Unrequited
Tia Dalma moved quietly around the cabin, not wanting to wake Jack. He was snoring loudly, though that came as no surprise considering the great amount of rum he had consumed by the time he'd returned home to her.
Tia knew it was hard, especially for a man of the sea, to admit that he could feel. She wouldn't have him for long. Not when there were whores in Tortuga who would be happy with just another meaningless fuck. And if that was not enough to give him an incentive to abandon her, she knew the sea would claim him eventually. Under any normal circumstance this would have been enough to keep her affection from being bestowed upon him. She herself was not above the earthly temptation of physical pleasure. Any rational woman would see their relationship in that light.
But Tia wasn't rational, and she could still, every once in a while, long for her love to be returned.
Rustling sounds came from the cot, and Tia hastily added the last ingredient to her tonic.
"Oy, my head," Jack groaned, and Tia smirked, bringing him his tonic.
"Here you are," she whispered, thick accent purring around the words.
He gulped her tonic down and took a moment to steady himself.
"I knew there was a reason I came here instead of Tortuga," he said, leaning in to kiss her neck.
"Dere ies a reason for everyting."
He leaned back, his eyes darkening a little, but he didn't say anything.
"You lieke my new bed? My house …"
"Love, I'd be lying if I said it was less than comfortable."
The kiss was one they had shared more than once – Tia knew it was coming even as he uttered that last word. He took her mouth, leaving her dizzy, but before she could get caught up in the moment, the bitter taste of selfish intent took over. He would kiss her and leave her, but before she could even think that she shouldn't encourage him, he swept her away with a brush of tongue against her closed lips. She opened her mouth and delightedly let him assault her, his tongue moving firmly against hers.
It was at just that moment he heard a bird call.
Jolting off her, Jack reared up onto his feet, and searched desperately for his boots. Tia hadn't even realized he'd pushed her back onto the bed. Sitting up, she watched him bustle about the small room.
"Where are you going?"
"I need to get back to the ship – they'll leave without me."
"But can't you stay longer?"
"No! No, I can't," he responded, voice shaking.
He was almost out the door. Tia jumped up and out of the bed, wildly trying to find a way to get him to stay.
She already knew it was hopeless.
"You wiell come beck, won't you?"
He didn't even turn to look at her.
"We'll be at sea for a few months – maybe years. I dunno."
He waved his hand dismissively, and he was gone.
Tia leaned back against the doorframe, sighing deeply. The worst thing about the whole romance was that she knew she'd take him back. No matter what.
Author's Note: Okay, so I'm not sure if this is complete yet or not. I may write a few more short chapters, but it would be great if I could get feedback. If I do decide to write anything, I'll post it here. This might just end up being a one-shot. So any feedback I get will be appreciated.
