People just don't understand how hard it is to be 'perfect'. You always have these annoying adults hanging around you, praising you, suffocating you. 'He's such a dear' they say, 'What an amazing child' they say. But they don't understand.

It's a lonely road one walks, one who's the best. People either stand in awe of you or despise you out of jealously. Either way, they don't approach you. Even so, a genius has to do his best to deal with the people around him. He has to plaster a false smile on his face everytime someone fakes a 'Good morning' or 'How are you doing?'. Eventually your face begins to hurt and you despise smiling, just as they despise you.

My parents often found it odd how a 'perfect' son like me had so little friends. They said it was a phase I'm going through, and that it's because the people I went to school with were too incompetent for me. That I'll make a whole bunch of new friends once I went to college.

But that didn't happen. Harvard was even worse. People glared their silly-attempts-at-glares and sneered. Amongst the crowd of intellects, I was still the 'genius'. The age difference didn't help much either. I was also the baby.

Then one day, something happened. I was eating lunch alone, as usual. A student, younger than some of the others, came up to my table and sat down. He said, in Japanese, "You're Japanese right? I've seen you around, you're always by yourself. Let me introduce myself, my name is Kuroyanagi Ryou."

Eventually, we started hanging out together, and I realized, I've finally made a friend. A real one.

And in that instant, life became just a bit more bearable.
