Our view lies in a beautiful forest, covered with green and peacefulness. Birds flew through the sky, and strange purple rats ran through branches.
As the Pidgeys and Rattatas continue their daily life, another creature appears from behind a tree trunk. A small green worm stretches its body while letting a small yawn.
As it was about to head out to find food, the Caterpie stopped its track. Starting to panic when it saw something huge resting against the tree.
That something happened to be a sleeping human, who just happened to be none other than our protagonist.
"...Mmh…"
And by his tone, he was waking up, so the Caterpie quickly hid away.
"Ugh...What's the number of that truck?" Ed grumbled out the most random thing he could think of. He began to open his eyes to see that he was in a strange forest. "Huh...peaceful dream we have here." He said as his hand felt real grass, "Almost too...real?" He began to blink rapidly, he quickly stood up and looked around. "...I'm not dreaming, right?"
"Pie?"
Ed heard a strange sound, one that he felt has heard before. Turning to his side, his eyes widened in disbelief as his mind began to remember everything. ('T-that's...no way. It wasn't a dream?!') He was staring at a real-life Caterpie, who was staring at him in curiosity with those big black eyes. "...H-Hello, little guy." He greets the Worm Pokémon.
Real smart. There's nothing wrong with greeting a creature that doesn't speak.
The Caterpie even sweatdropped at him, probably in pity as it rose his tiny leg and waved at him before going away.
('Even the fucking Pokémon felt pity for me.') Ed thought as he felt so embarrassed. Slapping that away, he checked himself up. His clothes were still on and his backpack was still on his back. ('Okay. Nothing missing. That's good.') Taking a moment, he put his backpack forward and opened it, he looked inside and saw most of his stuff inside.
Once done, he decided to get out of the forest and at least try to understand where he is. Thankfully, there was a path to an exit, so he was out pretty quick while marveling at the Rattatas that were running around the forest.
The first thing he saw was the beautiful sun and strong wind hitting his face and welcomed him to a view of hills in which a small town was. "...What a peaceful and gorgeous view." He muttered amazed at this display.
He focused his attention on the civilization that was closed to him, seeing some houses, a small lake, and what appears to be a building with a windmill behind it...
He knows that building! And this Town must be Pallet Town!
"What are the chances of me landing right next to Pallet Town!?" Ed was glad that he landed somewhere familiar to him. "Okay, I have a plan now. If I'm going to be a Pokémon Trainer, I need a Pokédex and enlist myself in the Pokémon League. I can go to where Professor Oak is and ask for it. I'm sure he wouldn't deny a trainer helping out with his research."
Fool-proof-plan!
"Alright! Let's do this!"
After walking through the town for a few minutes, he managed to get to the Professor's Lab, (and Damn, those stairs are long compared to the Anime) he walks up to the door and knocks on it three times, a few seconds later someone responds.
"Yes? Who is it?" the voice asks.
"Excuse me, I'm here to see Professor Oak," Ed responded, receiving a lot of sounds of something moving around, like if Ash's Tauros were on the loose again.
After another few seconds, the door opened and an elderly man in a lab coat opened the door.
Ed felt the desire to almost scream in joy as he had THE Professor Oak in front of him.
"Yes? How can I help you, young man?" Oak asked with a curious expression.
"Oh. Hello, my name is Edgar Martinez. I'm a starting Pokémon Trainer and was told to come here to receive a Pokedex…" Ed said.
"A Trainer?" Oak sounded surprised as he eyed the boy. "That's strange. You look to be a bit older to start to be a trainer."
"Yeah, I know." Ed chuckled while scratching his head, "Because of certain reasons, I was unable to start my journey until I was 16. Parental overprotectiveness."
"Ah! Of course," Oak understood that, "Recently, parents do not want children to go on a journey at a young age." He then moved out of the door, "Please, come on in. I believed we can discuss anything over a cup of tea."
"Thank you." Ed thanks him and lets himself in. Following the doctor to its lab, ('This is awesome! I'm inside THE Professor Oak's lab! My heart is freaking pounding! Okay, Ed, control yourself, don't freak out!') He could feel his inner child just bouncing around.
They entered a room that had a big window with a beautiful view, where Ed could see several Pokémon going around the ranch on the back. He couldn't help but quickly go to the window and stare outside while smiling like a kid.
There were a lot of Pokémon; from Bug Types to Flying Types. Hell! There was even a Nidoking walking through the bushes.
"Hehe. Amazed by how many Pokémons are there?" Professor Oak chuckled as he stood next to him, enjoying the boy's expression.
"To be honest with you, this is the first time I see so many in person," Ed confessed as his eyes widened when he saw a Pineco hanging on a tree. "Goddamn! A Pineco! That one is hard to find! Even in the Johto Region!"
"Haha! That's true." Oak agreed. "Pinecos' stay on the trees well hidden." He then turned to his couch, "Now, how about we go and start any question you may have." Ed snapped his attention away from the window.
Moments later, Ed and Professor Oak were sitting on a couch, drinking tea. The Professor explained to him everything about his work, and what he is currently doing.
"So you have trainers helping you collect data from many types of Pokémon for your research?" Ed asked, knowing full well what he is doing.
"That is correct." Prof. Oak nods, "There are so many Pokémons living in this world, and different regions." He took a sip from his tea, "But I'm too old to adventure myself, so I asked my grandson and his rival/friend if they can help me with that as they go on their journey."
"They are also ID for Pokémon Trainers should they be interested in entering the League," Ed adds in.
"That too." Oak placed his cup down, "Which is the reason you are here; to enter the league."
"That, and I'm also interested in finding many Pokémons." Ed pointed out.
"Well, who am I to say no to an eager Trainer?" Oak said as he stood up, "As a matter of fact. I believe you can help me with something." He made his way to one of his lab desks, "You see, I'm currently developing a new type of Pokédex, not only more advanced than the original but more efficient for Trainers." He grabs something from one of his open drawers and took out-
Pff-choke!
Ed almost spits out his tea as the shock of seeing something that...he has on him. ('It's that Smartwatch Phone?!') Sure enough, the Professor had taken out a device that resembled his world's watch phone in many ways.
"It's my latest prototype, with the help of a few colleagues of mine." Professor Oak explained as he handed it to Ed, who began to inspect it in kin detail. "It's a new device, but it also has a new feature; one I'm currently calling Trans-comp." Ed gave it back so that Oak could show him its new features. "Here. As you know, Trainers can officially take a total of six Pokémon with him. Any others they capture are instantly transported to the PC Storage in hold until they are switched."
"But the problem is that to access the PC Storage, one needs a computer and transfer device located in the Pokémon Center," Ed began to say as he was understanding where Oak was going, "And Trainers can't always go to a Pokémon Center when they need to switch Pokémons."
"Exactly." The Professor corrected the boy's answer. "That's why this watch will register any Pokédex and allow any trainer to not only see their Pokémons current conditions: it also allows them to wirelessly connect to their storage box and switch out any Pokémon they currently have with their PC." Beamed and exclaimed the professor happily.
Ed stared at the man wide-eyed as his mouth slightly opened. "Are you saying...I can switch any Pokémon with this device anytime?" he asked.
"Well, anytime except on Pokémon Battles." Professor Oak shook his head, "That is the one feature my colleague and I made sure it will not be made. Considering it wouldn't be fair for those who don't have this device to feel cheated out of the battle if you were to show or switch out with more than six Pokémon ." Oak informed the boy, making the young man nodded with a big smile.
"True. It wouldn't be fair." Ed said before looking at the watch, "But I cannot lie that having to see my Pokémon Team and check on them anytime would make me feel at ease." He wouldn't have to go to the Pokémon Center to switch!
"So? Interested?" Oak asked.
"Interested? Professor, you had me after showing me that watch." Ed said.
"Excellent!"
(A few moments later)
Ed felt impressed at seeing the new and improved watch wrapped around his left wrist. A touch screen and a portable device were functional.
"Comfortable?" Professor Oak asked him.
"Perfectly." Ed answered, "It's like it was destined to wrap around my wrist."
"Now then," The Professor proceeded to move behind a table, where three Poké-balls were. "I believe we can move to an important discussion; choosing your Pokémon!" The professor picks up the first poke-ball and opens it, releasing a green creature with a seed on his back and a sleeping face, which must have been sleeping."The first Pokémon is Bulbasaur."
"Saaaauuurrrr~." Bulbasaur realized a yawn.
Ed grabbed his given Pokédex, he almost screamed like a little girl when he got it and pointed at the Seed Pokémon.
"Bulbasaur, the Seed Pokémon. It can go for days without eating a single nutrient. In the bulb on its back, it stores energy!" says the chipper male voice.
"The second Pokémon is Squirtle." The professor picks up the second poke-ball and opens it, releasing a blue turtle that starts dancing.
"Squirtle! Squirt!" it yells while spinning Ed points the dex at Squirtle.
"Squirtle, the Tiny Turtle Pokémon. It shoots water at prey while in the water. Withdraws into its shells when there's danger!"
"And finally, the third Pokémon is Charmander." the professor picks up the last poke-ball and opens it, releasing an orange lizard with his arms across his chest.
"Char!" it yells, Ed points the dex at Charmander too.
"Charmander, the Lizard Pokémon, The flame on its tail shows the strength of its force. If he's weak, the flame burns weakly."
"Now please, choose one." the professor says. The trainer crosses his arms together.
('Now is time for the hardest thing; Choose…just to let you know, I saw the Death Battle of these three in their evolved form!') Ed thought on his mind. ('Bulbasaur is good for rookie trainers, is easy to raise, has an advantage against water-type Pokémon and it relies on Super Attacks and Special Defense, but his lack of speed and agility may be a little bit of a problem when it evolves and his disadvantage to fire type, ice type, and flying type Pokémon would be a real challenge.')
('Squirtle relies on Defense over Offense, his shell is very durable and it can move quickly around it, even on his last evolved form, has an advantage against fire-type Pokémon and between the three of them, he has the most chances of winning a battle, but his disadvantages against grass type and electric type Pokémon will make some trouble.')
('Finally, Charmander, power, and speed are his key to victory. He's so fast and strong, his enemies won't know what hit them. He has an advantage against grass-type Pokemon and his warrior instinct has managed to lead him to victory several times, but his lack of defense and its disadvantages against water-type Pokémon would trouble me a little bit, and raising him may be a pain.')
('All of them have advantages and disadvantages, so I must...go with that choice.') Ed says to himself while nodding. He turns to the Professor.
"So, have you made your decision?" Oak asks.
"Yes Professor, I decided… to not pick any of them," Ed says with a smile.
...
…
…
"What?!" the professor shouted in shock, along with the three Pokémon who look at the human in disbelief.
Who wouldn't? I mean, what kind of person decides to start their journey without a starter Pokémon, especially with any of these three legends!
Oh right, this is my story and he's my character...
"W-What do you mean you won't choose neither? Are you not satisfied with them?" Oak asked, making the three starters look down at the table in sadness.
"Oh no, that's not the reason," Ed said as he looked at the three starters, making them look at him. "To be honest, these three have always been part of my favorites. They are so famous, and they can make many trainers quite famous." He rested his hands on the table as he stared at each of them, "If it was up to me, I would gladly take all three of you. I know that any of you can become good companions to me. But I feel that you guys would be better suited for rookie trainers; people who may need friends like you guys." The trio watches the human in amazement at what he said.
Ed then looked at the Professor, "And I say this, not because of cockiness...but I want to find my first partner with my two hands. It just feels like I managed to do it by myself and it was not given to me. I know that is not good for me to start traveling like this, but this is the route I chose to take, you can understand that, right professor?"
The professor took the information he gave him into his brain (for those who don't get it, he's thinking about it), for about a few seconds, he answers back with a sigh. "This is the first time someone like you said those words...Very well," Oak says with a comforting smile as he takes six small poké-balls. "Now then, to finish things up, here are your poké-balls." He hands them to Ed, who took them and put them away. "And with that, you are an official Pokémon Trainer, I hope you have a great journey."
"Thank you for everything Professor Oak. I will be sure to contact you once I put this Watch-Dex into practice." Ed thanked the Prof with a bow before making way to the exit door.
Just as he was about to pick the door knock, but he then remembered something important. ('Oh, almost forgot.'), he turns around quickly "Professor, one final question if I may."
"Yes?"
"What are the names of the two other trainers who are helping you? In case I meet them." Ed asked.
"Oh. Of course," Oka then took out his wallet and pulled a picture out to show it to Ed. "One of them, as I had said, it's my grandson; Gary Oak. The other is a boy from this town and rival of my grandson, Ash Ketchum."
Ed felt his eyes twitch as he saw a young Gary and Ash fighting one another with glares. "I see...Well, I will make sure to mention you if I meet either of them." Ed said as he began to leave once again, "Again, thank you for everything, Professor. And Good day."
"Good day to you too, Edgar." Oak waved his hands as the boy left the lab and moments later heard the door closed. "...What a peculiar and strange boy. And I thought Ash was the only weirdo."
Oak turned to the three starter Pokémons before his eyes widened in shock. "HUH?! What the?!" The reason for his outburst.
One of the three starters went missing.
"OMG! I just talk with Professor Oak!... And I forgot to ask for his picture! Fuck!"
After walking out of the lab and out of the town, Ed screamed out things he needed to let out. "Not only that! Ash is here! I enter the anime world! Wooohooo!" He punched the air in so much joy. "Now then!"
He slams his fist together, "Well, better start this journey! First thing first, I need at least two Pokémon's with me." He takes out a map from the bag (before you ask, is the map that you use on the games(Wait...Where the hell did he even get a map from?)), opening it to see the closest town…which is pretty stupid.
I mean, everybody knows that the closest town is-
"Viridian City, right, we get it! You wrote this thing anyway!"
I'm sorry, who the Hell told you to break the 4th wall?
"Oy, shut up!"
Bite me!
(20 minutes later)
After some yelling from the 4th wall, Ed is walking down the road, thinking of the first Pokémon he must get. ('Maybe I'll start with a Pidgey or a Caterpie, or maybe a Spearow, or maybe ... wait a sec'). He stopped walking as he noticed something strange, ('Now that I think about it, I haven't seen one Pokémon around since I entered this forest, did I enter an isolated part of the forest?')
He looked around and saw nothing that could tell him that at least ONE bush was shaking.
('Where are they?... Well, no matter, I just go into Viridian Forest, might get some Pokémon there-')
BOOOM!
His thoughts were broken when an explosion came out of nowhere.
"What the-?" turning to his left, Ed saw smoke coming out of the forest.
Following his instincts, he went inside the forest. The more he ran deeper, the more screams of battle were getting through his ears. Once reaching the clear place, he hid quickly behind a bush to see the show. He noticed two shadows of creatures, one was standing with his back against a rock with no escape on the ground and the other was getting closer to it. Apparently, the one on the rock is the prey and the other one is the hunter.
Squeezing his eyes, the trainer managed to identify the figures, the one getting close to the other had red and yellow colors, looking almost like a duck. He identifies the Pokémon as Magmar, which is really strange considering that species only stay in hot places, and the one with his back against the rock was also a Pokémon and…
"Wait, is that…No way!"
TO BE CONTINUED….
Who's that Pokémon with his back against the rock? Find out next time!
