Kagome opened her at the same time as her cousin and blinked down at the red lot in her hand. She could have sworn that was white. Her senses were telling that when she pulled it out of the jar. All of them were. "Wait a minute." She looked up to see Yusuke and Kuwabara also had red ones, "Do you two have spiritual powers?"
"I do." Kuwabara said, clearly unhappy about them, "I was hoping Genkai could teach me how to get rid of it."
"Yusuke?"
"Yeah, I do."
"That's it. The papers were blank when we drew them. But those with high levels of spiritual powers made them turn red."
"Are you serious?!" The two boys exclaimed. Just as she was about to explain further, two men, the size of large mountains, confronted Genkai on the stairs.
"We are the two most powerful fighters of the Kyushu Mountain people!"
"We've come all this way because we heard that you could make us greater! You can't turn us away with a piece of paper!"
"Do you not see how big we are? You have to give us a fair shot!"
The old woman just stuck her finger in her ear like she was clearing out her hearing, "The only difference with larger fighters is that they're louder when they whine. Can't you blockheads understand that I'm just trying to save you from embarrassment?"
"I'm warning you!"
"This probably goes way beyond your comprehension boys," her voice got a little lower, "but please try to pay attention. If you're really ready for my training, then why didn't your paper turn red?"
"Told ya." Kagome smiled, looking at a shocked Yusuke and Kuwabara as they stared at her, "What?"
"I think she's asking us for more proof!" One of the giants yelled right before they charged. A flash of light shown out of Genkai's eyes, sending the two men flying back into a shed at the end of the courtyard, shocking everyone.
"Wha-what was that?"
"That was some massive spirit energy." Kagome smiled, looking back at the old woman, "Okay. Now I'm impressed."
"Wow. My powers are getting a bit rusty. A few years ago and those oafs would've ducked their heads if I'd winked at them wrong." Genkai smiled with a scoff, "I guess I'm really getting old." She turned and started to walk away, "All right, you red papers. Please follow me."
Kagome waited for Yusuke, not wanting to go in without him. She looked over at him as it looked like his watch just fell apart.
"Did you hit it or something?"
"Or something."
They got to the door to see what looked like a massive arcade room.
"This is not a normal house." Yusuke commented, looking around.
"Maybe she just likes video games."
They looked up to see Genkai on some hanging platform, held up by chains, "I hope you've all brought your quarters. These games will be the second screening."
"Please master," A balled youth stepped forward, "may I ask what playing video games has to do with learning great power?"
"Absolutely nothing, really. But these are no ordinary games that you'll be playing. The Janken game tests your Spirit Awareness. The punching game shows your Spirit Strength. And the Karaoke tests your energy's ability adapt and grow stronger. If you cannot pass two out of three, then go home quickly. And don't play the other games. They're just for me."
"All right. Hand me that boxing glove." A guy stepped forward to the punching game with a smirk, "Me and this game are old buddies." He swung his fist and hit it as hard as he could. His score only came up as 18, making everyone laugh.
"That doesn't make any sense. I always get the high score on the punching game in my parent's pool house."
"Well, this isn't your parent's pool house. It doesn't make any difference to that machine how physically strong you are unless your spirit strength goes along with it."
Kuwabara stepped up and slammed the pad, hard, earning him a 129. "Wow, Kuwabara. That's awesome!" Kagome congratulated, making him blush.
"One hundred and twenty nine! What do you think of that, Urameshi?"
Yusuke smirked, "Don't get too excited. I think there's something wrong with the machine. Here, I'll check it out for ya." He planted his feet and hit the pad, earning a score of 155. "Nope. I guess it works fine."
As the two boys started arguing, a glove was put in front of Kagome, "Your turn, girlie."
She took it, disdainfully, and put it on. "Great. I'm not a puncher. Well, that's one game failed." She faced the machine and closed her eyes for a moment, remembering. Keep your thumb tucked against your knuckles, not inside. You'll break it. Plant your feet and brace your shoulders. You may not be able to hit hard, but by the time I'm through, you'll be able to hit with accuracy and precision. Enough to help you get away.
Taking Genkai's word to heart, she focused a seed of her Reiki into her fist and let it fly, not really expecting much. Looking up, she was pleasantly surprised to see a score of 115. "What? How did I do that?"
"Hey, Kags!" Yusuke patted her on the shoulder, "That's pretty good for someone who hates fighting. Not bad, little Cuz."
"Thanks. I'm not even sure how I did it."
"All right, Urameshi. Let's see you on Rock-Paper-Scissors!"
"Is this some kind of rivalry that you've got going on with Kuwabara?" She asked, handing her glove to the next person.
"Since we were kids, actually. Come on. Next game." They went over to the Rock-Paper-Scissors game where Kuwabara was wait, "Fun time."
They watched for a moment as the taller kid play, getting a clean sweep on the game. "Yeah! Where's your comeback now!"
"Testy." Kagome laughed, "Come on, Yusuke. Your turn. I need to get out of this crowd. I feel like I'm suffocating." She watched as her cousin got a lower score than his rival, "Cheer up. You still get to sing about your pains and afflictions."
"All right, smart ass. Your turn." He nudged her forward and she faced the machine. She focused on as if she was shared hunting again. When she was done, she not only got a clean sweep, but she beat Kuwabara's score. "Great job, Kags!"
"Hey!" Kuwabara looked on in shock with the rest of the crown, "How'd you do that?"
"How did you?" She smiled and pulled them to the karaoke machines, "All right one of you two is next." After many gut wrenching, head splitting, eye crossing yelling into the mike, both boys scored pretty high on their adaptability. Kagome went next. Her voice was the best one there. Had to be considering she was in choir at her old school. She steered her Miko powers into her voice and focused on memories of the past. When she was finished, she received the highest score on the board, "Huh? Oh, well."
She got down and joined her cousin, ignoring all the looks everyone was throwing at her, "Can we go outside? It's getting really hot in here."
Yusuke, noticed that she was breathing a little weird. Remember her condition, he quickly led her out, pushing people away from them. After sitting on the steps for a few minutes, her breathing finally evened out, "Better?"
"Much. Thanks. I'm not used to that many people around me anymore. Much less enclosed in one room. I just started to get hot and couldn't catch my breath."
"Don't worry about it. I've you covered."
After all the tests were done, the remaining group followed Genkai to a forest, full of dark spiritual energy. "Now that the weak have been eliminated, the tests will be far more severe."
"Severe?" Kagome turned to her cousin, "Yusuke. I didn't come here for this."
"It's okay, Kags. I'll protect you. Just stay with me."
"Okay." She had put on her belt harness and, hooking the boomerangs to her legs, latched her backpack on, "Ready to go."
"Master, the forest seems to have its own life force."
"Yes, to say the least! It's known as the Dark Forest, and it's as old as the human race. It has become a sanctuary for the oldest and most primitive demons." Demons? Kagome's mind started racing. Not good. "On the other side of the forest is a giant tree. Make there and you pass the test. You have two hours."
A couple of guys, scared out of their minds, took off, not wanting anything to do with it.
"Kagome." Yusuke grabbed her arm, "Two hours might be a problem. I don't know what we'll face in there and I'm worried that protecting you is going to slow me down. Why don't you go back to the temple and wait for me?"
She thought about it. She really did. Why should she put herself through this. Was it worth it? Then she thought about someone else. My love. You can't always rely on us to have your back. We're not always going to be there to protect you. Understand?"
"As tempting as that is, I need to do this. I'll be okay. Promise."
"Only those who have gone through training should cross into these woods. It is not place for a boy, for instance." The man behind commented, "Or a little girl."
"Speak for yourself." Yusuke puffed up, "I'm not about to be scared off by a little walk through grandma's forest!"
"Watch your mouth, you dumb little brat!" Genkai growled.
"Do you have to be so rude, Yusuke?" Kagome shook her head and turned to the guy behind her, "For your information, jerk-face, I've been chased through woods a whole lot worse than this one. I'd like to see you in the Forest of No Return."
"Girl." Kagome turned to see a shocked look on the older woman's face, "When have you been in the Forest of No Return?"
"Um…" Whoops. Geez, Kagome, idiot much. Oh, well. "It was a long time ago."
"Hn." Genkai glared for a moment as Yusuke walked over to the big mouth.
"You're just trying to get rid of me so I won't learn Genkai's powers instead of you! Is that the big plan?" He looked back and forth between Big Mouth and the bald Monk beside him, "Hey, you wouldn't happen to be a monster in disguise, would you?"
Monster? Just what was going on with him?
Kuwabara grabbed Yusuke by the shoulder and got in his face, "If you're going to do this run, then so am I."
"Stop getting so excited. It's embarrassing."
"Best of luck. I hope you don't die."
"Geez." Kagome stared at the woman beside her, "Morbid much?" She turned to her cousin, "Don't worry about me, okay. I can take care of myself. Just focus, alright?"
He nodded, "Okay."
"Ready."
"Set."
"Go!"
Kagome held back for a moment, watching everyone run straight through. She sat on the ground and started meditating, trying to see if she could get a visual of the forest in her mind. With somewhat of a path as her focus, she headed off.
Remember, Kagome. When running for your life, use your powers. Focus it on the next thing in front of you. Don't look back. Use your mind's eye to catch you. Trust your instincts. They'll never let you down.
About an hour and 45 minutes in, Kagome new that she was almost out. Unfortunately, she wasn't counting on little pygmy demons to surround her. "Great."
"Give us the Jewel and we'll kill you quickly."
"Really?" She rolled her eyes, "Get a life, you little freaks. The Jewel doesn't exist anymore. Run along." She turned to go around them, but they converged on her.
"We sense the Jewel. We know it's here." The little of the Troop sniffed the air, "It's you. The Jewel resides in you." He laughed, "Oh well. I guess a quick death is off the table."
1-2-3-4-5
"Don't you see you've got no reason to laugh, idiot?!" Kuwabara grabbed Yusuke by the jacket and started yelling at him, "You went over the time limit!"
"What?! Is that true?"
"It seems to be, but I believe I'll make an exception."
Laughing, the teens hugged before realizing what they were doing, "Hey, wait!" Yusuke turned to Genkai, "I've gotta go back in there."
"To the forest?!" Kuwabara exclaimed, "Are you crazy?"
"My cousin is still in there. I can't just leave her." He turned around, ready to go back in when he heard a yell coming from the right side, "Huh?!"
Everyone turned to see Kagome sprinting, "Move! Now!"
Genkai, sense the urgency, made everyone, including Yusuke, get back.
Kagome, still running from the Troop, turned and faced the name now charging horde, "More space. That's what I needed."
"Kagome!"
"No distractions!" Dropping her bag, she grabbed her boomerangs off her leg and infused her Reiki in them, making double in size, "Hiraikotsu Blades!" She jumped up and threw the them at the monkeys, turning them all to dust. She caught them as they came to her and sighed. She picked her bag back up and went up to the group waiting at the tree. "I know. Stupid monkeys. I had fifteen minutes left. I would've made it out in time if they hadn't converged on me." She sat down to put her boomerangs back on the holsters, missing the shocked look being sent at her, "Look, all I ask is that you not make me have to go back out there. I can stay on the sidelines until Yusuke is done. I'm not really a fighter. I want to learn how to defend myself without have to resort to using my Reiki, but I came here to learn how to heal. That's all." When she was met with silence, she looked up to see everyone staring at her, "What?"
"Girl." Genkai walked over, "Those monkeys were human eating demons. How did you get away from them?"
"Oh, that?" She shrugged. "I've gotten pretty good at creating protective barriers when I'm scared. It took me a long time to learn how to do it on purpose."
"But what did they want with you? Pygmy Monkeys don't chase. Ever."
"Um…"
"I will know if you lie. The truth."
"Great." Kagome muttered and oath as she stood up and face the group. She turned toward her cousin, "I'm sorry, Yusuke. I told you that I have an immune deficiency, but that's not true."
"It's not?"
"No, it's." She sighed, "Okay, long story short. And I mean really short. There used to be a way for me to travel between our time and Feudal Japan. 500 years to be exact."
"What?!"
"It was an accident the first time and on purpose the rest. Come to find out, I was born with a very powerful jewel inside my body. One that could grant wishes. When I went through to the past, it was ripped from my body and shattered into a bunch of smaller shards that gave power boosts to the demons who possessed them. Me and a small group of others traveled through the lands collecting and purifying them to keep them out of evil hands. The Jewel was eventually completed and the Dark Evil Naraku was defeated. We wished the Jewel to disappear. Unfortunately, we didn't take into effect the specifics of said wish and what would happen. I was returned to my time, with no way of going back and the Jewel reappeared… um…"
"Back where it belongs." Genkai nodded, "Inside you."
"Yes, ma'am. I am it's protector. I always will be. The Jewel has been purified of any demon energy that was in it. Now, I just have to keep it out of the hands of demons and protect it for the rest of my life. That's why I want to continue training as a Miko. I'm going to take over my family's Shrine, so I need to learn how to control my Reiki."
"Hmm…" Genkai thought for a moment, "I watched you during the trials. You scored pretty good on everything. You should have made it in time if it wasn't for the monkey demons going after the Jewel. Tell you what. Instead of participating in anymore of the trials, which you have earned, you stay with me. When this is over, I will sit with you to figure out a schedule to train you with your Reiki."
"Serious? Oh, that's amazing. You don't know how hard we looked for a trained Miko with actual spiritual powers. They're practically nonexistent now."
