Just an idea I couldn't get out of my head! It's the same old 'Maura gets hurt, Jane saves her and then they realize that they have feelings for each other" trope with a bit of a fun twist! Our ladies need a bit of a... push and Maura's Nurse is just the person to give it. I am not a writer so I apologize in advance for any mistakes. I hope you enjoy it!

I do not own any of the characters.

...

Maura could feel her eyes starting to go black. She could just barely hear Jane's desperate pleas in an attempt to keep her awake. She wanted nothing more than to get up, hug Jane and tell her that everything was going to be alright but she just couldn't fight off the darkness that was enveloping her. The ground felt cold but she could feel a strange warmth radiating through her body. She heard one last "Maura!" before drifting off into what felt like the most peaceful sleep she's ever had.

"Maura! Maura, no, please stay with me! Wake up Maura, come on!" Jane cried, as she shook Maura's shoulders in one last attempt to wake her up. "Shit...please no..."

Jane grabbed Maura's head, carefully lifting it and positioning her onto her lap. She felt something warm and looked down at her hands. Blood. "HELP! I need some help over here! Somebody please help," she desperately cried out.

Before Jane could blink, Senior Criminalist, Susie Chang was by her side. "What do we got?" Susie asked Jane, not noticing all of the blood on her hands. Jane held them in front of Susie and they both looked at each other with terror.

"I-I don't know. She passed out and I just lifted her head and sh-she's bleeding, Susie. Please help."

Susie rushed into action, calling the few crime techs, who were still on the scene, over to get her some supplies.

"I need towels and water. Go!"

With that, they rushed off to find anything that could be used to help. Susie lifted Maura's head and was now examining the back of it while Jane moved her off of her lap and stood up. She started to pace.

"Oh my God. I killed her. I killed Maura, Susie. What am I gonna do??" Jane cried running her bloody hands through her hair.

Susie checked Maura's pulse, breathing a sign of relief when she felt one. It was faint but it was there. She also could see Maura's chest slowly rising and falling. She grabbed Jane's leg, effectively stopping her in her tracks.

"She has a pulse, Detective, and she's breathing. She must've passed out from the blow to her head. She's alive but she's losing a lot of blood."

Jane looked down at Susie and breathed a sigh of relief. She knew that the doctor was in good hands with her assistant there. Susie gave Jane a small smile and squeezed her leg for comfort before turning all of her attention back to Maura.

"Where are we with those towels?" she yelled out. One of the crime techs ran over with a handful of napkins and a bottle of water.

"Will this work?" he asked, offering them to her.

"Yes, thank you, but keep looking," she commanded as she started to irrigate Maura's wound to see the extent of the damage.

"Detective, I need you to hold her head," Susie said, as she grabbed a handful of napkins.

Jane dropped to her knees again and propped Maura's head up on her lap again and turned it to the side so that Susie could work.

"She has a large laceration on the back of her head. The wound is deep and will need to be closed up. We also have to get this bleeding to stop. Detective Rizzoli, can keep pressure on it?"

All Jane could do was shake her head yes.

"These napkins won't cut it," Susie said as she looked around to see if any of the other crime techs found anything.

"Will this work?" Jane asked, as she pulled her shirt over her head.

Susie nodded and grabbed the shirt. She folded it to make a makeshift bandage and grabbed Jane's hand, placing them both over the wound.

"Keeping pushing on it, just like this. Don't let off, ok?

Jane nodded and did as she was told. She felt tears starting to form in her eyes when she heard a familiar voice coming from behind a patch of trees.

"Janie! Janie, what happened?!" the voice yelled as her little brother's figure came into view.

"Frankie...oh my God."

He ran over and dropped to his knees next to his older sister.

"Janie, what's going on? Talk to me..."

"It's Maura, Frankie. She's hurt."

"I'll call for an ambulance."

He stood up and whipped out his cellphone. With a hand on his head, he walked towards Susie, who was now a few feet away, rinsing off her bloodied hands with a spare bottle of water.

"Dispatch, I need an ambulance to the corner of Maple and Grove. The Medical Examiner is down. She..." he trailed off because he realized he did not yet know the details of what happened.

"She suffered a large laceration to the back of the head and is bleeding profusely," Susie said loudly. "She's breathing and her pulse is steady but it's faint. She needs medical attention, please hurry!"

"We're sending EMS to your location right away," the dispatcher said.

Frankie sighed with relief when he realized the dispatcher was able to hear Susie. He assured the dispatcher that Maura's wound was being attended to as they instructed for the meantime. He thanked them and hung up.

He turned his attention back to Jane who was now sobbing and rocking with Maura in her lap. He ran over and dropped to his knees again.

"Janie, what happened here?! Are you hurt? We have an ambulance on the way for Maura. Do you need to be checked out, too?"

He looked her over and noticed that the right side of her face and body were all cut up and she had a large hole in her pants and her leg was bleeding.

"Janie, you're hurt. Let me take Maur..."

"No!" she yelled, shoving his hands away with her free hand.

"I've got her!" Jane cried, hugging Maura tighter.

Frankie decided that it was best to leave his sister be in this moment. He knew her well enough to know that coddling her was the last thing she needed. Instead he ran over to Susie, the other officers, and the crime techs on scene and begged for one of them to tell him what happened.

"It all happened so fast," Susie started.

"After you left with the other officers to canvas the area, we were watching as Dr. Isles conducted her initial examination of the body. Next thing you know, Detective Rizzoli heard tires squealing. She yelled out to warn us all as a truck, driving erratically, barreled right towards the crime scene. Everyone got out of the way, except Dr. Isles. I think she was so engrossed in what she was doing, she didn't even hear it. Detective Rizzoli yelled to her but she didn't respond, so she ran over and pushed Dr. Isles out of the way just in time. She saved her life, Frankie." Just then, Susie looked past Frankie and over at Jane who was still holding Maura in her arms, keeping pressure on her wound just like Susie had instructed. Frankie turned around to look too when he noticed Jane close her eyes and place a soft kiss on Maura's forehead. They both looked on with pain in their hearts.

They were pulled out of their thoughts when they heard sirens. The flashing lights lit up the crime scene that was previously only lit by a dim streetlight. Frankie could now see that the crime scene was completely destroyed. The body that Maura was examining looked like it had been run over, making all of the evidence they might have collected, completely useless. He also noticed that the streetlight, that previously stood there, was now on the ground and pieces of it, and the truck, were scattered everywhere. No truck to be found. He decided it would be a good time to call Korsak and Frost and fill them in.

They had both gone home for the night right before the call came through for a John Doe that was found murdered on the corner of a wealthy suburb near Maura's house. Maura was the first to arrive on the scene since she was so close. Then Jane, followed by Frankie, the crime techs and a few uniforms. Jane and Frankie decided to take the call and let Frost and Korsak enjoy their evenings. Little did they know that things were about to take a turn for the worst.

Frankie finished up on the phone with Korsak. He told him to get Frost and meet him at what was left of their original crime scene, turned new crime scene, as soon as possible. Korsak agreed without hesitation, assuring Frankie that they were on their way. The EMTs were just loading Maura into the ambulance when he made his way back over to his sister.

"Go with her, Janie, we got things covered here."

"I want to catch this asshole, Frankie."

"I know, Jane, but I got Frost and Korsak on their way. We can handle it. Go." He grabbed her arm and led her towards the ambulance doors. He noticed that she was now limping.

"But Frankie," she protested.

"We got this. Go. We will keep you updated the whole time."

Before Jane could protest again, Frankie grabbed her shoulders.

"You'll be pissed at yourself if she wakes up and you're not there." He gave her a stern but loving look.

She knew he was right and now she was subconsciously kicking herself for even considering not going with Maura. She knew that Frankie was more than capable of handling this situation and she trusted Frost and Korsak with her life but she felt almost responsible for what happened. She felt like she needed to be the one to catch the maniac who put them in this position. Was it a drunk driver, was it someone who fell asleep at the wheel and lost control, or was this a targeted attack? So many thoughts were racing through her mind but she knew that Maura was more important. She turned towards the ambulance doors and winced in pain as she stepped inside.

"She's going to fight you on it," Frankie said, grabbing one of the EMTs arms, "But please take a look at my sister's leg, too."

Luckily, Jane was too focused on the terrible sight of Maura covered in tubes and needles to hear him. The EMT simply nodded. Frankie gave him a pat on the back, he hopped in and closed the doors.

Frankie sighed as he watched the ambulance speed off. There was a lot of work to do now and he figured he'd better get a jump on it while he waited on Korsak and Frost to show but first, he pulled out his phone again and dialed Angela's number.
