Ok, look, I've never bought how immediately chill Bella was not only with the Cullens being vampires, but also having extra abilities. I also think Jasper's powers would've been harder to accept, especially since they do work on her, so that's a whole other element to their relationship that Edward and Bella didn't have to deal with. Anyway, I hope you're enjoying this little AU of mine. Drop a review to let me know what you think! Cheers!
Chapter 10: Rush of Emotion
"Don't suppose you could tell me how this goes?"
Alice smirked. "Nope. It's all you from here on out."
Jasper sighed and looked at the Swan house. "Damn."
"Hey," she said, taking his hand and giving it a squeeze. "You love her, right?"
He rolled his eyes. "And again, it woulda been nice to tell her first, but yeah. I do."
"Then it'll all work out." She stood on her toes to kiss his cheek. "I'll see you back at the house."
"See ya," he mumbled, still staring up at the house. What the hell was he supposed to say? "Fuck it." He sighed and began the walk up to her door at a human speed.
He knocked twice and was momentarily greeted by Charlie. Jasper could tell, even without his extra abilities, this was not a happy man. Ordinarily, he would have made him feel more calm and inviting towards him, but he couldn't take that chance. Not now. "Chief Swan," he nodded.
Before Charlie could say anything, Bella called from upstairs, "If that's Jasper, tell him to get lost!"
Charlie sighed, rubbing a hand across his forehead. "Look kid, I don't know what happened between you, but I've got a very hurt and angry girl up there, so unless you've got a damn good reason for showing up here again, you'd better do what she says."
"I wish I did, sir," Jasper answered, wanting to be as truthful as he could without revealing everything. "But... I care for Bella very much. I made a mistake that I can't bear to lose her over. If she don't wanna see me now, that's fine. I can wait. Just please tell her I was here."
Charlie nodded. "Sure."
Jasper nodded and turned to go when Charlie called him back, "Jasper."
"Yes, sir?"
"Come back around tomorrow. She was pretty happy when she was with you."
Jasper grinned. "Yes, sir. Thank you."
Charlie grunted and shut the door with one last nod toward Jasper.
Jasper sighed and looked up at the window he knew was Bella's and blew her a kiss.
The curtains fluttered.
"Good morning, Bella."
Bella scowled at the blonde vampire on her front porch, having coffee with her father.
"No! No," she snapped, storming past him and into the house, letting the screen door bang behind her. "I just came to get my jacket and my backpack. I'm helping Jacob study."
"Bella, I just..."
"I said no!"
Charlie cleared his throat and stood up from his chair. "I'll give you two a minute."
Not long after, Bella came back out. "Look darlin'..."
He was cut off by the irate brunette before him, her dark hair flying as she whirled back around. "No! I trusted you! I loved-" she shouted in frustration. "I don't even know what was real! How am I supposed to know what I felt? Was I just under some kind of spell?"
"I guess that would make sense," he said, struggling to keep his own emotions under control as hers bombarded him. He came down off the porch and met her face to face so Charlie wouldn't hear them. "You've never been afraid of me. What kind of human ain't afraid of a vampire?"
She stared into his dark golden eyes. "Exactly."
"Do you want to know what it feels like? When I manipulate your emotions? Maybe then you'll believe me."
She crossed her arms. "Fine. Do it."
"You're sure?"
She nodded again.
"You asked for it," he murmured. Keeping his gaze on her, he pushed feelings of fear and panic toward her. He heard her heart rate pick up speed and she started breathing faster. She tried to fight it, he could tell, but her beautiful dark eyes filled with tears. Her hands came up to her face and she tried to pull away from him. Jasper pulled her back, giving her every positive emotion he could. Joy. Excitement. Love. He put a hand on either side of her face and stoked her warm, blushing cheeks. Her eyes sparkled as the tears dried and she giggled. He kissed her forehead and stepped back, releasing her.
Bella stumbled. "Holy fuck!"
"Yeah. I know."
She stared at him for a minute or two, a frown in place as she processed what had just happened. "You really haven't ever messed with my emotions, have you?"
Jasper released a breath. "Not once, darlin'."
She laughed lightly and launched herself into his arms. "I'm so sorry," he said softly, holding her close.
"No more secrets, okay?"
"Uh, Bella... I don't think that's a good idea. There's still some things about this life I wanna protect you from."
"Ok, well," she huffed in frustration, "just tell me about you then."
Jasper frowned. "It's not a pretty story."
"I didn't think it would be."
He sighed heavily, raking his hand through his hair. "Alright. Alright, fine. Go help Jacob with his homework then come back to my house. I'll tell you everything you want to know."
