EPILOGE

Year 3010 Caroline's Second Birthday.

Caroline and Klaus and their family live in a big castle in the middle of nowhere. A Nuclear war has killed most of the people and animals on the planet, so food is scarce for the immortal vampires. But they are still happily together. Hope who became a tribrid during her human life, is still with them with a vampire companion of her own. Hayley was killed early on in a battle. All the rest of the originals, Rebekah, Elijah (finally cured in 2024) and Kol are still alive and well.

"Caroline, love, look what I got you"

Klaus came in dragging a human being with him. A boy of approximately 17 years old.

They were at the time in the dining room alone.

"Klaus, you found a human, where did you find a human?" Caroline got excited.

"Oh, that fella, that fella had gone a little too far from his little village, so he was an easy target." Klaus said, dropping the guy on the floor, and proceeded to go and give a little kiss to his wife "Happy Birthday, Caroline!"

"It's not my birthday, Klaus." Caroline said in confusion.

"Oh, yes, it is, If I'm not mistaken, you died and became a vampire exactly 1000 years ago today. Didn't I tell you that you have a 1000 years in you?" He beamed at her.

"Klaus, I love you!" Caroline declared and found a cup.

"I know. I love you, too. Go on no. I know you haven't had a human in months."

"None of us have." That was Rebekah who came in to the room, clearly wanting to eat that poor boy but 2000 years of existence has given her a complete control over herself, even if the food was scarce. "So the rest of us are going to eat what ever we can find in the woods again, right. Because we can't kill the poor boy and drain him of all his blood."

During that conversation Caroline has compelled the boy to sit and be calm until she gets some blood from his wrist which she let drop in to the cup. It wasn't the same as a blood bag but as this things weren't there anymore for a couple of hundred years, she had to adjust. But she still refused to drink straight from veins.

"No, you can't Rebekah." Caroline said after she had a taste of the human. "Here take this, I'm in a mood to share."

"Caroline, I brought this for you and I know how little you are going to use to drink his blood. Do you really have to share it with people who don't even like you that much."

"What are you talking about, brother. Me and Caroline have become good friends."

"Really, didn't you compel the last human you had to stab Caroline with a stake for fun."

"Well, I got to get my jollies from somewhere. Caroline knows that it wasn't personal."

And at that Caroline smiled at Klaus in agreement.

"Still, I'm going to say no to the blood, Care, as Klaus is right, it's your One Thousand and you need to celebrate."

"If you must Rebekah, there are few deers outside." Klaus declared.

"Deer, oh goody, deer mixed with some delicious nuclear particles." Bekah said and bolted out the door, so they were once again alone.

Once Caroline had a few cups of blood, she compelled the boy: "You are going to forget about being in here and everything that just happened and you go back to your village, marry a nice girl and have lots of babies. You got it?"

The boy just nodded and left.

"Marry and have a lot of rotten babies. Is that what you wanted when you were 17 years old?" Klaus asked, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her close.

"No, I wanted totally different things but I know now that I wanted the wrong things." She answered by wrapping her arms around his neck.

"And have we not had many adoptive children over the centuries. I mean there was Amy, Grace, Melinda, Matthew, Aron, that sweet boy with a very complicated name, wasn't it Algeria or Algrerio or no it was Algernon. What ever it was, I didn't name him."

Caroline had burst into giggles during that speech and during laughs, she added that it was Elijah who came up with it. "Anyway, you called him Alf, so…"

"I did, I had to, otherwise I would have had to call him The fat one as he was always eating."

"And now they are all dead. It sucks to be immortal." Caroline said sadly.

"Really, all those 1000 years with me has sucked?" Klaus feigned being hurt.

"Not that part…"

"Love, we can always adopt new children, even In this situation there are babies left for dead."

"Yeah, but it's so sad when they leave you. I mean you'll always have Hope."

"I do, but she loves you so much. Speaking of which, I think I hear her now."

"Good morning, Hope" Klaus and Caroline say in unison as they unwrap themselves from each other.

The End.
