Last time, our hero came out from the forest with a new partner, everybody's favorite yellow mouse Pokémon! Now, they enter inside one of the most well-known cities there is; Viridian City.
But not before delivering their captive to the police station. It was a shock for the officers as they couldn't believe that the criminal was apprehended. Nonetheless, he was rewarded with the promised money.
"So this is the money used in the place, huh?" Ed mumbled as he counted the several papers of cash in his hand. "The name is different, but the use of it should be the same."
"Pika?" Pikachu, who had removed his bandages and was now resting on Ed's shoulder, looked at the money in curiosity.
"Well, I think there's enough to buy some stuff for ourselves, for the moment." Ed put the money away, looking for a specific building. "Now then, if my BS knowledge works right, the Pokémon Center should be-" His eyes stop on a big building with a big Poké-ball on the center-top, smiling as he found what he was looking for, "There."
After a few more minutes both Ed and Pikachu reach the Pokémon Center. Once inside, Ed was welcomed by a familiar sight; the inside of the healing building. It was completely different from the anime and the game. It was huge, like almost thousands of people could fit in it, speaking of people, they were walking around, some of them were eating, others were reading, and the rest were playing or taking care of their Pokémon's, or buying at the Pokemart that looks like Walmart for some reason (literally). There are also large paintings of legendary Pokemon's, such as Ho-Oh and Lugia.
Both Trainer and Pokémon watched in amazement as they witnessed trainers come and go while walking to the reception desk, where a familiar pink-haired nurse was waiting.
"Welcome to the Pokémon Center!" Nurse Joy greeted both of them. "How can we help you?" she asks.
Ed had to look away to not show his inner child, "Y-Yeah. C-Can you guys look at my Pikachu here? He was attacked by a Magmar last night." Ed asks as he extends his right arm, allowing Pikachu to walk on it and head to the desk.
"Sure," she said before shouting, "Hey Chansey! We have a new patient!"
Right on cue, a round pink creature with an egg on its belly and the nurse hat on top of her head appears from the doors behind the human nurse. "Chansey!"
"Hey, a Chansey!" Ed said, taking out and pointing his dex at it.
"Chansey, the Egg Pokémon. It's said to deliver happiness. Being compassionate, it shares its egg with injured Pokémon or people."
"Chansey, please take care of this Pikachu." The nurse asks her partner with a smile.
The Egg Pokémon nods at her before walking up to the yellow mouse. "Chansey! Chan!" She motions to Pikachu to follow her.
"Okay Pikachu, you go with her, and don't cause trouble, Kay?" the trainer says to his Pokémon, who looks at him with a deadpan face. "Hey, don't look at me like that, I'm being cautious here." Pikachu rolled his eyes before jumping on Chansey's hands. She turned around and entered through the door, it came from.
"It'll take 20 minutes for you Pikachu to be fully checked." Nurse Joy informed.
"Appreciated." Ed proceeds to extend his Pokédex at her, "Now, I would like to register for the Pokémon League."
"Certainly." The nurse took the dex off his hands and began to work on registering Ed.
"Registration completed. Trainer Edgard Martinez from Pallet Town is officially registered in the Kanto's Pokémon League."
Ed heard the computer said as Nurse Joy returned the dex to him. "With this, you should be all set. May you have the best of luck in your journey." She bowed her head to him.
"Thanks!" Ed responded before walking away. "Now, let's go and buy what I need." He said as he headed to the Pokémart to buy a few things that he is going to need.
(A few moments later)
To Ed's surprise, he managed to get everything he needed from the shop. A sleeping bag, a few potions, some Poké-balls, and a few freshes Oran berries. He also received a Premium Ball, cause he bought the necessary amount to get it.
"Let's see." He quickly did a second look at everything in his bag and made sure that everything was in there. "Bag, food, leftover cash, clothes, poké-balls, Nintendo Switch, stove, wireless headphones, MP3 player...Yep! Everything in order." He closed his bag and patted it. "Well...Other than this, can't say I have more to do."
He would enjoy taking out and playing with his console, but currently, that object is a very 'strange' device that would cause some unwanted attention.
Luckily, the screams of a crowd caught his attention. He went in the direction it comes from. He stopped at the front of the training field, and a lot of people were gathered there.
('A battle! I have to see these!') he said as he went inside the field, swimming through the crowd to get to a better view.
Once he did, he saw the arena; two trainers were battling.
On the left side was a boy with bowl blond hair, a cocky smile on his face, a dark blue jacket, and pants. In front of him was a big gray, rock creature standing on two feet, with a horn on its nose and yellow-light belly.
On the other side was another boy with a red shirt, short blue pants, and a red bandana covering its head, and on front of him was a purple creature, standing with four legs, a horn sticking out of its forehead.
('Sweet, a Rhydon and a Nidorino!') Ed says, taking out the dex and pointing it at both Pokémon's.
"Rhydon, the Drill Pokemon. Protected by an armor-like hide, it's capable of living in the molten lava of 3,600 degrees."
"Nidorino, the Poison Pin Pokemon. An aggressive Pokémon that is quick to attack, the horn on its head contains a powerful venom."
('A rock type vs a poison type, huh? That's quite the battle.') Ed looks at the people next to him, "I just got here, how's the battle going?!"
"Cardin is winning this match, his Rhydon is intense and strong!"
"No kidding, his father must have raised his Pokémon very well!
"Yeah, but his attitude pisses me off! I just want to punch him in the face so hard!"
('Cardin?... Oh God, it better not be a Winchester! I don't want to get in trouble with Mounty Oum (R.I.P.) and Rooster Teeth!') Ed shouts in his head as he looks closely at the battle.
Rhydon looked like shiny metal, while Nidorino can barely stand up with a lot of bruises on his body. They were right; that Rhydon was strong all right. It must have been raised well.
"Fool, I told you to give up while you still can! Rhydon, use Crush Claw!" the bowl-haired boy shouts, as the Drill Pokémon's right claw starts to emit a shining aura as he ran at the violet Pokémon.
The other trainer started to panic, "Nidorino, dodge it, quick!" he yells, but the Poison Pin Pokémon couldn't dodge in time and receive the attack on the face, planting him down on the ground, as dust covers all of the violet Pokémon's body.
"Nidorino!" the bandanna trainer yells. Rhydon removes his claw as the dust starts to clear out, revealing that the Poison Pin Pokémon unconscious.
The referee raised his left flag. "Nidorino is unable to battle, Rhydon is the winner, which means victory goes to Cardin Witchneer!" He shouts, causing Ed to fall to the ground, surprising and scaring some of the people next to him.
('WITCHNEER?! That's so close, I think the subpoena is already at my parents' house!')
Cardin smiled with a cocky face. "Ha! That's what you expect from my father's company! We get Pokémon, we train them and then we defeat anyone with power! That is all!"
The other trainer took out his poke-ball and aimed it at his Nidorino. "Nidorino, return. You did your best." A light of red hit Nidorino, making him return to the red and white ball. He let out a defeated sigh before turning around to leave.
"Stop right there!" The trainer stops and turns to look at Cardin who was walking up to him, his Pokémon following from behind.
"What now?" he asks.
"Oh nothing, just came here to pick up my prize."
"Excuse me?"
"You heard me, hand over that Nidorino," Cardin says, extending his hand open.
"What?!" the kid shouts in confusion/disbelief.
Cardin was unfaced, "I won, and obviously, this Nidorino won't become strong with a wimpy guy like you, but with me, it will become stronger, so hand him over, now!"
"No way! I may have lost, but you have no reason to take my Pokémon away from me!" the trainer shouted, but everybody could see that he was scared.
Cardin was getting angry, it made the trainer flinch. "Listen here trash, do you know who I am?!" Silence, that's the only word that can explain the surroundings, even the people around stop talking. "I'll take the silence as a yes, so be a good kid and hand over that Nidorino, now!" the bowl head jerk yells out.
"…No, I will not do it!"
Cardin had enough, "You little rascal! Looks like I have to do this the hard way!" he raised his fist at the trainer, intending to punch some sense into him
Said trainer closed his eyes, waiting for the hit.
It never came.
The trainer slowly opened his eyes to see that the fist was stopped by another boy in a black jacket. That man was none other than our protagonist.
Everybody was surprised, even the heiress. However, he quickly looks at me with anger and surprise. "Hey! Let go of me!" He demands as Ed looks at him with a serious face as a little bit of shadow covers his eyes.
He lets go as the heiress moves three steps backward, turning around to look at the trainer, Ed, who looks at him.
"Go get your Pokémon healed," Ed says
"R-Right, thank you!" he said, sprinting out of the arena.
Ed turned his attention back to Cardin, who was glaring at him but did nothing much on the black-haired trainer.
He has seen worse.
"You! How dare you grab me like that! Do you have any idea who I am!" Cardin demands while pointing his finger at me.
"…No." ('Better leave like that.')
"Well, you should because I'm Cardin Witchneer! Son of CEO of Witchneer. Co!" he shouts with anger and pride.
"Never heard of you."
"…What?"
"I never heard of you," Ed says, making Cardin fall to the ground, anime style, and quickly stand up seconds with a thick mark on his face.
"What do you mean, 'I never heard of you!?' were you born under a rock or something?!" Cardin asked.
"It means what it means," Ed says, putting his hand on his mouth as he lets out a yawn.
"…Well, it doesn't matter, I demand that you apologize to me right now!" Cardin, again, demanded.
"For what exactly?" Ed asked, even though he knew exactly why.
"For what-! You interfered with my business, grabbed my hand, and let a precious Pokémon get away with a no-name guy! From me, the man that's destined to become the next Pokémon Champion of Kanto! So, I demand respect for me!" he said, his ears getting red.
"Wow, you have to be the first egoistic person I have ever met in my life," Ed says, in a fake surprise.
"Egotistic?!"
"And respect isn't demanded, it's earned, so don't expect me to bow down to you like some sort of knight in shining armor," Ed says, causing several spectators to chuckle.
However, Cardin was turning scarlet, "That's it! You cross the line, weakling!" he said, pointing at Ed again. "I challenge you to a battle! I won't stand here, listening to how you insult my family's name!"
Ed decided to be smart here, "Well, technically, I'm not insulting either you or your family's name."
"Oh, you're so smart aren't ya?"
"I'm not smart, I'm correcting your mistake, even a baby could see that," Ed says, making the crowd chuckle again. Making the heiress angrier.
"I don't care, do you accept!?" he shouted.
"To shut your filthy mouth? I'm in." Ed didn't even know what he was saying, or he did know and just went with it. "However, you will have to wait-"
*Poke*Poke*
"Huh?" Ed stops talking because something is poking his leg.
He looked down and was surprised to see a familiar orange lizard looking at him with a smile. "Char!" it answered him.
"Oh, hey a Charmander," Ed says crouching down to his level. "Hey there, are you lost?"
"Hey!" Cardin's shouts broke away. "What are you waiting for?! Hurry up and start fighting!" For a moment, fire came out of his mouth.
"Right, as I said, I accept, but you would have to wait, my Pokémon is healing."
"HA! Healing? I bet you're just scared to fight an awesome guy like me!"
"Excuse me, which part of you is awesome?"
"Umm…Shut Up! The thing is that you are scared and do nothing but talk!"
"If you have time to brag you have some time to wait-" Suddenly, the Charmander jumps in front of Ed. "Huh?"
"Char! Char!" He started to yell while pointing his tiny fingers at himself and Cardin while throwing a punch in the air…
It took a full second for Ed to understand what it was saying, which left him in surprise.
"You want to fight with me?" He asked and received a nod from Charmander.
He stood there thinking about what to do, what if this Charmander belongs to a trainer-
"That's your choice? A little Charmander? You got to be stupid or something! What can a worthless, tiny and weak Pokémon do against mine?" the bowl-headed insult.
…
…
...
Now, despite having been trained as a wrestler, Ed is a very calming guy. Insults were meant to happen in his line of work and he had to afford them. There's also that he played with salty gamers in his free time playing games.
But there's one thing he cannot, CANNOT, let pass.
Judging something by its cover.
Standing up with a full determination on whipping the floor with the heiress, Ed took out his dex and aimed it at Charmander. "Let's see, Scratch ('expected'), Growl ('also expected'), Flamethrower ('Not that I'm complaining, but isn't it supposed to be Ember?') and …wait what?"
Ed looks at the phone, very shocked at what he just read. He looks at the lizard before turning it off. ('If he knows this move, then I may have the advantage here.') he thought, taking out the black sunglasses that he 'borrow' from the thief and putting them on. "As I said before, I accept, and I choose this Charmander," Ed answered him, crossing his hands together, Charmander jumps into the arena and does the same thing. "What are the rules?"
"Simple, we both use one Pokémon, defeated goes to the first Pokémon that is unable to battle, but since this won't take too much, I'll go easy on you." the heir said. Already saying how the outcome is going to be.
"You're going easy on me? That's a rookie mistake, Cardin." Ed replied to his comment with a laugh.
"We'll see who is the rookie after this! Referee!" Cardin calls the referee who nods and positions himself in the middle of the outside field.
"Now! The battle between Cardin Witchneer and..."
"Edgard Martinez."
"Edgard Martinez is about to begin! This is a one-on-one battle, the battle is finished until one side's Pokémon is unable to battle!"
Cardin snort, "Edgard Martinez? What kind of name is that? Rhydon, get in there!" Rhydon nodded and went to the battlefield.
He's the one to talk, having that kind of name like him is ten times weird than this. Seriously, who came up with his name?…
Oh right, me…Anyway, back to the battle.
"Are both trainers ready?" ask the referee.
"Yes!" they both replied.
"Then, begin!"
"Alright, Charmander! Let's start low on this one, use Scratch on his legs!" Charmander runs at Rhydon's leg and starts to scratch them, which is not very effective though.
"Wow, you're more stupid than I thought, I got this in the bag, Rhydon, use Stomp on that lizard!"
The horn-drill Pokémon raises his left foot and tries to stomp Charmander.
('Wait, Stomp?... Perfect!') "Charmander, dodge it!" Just before it crushed him, Charmander jumped backward as the foot stomped the ground.
"Continue using Stomp!"
"Dodge all of them while using Scratch a little bit longer!"
Charmander went back to scratch Rhydon's legs again, the drill Pokémon kept trying to squash the fire-lizard, who kept dodging while still attacking Rhydon's legs. After a few more dodge and scratches, Ed noticed the thing he was waiting for.
"Okay Charmander, that's enough!"
The lizard jumps two meters away from Rhydon. Cardin shook his head in disappointment. "I don't know why you do that, but it doesn't matter, Rhydon, use Crush Claw!" Rhydon starts to run at Charmander as his right claw glows again.
"Alright Charmander, use Growl!"
The lizard Pokémon took in a breath and let out a powerful growl, causing Rhydon to stop running and place his claws on his ears, and shut his eyes in pain.
"What are you doing! Don't stop!" Cardin shouted in anger.
"Now, use Flamethrower!" Charmander stops growling and puffs his cheeks before letting out a powerful fire torrent that hits Rhydon's stomach and legs.
"Come on! Fire doesn't work with rock, get close to him and use Crush Claw!" Cardin screamed. The walking rhino opened his eyes and started to walk through the fire, getting close to Charmander as his right claw shines again and it upward.
"Charmander, dodge it!" Ed command. Charmander stops spitting fire and jumps backward as the claw hits the ground.
"He's off guard, use Headbutt!" Cardin commands quickly as Rhydon quickly hits the lizard on the stomach with his head in the air, sending him flying backward and landing on the ground.
"Charmander! Are you OK?!" Ed shouted, being caught off-guard. Charmander stands up slowly as he nods.
"Now, use Stone Edge!" Cardin ordered
Rhydon's eyes glow white as rocks start to appear around him, and throws them at Charmander, who covers himself with his arms as the rocks start to fall like raindrops and creates dust around him.
"Charmander!" The dust clears off, revealing a lot of big rocks surrounding Charmander, looking around the area to find a way out.
Ed sighs in relief. ('Good, he's okay.')
"Ha! Got you cornered now! One more move and you're done!" Cardin says out with pride.
('I have to give him credit, he read my opening good and put in a tight spot, okay Ed, relax and think...') Ed thought, but before he could think any further, the heir continued talking.
"But, I have to say, you are the first person that has taken me more time to take out, you have talent alright."
"…Ok?" Ed was unsure, but he knew this guy was up to something.
"Tell you what, if you give up, I will forgive you, and maybe make you a great asset to my father's company, I mean that's better than being defeated, right?" he says with a smug smile.
"...Cardin."
"Ah, you made the right the decision to give-"
"Thanks for the offer, but I'm afraid you have to shove it up to your ass."
*Records scratching*
The spectators gasp in disbelief. The referee watched in shock, and Cardin's face turned from smugness to pale white.
"...What did you say?!" The bowl-haired asshole asked.
"Give up? That word is not in my vocabulary." Ed slightly moved his glasses up, glaring at the Hero, "And I refused to be an 'asset' to a guy who only hides behind his family's shadow for protection." For a moment, his black eyes turned in blue like last time, making Cardin flinch in slight fear. "I rather accept defeat than becoming some sort of object!"Ed said with full determination.
His words shocked the entire stadium, as trainers, both male and female couldn't help but feel slight respect/fear for the black-haired boy.
As for Cardin, he recovers from the shock and looks at him with anger in his eyes, this was the first time he has been humiliated, embarrassed, and rejected. "Grrrrr, and here I'm trying to be nice! Fine! Have it your way! Rhydon, finish him off with Crush Claw!"
Rhydon nods as his right claw shines again and runs at Charmander, who was greeting its teeth.
"Charmander, prepare to use Flamethrower!" Ed said, the lizard quickly puffed his cheeks and held the flames on his mouth.
"Ha! Is over now, I don't know what you are planning, but you should know that fire attacks aren't very effective with rock types Pokémon like Rhydon!" Cardin said, thinking he has won as Rhydon jumps and prepares to attack.
Ed simply smiled. "Who told you I was attacking Rhydon in the first place?"
"…Huh?"
"Charmander, Flamethrower into the ground!"
Charmander released his flames on the ground, and the Flamethrower made his body skyrocket up to the ceiling, just about the time Rhydon's claw hit where he was.
"Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!" Cardin yells in surprised, but he wasn't the only one, several spectators have their jaws on the ground, surprised by this while following the now flying lizard Pokémon.
"So, you got me surrounded, eh?" Ed said, in a mocking way.
Cardin grit his teeth, "Tsk, so what?! He's now on the air, with no escape! Rhydon, when he comes down, hits him with a Crush Claw!" Charmander stops his Flamethrower and starts to free fall, the drill Pokémon gets ready for his claw attack.
('I think it time to use that move.') Ed thought before shouting, "Charmander! Counter that Crush Claw with Rock Smash!" Charmander's right-hand start to shine too. As both Pokémon got close, they both sent their attack at each other, releasing a powerful wind blast that blew everything away.
Both Pokémon's attacks were even as neither one of them like they are going down, but 'the wings of changes' went into our black jacket trainer's favor because Rhydon started to fall to one knee, shocking Cardin.
A few moments later, Charmander's Rock Smash surpasses Rhydon's Crush Claw as he punches him on the face and sends him flying backward a bit. The heiress was getting angry.
"What are you doing, you stupid Pokémon! Get up!"
"Hey, don't blame him, he's doing its best!"
"You shut up! I don't need a lecture from someone like you! Get up now, stupid Pokémon!" Rhydon tries to stand up but quickly falls to one knee.
"Get up, dammit!" Cardin patients were getting off-balanced.
('He must be too angry to notice himself.') Ed taught as he looked at Rhydon's legs, seeing the small bruises caused earlier from Charmander's scratches and his constant use of stomp attacks.
Either way, it's time to end this!
"And this is the part where I said: 'I told you that taking me easy was a rookie mistake'. Ed said with his glasses on and crossing his arms. "Charmander, finish him off.!" Ed commands as the fire lizard runs at Rhydon.
"Quick, use Stone Edge to stop him!" Cardin orders Rhydon's eyes to shine again as rocks appear around him and send them to Charmander.
"Charmander, Growl! Full Power!"
Hearing Ed, the fire Pokémon suck air on his lungs before letting a powerful shout. The waves collided with the rocks, who began to lose control before getting thrown off course, landing beside Charmander who kept running.
"Whaaaaaat?!" Cardin was horrified at what just happened.
"Rock Smash!" Ed screamed.
"Char!" Charmander jumped into the air and sent his shining fist directly at Rhydon's face. The attack landed hard on his face, sending the rock-type Pokémon flying past and into the wall behind Cardin.
The bowl-haired Heir, with wide eyes, looks slowly behind him at his Pokémon, seeing his eyes swirling as it falls to the ground, unable to battle. "Im...possible…" He fell to his knees.
He wasn't the only one surprised, everybody had their eyes winded and their mouths open, even the referee was in shock, but he shook it off when he realized something.
He raised his right flag. "Rhydon is unable to battle! Charmander is the winner! Meaning, victory goes to Edgard Martinez!"
When the referee finishes, a clapping sound off, followed by another clap, followed by a lot more claps. Ed looked around and saw a lot of people clapping and cheering at him
"That was Awesome!"
"He defeated a Rhydon with a Charmander, who had the disadvantage!"
"Cardin lost! I can't believe it! Someone finally defeated him in battle!"
From left and right, comments flying like birds. They began commenting more and more, Ed was getting embarrassed over them all. He heard footsteps were coming directly at him, turning around, he was welcomed by Charmander jumping into his chest, forcing him to catch him in reflexes. The fire-lizard started to shout and moved his hands up and down while with a smile on his face. Ed just gave him a smirk, having a feeling of what he was saying. "Yeah, we sure do a great team!"
"Shut Up!"
Everybody stops talking and looks in the direction of Cardin, who was returning his Rhydon into his Poké-ball while shaking in anger. "Stop praising him! This victory was luck! Pure dumb luck! I went easy on him with my already tired Rhydon!"
Ed felt a sweat falling, "Okay, firstly. That's your fault for taking me 'easy' as you say. Second, if it was tired, why didn't you switch Pokémons? I never told you to fight me with him."
"Shut it!" Cardin was already in blind denial, he pointed his finger at the duo he just lost against. "This isn't over! You have not seen the last of me! You said your name was Martinez, right?! Well, from now on, you are my enemy and rival!" With that said, he turned around and ran out of the gym.
"…Wait, I was trying to be his friend?" Ed sarcastically asks. ('Also, isn't he going to heal his Pokémon?')
Suddenly, the music of the Pokémon Center (you guys know which one) went off throughout the building, "Excuse me, Mr. Martinez? Your Pikachu is fully healed! You can come for him now!"
"And there's my cue," Ed looks at the Charmander, seeing he was covered in little bruises and scratches. Although, he noticed that there was some sort of scales around him, "And good timing, I better get you to heal up." The lizard nods back at him as Ed sprints out of the gym's doors.
Unknown to him, a pair of red eyes from far away were looking at our hero. Once he left, they stood from their seat and began to leave, "My. My. Looks like I came across something...interesting..." it said, chuckling a little. "Perhaps I should...meddle myself with this a bit." It said while placing a hand over their mouth to stop a giggle, showing a ring-like claw on their index finger.
Meanwhile, Ed was finally reaching the front desk. Seeing Nurse Joy with Chansey and Pikachu. "Nurse Joy! I'm here!" he calls for attention as he gets close.
"Pika!" the yellow mouse runs at Ed and jumps into his shoulder.
"Hey there buddy! Everything went alright?" he asks his partner, who gave him a nod.
"Your Pikachu had several injuries, fortunately, they weren't too bad." Nurse Joy said.
"That's a relief." Ed sighs.
"Char!" Charmander yells, reminding the trainer why he was also here, besides getting Pikachu that is.
"Oh right, Nurse Joy could you check this Charmander as well?" Ed asks, extending the fire-lizard at her.
"Of course, Chansey, take this Charmander in please!" she asks the pink Pokémon, who nods and takes Charmander from Ed's hand and walks away. "He should be finished in a few minutes, so please, don't go anywhere." Nurse Joy says to Ed.
"Oh, sure." the trainer said. The pink nurse gives a quick bow and leaves. Ed sits down against the wall, Pikachu looks at him in confusion, he looks at him. "Right, I should tell you what happened while you were gone."
(Five Minutes Later)
As they waited, Ed began to tell Pikachu what occurred while he waited. From Cardin's horrible personality to the Battle.
Pikachu was taking the information well, morphing his face in surprise and disgust (from Cardin's actions). "Pika?" He then asked something that made Ed confused.
"Huh? What?" Ed asked, making Pikachu motion to one of the Poké-balls and made a Charmander impression. "...Are you asking about Charmander?" The Pokémon nods. "Well, to tell the truth, he just came and began to poke me. Before I knew it, he had asked to fight for me."
The sound of the Center went off again. Both Ed and Pikachu watch as Chansey comes back with Charmander, who jumps off her hands and runs at the duo.
"Char!" it said, standing in front of them.
"Hey there! Feeling great and all?" the lizard nods at Ed's question. "Good, anyway, thanks for the help on the battle back there." Charmander scratches the back of his head with embarrassment. "Now then, do you have a trainer?" Ed asks, thinking of how desperate his trainer, whoever he/she, was to find him.
"Char!" he nods.
"Could you point me to who it is?" Ed asks.
"Char!" he said, pointing with his tiny paw at his trainer...
...but he was pointing at Ed.
"...Huh?"
