Chapter 1: Their First Meeting

Sheldon and Meemaw walked into the classroom, "Okay, I'll see you later." Meemaw said. "Are you sure you don't want to stay with me?" Sheldon asked. "I don't think so. I don't really understand this stuff." Meemaw answered.

"That's how I felt when we watched Dirty Dancing, and I stayed." Sheldon answered. "When Patrick Swayze take his shirt off in here, I'll be back. You have a good one." Meemaw retorted. Then she left.

Sheldon walk towards where he usually sits, and is surprise to find out a blonde girl has already sit there. "Hello." Sheldon walked in front of her and said.

"Hi." The blonde girl answered. "Who are you?" Sheldon asked. "I'm Paige." She said, looked at Sheldon bowtie then said, "I like your bowtie."

"Thank you." Sheldon said, a little pleased by her compliment, "You seem awfully young, Paige. Are you with an adult who's taking this class?"

"No." Paige answered, "Dr. Sturgis heard about my research on quantum chromodynamics at high temperatures, and invited me to audit his course."

"Is that so?" Sheldon said. "Yes. He's been super nice." Paige said with smile. Sheldon, oddly, felt a little threatened by her, he said: "Interesting. Well, just so we're clear, he's my mentor, he's my Meemaw's boyfriend, and he had spaghetti and hot dogs at my house."

"The spaghetti goes on the hot dogs?" Paige asked with a little laugh. "No." Sheldon said, a little annoyed by her, "You realize this is a very advanced class. We'll be discussing deriving nuclear physics from the quark model."

"Do you know if he'll be doing a full color octet calculation with matrix manipulations?" Paige asked. Sheldon went silenced for a second, then said: "I do not." Paige then asked: "Do you know how to differentiate under the integral sign?"

"Well…no." Sheldon said. "Well, do you know anything?" Paige asked in laugh. Now Sheldon is complete annoyed by her, "I know you're in my spot." Sheldon said.

Eventually, Paige moved aside and let Sheldon sit, when they're preparing for the class, Paige ask Sheldon: "How old are you?"

"I'm ten." Sheldon answered. "I'm ten too." Paige said, "When's your birthday?" Sheldon answered: "February 26."

"March 17." Paige said. "I'm the youngest person in this class, that's funny." She smiled. Sheldon looked at her, there it is, the obnoxious smile on her face again, he thought.

Just then, Dr. Sturgis walked in, saw the two of them, said: "Oh, good, I see you two have met." He said happily. "I'm younger than him." Paige said to Dr. Sturgis. "How come you never mentioned she's coming to this class?" Sheldon asked.

"I thought it will be a fun surprise." Dr. Sturgis said. "I don't like surprises." Sheldon said. "Neither do I." Dr. Sturgis said. "Then why'd you do it?" Sheldon asked. "Some people like surprises." Dr. Sturgis explained.

"I love surprises." Paige said with smile. "Do you enjoy this one." Dr. Sturgis asked. "Yes." Paige nodded her head. Dr. Sturgis throw his hands in the air, "A 50% success rate, not bad." He said happily, "Let's get started." Then he walked away.

Sheldon continue staring at her. Not since sharing a uterus with his twin sister have Sheldon been so unhappy sitting next to someone.

During the way home, Meemaw looked at Sheldon through the rearview mirror, saw the unhappy expression on his face, said: "Awful quiet back there." Sheldon said: "I'm having an emotion I'm unfamiliar with."

"Hmm…" Meemaw said, "Think it might have something to do with your new classmate?" Sheldon answered: "It's possible. She's this only variable in the social equation." Meemaw asked: "So, what do you feeling?"

"Well." Sheldon answered, "My face is hot, I have a knot in my stomach, and I'm resisting the urge to kick your back seats right now."

"I'm thinking it might be jealousy." Meemaw said to Sheldon. "No, that's not in my nature." Sheldon denied. "All right, let's go through all the emotions." Meemaw said, "I'm looking at your face, so I'm gonna rule out happy. Are you sad?"

"No, there's too much anger in my emotion." Sheldon answered. "Oh, well, maybe you're angry." Meemaw said. "No, there's too much sad in there." Sheldon said.

"Maybe you have a little crush on her?" Meemaw said with a little cheeky smile. "Do you want me to kick your seats?" Sheldon asked in annoyed.

"I don't know, Moonpie." Meemaw said, "I'm still thinking it might be jealousy." Sheldon retorted: "Give me one reason why I would be jealous."

"Well." Meemaw said, "Dr. Sturgis means a lot to you, and now he's paying attention to somebody else. You're used to being the only smart kid around, and now there's another. Oh, and there's the possibility…"

"I said one reasons, thank you." Sheldon stopped her. Meemaw stopped talking, Sheldon begin to think about what Meemaw just said, jealousy seems to be biggest possibility here, then he thought about another one, but he convinced himself it's impossible. Oh come on, I have a crush on Paige? How absurd, he thought.

Mary is folding clothes, suddenly, she received a call, she picked up and asked: "Hello?"

"Hello, Mary." The voice on the other end of the line said, "This is John Sturgis. Sheldon's professor and your mother's lover."

"Hi, and 'John' is more than enough." Mary said in embarrassment. "I was calling because there's a new student in my class who is Sheldon's age." Dr. Sturgis said.

"No kidding?" Mary asked in surprise. "Her mother wondered if I could put you two in contact since you have so much in common." Dr. Sturgis added.

"Oh, of course." Mary said in excitement. "Excellent." Dr. Sturgis answered, "I'll give you the number when you're ready."

Mary take out pen and paper from the nightstand and said: "I am ready." Dr. Sturgis picked up the paper with the number on it and said: "409-356-6049."

"John?" Mary interrupted him. "Yes?" Dr. Sturgis asked. "That's my number." Mary said. Dr. Sturgis looked at the paper with the number on and laughed, said: "So it is!"

"This is so exciting." Mary said to George, "Don't you understand what this means?" George stared at her blankly and said: "Rather than me feel dumb, how about you just tell me?"

"These are parents we could actually relate to." Mary said in excitement. "Yeah, sure." George answered while his mind wondered on the newspaper.

"All the times we wonder if we're doing right by Sheldon or how to handle him, we finally have someone to compare notes with." Mary said happily. "There's notes?" George asked in a laugh, "I just been winging it."

"I'm gonna call her right now." Mary said. "Sounds good." George answered. Mary walked towards the phone, and she prayed: "Oh, thank you, Lord, for connecting us with the parents of another special child." Just then, she noticed Georgie and Missy are staring at her, "You kids are special too." She said to them with an awkward smile.

Sheldon and Meemaw get off the car, and are walking towards home, Sheldon is still complained Paige. "And she's such a know-it-all." Sheldon said. "Yeah, you mentioned that." Meemaw answered tiredly.

"I'm surprised her arm wasn't sore from raising her hand so much."

"Yeah, sure…"

They walked into the house, "And who goes to college with so much stickers on their notepad." Sheldon continued. "I don't know." Meemaw answered. "Unicorn stickers!" Sheldon exclaimed. "And we're home." Meemaw said to Mary and George, the two is sitting on the living room couch.

"Hey, Shelly." Mary said in excitement, "Guess who's coming over tomorrow? Your new friend Paige." Sheldon stared at his mother with his eye wide open. "Okay, I'm gonna go." Meemaw said, decide to get going before the scene got messy.

In the garage, Sheldon is play with his train, while Mary is still trying to convince him. "Come on, Shelly, maybe you'll end up being friends." Mary said to him. "I don't like her, I'm not going to like her, and Tam is my friend, I don't need another one." Sheldon retorted.

"You can have more than one friend." Mary said, "I'm sure Tam has other friends." Sheldon shook his head and said: "No, I'm all his got, even I avoid him half the time." But, eventually, Mary succeed in convincing Sheldon.

Sheldon decided if he's gonna spend a whole afternoon with Paige, he need something to suppress his own emotions. Luckily for him, the Vulcans use a technique called Kolinahr to suppress their emotions. Obviously, he is not a Vulcan, so he can do is shove all his emotions down so far they may have lost forever.

Sheldon is in his room, fixing his bowtie. Just then, he heard Mary shouted: "Sheldon, they're here." Sheldon walked downstairs, and saw Paige. "Hi, Sheldon." She smiled and give him a hug. Sheldon suddenly thinks about what Dr. McCoy have said…

"Release of emotions, Mr. Spock, it's what keeps us healthy."

At then, Sheldon decided Dr. McCoy is an idiot.

Sheldon led Paige into his room, said: "Now, since we'll be spending a few hours together, I've created a list of activities to keep us occupied. We'll start a tour of my room, then board games, and, if time permits, you can look at and not touch my trains."

"Oh 'My Little Pony'. I love 'My Little Pony"." Paige's attention is draw by a doll on Missy's bed. "That's my sister's, and it's not part of the tour." Sheldon said. "I share a room with my sister too, it's super fun." Paige said with smile.

"You're wrong." Sheldon retorted. He walked towards the desk and said: "Now, over here we have my desk. This is my computer. That's my mouse. This is the printer. This is the paper that goes in the printer, this is a box of extra paper that also goes into the printer. And this, is my signed picture of Professor Proton." He points at the picture of his idol and said proudly.

"Do you watch his show?" Sheldon asked. "No." Paige said, "I don't really like it." Sheldon looked at her with shock, and said: "You don't?"

"I think he's boring, and he dumbs everything down." Paige said. Sheldon closed his eye and take a few deep breaths, trying to calm the rage caused by what Paige just said about his personal idol. After he finally calms, down, he said: "And next on the tour, we have… a lamp."

After the tour is down, Sheldon and Paige decided to play Chess, Sheldon placed the board, taking the pieces out one by one, then said: "We could play traditional Chess, or if you're interested, we could play a variant with a new piece I invented."

"That sounds fun." Paige said. She sits down and asked: "What's the new piece?" Sheldon answered: "A wizard." He put a wizard figure on his hand and said: "The wizard cannot be eaten, and, at any point, he can teleport and switch places with any other piece."

"Yes, but there's an obvious flaw." Paige said. "What flaw?" Sheldon asked. "Well, any time anyone is checkmated, he could simply have the wizard and their king switch places, the game will never end."

Sheldon silenced for a moment, then said: "I knew that, you've passed my test." And continue placing the piece on the board while wondering how could he missed such a big flaw.

After they've begin to play, Sheldon and Paige also begins a conversation about physics. "So, you actually believe in multiverse theory?" Paige asked. "Very much so." Sheldon said, "It's the most elegant interpretation of quantum mechanics."

"So you really think there're infinite number of universes?" Paige asked. "Steven Hawking believes it, so yes, I do." Sheldon replied.

"Well, if there're infinite number of universes, I think that theory's dumb in all of them." Paige said. Sheldon feel the rage again, he did best to keep himself calm. "This is fun." Paige said, "I don't get to have discussions like this with kids at my school. Do you?" She asked him.

"No." Sheldon replied. Moved his Queen. Paige ate one of his pawn, then asked: "Do you ever wish you were just like everyone else?"

Sheldon thinks for a second, then said: "No, not at all." Paige smiled, "Me neither." She said, "I love being smarter than everyone." Sheldon nodded his head, said: "Well, me too."

Sheldon started to think that Paige and him might have more in common than he thought. Maybe his mother is right, he just need to get to know her a little better. Just then, Paige moved her castle and said: "Checkmate! You lose." With the happy tone in her voice.

The alarm in Sheldon's head go off, he doesn't know if ten-year-old Spock every flipped a chessboard, well ten-year-old him definitely did.

The pieces went flying in the air, Paige stared at him in shock. Sheldon looked at Paige's scared face, felt a little sorry. Just then, Mary walked by the door and asked: "What happened? I heard loud noises up here." Before Sheldon could said anything, Paige said: "Sorry, Mrs. Cooper, while Sheldon and I are playing, I accidently flipped over the chessboard."

Mary said: "Well, it's okay, why don't you kids come down and grab a snack?" Paige answered: "Okay, we'll be down there in a minute." Then Mary left.

Sheldon stared at her with surprise, and said: "Why'd you do that?" Paige answered: "I like playing with you, so I don't want you get punished. It was nothing. Come on, let's clean this up."

"Okay." Sheldon said, "Well, thank you, that's very generous of you." Paige smiled and said: "It's okay." And they cleaned up the pieces and went downstairs.

Author's Note: Well, this is it, the first chapter. I will update shortly...I think. When I watch "Young Sheldon", I just love their interaction, and since most fanfiction of "The Big Bang Theory", always Shenny or Shamy pairings, I just wondered what could happen if Sheldon get together with Paige. So I've made this story. Hope you enjoy it. Leave a comment please, good or bad. And just a side note, though this is an "The Big Bang Theory" fanfiction, during the start, it will mainly focused on "Young Sheldon". Okay, bye...
