Chapter 2: Hello
"Princess!" A young girl, about 10, hid behind a tree, waiting for her attendants to pass by, "Come on, Princess. It's time for your lesson."
The girl sighed as they left, happy for a quiet moment without being hovered over. It didn't matter that she was the princess and heir to the throne. She was only 10 and didn't get a chance to actually be a kid. It was always lesson after lesson. She was tired of constantly being told to be proper and to stop daydreaming. She stood up and shook out her skirts, ready to sneak over to the stables to visit with Bella.
"Hiding?"
She turned with a gasp, upset that she was caught, "Who are you and what are you doing here? This is the Royal Garden. It's off limits."
"The Queen gave me permission to be here." The boy, about 14, smirked as he held up a key with a white flower on it, "Apparently, my mother told her about my own gardens and thought I would enjoy a walk through hers. Considering how bored I was getting."
"Oh." She eyes the key with interest, "She must like you." She looked back up, "Don't pluck anything without permission, stay on the paths and don't go into the Silverhouse. It's not a regular Greenhouse. It grows very specific flowers with special properties in them. She's very picky about who goes in there. Don't even try." She started to turn, "Oh," she looked back, "and don't even think about going into the Nook."
"Nook?"
"Off limits." She stomped off, anxious to visit her horse.
"Got a temper on her, doesn't she?" He looked over as his parents walked over with the Queen, "She gets it from her father. You'll meet him tonight. He's on Mars at the moment, overseeing some new training procedures."
"That was the Princess." He looked back as he caught the last site of blonde pigtails, "She certainly acted like a royal."
"She doesn't always. She gets irritated because she spends more time on Royal Lessons than getting to be an actual kid. I've lost count of how many times she's snuck off to the stables to visit with Bella. That's probably where she's heading now."
"Bella?"
"Bella is a winged-unicorn. We breed them here. Her father gave her to Sere on her 6th birthday. It seems that all she wants to do now is ride."
"All Sesshomaru wants to do is train. He hates paperwork and meetings." An Inu Daiyoukai, InuTaisho was Lord of the Western Lands of Feudal Japan and one of the Four General Leaders of the Youkai, "He finds them tedious and boring."
"They are." His son rolled his eyes, still looking in the direction of the Princess, "May we see these winged-unicorns? They don't exist on Earth."
"Of course." The Queen nodded and gestured forward, "How do you like the gardens?"
"Its big." He looked around, "I see a lot of variety that we carry on Earth."
"Maybe later you'd like a look through the greenhouse. We cultivate flowers and plants from different planets in there."
"What kind of flowers do you keep in the Silverhouse?"
"She warned you not to go in there, didn't she?" She smiled.
"Yes ma'am."
"There's a reason for that. We had a visiting dignitary from Earth who decided she was going to be nosey and messed with a flower that she knew nothing about. That particular flower was from Saturn." She shook her head, "You have to be quit delicate with plants from Saturn. They're beautiful and dangerous. That flower let out a cloud of pollen that put almost everyone to sleep. Thankfully, it was just a baby. Otherwise, it would have killed them instead." They turned down a path, "That's why the restrictions exist."
"Understood." He stopped and stared at the building ahead of them, eyes wide at the size, "Is that the stables?"
"Oh, yes. We're very proud of them."
The stables were almost like a mini castle. The walls were tall and it had turrets. There was a massive training area on the other sides of it. "I'm impressed."
"And he's rarely impressed with anything." Sesshomaru's mother, Inukimi, smiled over her fan, "It's nice to see him show appreciation for something other than a weapon."
"Mother."
"Come." Queen Serenity gestured as the entered the stables, "We'll find you one to fit your young personality and you can have some lessons while here."
"Is there a difference between riding these than regular horses?"
"Are you kidding?" They looked over as the Princess stood there pouting, her handlers having found her, "They're Lunarian Winged-Unicorns. Of course there's a difference."
"Serena."
"Sorry. Going back to my lessons now."
"No need. We're here. I see no harm in you being Sesshomaru's guide in how to meet and handle them properly."
"Oh, joy." The smiled sarcastically and motioned for the Dog-demon to follow her, "They are technically called Winged-Unicorns. That is their proper name. However, it is a mouthful and a lot of people, especially on Earth, have started calling them Alicorns." She rolled her eyes, "It's not correct, but whatever is easier for you."
The adults chuckled at the child's prime talk, "Lunarian Steeds, technically, are the better shorthand term. No other planet raises them, but they do have a few different types of Winged-Unicorns. They're just not Lunarian or as special."
"Serena." The Queen admonished, trying to conceal a smile.
"Leave my girl be, Serenity." A voice boomed from behind them, "She's proud of her planet and lineage. She has a right to brag."
"Papa!" The young girl ran forward and hugged the imposing figure in the doorway, "You're back. I hate it when you go away."
"I'm so sorry, Little Star." He held the girl in his arms, happy to be home, "How have my two favorite girls fared without me?"
"Horribly." Serenity admonished, walking over to give her husband a hug, "But, we're better now that you're home."
"Inukimi. Toga. It's good to see you again." He put his daughter down, who just wrapped her arms around is waist and held on, "You must be Sesshomaru. I'm glad to finally meet you. I've been telling your father that he needed to bring you up here sooner." He leaned over, as much as Serena would let him, and shook the young man's hand, "Boy, you look just like Toga."
"Thank you, sir." The boy smirked as the young girl refused to let go of her father, "How long were you gone for?"
"Three long days. It was horrible." Serena pouted, "That's three whole games of chess."
"You play chess?" Inukimi asked, intrigued, "Lovely."
"She's learning. She almost beat me last time."
"Almost being the operative word. It's not enough. I want to be better."
"And so you shall." King Illarion smiled as he looked over at his wife, "The meetings went well. So well, that I have an idea."
"That scares me."
"Serena spends more time learning ways to be a proper princess and it bores her. She's a very energetic girl who needs more activity in her life. As you know, she's the only sole heir in the Solar System. All the other planets have multiple children."
"Right."
"And, as custom, have been training their youngest daughters in the soldier arts."
"Absolutely not." She explained, shocked, "That is not what she is meant to do."
"Mother." Serena whined, "Please."
"Hear me out." He held his wife's hand, trying to calm her, "Just like you, she possesses her own Silver Crystal. That crystal gives her ultimate healing and moon powers. More than the typical Lunarian when using Selenium. She can channel, just like you, the powers of the other planets. Why not let her learn how to truly access those powers. Fully. Not just tap into them. And I'm sorry, but I'm going to put my foot down on this. I don't want her to constantly rely on magic. It could drain her and put her at a major disadvantage if she's ever in a fight. And don't say she won't be as there's always a chance. I want her to learn different aspects of fighting from the different planets."
The Queen crossed her arms, upset. "I don't like it." She held up a hand to forestall him, "But I understand. So, a compromise. We rearrange her schedule to start training how to use the magic from the different planets. Then, once she's mastered the basics, she starts focusing on one thing from each planet. Not necessarily bombard her with 9 different fighting styles."
"Like shooting a bow and arrow like the soldiers from Mars can do?" Serena jumped excited, "Please? I've always wanted to take up archery."
The Queen smiled at her daughter, "A deal. Master your basics first. Get control and take the lessons seriously. Then, we'll sit down with the 8 Royal families and determine one aspect from each planet. We'll get an assigned tutor to work with you on whatever is decided. You will take each lesson and tutor without complaint. Understood?"
"Yes, ma'am." She bowed her head for a moment and, smiling, jumped up to hug her mother, "Thank you, mama."
"Thank your father." Softening, the Queen smiled at her beloved, "Now, how about you show Sesshomaru the Alicorns," The Princess scrunch her nose at the word, "while your father and I escort Lord Toga and Lady Inukimi around the grounds."
"Yes, ma'am." She bowed as the adults left, and turned to her guest, "I apologize."
"For what?"
"I was rude to you in the gardens. I didn't know who you were. But that's no excuse. I am the Princess and it's my job to be cordial to all guests on the moon. So, let me introduce you to…" just then a white streak shot past them, cause the two youths tow pause in shock, "Crescent, stop!" The streak halted and pranced back over to the girl, "Good girl. Say hello." The little creature pawed the air in greeting and rolled over for a tummy rub, "Spoiled rotten." Serena smiled and she bent to pet her friend, "Have you been chasing Luna and Artemis again?"
"What is she?" Sesshomaru looked at the creature, "She looks like a wolf but has some fox-like characteristics. Especially with the three tails. And are those fairy wings?"
"Story goes, that a young kitsune befriended a wolf pup. The pup risked its life to save the kitsune. Unfortunately, both creatures still died. Inari, the Fox God, rewarded the friendship by melding the two animals together in the stars, creating its own constellation. It was a beloved formation by many Lunarians for many years. The Goddess Selene took the constellation and created these little guys, as a hybrid of sorts, and added the wings. Just to make them cuter. They are only found on the moon. The wings are a little whimsical and allows them float about a foot. Almost unnecessary, I think, but it help make them faster as they're running. Plus, they have evaporating and healing abilities. Very revered creatures. And vain." She joked as the kit preened herself.
"Do they have a name?"
"Not officially. They're just here. But, I call them Lunar Kits. Lunar in reference to the moon and the wolven connection. And Kit because its the name of a baby fox and a shortened form of Kitsune. But, that's just me."
"I like it." He stared down at what looked like weird mix between a white wolf cub and a Fennec fox, fascinated by the three tails. "She's unique."
"To any other planet. They're all over the moon."
"Did you call her Crescent?"
"Uh-ha. Daddy gave her to me last year from a new litter. I tried to come up with something else, but it's all I could think of."
"Well, she does have a crescent moon on her forehead."
"So do all of the cats that live here. Doesn't mean I couldn't come up with something different."
"I like it. Its simple and it shows your personality."
She cocked her head, curious, "You don't know me well enough to know my personality."
"Despite being a princess, you show great compassion and joy for different things in life. You don't just want to learn about royal duties, you want to be able to do other things. You have a never ending love for your parents and your planet. You have a soft spot for animals of all kinds and you don't care that I'm a Youkai."
She stared at him for a moment, considering. "I like you. Tell you what, if daddy says its okay, and your parents don't mind, we'll see if we can find a new litter for you to have your own Kit."
"I'd like that."

"They look like they're getting along pretty well." Serenity smiled as they looked down a wall at the two youths with a black Alicorn.
"I was worried." Toga smiled as he wrapped his arm around his wife, "He doesn't make friends easily."
"Considering his station, not to mention he's an InuYoukai, it makes sense." Illarion laughed as his daughter started to get impatient, "She has her mother's temper."
"I thought she got it from you?" Inukimi looked coyly over her fan, "That's what Serenity said."
"Some friend you are." The Queen scowled as her husband laughed, "She actually has an equal blend from both of us. It's quit amusing at times."
"Is it wrong to hope something more blooms between the two of them?"
"Honestly, Inukimi." Toga chuckled, "They're much too young for that."
"Doesn't mean I couldn't hope."
The adults shared a laugh as they continued to watch their children below, looking forward to what the future holds.
