And here we go with a nice wrap up after a chapter of heavy combat. As promised, you'll find out what Salem was having those Grimm do for her. The people really familiar with a Certain Magical Index will probably know already, everyone else will get to learn something new. Though, right now, Salem isn't the main threat. Another threat is coming up from the shadows where pure brute force might not be capable of solving. Some people are going to have to learn to be social. Now, you all know the drill by now. Reponses to comments and then to the chapter.
PheonixX09: Accelerator takes some build up, but I made sure he got a scene of his own here. It's going to lead to more fun later.
Majin Othinus: Hmm, I feel this story might need a swimsuit arc.
DN Works: I wonder if there's a magical theory that uses false idols to do things?
Guest: A very specific one.
SlothDGod: No explosions for you.
Nesthor5000: Understand, when you cross two different series, not everything goes together smoothly. There will be situations where contradictions appear. Things won't blend together smoothly in a lot of situations. Also, Ozpin was a warrior. He wasn't a politician. Of course he's going to make stupid decisions. He was given an impossible task by some evil gods who tortured a woman who showed they weren't perfect and performed genocide. Salem is far more powerful than Ozpin and has experience manipulating people for much longer. As for dust, I have the same theories of the first two. The third option is interesting through.
lapidot16: Why make that an omake when all they have to do is ask a giant blue woman?
KnT: Maybe…
Guest: Jinn would ask Touma not to touch the lamp and Ambrosia would try to examine his hand.
Angelfusion: You seem to be confused about the progress. The relics are indeed in the vaults. Those items Salem had the Grimm get were not magical in any way. As for the Grimm, they weren't that strong. Just required more than, slashing them with a sword. Kids are still students and need to train more. They aren't going to be irrelevant. Canon RWBY wrote themselves into a corner and that's why writers had to send them to that new place at the end of the last season. We could go on a lot about what is wrong with RWBY.
Warstar47: Good guess.
Saiyanwarrior22: You should pay attention in class.
Sarcasm Sage 626: I had fun with the Grimm fights for sure. There's only so many ways I can say how Ruby slashed up a Beowolf. I needed something that made fights last longer. Team JNPR got their exercise running around and protecting people like they would prefer to do. The stealth Grimm wasn't made to fight. It snuck behind enemy lines and assassinated or steals. Once it was surrounded, it had to escape.
Disclaimer: I do not own Toaru Majutsu no Index or RWBY.
"I have to say, you three did well."
Ozpin was sitting at his desk as Jaune, Ruby, and Touma were sitting across from him. As much as their missions were a success, none of them were really happy with how things ended. They were supposed to assist with Grimm extermination, which their teams did. It was just they had so many more questions come about because of the way the mutated Grimm acted. All three of the team leaders had already shared information with each other, and now they had just finished telling Ozpin.
"From what you explained to me," Ozpin continued. "All three of those Grimm were mutated to fulfill certain objectives. The damage they could have caused is unimaginable to the outer settlements. Let me say, I'm proud of all of you."
"I'm sorry we let ours get away." Jaune apologized.
"Same," Touma muttered.
"Stealth Grimm are not new, Mr. Kamijou," Ozpin assured him. "General Taupe and his men should have had defenses in place to detect them. They were focused on the larger assault, something to be expected. Now that he knows, I doubt any Grimm with camouflage capabilities will slip past him."
The man turned to Jaune.
"You protected a town from a swarm of Night Dancers. That's something to be proud of. Without you and your team there, people would have died. That village was not ready for an attack of that magnitude. Even with Linn there."
"Who is she?" Jaune asked. "Nora sort of became pen pals with her because she looks up to her. Linn nearly cut that giant Night Dancer in half."
"Linn Scarlet is a former student of Beacon," Ozpin explained. "She protected a great number of villages from Grimm attacks and eventually settled down there. I am in touch with her and she keeps me updated on what's happening in her neck of the woods."
"No wonder you know where these mutated Grimm were." Ruby pointed out.
"Indeed, Miss Rose. There is always a limit to what one person can do by themselves. It's okay to ask for help when you encounter a situation beyond your abilities. Huntsman and Huntresses work together for that very reason. It's why I did that experiment with you learning to lead other teams." Ruby flinched, as she was still slightly traumatized from that.
"Former Huntress," Jaune mumbled. "No wonder she was so powerful."
"What I'm more concerned about is not that the Grimm escaped, but what these Grimm were doing," Ozpin intertwined his fingers in thought as he leaned back in his chair. "The Grimm you faced, Mr. Kamijou. You called it an Abomination, was it?"
"It's something we've seen in video games in my world," Touma explained. "Normally with undead being stitched together from various bodies. It just sort of fits, since even Neo agreed it resembled a patch up of different Grimm."
"We got those in some of our games here too." Jaune informed him.
"And it stole a lamp," Ruby reminded them. "The Wereursa we were fighting said something about 'it not being here.' So it had to be looking for something too."
"While our Grimm stole a staff," Jaune recited. "They aren't going after people, but objects."
"And that is what is concerning," Ozpin pointed out, stone-faced. "Grimm do not search for things. They are creatures of darkness that hunt humanity. For them to suddenly do this indicates Wellen has a much firmer control over them than we are aware."
"What does he want with these random items?" Ruby asked.
"I doubt they are random."
Ozpin, Ruby, and Jaune turned to Touma who had his arms crossed and an expression of deep concentration. When he heard those items were stolen in the first place, only one reason came to mind. Wellen was a magician and magicians could use mundane items as foci for their spells. Items with more historical or religious value would be a better focus for magic. Touma did not know how magicians used magic exactly, but he had a basic understanding of the theoretical aspect.
"I think Wellen targeted them specifically for a spell he's designing," Touma continued. "Do you know if there are any important religious, historical, fairy tales, or really any stories or beliefs that involve a staff and lamp?"
"Uhhh…." Ruby and Jaune racked their brains for a moment.
However, Ozpin's face had grown ever so pale, as if the blood was draining away. Not enough for the kids to notice, as they were all thinking about the situation themselves.
"I think there's a story with a lamp that grants wishes?" Ruby replied. "A kid's story."
"Ah, I remember that one too." Jaune remembered.
"There are actually a lot of stories that fit those criteria, Mr. Kamijou." Ozpin declared softly, his expression unreadable. "Could you elaborate on why such things are important?"
"Idol Theory."
After racking his brain, that seemed to be the most likely answer.
"Idol Theory?" Ozpin asked, tilting his head slightly.
"Magic from my world works on belief," Touma explained. "Well, that's really an extreme oversimplification, but something like that. Idol Theory is when a magician takes a symbolic item from a story and makes a replica of it to gain part of its power. Do you guys have solar power here?"
"Yes, but it's not commonly used," Ozpin informed him. "Dust is much more efficient, but some places that find it hard to get Dust delivered would use other power sources."
"It's kind of like how that works," Touma figured this would be the best way to explain it. "The sun has a lot of energy, but when the solar panels absorb the light, we only get a little energy. It's not the original. Idol Theory is like that. You only get part of the power."
"So those objects could become super powered weapons?" Jaune blurted out.
"I've seen a few powerful items," Touma admitted slowly, remembering his encounters back home. "I'll make up a story involving Grimm. Let's say there was a hero of light who wielded a staff. He might have been incredibly powerful in this story where he could use light to vanquish hordes of Grimm. Someone using Idol Theory to recreate his staff would get a fraction of that power. The magician might create a staff that can just destroy nearby Grimm with impunity."
"Like, how small of a fraction?" Ruby inquired curiously.
"I don't know, as I'm not a magician, but I bet it varies from person to person." Touma admitted apologetically. "Sorry, you know my hand cancels out anything supernatural, so I never got to learn the details."
"It's not your fault!" Ruby assured him. "I'm just really interested in this magic and wanted to know."
"Wish I could give you more information on it then." Touma gave her a weak chuckle as he spoke.
Ozpin didn't seem as amused.
In fact, he seemed a little unnerved.
"So that's why I asked about the stories," Touma turned back to Ozpin. "If we know any legends that involve a staff and a lamp, we might be able to figure out what he's planning."
"I do recall a few stories that involve a lamp and a staff," Ozpin mumbled, staring up at the ceiling. "Remnant has a lot of patchwork beliefs and folklore that got passed on. Things can be… blurry. I'll see what I can dig up."
"Is something wrong?" Touma asked suddenly. "You have the same look I've seen when people are hiding something important."
"Are you, Professor?" Ruby asked, surprised. "Why?"
Ozpin let out a long sigh.
"Let's just say I'm a little worried about what could be done with the powers of artifacts from even simple fairy tales. If a lamp grants wishes, how much of that power could be derived from the lamp that was stolen."
"I'm surprised this Wellen guy would know a lot about our stories," Jaune spoke up. "He hasn't been here that long to study them. Do you think he's working with someone?"
"Ah!" Ruby suddenly jumped to her feet. "I just remembered!"
"What is, Miss Rose?" Ozpin asked, focusing on her. "Something important to this topic?"
"On our first mission, with the enhanced Beowolf," Ruby rattled on. "Yang mentioned Wellen used the Beowolf to communicate and mentioned a name… it was…" She snapped her fingers a couple of times as she tried to remember. "Sa…lem. That's it. Salem!"
Touma had the feeling Ozpin knew that name. There was a flash of recognition in the man's eyes along with her expression growing grim. Yet it passed so fast, Touma might have imagined it.
"I'm surprised you didn't tell me this before." Ozpin stated. "We could have investigated this lead."
"We forgot…" Ruby muttered, her cheeks turning pink. "I know they asked Uncle Qrow, but he said it sounded like a mad man ranting and just to ignore it."
"I see…" Ozpin seemed thoughtful. "I'll look up some stories about a staff and lamp and see if there's anything that fits with what you found. I appreciate all the work you and your teams have done these last few days. You should be proud."
"Thank you, sir." The three kids told him before being dismissed. When the door shut behind them, Ozpin stood up and walked over to the window.
He had not been honest with them.
Yes, they had all performed admirable and did well. His dishonesty was related to the objects and the connection to Salem. Qrow had told him what Wellen let slip, and now all the pieces were fitting together. They had hoped Team RWBY would have forgotten. With the Queen of Grimm backing Wellen up, it would be easy for that magician to gather control over the Grimm. Along with learning about Remnant's history and religions. That had been problematic enough when Touma had explained magic to the best of his ability.
This Idol Theory was a huge problem.
A report had reached his ears. While the kids were away on their missions, there had been a break in at Vale's Museum of History. One night, a woman dressed all in black had snuck in and stolen a single item. Police were baffled why someone would sneak in to take this one item, when it wasn't the most priceless item there. It was gold with some gems, so it was worth a lot, but there were so many other items just as valuable. The item just had a lot of historical significance.
The crown of the last king of Vale who ended the Great War.
Someone Ozpin knew more than anyone else could imagine.
"So Salem is trying to gather relic substitutes," The man muttered, staring out of his tower. That was another lie he told the students. He knew exactly what story those items were connected to. "What kind of power could you gain from them? If Mr. Kamijou is right and it seems he is, all that you have left to gather is a sword. From what I know of you, not just any sword will do. You want something of significance…"
Things were already bad enough and now Salem might have some powerful relics of her own soon. Ozpin didn't know how long it would take to create them using Idol Theory, and Touma didn't know either, as he wasn't a magician. His hand must be magic of some kind though. It had affected his curse with a mere touch, more than his or Salem's magic could ever do. Let alone what that monster he caught a glimpse of was.
"Things just get more and more complicated." Ozpin sighed loudly. "I'll have to warn the others soon enough. James is not going to appreciate me keeping the fact that other universes exist a secret."
Across Remnant, in the remains of an old dark castle, Salem and her servants sat at a large table. In the background, a large pool of pitch black sludge bubbled and stewed. Countless Grimm mulled around in the barren landscape of jagged stone and crystals.
"Things have progressed well," Salem stated. "I was worried the Grimm were released a little prematurely, but they succeeded in their objectives. The items are on their way back. Cinder also performed her task to my specifications. The Crown of Vale was the final piece needed."
"I do require a sword if I am to complete these items," Arthur Watts reminded her, twirling his mustache. "We need all four at once because of how the relics were created."
"Do not fret about such trivial matters," Salem assured him, her black and red eyes looking almost amused. "The sword to be used is already safely in my possession."
"Hahaha!" The crazed, scorpion Faunus Tyrian laughed. "Of course our Queen would have this solved. You shouldn't have doubted her!"
"I have never doubted her," Arthur replied calmly. "This magic system is unusual to me, and I am working under… difficult circumstances."
"Are you able to do it?" Across the table a big burly man with brown hair, Hazel, sat with his arms crossed. "Otherwise, those Grimm were revealed for nothing."
"There should be no doubt… it will work," Arthur replied slowly. "The myth of the four relics is indeed true and we have the full story from someone who was there." He gestured to Salem. "It's just, I don't know what exactly the outcome will be. All the information I have doesn't explain it in detail. Wellen Fischer's mind is a mess and gathering information has been… problematic."
"He's not right in the head!" Tyrian burst out laughing and pounded the table.
"Enough." Tyrian went silent the moment Salem stated that single word and held up a hand. "Arthur, once you have all the materials, cast that spell and use this Idol Theory to craft new relics. They will give us the upper hand against Ozma and there is nothing he can do about it. Cinder, meanwhile, will ensure your virus is used to disturb Vale and cause the downfall of Beacon."
"I'm still not a huge fan of this plan." Hazel muttered.
"Sometimes, you must sacrifice things for the greater good." Salem assured him. "Had Ozma not started this war, things would never have escalated." She turned to her left and reached out. "I do feel slightly bad for poor Wellen, but his information had no doubt been quite beneficial."
A floating jellyfish like Grimm hovered in the air next to her. The top part had a clear membrane that almost looked like a bowl. Inside the creature, a human brain sat, surrounded by dark water. A few bubbles floated up as the Grimm slowly moved over to Arthur.
"You have full use of Wellen's memories," Salem told the man. "I'm using his body to see if it still has some use."
"You will be pleased with the results." Arthur stood up and bowed.
"Or else I'll make sure you regret those words." Tyrian whispered. "No one displeases the Queen."
"I guess I can research some Atlas stories involving a staff and a lamp." Weiss agreed, as all of Team RWBY, Team JNPR, and Team TAN minus Neo discussed what the leaders had talked with Ozpin about. They were all mulling around Team RWBY's room at the moment. "Atlas symbol is off a staff after all. There has to be something."
"I can do the same with Mistralian lore." Pyrrha volunteered.
"Can it be any kind of stories or legends?" Blake asked Touma. "Fictional or historical?"
"As far as I know, yes." Touma gave her a brief nod. "I know this information is kind of vague, but I really don't have any specifics to be able to explain much more."
"It's fine," Ruby assured him again. "Most people don't know how Dust operates beyond seeing it used. Nothing to be ashamed of." Weiss opened her mouth, but Ruby stepped on her foot.
"Yeah, but Wellen's from our world and is causing a lot of problems in yours, partially due to our interference."
"It was your damn fault." Accelerator added helpfully.
"There's no way you could have predicted it." Pyrrha pointed out. "From what you told us, he had captured Last Order, so you both did what you had to do to save her."
"Speaking of, I haven't seen her since we got back." Weiss added, looking around. Accelerator noticed she almost looked lonely. That girl really liked watching over Last Order.
"She's always at the ginger's place." Accelerator replied. Last Order had grown really attached to Penny for multiple reasons. Once, they were both made over being born. Even if one was a clone and one a robot, they didn't have a normal birth. Second, they both had quirks that while others may find weird, they didn't. "Speaking of, the brat sent me a message saying I should visit her when I'm free."
"You can go if you want," Weiss pointed out to him. "I don't think you know about any stories on Remnant dealing with the present situation."
"Let the nerds deal with it." Yang snickered, earning a punch from her partner. "Ow, Blake. Learn to hold back."
"I've been dealing with Neo too much to do that." Blake's words oozed sarcasm.
"Speaking of, where is the midget?"
"Understand if she hears you call her that, I am under no obligation to protect you." Touma warned instantly, looking around in a panic. Accelerator chuckled once as he left. There were times even the damn hero amused him.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll deal," Yang rolled her eyes, but her body tensed up automatically in preparation. Part of her expected the multicolor girl to jump out and stab her. "So where is she?"
"She's in the training room," Touma answered. "Since we got back, she mentioned she's rusty and wanted to fix that." Her exact words weren't as nice, so he paraphrased a little.
'My skills are rusty because I've been beating up weaklings. I should never have been surprised by that Grimm.'
Yang and Blake didn't need to know what Neo said about them.
"Reading is boooorrriiinnnggg!" Nora complained, flopping down on Weiss' bed.
"While I think it's good we have an understanding of what stories might apply," Ren spoke up at last. "We need to remember that this is all speculation. It allows us to be prepared, but we should be flexible in whatever outcome we face."
"We might need to focus on training more, especially working together." Jaune decided, rubbing his chin. "These new Grimm required teamwork, unlike a lot of the ones we are used to."
"Did you have a couple ideas?" Pyrrha asked curiously.
"Some I was planning on using in the Vytal festival." Jaune rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Just a few combinations we could use."
"I would love to see them."
"Don't show them here!" Nora blurted out. "That's super-secret Team JNPR info!"
"Huh?" Jaune couldn't resist laughing. "Ruby has a list of training ideas too."
"And they are super-secret Team RWBY info." Ruby stuck out her tongue.
"So that's what that note book is for," Weiss recalled. "I thought it was your doodles during Professor Port's class."
"I work out kinks when I have free time." The young leader protested.
"So I think the consensus here is to research what we can when we have time," Pyrrha recited. "While doubling up on our training to prepare for what is coming."
"Sounds about right, P-money." Yang agreed. "Though, after our mission, I don't think I'm going to do much. Kind of tired and it's important to rest."
"That is true," Ren agreed. "I had to stop Nora from trying to imitate Lynn on the school's training bots."
"I could have cut it in half, well smash it." Nora giggled. Her mace wasn't a sword and didn't have a sharp edge.
"If you want to rest, why not come to the library with me?" Blake asked sweetly, a small grin on her face. "Reading would do you some good, it's relaxing, and will help us out."
There was a pause as the blonde considered this.
"Umm, I just realized I promised… Coco, I would meet up with her. Sorry!" Yang rushed to the door. "I'll catch you all later!" The door slammed behind her.
"You did that on purpose knowing she wouldn't bother you in the library now, didn't you?" Touma accused Blake, raising an eyebrow.
"I have no idea what you're talking about." The raven haired girl replied.
That earned a round of laughter from the others.
"I am going to the library," Blake continued. "Yang is right. We do need a break. She showed me what happens when I push myself too hard. Reading is how I relax and if I have to read new genres?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe I'll find out I like it." She left the room with a wave.
"Jaune and I didn't have it quite as bad," Pyrrha admitted. "We are going to do some light training."
"More technique then physical exertion." Jaune told them.
"Insert Yang joke here." Touma whispered, causing them all to laugh and Pyrrha to blush. Even Ruby chuckled along.
"How come you can tell better jokes than my sister?" Ruby asked.
"I'm just naturally funny."
Nora snorted loudly at that as Jaune and Pyrrha got up to leave. When they left the room, the ginger rushed after them and shouted down the hall.
"Behave yourselves! Don't do anything naughty!"
"NORA!" Both teens cried back indignantly as Nora came back laughing.
"Sorry, I've been wanting to do that for some time."
"We know our plan," Ren stood up as he talked. "Nora, you wanted to go into town for some supplies, right?"
"Yep, we need pancake mix." Nora agreed.
"And some fruit and herbs for my shakes."
"Do we have to?"
"Yes, Nora."
"I heard you make some kind of healthy smoothies," Touma told him. "Can I try one?"
"Sure." Ren actually seemed a little pleased someone was willing to try it as everyone else except Weiss was shaking their heads. "I'll make you one."
"Thanks." Touma waved to him and was a little surprised as Nora was mouthing for him not to. When he turned back, he noticed everyone looking at him. "What?"
"Ren's smoothies are… not tasty." Ruby explained delicately.
"Eh, I'm sure it's fine." Touma dismissed their concerns and stood up. "I'm going to find Neo. She'll cause trouble if left alone too long." He left and bid them goodbye, leaving Ruby and Weiss alone.
"Sooooo?" Ruby asked. "Want to do something together, Bestie?"
"No."
"Whyyyyy noootttt?" Ruby whined. "We're partners. We should do stuff together."
"I'll do something with you," Weiss corrected. "My homework is done, I'm caught up on training, and everyone is right about resting our bodies. No refers to your nickname."
"But it's such a good nickname!"
"As I said, no."
When Accelerator entered Penny's dorm room, he only expected to see Last Order and Penny. Not the older sister of his girlfriend there, playing video games along with them. Winter was still in her Atlas uniform, but was obviously getting a little flustered at losing to a little girl. From what Accelerator understood, Penny had requested a game station to play with Last Order. Atlas had indulged, probably more so for them keeping the robotic creation a secret.
"What was so important, brat?" Accelerator asked, ignoring Winter.
"Winter here wanted to talk to you, MISAKA replies as MISAKA greets you. She said she had something important to discuss and you told MISAKA not to pass out your Scroll number."
At least she remembered that.
"You could have just said that?" Accelerator pointed out annoyed.
"If MISAKA did so, we both know you wouldn't come, MISAKA states smugly." Last Order turned around and true to her words she wore a picture of pure smugness on her face. The resemblance to her older sister was uncanny. At the same time, the boy knew she was right.
"About what?" This time, Accelerator addressed Winter directly. The woman put down the remote and turned to him.
Winter coughed and spoke at last.
"After some discussion with General Ironwood and Dr. Polendina about your creations of the Portable Shield Generator," Winter had her arms behind her back and was reciting the words in a monotone that showed this had been rehearsed. "It was decided to formally request your cooperation in possibly assisting Dr. Polendina with his research. Atlas of course will fully fund all projects and-…"
"No."
Accelerator's response was curt and to the point.
"Pardon?" Winter looked a little shocked at the interruption, but quickly masked her confusion.
"I have no interest in joining Atlas or becoming a lapdog for them."
"Ah…" Winter realized the confusion. "I misspoke. We are not asking you to leave Beacon and join Atlas, but simply work with Dr. Polendina on his projects. You will still be a full time student at Beacon and your involvement will be strictly part time. Compensation can be discussed should you decide to."
"Not interested." Accelerator told her. Being told what to work on, forced to design things he didn't want to do? That didn't appeal to him.
"Are you sure? MISAKA asks quietly." Last Order and Penny had stopped playing and were listening in. "Aren't you complaining about being bored except for killing a few Grimm now and then? MISAKA continues to pry as MISAKA reminds you of your own words."
"My father spoke highly of your invention when we last spoke," Penny added. "He was hoping you would agree so the two of you could improve existing technology and make Remnant safer for everyone."
That last little bit struck a chord in Accelerator, even if he didn't want it to. Last Order was family and was stuck on Remnant with him and the hero. She couldn't really protect herself from Grimm. While a few Grimm were nothing to him, the sheer amount of Grimm in this world didn't really register until their mission. Seeing how many Grimm could throw themselves at a heavily armed fortress and not have it make a dent in their population was concerning. The kingdoms were really fighting a losing battle. At the same time, it wasn't his world, so he shouldn't care and instead be focusing on returning home.
At least, the old him would have done that.
There were people he actually liked here and cared about from Remnant now. Especially his girlfriend, which still felt and sounded weird every time he said that, mentally or physically. If he was stuck here, having a source of income wouldn't hurt either. It would provide basic necessities for him and Last Order at least. Winter noticed Accelerator was affected by Penny's words and capitalized on that.
"The technology you develop isn't solely used in Atlas," The white haired woman continued. "Our progress gets sent to all four kingdoms, including new settlements. I believe Beacon first years just had their first assigned missions so you might have noticed how important it is to constantly improve existing technology." Atlas had hidden agents in a lot of locations that were monitoring situations. There just happened to be one at the fortress Team TAN went to. "From weapons, to transports, to security drones, all of it is part of ensuring all citizens are protected and provided for."
The fact she was trying to capitalize on his emotions actually ticked Accelerator off, even if she was right. It was only Penny's words that actually had him consider the arrangement. That girl was too nice to lie or try to manipulate him about something this serious. Anyone could tell that quickly. Accelerator observed the smiling girl who was waiting for his response.
"I don't like military personnel," Accelerator finally spat out. "People who blindly follow orders. I've seen the results of that, so I'm hesitant to trust Atlas."
Winter opened her mouth but Accelerator cut her off.
"Penny and her… father… do seem pretty straight forward though," Accelerator continued. "I might be willing to work with him if some conditions are met."
"What kind of conditions?" Winter asked, her eyebrows narrowing slightly in suspicion. "If it's about pay, that will be discussed later on with General Ironwood."
"I will work with Penny's father, not you, Ironwood, or any of your other flunkies." Accelerator told her flatly. "On projects that interest me. Don't go assigning some random thing you want pushed off to me. I'll accept suggestions and ideas, but the end decision is mine. I'll be a contractual employee at best, but not one of your lackeys."
"You understand that will be difficult?" Winter asked stiffly. "Normally, you would be working with multiple people in a secure lab. You were given a lot of special permissions to be able to stay at Beacon, based on your skills and earlier creation."
"Yes, and that seems like a small concession." Accelerator shrugged, a small smile on his face. "I need freedom to do what I want, research what I want. If I don't, I'll get pissed off and not do it. You might not have noticed, but I'm a bit of an asshole."
Last Order covered her mouth as she snickered.
"I think you are a good person though," Penny spoke up, tilting her head. "You could have blackmailed Atlas about my situation for a lot of money and technology, but chose to just promise to remain silent."
"Tsk, you're just the brat's friend is all." The albino clicked his tongue.
"MISAKA thinks you aren't being honest, MISAKA sings as MISAKA knows better."
Accelerator lightly karate chopped Last Order's head and then ignored her when she muttered something about child abuse.
"I noticed," Winter admitted, her eyes cold. "At least you're open to working with us. I'll pass your words on to General Ironwood and Dr. Polendina. They will contact you to hammer out the details if that works for you?"
"Whatever, that's fine." Accelerator held out his Scroll and Winter transferred his number. "If that's all, I'll get going." He turned to leave when he stopped. "Brat, Weiss is free today and wants to hang out with you."
"Oh, right!" Last Order jumped up. "MISAKA totally forgot! After this game MISAKA will go and hang out with Weiss, MISAKA states as MISAKA is sorry about being forgetful."
"Good."
Accelerator saw how Weiss was a little depressed. Last Order wasn't around much now that she made friends with Penny, so he figured he could help her out. Just another small thing in him that's changed since arriving on Remnant. Caring about others wasn't something he normally prioritized but everything changed since the damn hero showed up. Having a girlfriend was a lot of work, but at the same time, weirdly satisfying. When Weiss was upset, it made Accelerator feel like crap.
The albino was halfway down the hall when he heard the door to Penny's room open and close, before a female voice called out to him.
"Hold on one moment, Accelerator."
Part of him considered ignoring Winter, but decided it would be easy enough to see what she wanted. Accelerator stopped and turned around. Winter walked up to him and eyed the boy up and down slowly, like she was trying to identify something.
"I thought we cleared everything up?" Accelerator asked curtly. "What's the problem? You guys have my Scroll number."
"This issue is purely private and doesn't have anything to do with work or Atlas," Winter answered, her words stiff. "This is about Weiss."
Accelerator immediately stiffened up as he heard this. Of course she would talk about this. From what Weiss said about her older sister, she was protective of her. Those two also shared everything, so Weiss no doubt told Winter they were dating. Accelerator and Winter's first meeting could have gone better. He had been a little rude because of his distrust for the military and people in charge. Academy City had shown him firsthand the true nature of people striving for power. They don't care who they step on.
The fact it took Winter this long to confront him was a little surprising.
"What about her?" Accelerator wasn't going to give anything up. Anything they discussed would be brought up by her. Normally, the boy wouldn't even bother answering someone, but Weiss really cared about her sister. The least he could do was show her a little respect.
"I want to talk to you about your relationship with my sister."
Yep, his prediction was right on point.
"Saw this coming," Accelerator sighed as he prepared himself for this. "What about it?"
"I want to know what your intentions are," Winter stated plainly. "What do you expect to get out of this and where do you plan for it to go?"
Accelerator clicked his tongue. He really didn't want to talk about this, let alone with Winter who seemed to be a military stooge. This was only complicated because it was Weiss' sister. Trying to navigate things without revealing too much was going to be a challenge. At least Penny's dorm room was out of the way, so the hallway was empty. Though he could see the door open a crack and some eyes peeking out.
"We're in the process of seeing where things go," The boy answered at last. "If it will even work at all."
"So you're not serious?" Winter asked, her expression hardening even more. Those blue eyes flashed with anger. "Are you stringing her along?"
"No and if you suggest that again, you might as well fuck off." Accelerator snapped. Winter actually looked surprised as her eyes widened. Then, to the boy's surprise, she let out a sigh of relief.
"That's good," Winter's voice had grown softer. Maybe she could tell his anger was genuine. "She mentioned she asked you out and took some prying before you said yes. I was worried you just agreed to string her along. If that was the case, I would do something about it."
If anyone else said that to him, Accelerator would have laughed in their faces and blown them away.
"Yeah, that's true, she did." The albino rubbed the back of his head. "You can probably tell I'm not good with people, but I would never agree to date someone who I disliked. Too much of a pain."
"Then why did you agree?" Winter prodded.
"I'm still trying to work that out myself," Accelerator mumbled, more to himself. "But… she's important to me. Is that good enough for you?"
There was a pause before he received a response.
"One more question," Winter said at last. "If someone hurt her, what would you do?"
"I would make them regret it."
Those words would have caused even adult men to soil themselves, but Winter didn't even flinch. In fact, she seemed to be impressed with his answer. At the very least, satisfied. Her head nodded after he spoke.
"We'll have to talk later, but it doesn't sound like you're playing around." Winter told him. "You seem to be serious in seeing where things lead to. I wish I had time to talk with you more, since we didn't get off on the right foot."
"No, I guess we didn't." Accelerator agreed. "I should have been a little nicer, sorry about that."
There was a gasp from the cracked open door and Accelerator narrowed his eyes toward the eavesdroppers. Last Order and Penny quickly hid. It was difficult to get an apology from Accelerator. Few people could do that. Yet he apologized to someone who actively bothered him. Maybe it was because they could both tell the other cared about Weiss that it was easier.
"So you do have manners." Winter smiled at her little joke. "Maybe the three of us can get together sometime while I'm in Vale and I'll share a few stories from when she was younger. Older sister privilege."
Flashbacks of Yang teasing Ruby in front of everyone ran through Accelerator's mind. It was so childish to do so. So why did it amuse him so much? So much so that he was actually grinning.
"I look forward to it."
"Ozpin, what were you thinking in agreeing to this?" Ironwood demanded.
General James Ironwood was pacing in front of Ozpin's office desk, with Qrow sitting in a chair and Glynda standing up next to him, looking like she was gaining a serious migraine. Ozpin meanwhile was sitting behind his desk and watched his ally silently as he vented.
"You reached out to the leader of a terrorist organization, agreed to meet them publically, all without letting me know?"
"I'm letting you know now, James." Ozpin pointed out calmly. "Besides, she was the one who reached out to me."
"Not the point!" The General barked.
"And I doubt they consider themselves a terrorist organization." Qrow added, sipping at his flask. "More of a freedom fighter group."
"I'm not here to argue semantics, Qrow." Ironwood snapped. "The White Fang is a recognized terrorist organization."
"Perhaps we should take this chance to change that," Ozpin tapped his fingers on his desk. "The fact she reached out to me, over just sending threatening messages like they do to Atlas, shows something has changed." The man leaned forward. "Tell me, James. Has Sienna Khan ever contacted you and asked for a formal meeting?"
"She won't because she knows I won't accept!" Ironwood pounded his fist on the desk.
"Control yourself, you're in the presence of the headmaster." Glynda warned sharply, pushing her glasses up.
"I… apologized, Glynda." Ironwood muttered before turning back to Ozpin. "We have laws for a reason, Ozpin. If we ignore the ones we don't like, we'll fall into anarchy."
"At the same time, if the laws don't protect all individuals, what good are they?" Ozpin countered. "You can argue the laws are fair in theory, but in practice, we have all seen the unfair treatment of Faunus. Many of them in Atlas live in poverty, being taken advantage of by corporations who you allow to continue." Ironwood was about to interrupt, but Ozpin raised his hand. "I know all the excuses, James. Increased prices due to higher wages, Dust shortages, more arrests, all of which cause negative emotions that attract Grimm. I did not bring you to debate these issues."
"We're here because of that strange request, Sienna Khan demanded in order to meet up?" Qrow asked, pushing back so he was balanced on the back two legs of his chair.
"Yes, I'm curious as to why she would ask for this." Ozpin agreed.
"Does the council know?" Ironwood asked.
"No, I simply informed them about my plans to meet her." Ozpin answered simply. "As a member and headmaster of Beacon, I have the authority to make formal meetings, even with terrorist leaders as long as I believe it's for the good of Vale. So please do not cause a scene. This is legal according to Vale laws and you do not have authority to operate without permission on Vale matters."
"I know!" Ironwood's voice grew loud for a moment before he composed himself. "I just want to know, if you think this is wise?"
"I think it's something that has been needed for quite some time," Ozpin admitted quietly. "If we continue to ignore the plight of the oppressed, they will only lash out more. There is a chance we might be able to avoid more bloodshed. I wish to pursue that option."
"What about the bloodshed they already caused?" Ironwood asked. "The people they killed in cold blood."
"What about the Faunus Atlas has killed the same way?" Qrow asked solemnly. "Will they get justice for that?"
"They-…"
"James!" Glynda interrupted. "Qrow! Regardless of your feelings on the subject, Sienna Khan has reached out toward the headmaster to propose meeting using formal channels. Ozpin has accepted and thus this meeting can happen. We just have to decide if we want to meet her unusual demand to forge ahead with the meeting."
There was a knock on the door.
"Speaking of which," Ozpin turned to the door. "Come in!"
The door creaked open and Touma stepped inside cautiously.
"You wanted to speak to me, sir?" It didn't escape the boy's notice that Qrow, Ironwood, and Glynda were all there. Glynda and Ironwood didn't seem to be in a good mood, but Qrow gave him a reassuring smile and nod.
"Ah yes, please. Have a seat." Ozpin gestured to a chair and Touma sat down. "Mr. Kamijou. An issue has recently come to our attention." The boy looked confused, so that was a clear indication he had no knowledge of what they were about to discuss. "Shortly after the first years, including yourself, finished their mission, we received an interesting message. Sienna Khan, leader of the White Fang, requested an audience with me."
"Sienna Khan?!" Touma choked out.
"Are you acquainted with her?" Ironwood asked instantly.
"I… er…" Touma fumbled for an answer. Ozpin didn't know about his little impromptu trip to the White Fang base or the multitude of rules his friends broke rescuing him and Jaune. "I know of her."
"We aren't going to get anywhere if you lie to us." Ironwood growled.
"James." Warning rang in Ozpin's voice as Ironwood went silent. "Mr. Kamijou." His voice suddenly grew calm and in control. "I want to tell you now, anything you say here is confidential and you or anyone else will not be punished or investigated for anything you've done involving her. We need to know your relationship with her. It's something of utmost importance."
Touma was confused as he moved his gaze from each adult in turn to the next one, ending on Qrow.
"Might as well tell him, kid. Oz is right. This could be the start of something big."
"It's kind of complicated and everything took some weird turns," Touma admitted, rubbing the back of his head. "I met her because of a huge misunderstanding. For some reason, some White Fang members thought I was a dragon Faunus. I guess that's a big thing for them?"
"Why?" Ironwood asked instantly. "You're a human, are you not?"
"I am," Touma confirmed instantly .That was completely true. "So while I was at a club with Jaune and Mercury, some low ranking members kidnapped Jaune and me while we were using the bathroom."
Ironwood opened his mouth with a triumphant look on his face, when Glynda discreetly plowed her heel into his foot.
"Go on." Ozpin waved his hand to continue.
"Some things happened and Jaune and I met her at a hidden base outside of Vale," The boy explained. "Some of our friends managed to rescue us and… I'm pretty sure Sienna hates my guts and wants me dead."
"Why do you say that?" Ozpin raised an eyebrow. This didn't fit with what he was picturing.
"Well, she never ordered my kidnapping, but knew me due to some rumors about an earlier mission I was on," Touma explained. "The White Fang members who were responsible thought they were helping by bringing me to her. Things didn't go as she wanted and Jaune and I were locked up for a bit before we escaped and she could interrogate us more."
"And she doesn't like you for escaping her grasp?" Ozpin hummed. "That doesn't seem like that would elicit such a reaction."
"That's one thing," Touma started counting off on his fingers. "There's also the fact I called her a hypocrite to her face, escaped after insulting her a couple other times, blew up half an airfield and several bullheads during the escape, and pretty sure a bucket of dirty mop water used to clean vomit fell on her head."
Silence followed his words as all four adults stared at him.
"Yeah, we don't really like each other." Touma summarized.
"BAHAHAAHA-…"
CRASH!
Qrow had started laughing and fell back out of his chair, slamming into the floor. He pushed himself up, still sporting a huge amused grin.
"Oh, that is rich, no wonder she demanded you show up, kid."
"Wait, what?!" Touma yelped. "What do you mean by that?"
"I guess the cat's out of the bag," Ozpin sighed wearily. "As part of the condition for a small get together, Sienna stated she wanted some students of Beacon there as a show of support. Specifically you."
The blood flowing out of the boy's face caused his skill to grow deathly pale.
"You will not be forced to go." Glynda told him. "But I suggest you consider it at least. This is a big step as Sienna Khan, since being labeled a terrorist, has never come out into the open like this. It took a lot of work to get this set up… even if some people run the risk of causing a disturbance." Her eyes flashed as she glanced at Ironwood.
"I have agreed I will not interfere, but I will provide security to ensure nothing happens." Ironwood replied gruffly. "Based on the boy's explanation, it seems she is after him for personal grudges."
"We'll have to see." Ozpin nodded in affirmation. "Mr. Kamijou. Thank you for telling us. Please let me know by tomorrow if you wish to attend. I would like you to, but if you decide against it, we will accept your decision."
"I'll… think about it." Touma promised, still in a daze. "Thank you for letting me know."
"One more thing," Ozpin continued. "This is a formal event. You may bring a plus one, but consider the environment. There will be wealthy and influential people there. Some of your friends might be tempted to do something that would not look well in the media's eyes."
Touma's ashen face, if possible, grew even paler.
A certain multicolored girl would not be happy with this news.
"Let me go!"
"Glad you told us," Yang told Touma and Ruby. "Gave us time to take precautions."
"I didn't think you meant this," The boy mumbled. "Sorry, Blake."
Blake was currently tied to a chair in Team TAN's room. Yang and Weiss had gone all out and she wasn't able to move at all. Yang had just removed the gag to allow Blake to speak. Ruby was there, as after Touma's meeting with Ozpin, he had run into her and blabbed about what happened because he had no idea how to proceed. Being the type to take initiative, Ruby called her team to help out, but had let Yang know ahead of time. Jaune and Pyrrha were also there, as Touma decided that since Jaune had met Sienna with him, he would be able to give some advice.
Neo was collapsed on the bed and was laughing at Blake's predicament.
Accelerator was off somewhere on his own, but none of them figured he would be interested in something like this.
"I seriously doubt Sienna wants you there for good intentions," Jaune admitted, looking apologetic but also relieved he wasn't asked to come. "After that argument and our escape."
"Yeah, my thoughts too," Touma agreed. "The problem is, would this meeting actually be beneficial? If I don't go, there's a chance Sienna won't either."
"I think it would." Pyrrha had been messaging someone on her Scroll for the past few minutes. "The White Fang has a very bad reputation. Mostly due to propaganda, but also from some of their violent acts." She looked apologetic at Blake. "If Ozpin can help show they are actually just like everyone else and they were just pushed to the brink, then maybe we can start finding common ground."
"That's what I thought." Touma groaned. He rubbed his face with his hand. "Don't think I have much choice then." Pyrrha gave him an almost pitying look, before going back to her Scroll. Jaune raised an eyebrow. Normally his partner wouldn't be distracted like this.
"You get a plus one," Yang reminded him. "Just bring someone who can kick ass when things go bad."
"I'll-…" Blake started to say.
"No." Weiss interjected without turning around.
"It's not-…" Blake tried to say again.
"No." It was Yang's turn to cut her partner off.
"Listen-…!"
"NO!" Both Yang and Weiss snapped at her this time.
"Blake… you know you can be kind of… overzealous sometimes when the White Fang is involved." Ruby tapped her fingers together nervously. She knew this was important to her teammate. At the same time, it sounded like this meeting would be important. "It might be best for someone else to go." She really wanted to say she could, but others interrupted before she got the nerve.
"Who then?" Blake had to take a few deep breaths. "Who would you suggest going with him?"
Neo sat up on the bed and waved her hand eagerly.
"Sorry, no." Touma shook his head, not looking behind him at the multicolored girl.
The girl glared at him and gestured wildly. Pointing to herself, to him, and made some gestures about how she could fight and defend him if things went wrong,
"Ozpin said there would be some well off people attending," Touma still didn't look behind him at Neo. "Can you honestly say you won't be tempted if someone has like… a valuable necklace or bracelet?"
Neo fake gasped and put a hand on her chest like she couldn't believe he would ever think she would do such a thing.
"That didn't answer my question." Touma pointed out.
The girl puffed out her cheeks and crossed her arms.
"Thought so."
"How are you able to read her without looking?" Ruby asked, looking back and forth between them. Neo blinked and tilted her head as that just occurred to her too.
"There's a mirror right there." Touma pointed to the wall in front of him.
That got him smacked in the back of the head by Neo and a round of snickering from the others.
"So back on topic," Weiss coughed, gathering their attention. "Touma, for these kinds of formal events, you need to bring a partner. It looks bad otherwise and she might find a way to use it against you."
"Eh, wouldn't be the first time someone made fun of me for doing something dangerous." Touma shrugged nonchalantly.
"Why not just take P-money over there?" Yang jabbed a thumb in the direction of Pyrrha. "She's used to this sort of thing. And since Sienna invited you specifically, might as well put up a show when you arrive."
"You're doing this for your own amusement." Blake accused, her eyes narrowing as she struggled at her binds.
"I… can't." Pyrrha's cheeks started darkening.
"Huh?" Yang wasn't the only one who was surprised. Pretty much everyone turned toward her at those words. The champion girl would always go out of her way to help people, so why did she finally decide to be selfish?
"Is it because you and Vomit Boy are dating now?" Yang pressed for clarity. "Listen, I'm sure Jaune would be fine with you going to this party with Touma there. We all know why you're doing it."
"I would be," Jaune agreed, looking over at Pyrrha with a little confusion etched in his expression. "It would help him if Sienna tried something. She came out and admitted that if it would further her goals, she would sacrifice entire towns that did nothing."
"That attitude is one of the many reasons I left…" Blake muttered, calming down and growing quiet.
Weiss looked like she wanted to say something, but managed to hold her tongue, even if it seemed she swallowed a lemon.
"It's not that!" Pyrrha shook her head back and forth vigorously. "Of course I would normally go in these circumstances. It's just…"
"Just what?" Ruby asked as Pyrrha trialed off.
"It's just… My manager has been messaging me today about this event," Pyrrha's face was turning the color of her hair. "I don't know how he found out, but it seems like the message to Ozpin was leaked and people all over the kingdoms know."
Touma's face grew pale. He really didn't want to go now if everyone would be watching. Why was it so hard to just be a normal teenager?
"Great," The boy moaned. "So everyone knows now. I was hoping there was going to be some anonymity."
"Why does your manager care?" Weiss was the one who latched onto that specific piece of information.
"I don't know how he did it, but he contacted Vale and got me an invitation." Pyrrha diverted her eyes from everyone out of embarrassment. "He said it would be good for my reputation with my fans that are Faunus. There are a lot of girls who look up to me and if I showed that I was concerned about Faunus-Human relations, it would help give them courage to stand up and follow their dreams."
"You know he's playing you, right?" Weiss rubbed the bridge of her nose.
"I mean, he's kind of got a point." Yang shrugged. "Even if it's for his own gain."
"Yeah, I know." Pyrrha let out a long breath. "I was going to go. Though, I also have a plus one and it was suggested I bring a friend from Beacon. To encourage Beacon's support with equality. So I was kind of hoping…" Her eyes fell on Jaune, who took a second for this to process.
"I'd love to go with you." Jaune told her instantly.
"Are you sure?" Pyrrha asked worriedly. "It will most likely have news reporters who will hop on the chance to interview you. Then possibly spin it in… less flattering ways."
"We talked about this, remember?" Jaune assured her, patting her arm. "And my answer hasn't changed. All I want you to do is protect me from Sienna, because I'm sure she doesn't like me almost as much as she hates Touma."
That earned a few chuckles and Pyrrha's body immediately relaxed.
"Okay, that was fun to watch and all, but I'm getting diabetes from this." Yang groaned. Behind Touma, Neo was miming sticking a finger down her throat.
"Well, that's a relief." Touma held a hand on his chest as he breathed a sigh of relief. "At least I know I'll have friends there."
"Doesn't solve your problem about a date." Yang reminded him.
"So if Neo and Blake are out," Weiss continued. "That lowers your pool of options."
"Will there be free food and drinks there?" Yang asked, her eyes twinkling.
"I would advise not taking her even more than Blake." Weiss looked at Touma with stern eyes. "She'll cause a public display. Blake will at least keep her actions hidden until she disappears with us having no idea what happened to her."
"HEY!" Both girls cried out indignantly.
"Prove me wrong."
Yang crossed her arms and mumbled while Blake went silent. The blonde was not known for subtlety and probably would get in trouble. Her temper could be a problem when dealing with subtle insults from wealthy people. Blake had a history of running off on her own. Docks aside, she did it with Roman Torchwick and while it did have her meet Touma, she still could have died out there if he hadn't saved her. Sienna had changed the White Fang for the worse and a small part of the Faunus admitted she might not be able to control her words during these peace talks.
"I mean… I'll go."
Ruby raised her hand. Part of her was terrified. She and Touma never had a proper discussion after what happened at the dance. When they had returned, they talked to Ozpin about the Grimm they faced and then talked to their team about Idol Theory. That was more important than a silly kiss, right? She'll just pretend it didn't happen and that will work out. No one will feel awkward anymore.
It was that simple.
"Ruby…" Yang resisted the urge to roll her eyes. "You do understand these kinds of snooty parties means you'll have to dress up, act super polite, and pretend to find boring stuff funny. Without snorting."
"I don't snort!" Ruby protested. "I can act like I belong. All we'll do is attend, figure out what Sienna wants, then find a way to blend into the background until it's over."
"I'm afraid that won't work." Pyrrha told her apologetically. "If Sienna is seen talking to you, the paparazzi will try to uncover everything they can. If she is clever and this is a trap to get you in trouble, she'll manipulate the situation to her advantage. If worst comes to worst, you may not be able to step foot outside without people talking about you."
"I… I can handle it!"
The way her voice cracked told everything that was a lie.
"Ruby, I appreciate it, I really do." Touma told her, giving her a reassuring smile. "It means a lot you're willing to help, but this was caused by my big mouth. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if you're life got turned upside down because of my stupid actions."
"Yeah, I kind of helped feed the fire too." Jaune acknowledged, rubbing the back of his neck. "I'll help out how I can."
"See." Blake rolled her eyes. "I'll be the best person to go with you. And just to make sure everyone else won't overreact, I promise not to do anything involving the White Fang. I'll stay by Touma's side the entire event and come back with hi-…ahhh!"
Blake fell over with a crash as Neo pushed her over. Being tied to a chair, she couldn't get up.
"Neo!" Touma shouted, jumping up and helping Yang pick Blake up. "This is why I can't take you!"
Neo stuck out her tongue and then the air shimmered around her before she vanished. As it should just be an illusion, she should still be in the room. But the girl was also a professional thief and could sneak out the moment they weren't paying attention.
"Why's she acting out now of all times?" Touma asked, as he started to untie Blake so it didn't happen.
"I wonder why." Weiss muttered. Most of the people there could have given the dense boy a long explanation about girls.
"So I'll go?" Blake asked, rubbing her wrists once she was free.
"Well… there is one more person." Yang admitted. "It depends. Do you like Sienna Khan at all? Touma, Jaune?"
"Nope." Jaune shook his head. "After what she told us, not a bit."
"Same, she's a hypocrite." Touma agreed. "And not the good kind. Anyone willing to hurt innocent people to achieve a goal is wrong."
"Good." Yang grinned. "Then the person I'm thinking of would really piss her off."
"Who?" Ruby asked, anxious and confused.
"She's someone we all know." Yang couldn't be smugger as she slowly turned her head. Everyone else followed her gaze to the girl sitting in the room.
There was silence as Yang's idea was processed in everyone's mind.
"ARE YOU INSANE!?" Weiss nearly shrieked. "You want me to go to a White Fang meeting? They'll shoot me on the spot!"
"It's not a meeting, but a conference." Pyrrha added helpfully, catching on fast. "And just like how I'm there to show I can about Faunus-Human relations, wouldn't it be beneficial for the White Fang to see a member of the Schnee family there voicing their support?"
"T-That's… completely different!" Weis argued. "I have nothing against Faunus, but the White Fang loathes my family. They won't let an opportunity like this slip through."
"If you're not against them, then wouldn't this be a good opportunity to prove otherwise?" Jaune realized. "Show you aren't like your family?"
"Yeah!" Ruby joined in. "You always said you hated the way your dad treats people, so how about showing him up? This is some fancy party conference right? So he can't even complain when you show up."
"Huh, that's a good point, Ruby." Blake imagined Weiss' father's face when he saw his daughter go to a Vale meeting to support Faunus' rights. He wouldn't be able to even tell her off publically. Plus, Weiss wasn't someone she had to worry about around Touma.
Ruby had the same idea.
"My father would be pretty upset…" A strange smile appeared on the heiress' face. "He always gets on about me joining high societal events. This would qualify."
Everyone backed away from her as the air around the Ice Queen grew cold.
"Very well!" Weiss' curt response broke their stupor. "I shall accompany you to this. There is no doubt security precautions will be in place for this meeting. To prevent incidents occurring from either side. Along with the headmaster, Pyrrha and I, even if Sienna tried something, we should be able to handle it."
"Glad to see you're helping out for purely selfless reasons." Yang told her, trying to cover her laughter with her hand.
"Honestly, I kind of want to see Sienna's face when Touma shows up with Weiss." Blake agreed.
"Yeah… I'm going to regret this, aren't I?" Touma asked, but sounded resigned.
"Just let me do most of the talking," Weiss told him curtly. "I'll interfere if I catch her trying something. She'll say one thing and mean another. I'm used to this back home. Let me just tell Accelerator about this in case he had plans."
The heart in Touma's stomach sank. For some reason, he had a bad premonition about this. Accelerator was smart and wouldn't think he was trying to make a move on his girlfriend. No matter how many times he repeated that, cold sweat still covered his body.
Feel free to leave a review, comment, suggestions, or ideas, I love reading them. If you have a question you wish to ask and would like a quick answer, feel free to message me directly. I try to respond to those within a day or two.
Sometimes it's hard for Accelerator to get screen time, so I figured he needed a hobby.
