Chapter 4: Academics

"Training report." Queen Serenity looked over at her Inner Soldiers, needing an update on her daughter's progress, "It's been a year. Has she improved?"

"Actually, your Majesty," Reika, the current Sailor Mars smirked, "You'd be surprised at what the young princess is capable of doing. We were."

"What does that mean?"

"It means," Psyche, or Sailor Venus, held up a hand, "that once she figured out the different feelings used in our powers, she's now a few years ahead of where we thought she would be. I would recommend not telling her."

Sailor Mercury nodded in agreement, "We believe that telling her would hamper her. We want to make sure that we take our time with our teachings and give her as many techniques to draw from as possible."

"Akira is right." Ora, or Sailor Jupiter laughed, "And we haven't even brought in the Outer Solders yet. The way we see it, we need to get her acquainted with us first. The Outer powers are going to be the hardest, due to their dispositions. Then, when it's time for her to choose her own soldiers, she'll be able to do so with a better mindset and understanding of the Planets and their powers."

"Knowing the powers will give her a better sense of who to choose for the positions and an understanding of what their jobs will entail." Serenity smiled, "That husband of mine. He knew exactly what he was doing when he suggested this." She chuckled, "Well then, I want you to start working on different fighting techniques." She looked up at the clock on the wall, "Does anyone know where she's snuck off to now?"

"Check the stables." They looked over as Illarion came in with Inukimi and Toga, "We just dropped Sesshomaru off in the gardens, so that's probably where he's heading."

"You do know that they're trading favors, right?" Toga smirked, "She's teaching him about the Moon Kingdom and your customs..."

"Including riding a Winged-Unicorn and how to care for that adorable Lunar Kit that she talked us into letting him have." Inukimi smiled, "I swear that thing gets pleasure in chasing Jaken around the castle. Not that I mind. I hate that toad. You think I could get one or two my own? Possibly to mate together?"

"I don't see the harm in that." The Moon King smiled, looking over at Toga, "I don't mind giving you something else to drive your husband crazy with."

"As I was saying." Toga nudged his wife in the shoulder, "Since she's teaching him that stuff, he's teaching her about the Earth and the Youkai nations."

"Speaking of Earth." Mercury stood up, "I was wondering if an Earth's Miko is different from planetary healing. Would you happen to know?"

"The only difference that I'm aware of is where the healing comes from." Toga stroked his chin in thought, "Mikos are spiritual healers. They're trained from birth to harness their inner spirit in order to connect to the person that they are healing. Versus planetary healing, which uses the powers around them. Depending on which planet they're from determines which type of powers they use."

"So, can anyone learn to use their inner spirit like a Miko does?"

"I believe so. I think it's different per person. I know that the use of Reiryoku, Reiki, is the holy and sacred abilities aligned with the spiritual sensitivity and energy of the user. Mostly religious groups like Mikos, Monks and Shintō Kannushi."

"Do you think it's something the Princess could learn?"

"Why?" The Queen asked, curious, "What's the point?"

"The point is to not rely on the Crystal. That's the reason she's not only learning about our planetary powers but we're fixing to start training her in different fighting styles. Why not find a Miko to teach her basic spiritual healing? Without using the crystal. It might help her later on in life."

"Actually," Illarion smirked, "I think that's a brilliant idea."

"Mmm." Serenity stood there in thought for a moment, smiling, "Toga. Kimi. Can you find someone? Someone you trust?"

"Most definitely."

"Good." She turned back to her Soldiers, "Now, let's discuss fighting styles."

"How's Titan doing?" Serena asked as she flew across the field on Bella, "He handling the transition to Earth okay?"

"That little Kit is King of the castle." Sesshomaru smirked as rode his black Winged-Unicorn Airistos, "He is not afraid of anything."

"Well, what do you expect? He's a Lunar Kit; heart of a true Lunarian. We don't scare easily." She laughed looking back over at him.

"Smart Alec. How's your lessons going?"

"Good. Could be better. I only started training last year. There's still so much for me to learn and it feels like I'm behind."

"You said it yourself. You've only been training for a year, not to mention that you're only 11. All other girls your age have been training in their planetary power since birth. Which is what you've been doing with Selenium. Now, you've got to adjust yourself to not just your training, both magical and royal, but other planetary training as well. Magical, intellectual and physical." He looked over at her determined face, "Has your martial arts and intellectual training been discussed yet?"

"Not to me." She sighed, "They want to make sure I have my basics down first before I start on anything new."

"So, talk to me. What type of magic are you learning?"

"Well, Mercurians are taught to use Hermanite, which is a specific particle that surrounds the planet. It gives them the ability to manipulate water. Mostly in the form on mist and ice. They prefer to pride themselves on their intelligence and technology. Computers are key."

They flew down and landed back in the stables, "Marshians use Aresian. It's the element of fire on Mars. I'm really excited to learn archery from them. It's a really big deal on their planet."

"I remember you talking about that and how much you wanted to learn it." He took a brush and started grooming Airistos, "What about Jupiter?"

"It has Diosianite running through it. The Jovians use its power to generate thunder and lightning. Very powerful. Jupiter is known for having the best fighters in the Solar System." She started braiding Bella's mane in intricate designs, "The Venusians manipulate their planets Cytherium. It's an empathic and emotional light energy surrounding the planet. They're nurturers, counselors and leaders in diplomatic relations. The light is something confused as Selenium, unless you know better."

"Their king is quite enigmatic."

"That's part of their charm. They get along with everyone. It's very hard to get mad at them." She laughed, "They also have a very keen fashion sense. Anyways," She caught the brush he threw at her, "The Uranians use Caeleanite. It's a high-end wind power that allows them to fly and shoot concussive energy out of their bodies. It's very destructive. They have the best sword and weapons fighters on their planet."

"There's Neptunians. It's actually an underwater kingdom protected by Poseidonite. We're talking deep, oceanic powers that are highly volatile and just as destructive as Uranus. Their planet is heavily into art of any form. From music and poetry to crafts and dance. They're very big on crafts. But all the planets have their own types."

"And the last two?"

"Pluto is the first planet encountered in the solar system. It's on the edge and at its very foundation, the protectors of time. Every Pluto Soldier, whether it's a Sailor Soldier or a Plutonian Knight, is trained as time warriors, priest and priestesses. I'll have to learn about it and how their whole process works. They're seers and memory keepers. They also work on the Astral plane and in Dreamscapes."

She sighed, "The only planet that I'm not sure about is Saturn. Their warriors are nicknamed the 'Silent Killers.' The Sailor Soldiers of old, including the current one, has the power to destroy planets. I have no clue what I could possibly learn from them."

"Sounds tricky." He nodded in thought, "Maybe, with that planet, you won't have to learn about the destructive parts."

"What do you mean?"

"Your mom once told me that they're scientists. Inventors. That they create some of the most beautiful and dangerous items in the galaxy."

"More natural things, actually." She nodded, "They create rock and stones for spells and charms. They graft flowers to promote health, sickness, life and death. They also build stuff. The Silverhouse in our garden?" She pointed off in the distance, "That's from Saturn. The glass is designed to hold special flowers."

"So, maybe instead of learning destructive magic that is nowhere near what your Lunarian blood should be tackling, maybe you need to be learning the academia of their planet. The trade or craft, as it is. As much as possible to make up for not learning how to harness their powers."

She paused, "That's brilliant." Smiling she turned back to him, "Tell me something."

"What's that?"

"Why do you like coming up here?"

"What do you mean?"

"Your mother has told me about all of the girls at court that fawn all over you. There are so many more activities available on Earth. Not to mention the different Youkai races and all the humans. What's so special about the moon?"

"For me or my family?"

"Um... both?"

"Well," he stopped and sat on a bench, studying the Earth below, "you know our moms have been friends since they were children, right?"

"Yeah, I knew that."

"Apparently, our families have been friends for generations. Long before our mothers."

"That, I didn't know."

"And our fathers as are so alike in personality, it's scary sometimes. I really like how close they are." He paused, "It's hard for me. I'm surrounded by Youkai who want to constantly kiss up to me, trying to be my friend. I'm never sure..."

"If they want to be your friend because they like you, or because of your position."

He glanced at her in surprise, "You too?"

She laughed, "The Moon Kingdom is the leader of the Silver Alliance. Lunarians are revered and feared because of what we can do. As the princess, I'm even more of an oddity. Each Royal is born with their own Silver Crystal. It's empowered by hope and love. The two most powerful emotions in the Universe." She looked up, "Every Royal family in the Solar System has more than one child. Lunarians are known for having two or three in each household. But there's never been more than one child born at a time in the Lunarian Royal family. It's just never happened. Everyone walks around eggshell around me. They're afraid of hurting my feelings. I have no friends outside of my teachers." She picked a moonflower from the ground, studying it, "Even when I'm surrounded by people, I'm always alone."

"That's harsh."

"Tell me about it." They sat in the quiet for a moment, just enjoying each other's company. "Hey!" She perked up, "I have an idea. I don't think I've ever shown you the Observatory. Want to see it?"

"That's the building with the large thing coming out of it, right?"

"A telescope, and yes, that building."

"I'd love to."

1-2-3-4-5

"So, it's agreed." Illarion stood, looking at the eight Sailor Soldiers in front of him and his wife, "We stick to the Inner planets first. Let her get used the way things are done with them. And then, maybe in the next year or two, she starts learning the Outer workings. But no magic from Saturn." He looked at Lady Anastasia, "No offense."

"None taken. As a Lunarian, it would not be smart for her to let that darkness in."

"So," Serenity smiled, "She continues her Ice training from Mercury and starts learning about academics from them. Akira, you will create a schedule for her new tutoring sessions. Computers, history, mathematics... etc. Understood?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"Along with her Mars Fire lessons, Reika will start working with her on Archery and Spiritual Projection. Ora continues with the Thunder and Lightning but starts incorporating Martial Arts. Please don't overdo it."

"Yes, ma'am."

"Finally, Psyche, on top of the Empathic Energy that you've been working with her on, you will star teaching her about Diplomatic Relations and Mediation."

"What's this about an Earth Miko?" Lady Chyra from Pluto inquired, raising her hand, "I'm confused on what this has to do with the Princess's training."

"Earth Mikos are spiritual healers and they don't have a Silver Crystal inside them, nor are they surrounded by Selenium. If we can get someone up here who could teach her how to do it without those crutches, it would be an advantage for her in an emergency."

"I like it."

"Sorry for the intrusion." They looked around as Toga and Inukimi came in, "Has anyone seen Sesshomaru? We have an emergency on Earth. Stupid dragons are trying to take more land than what belongs to them."

"Including yours?" Illarion shook his head as Toga nodded in the affirmative, "Idiots."

"Agreed. So, we need to get down there, like now."

"I believe that I saw him go to the Observatory with the Princess." Psyche smiled, "I think it's cute that they spend so much time together. I can't wait to see what happens as they get older. It's going to be interesting."

"All around." Serenity agreed as she looked at her childhood friend, "And we are more than looking forward to it."
