Cathy29jes - yes he is but give him time and he be less lost, as he hasn't been there long compared to everyone else who's been there centuries longer than he has. True he doesn't not really in the way he thinks. Yes he is still a vampire just that he's slightly changing to be stronger. That's true they don't but these two are still technically they are still vampires just with a unusual gift that makes them like a demon with demonic traits and powers and appearance to match.

Kouga's older woman - thanks, I hope you enjoy this one then.

Chapter 17

(1st September 1881)

(Unknown location)

Afton POV

While days turned to months travelling around this god forsaken planet, trying to locate this particular item that Kur has asked me to procure for him, without no details on what it's supposed to look like or where I can find it is beyond me, but from all the assignments he has given me this is by far the worst as it shouldn't be hard to find it but it's becoming increasingly difficult even by my standards and I'm not a tracker like demetri is from the volturi coven but I've worked with some of the best and I've learned how to track almost anything but this item is impossible.

Traveling from one place to the other, or on the odd occasion sometimes back again, I've lost count on how many times this search has got me to go to, but from all that I've been to, so far I've found myself in a barren waste land, which as it's the most unpopulated place I've been to but it was very well hidden, and if my guess is right I think that I may find what I've been searching for all these months, just by the several of my senses that seem to feel oddly different, almost like they sense something thats out of the ordinary, it's hard to describe but I think it's what Kur asked me to find and if not I wonder what it is.

I head straight forward hoping it be the right direction to go, the sensation of my senses feels the same so I know it's the right way I hope, while I've been walking in this direction my mind takes me back to the moment when I was given this assignment, which of course I partly wished I didn't have to partake in as I would have preferred to stay and argue my point to find Chelsea, and bring her back where she belongs in my arms as I've begun to feel rather fond of her with all the time and assignments we have spent together.

(Flashback)After a long and excruciating journey I spent with Felix the one Kur asked me to break out of the volturi castle, and take through the hidden tunnel that the Romanians made a long time ago to escape through, but not just that was that because the tunnel was unstable we had take precautions for the beginning of the tunnel we have to keep quiet and walk as slow as human cattle for several miles, where it should be safer enough for us to talk and move quickly.Of course I chose to take the advice and even then I kept walking at that pace and the silence as much as possible to be extremely careful and because I wanted some peace which was impossible with Felix constantly yammering on with questions. I did choose to answer his questions but I hated it as I just wanted to get back here so I could speak to Kur myself,As we both came to the entrance of the castle I had to hide some of my laughter when Felix saw the castle appear the way it did, but also when Kur came through the door and spoke and asked us both to bow our heads, which I only did out of respect. After hearing Kur speak to Felix I waited for my chance for him to stop and let us rise, which he did and when he did I shot up and into the castle before Felix had a chance to see me.As I got into the castle I noticed that everyone was watching me with the same look they always do some with wairy looks, some with curiosity and the small few with respect, it's funny as I never stay very long here but my reputation and the assignments I've done has given me all these different stares from everyone who lives here with me but I enjoy it but never show it as I don't want to be the one known to be arrogant or anything. As I made my way to Kur's room I wait patiently, knowing that he probably watching Felix's reactions and what he do after he spoke to him like he does with everyone, after a few seconds pass Kur appears out of nowhere like always Infront of me with the knowing look, like he knows what I was gonna say before I say what I was gonna say. " You want to return to her don't you?" I just nod, "well you may return to her on one condition and that is to do this one assignment or more like a hunting mission for me as it involves you to track down this difficult artifact that I need and unfortunately it avoids me every time I get close", I just keep listening but feeling frustrated as I have never left Chelsea behind before and he wants me to leave her behind until I do this, anger bubbles up inside me, "how can you ask me to do this when you know ever mission, assignment or whatever you call it I've done for you I've done with her and never left her behind and now your saying for me to just abandon her there where she could be captured or killed?" I say with so much anger I forgot who I was talking to but also didn't regret what I said either."Your right you haven't but you haven't but this is more important, so you do this and I will grant you to return to her, to do whatever you plan to do, but first do this, that's all I ask of you" Kur said with a small smile on his face, I knew that smile was rare but something was hiding behind it, " fine I do this, so what do you want me to do"(End of flashback)

Something broke my concentration on that rethinking back to that memory of how I got her as I felt a powerful gust of wind that knocked me over onto my feet. I picked myself up from the floor, "weird how did it go from silence, with no sign of anything and then all of a sudden a strong gust of wind that knocked me over" I thought to myself, it made no sense, maybe it could have been another sign he was heading in the right direction, so he moved again in that direction to be again knocked over. This started to become frustrating so be tried another direction, this time nothing happened so he let that meant he was fine to continue searching that way.

He remembered that some of the things that Kur told him about this artifact that he's to look for, he said it was powerful, had a mind of its own which Kur said was what led him to believe it avoids him like a defence mechanism or something and only lets whoever it chooses find it. I knew that if it was the artifact that was making the gusts of wind, then I knew that I should trust Kur with everything else he told me.

That lead me to still wonder why Kur smiled when the subject of Chelsea came up like he knew something else, I know that me and Chelsea wasn't mates but as I've never met any or had a relationship before I wouldn't know if we was but I knew my feelings for her was something I should look for to see if she shared the same towards myself, but that would have to wait until I finish this hunt for the artifact first.

(Several hours later)

As I still continue searching I've found myself changing directions a few times as the sensation I had would either disappear or a gust of wind would stop me going in a particular way so I used those hints to know the way to continue searching, I was thankful that I was still in a unpopulated areas and still looking to be deserted, as it made it much easier to get through without distractions.

Every so often my mind would wander back to the conversations I had with Kur over this mission, some of the things I said to him I often regretted mainly because I let my fueled anger take control which I knew I needed to control better but he did have a habit of angering me with how he always knew what to say or persuade me to do what he asks. I often wish that I could rewind the time to do something different to see if the outcome would be different but knowing myself well after spending so much time with Kur and his assignments he gives me I doubt I would change much of it.

I've noticed that some of the areas I've been have had some rather interesting sites to see, as in the first month of so I was traveling through the freezing cold temperatures with so much snow and ice it was amazing to see, the only downside to it was that it was so peaceful that it aloud my mind to keep thinking about Chelsea instead of the mission I was set so when I finally got to other areas with different weathers like the rain and hot environments it was a godsend for me as it was populated with other species of animals and some humans, surprisingly I didn't see any of my kind, but that could have been due to my aura that I gave off when I used my gift as I could become invisible with my shield as long as no one noticed me but it has a other effect of aura that surrounds myself that others just naturally stay away.

Usually I get thirsty when I travel but Kur gave me a dozen veils filled with unusual looking and tasting liquid crystals , that has a very secretive recipe that only Kur knows of that holds the thirst back for six months per veil which I found very useful on my assignments and my current mission as it meant I could get about without making myself known to deal with it or spend more time away and return sooner.

(Couple of hours later)

I'm finding that this journey to be very boring, as I so wish that I could have at least brought someone with me on it to have a extra hand even one of the newer recruits would be something, as long as it's not Felix as no matter how boring this journey may be it's nothing compared to him with his constant questions yammering on, but even thinking about that I would love to know why Kur wanted just me to do this as usually most assignments are done in duos, very rare for it to be a solo mission, maybe it's to do with the artifact or maybe something else entirely, either way I don't like it.

I'm still don't feel like I'm getting any closer almost like I'm going round in a very large circle, I've been through some very interesting looking cave systems and came out into a new area that has a very large size green meadow that had some little wildlife such as a variety of insects which included butterflies, moths, bumblebees, but it also had a wide variety of flora, which I'm not saying I'm a expert at it but it view was amazing as I passed through it, it made it possible to forget all my problems for a while when I there until I came back out and it all came back like it never left.

When I find this artifact I have got to try and figure out if it holds a purpose or does something, that is useful, because if it could teleport then that is definitely something that I know so far that no vampire or being can do so if it could do that then maybe that's why Kur wants it unless it's one of the artifacts I retrieved for him ages ago where it contained something inside as the one I retrieved for him contained a amulet of dark magic but besides that I dont know what Kur actually did with it after he showed me what it was inside.

Just thinking about the many possibilities that this artifact could hold or do, made me feel better about doing this for him, even though Chelsea never left my mind she was always in the back of my mind to remind me to not forget that after this mission is over to find her again.

Thinking back to that very moment, while I continue my search, I just wished I didn't let my anger fuel me to storm off and instead stay to ask him more about what this assignment I'm now doing entailed and what's so important for gaining this artifact, such as it's purpose or what it can do. The more I continue to think about that same conversation I start to think if it would have ended the same way no matter whether I stayed or stormed off like I did, either way now I'm here I might as well continue searching and hope it doesn't take any longer than it already is so I can return back.

Heidi POV

Since Felix's escape, and the weird light that blinded everyone in the castle, we all have noticed that the three kings are acting oddly as most of the time someone usually knows something that they have been doing, but since that fateful day they have been keeping things from the rest of us, even Aro's personal shield guard Renata was out of the loop, which I definitely knew was out of the ordinary as she is the one who always knows something, she hasn't been around them as much as she once was, which I'm not sure if anyone else saw it as odd but I did because I knew how close they both was when she spoke to me about it, but when she comes to check on Isabella and myself she doesn't talk say anything about the kings. It has been very quiet within the castle for awhile now, the only exceptions are the day to day stuff with the addition of Isabella's regular duties of caring and sorting anything that she needs with feeding, changing, clothing and putting to sleep when tired, if I was being honest Isabella was the one thing keeping everyone sane and not going insane from boredom. .

Most recently I find myself with Jane, Renata, some of the girls, even more surprisingly is the Queens who joined us for a chat to talk about Isabella, to catch up on everything, but the conversation was surrounding mainly with her birthday as none of us really knew when it was, but knew that when she was at the castle's doors she only looked to be about a couple of weeks old, so we all came up with a idea to work out when we would celebrate it and make that day her official birthday.

We all decided that by celebrating her birthday it would bring some much needed positivity in the castle as since that day the kings have locked themselves in the library and haven't came out of it for nothing not even to see their beloved mates, so we all decided that a day or two before Isabella's birthday we will all find a way to get the kings to come out and help with the decorations and celebrating to help boost the moods of everyone in the coven and let everyone know the kings are still with us, as it's felt that they have been missing for awhile which has made a weird gap in everyone's daily lives.

Even Isabella has shown to be miss seeing them, with her little attempts at trying to say their names, but none of us dared to try to enter the library, with the main reason being that no one wanted to risk their second lives at the possibility that it could anger one or all of the kings, majority of the guards feared the one that will be the most angriest would be Caius, as his temper was well known to be the shortest compared to the other two kings who didn't get as angry as easily.

When everyone got together and spoke about the possible reasons that could explain why the three kings were spending so many continuous hours in the library, it got them all baffled. The main reason why everyone was baffled by it was from what everyone knew about them, both Aro and Caius was the least likely to spend that much time in there, as neither of them came across to take a huge interest in books, as Aro was the type to collect rare artifacts or expensive jewels from different time periods that he treasured, Caius liked to collect weaponry, and the heads of his enemies to warn others that he should be feared and not to be messed with, but then when it came to Marcus he was the only one who was in his element as he loves to collect books, scrolls, stone tablets, anything that provides a form of information or can tell him anything that interests him or could help him with anything he would have. It was funny and surprising to us all, even his two brothers shared the same reaction when he came out with books on caring for children when we first found Isabella.

The two queens offered to be the ones to go into the library to get the three kings to come out of there when we all decided to celebrate Isabella's first birthday, when the time was right, as we planned it to be in just twelve days time which gave us all plenty of time to find the perfect decorations and anything that can be used to celebrate someone's birthday of Isabella's age.

At this current moment in time, I've found myself in my own room lying down on my comfortable bed reading a several books that I've read an numerous of times definitely this one that I've grown rather accustomed to knowing everything it says without needing to open it, yet I do just to familiarise myself with it again and again, as these books was the particular ones that I requested from my master Marcus not long after Felix's imprisonment, because these books help me with ensuring I'm prepared for what to expect when Isabella gets older, but what things will need to change to go with it.

It's weird that me being a vampire is worrying about caring and looking after a human child, but it's something I have found I love doing, even the rest of the girls in the castle have joined in more, surprisingly, the two queens Sulpicia and Athenadora have been out of the towers more and more as since the kings have been in the library, have been doing their part with babysitting Isabella and changing diapers, the only difference is they don't seem as bothered with the smell of the diapers, which made everyone always stare in shock and confusion, which just made the queens smile even wider.

The great thing is all of us in the castle have found our little roles that we enjoy or things we do better than the others when it comes to Isabella, even some of the humans who work in the castle have come up and asked us if they can be cooks and do things that only humans can do for Isabella, which we all was only happy to allow, as we knew it gave them some comfort to be able to do more than what they already do and to care for a human like themselves. Of course they all had the same talk from Jane who gave them a clear warning that she will always be watching them to ensure they don't poison or harm Isabella, as there would be consequences if they did, which made them gulp in fear.

Whenever anyone had Isabella, everyone was always on guard knowing that wherever Isabella was Jane was close by, she even told us that she will refuse to do any missions for the kings if any came up until Isabella was older enough to defend herself, as Jane was sort of known to be a guardian to Isabella and torturer to anyone who takes a step wrong when it came to Isabella's needs, as she made it her mission every time trying to protect Isabella from all harm or anything she didn't agree with. The good thing is that wherever Jane was, Alec was always near to keep his twin sister in check to ensure that she never went overboard as she was known to go overboard in protecting the ones she loves or cares about.

Aros POV

(Meanwhile in the library)

Ever since we had that visit from Bella who was a being who lived inside our Isabella, me and my brothers have been cooped up in Marcus's personal library with stacks and stacks of books and everything else that he has in here with any possible forms of information that we have looked through since that visit and not even made a dent in finding the answers we seek.

We have been very grateful that Marcus long ago managed to soundproof this room as if it wasn't soundproof then everyone would have heard all the conversations we were having when we talked about that very visit that has gotten us three to be in this room searching.

While we have been searching, it's been down to Marcus telling us two where would find certain books that myself or Caius would ask for as Marcus said he had a particular order he put everything in to make it easier for himself, after awhile we both learnt the order it was in as after a few weeks we worked it out what the ordering Marcus put it in which was by the time period it was from and then in alphabetical order which sounds simple but when your mind is occupied with thousands things at the same time it becomes a bit of a jumble to try and remember the simplicity of the ordering he put it in.

As of today I'm still looking through my pile of tomes, while Caius is searching through his smaller pile as he always loved to mention to us constantly that he hates seeing the huge stacks surrounding himself and feeling like it would just fall down on top of him so he always insisted on having a single small stack to look through and when finished to get a new one to look through. At this moment I've still yet to find anything of use to use but did find that some of what I've read to be interesting, "wait I think this might be what we are looking for it's the oldest thing I have here and it must have gotten placed here before even we took over from the Romanians, not just that but it looks very fragile so both of you be careful when you turn the pages'' Marcus announces to us both while still having his back facing us while trying to retrieve the monstrous book that I could just see from where I was sitting.

As Marcus finally got the book out from where it was placed and walked over to us and placed it on the table that we all shared, as it landed on the table with a thud sound, dust scattered everywhere and I could see what he meant when he told us it looks fragile and to be careful when turning the pages, as the book itself looked to contain several thousand pages which is unlike any of books or tomes that myself or my brothers have been searching for throughout these months, and to think that it was very well hidden from even Marcus himself was surprisingly shocking to say the least. "Do you reckon it will have what we have been looking for or is this just gonna be like the rest of them?" Caius said frustratingly as he didn't particularly enjoy all this searching through books and everything that we been doing but both of us agreed that we would try to help Marcus to save him being alone in finding the answers that we all wanted to find ourselves as we all wanted to ensure nothing happens to Isabella or to the world we have created which has been sort of peaceful, except for the odd few that gets dealt with.

Looking to Marcus, "brother if it's not too much to ask with your expertise and familiarity with handling books, tomes and everything you have here that has old and fragile that may not be as old as this one or fragile but I think that both me and Caius would agree that your the best to open it, turning the pages to see what is contained in it" he told his brother with Caius looking over and nodded in agreement.

"Thank you brothers, I just hope that it's readable as some that I have in here like you both have seen are not always in the same language and requires us to translate it, but if my hunch is correct, and I have a feeling that it's gonna be in a unknown language that none of us will be comfortable with" Marcus explained, "that's a fair explanation but does that mean we have a tome that could be unreadable and useless to us" Caius said with small frustration in his tone as he spoke to Marcus, "calm down brother, he can only do what he can and if that means we may have to ask others of our coven or allies for help then we may have no choice as there are others who may know the language better than us as we are not known to travel unless it's to deal with lawbreakers" he told his brother, who looked to understand and become calmer.

As they all was happy to continue with seeing what this old tome will contain in it, "so brothers are you ready to see if this tome will help or not" Marcus announces, I nod alongside my brother, Marcus begins to open the tome carefully not to damage it, as they see the first page, it looked to be blank, so he flipped another page and it was blank again he began to keep flipping the pages to see them all blank, after getting to the very last page in the tome it was like the others but instead it only said a few words, "read in reverse and and turn upside down and chant tome of mysteries three times".

We all looked at each other with confused looks, as from all that we have read none of them had this many empty pages and then one page to say a few words, it was just confusing to see. "This tome is absolutely rubbish, I think we should just keep searching until we have checked them all, as this tome isn't helping at all" Caius growled in frustration, "I disagree with you brother maybe this tome is hiding something and the words that is there is for us to chant to get what we seek from it" Marcus says calmly. He had a point as my brother should have known that Marcus spends more time around these so of course he would know more than we do and trust him but typically Caius can't be paintiant and listen. "I agree with you we should give it a go and trust your judgement brother" I said looking at Marcus as I spoke but also silently directing what I said to Caius hoping he would get the hint and show that he trusts him too. "Humph, fine I trust you know what you're doing, let's get this over with," Caius said with a defeated sigh.

Marcus turned the tome upside down and kept the page they was on and they began to chant what it said in reverse three times, for a few seconds nothing happened, then the tome began to rise off the table in mid air with the dust that must have still been on it flying off it, then the tome began to flip through the pages from front to back on its own several times in front of us do we could see the blank pages turning to pages with images and inscriptions appearing on it, all we could do was just stare in shock and amazement at the tome revealing itself.

I think if any of us was gonna say anything it would be, how did the Romanians not see this from the time they spent here before we took over and how did none of us find it until now either, it was indeed a mystery. After about a couple of minutes that must have passed the tome began to lower itself slowly to the table but this time with it closed itself and placed itself to show the front cover showing upwards.

Unknown POV

(Unknown location)

"Boss we have the two females that you asked for, just awaiting orders"

"Excellent, keep them both under plenty of sedation until I return as I have plans for them both, definitely that one" the boss pointing to the woman on the left, "the other one known as Chelsea you may do as you please with I have no use for her but make sure no one but us two know of her whereabouts, as she is a very valuable asset to the volturi coven" boss said pointing to Chelsea on the right side.

"Will do boss, it won't be long till we get what we are owed"
