Hi everyone, happy Saturday!
Thank you for reading and for following this story. Here's the next chapter. I really hope you like it.
Happy reading,

Disclaimer: I own nothing except my imagination.
I've been with my fair share of girls in the past, but nothing ever felt like this. The connection, the intensity, the electricity running through my body when I touch her skin, the need of being around her, of protecting her. It was all different, but I liked it.
I was sitting on her bed tying my shoelaces, as I peeked through the ajar bathroom door while she was getting dressed. I found myself smiling, a sense of warmth invaded my chest and I just knew that I really wanted to try this. I wanted to try us.
She walked into her room saying something about being late for work and offering to get coffee for us on her drive to the district so I could stop by my place and put on clean clothes. I got the main idea, but I wasn't really paying attention. I was lost in her and caught up in the idea of us being together.
"What? Is there something wrong with my clothes?" Her question snapped me out of my thoughts and I observed as she started to flatten out her sweater.
"There's nothing wrong. I was just admiring how beautiful you are. That's all." She smiled and walked closer to me, her hands lightly touched my shoulders as she dipped down and pecked my lips. She grabbed my hand and started to pull me up from her bed.
"Come on detective, we're gonna be late."
I stayed where I was, and instead of doing what she wanted, it was me who pulled her down and sat her on my lap.
"Listen. Before we go, I just need to leave something out in the open." I took a deep breath and saw the concern in her eyes. "I like this, it makes me feel really good and I hope it makes you feel the same way." The spark in her eyes and the smirk that was beginning to appear gave me the confidence I needed to continue speaking. "We can play this out however you want. We can keep it to ourselves or shout it from the rooftops, I don't really mind right now. What I'm not willing to do is tiptoeing around it. No bull shit now. There's no 'this was nothing', 'this shouldn't have happened', or 'this can't happen again'. Because it will happen again." I replayed that last part of the sentence in my mind and shook my head. "Sorry, that came out wrong. If you want to, it will happen again." She laughed and pressed her lips against mine while she cupped my face with her hands.
"Oh, this is totally happening again." We both smiled and then she looked down, for some reason she wasn't able to look at me. "Look, being around you makes me happy." She paused and finally looked up revealing her flushed cheeks. Could she be any cuter? "But I'd rather we keep this between us, at least for now. I'd like to have a little time for ourselves, you know? To get to know us, to figure us out. Does that make any sense?" Her eyes narrowed and her head slightly shook as if she was trying to make sense of that question herself, while she ran the back of her hand across my cheek.
"It does and I'm ok with that. Just as long as that doesn't include you ignoring me like you did before. I hated that."
"I'm sorry. That was stupid and harsh and I hated it too."
"It's ok, you made up for it already." I knew there was a cocky smirk on my face, I couldn't really control that.
"Adam." Her whining came with a little red color in her cheeks.
"What? Don't blush. That was a beautiful thing you did last night and this morning. You should be proud of yourself." I teased and her cheeks were now burning. She got off my lap and went to get her badge.
"Shut up and get that ass up from my bed so you can go get changed." She was pretending to be mad, but the tone in her voice said otherwise.
"Fine, but I want one proper kiss before I go. Considering I won't get any of that for the rest of the day, I think that's the least I deserve." I stood up and got closer to her waiting to make my move, but she did it first. Her arms were around my neck and her lips were instantly attached to mine. "That was nice." I smiled and stepped away from her. "I'm only stopping it because I get the feeling you will literally kick me out if I don't leave." She smiled as she grabbed my left hand and pulled me back towards her. Feeling her fingers tangling the hair in the nape of my neck was driving me completely insane. "Don't do this to me, Burgess." I whispered against her lips before I captured them with mine.
"Go!" She placed her hands on my chest and pushed me away with a playful smile. "Because if you don't go now, we know how this ends."
"That's a pretty sweet ending if you ask me."
"A sweet ending that will leave us both unemployed. Go! I'll get your coffee." She started to push me towards the door and opened it forcing me to leave. I leaned to leave a quick kiss on her lips.
"And an egg sandwich or something. The morning workout left me starving." She blushed again and I smiled at the effect my comment caused. "See you."
"Bye."
I quickly stopped by my house to get changed and grab my star and gun. By the time I got to the district all the boys were there, but no sign of Kim and Erin. Please don't tell me she's going undercover again. I sighed and walked to the break room to get a glass of water, that's when I heard her voice and Erin's. I knew I shouldn't be eavesdropping like that, but I just couldn't help it.
"So what did Roman want? He seemed pretty insistent." Lindsay's curiosity was obvious.
"I don't know. I didn't really let him say anything. I just walked away."
"Is that why he was grabbing you by the arm when I got there?"
He did what? My blood was beginning to boil. I really wanted to hear Kim's answer to that.
"I guess. He's probably pissed because he texted me earlier today and I didn't even read it. I had a great morning and I'm not gonna let Sean ruin it." I walked out of the room but she didn't see me, causing her to bump into my chest. "Damn it Ruzek, watch your step!" I grabbed her by the arms holding her in place so she wouldn't spill the coffee.
"Me? You were the one not paying attention, gushing about your great morning. What was so special about it anyway?" I said that totally on purpose, I was beginning to live for her blushed cheeks and cute embarrassed face.
"Nothing. It's a nice day, that's all. Just take your coffee and go to your desk." She handed me my cup and a brown paper bag, which I assumed had some food in it. I could see Erin's entertained and grinning at our interaction.
"Nice to see you're talking to each other today." Erin finished off her comment with a wink directed at me. Either I was being paranoid or she was totally picking something up.
The day was pretty quiet. A murder case popped up and luckily it wasn't being too complicated to solve. Voight sent us out to do some questioning and narrow down the suspect list.
We were heading to our first stop. I knew my mind shouldn't be where it was, but I couldn't let go of the thought of Roman and Kim this morning and I had the feeling that holding this in was just gonna make it come out and bite me in the ass in the future.
"So…" I wasn't all that sure how to say what I wanted to say.
"So?"
"Can I ask you something?"
"You can. But maybe I won't answer." I heard her chuckle softly.
"What's up with that asshole grabbing you by the arm?" I just went straight for it.
"What?" Her head turned my way and she was staring at me.
"I kind of overheard you and Erin talking this morning."
"Kind of?"
"Yes, kind of. I was in the break room, it's not like you guys were hiding it."
"We weren't."
"Ok. So, what happened?" I was beginning to get frustrated and she figured it out.
"Nothing. He wanted to talk." She paused for a second and looked out the window of the passenger side. "He texted me this morning and I didn't want to look at it, therefore I never replied. That's what happened."
"Why did he grab you?"
"Because I left the locker room when he approached me, leaving him with whatever he wanted to say in his mouth." I got mad, really mad. I tightened the grip of my hands around the steering wheel turning my knuckles white. She totally saw that. "Hey, just let it go." Her hand on my knee was doing its best to soothe me.
"Why should I? He's the one being a dick. No one should be treated like that, especially you." I glanced over to look at her and I saw how her whole body was facing me now.
"Because he is a dick and you are not." I rolled my eyes. "Ruze, come on."
"What did the message say?" I couldn't stop now.
"It doesn't matter."
"Fine." My tone denoted all the fury I was feeling.
"Are we really doing this?"
"I'm not doing anything." I parked in front of the first house we were supposed to check.
"What are you trying to say?"
"Why are you covering his ass?" I ignored her question completely and asked what I wanted to know, letting go of the steering wheel abruptly.
"I am not."
"Whatever. Let's hit this house and see what we find." We both got out of the car. Anyone could see that Kim was mad at me, and who knows? Maybe I was overreacting, but I just couldn't stand the thought of Roman being aggressive with her, let alone touching her at all. There was also this faint idea of her wanting to get back to him ghosting my mind, and that was killing me.
As opposed to what was going on in my head, our questioning in the first address went pretty well.
"I'll call Voight and let him know." She got her phone out of her pocket as we walked out of the house.
The fact that we were in a rough patch right now, but could get our jobs done was soothing. It made me think that we could actually have a shot at being together and working everything out.
I heard the truck door open and she got in. "Sarge wants us to check the third house he gave us, first."
"Sure." I made the changes in the gps and heard her voice again.
"Look, you were the one who said no tiptoeing. So let's not tiptoe."
"Exactly, that's why I asked you."
"Fair point." She sighed. "Whatever the text said doesn't change the fact that I really don't care. Plus, I don't believe a single word he says anymore."
I'm not sure if that's what I wanted to hear. What did that mean? That she would be with him still if he hadn't cheated on her?
"It's fine, Kim."
"I can read you, Ruzek. I know it's not fine." She touched my cheek and moved my face so I would look at her. "If we want this to work, you've got to trust me."
"I trust you. I don't trust him, especially if he's going around grabbing you by the arm and shit."
"Adam, he didn't hurt me. I'm fine, I swear. I don't want you to get caught up in this."
"Too late for that." We were both frustrated at this point. I wasn't going to admit that I was jealous, that a part of me was afraid that she would go back to him.
My thoughts stopped when, out of the blue, her lips crashed against mine while her hands were holding my face in place, like she was keeping me from running away or something. We finally moved away a few inches and I tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. "You know you won't be able to use that to get away with everything, right?"
"I know. But I will try every time." I swear her smile was everything I needed to feel alright again.
"Come here." I closed the space between us to kiss her one more time. "Do you want to grab some dinner tonight and maybe sort this out?"
"I can't. I have a dinner date with Nicole and Zoe." One of her hands was on my knee and the other one lightly grazed my cheek. "But I definitely want to see you over the weekend."
"Yeah, me too. Anyway, let's get this case over and done with."
"Let's do this!"
We went over all the addresses Voight had given us, and we found what we were looking for in the last one. We were able to get a suspect in for interrogation, but the process of catching him wasn't as smooth as we had hoped for.
As soon as Kim yelled 'Chicago PD' the guy started to run away, which obviously led to an on foot pursuit. When I finally got him, the guy decided that he was not going to go down without a fight. We both threw some punches and suddenly I was thankful for taking up boxing, but when I felt his fist connect with my cheek bone, the burning sensation was instantaneous.
"You shouldn't have done that buddy." Kim appeared behind the guy, her gun pointing to the back of his head. "Hands up and on your knees now." She took her cuffs with one hand and tossed them over to me, quickly having both of her hands firmly gripping her piece. "You ok?"
"Yes, I'm fine."
The ride back to the district was quiet, mostly because the suspect was sitting in the back seat. As soon as we got there, Jay and Lindsay took him to the interrogation room, now that he had charges for assaulting an officer it was going to be a bit easier to pressure him into giving us the information we wanted.
Apparently the punch had left a gash on my face, so I went straight to the locker room to clean it up.
"Need help with that?" Hearing her voice made my lips move upwards.
"Nah, I'm good. Thanks for having my back out there." I closed the tap and turned around to see her, slightly leaning against the sink.
"Just doing my job, detective. Now, let me take a look at that." She got closer to me to inspect the tiny cut. The feathery touch of her fingers and the warmth of her breath against my skin was giving me flashbacks of this morning. Those were nice memories to have right now. "It looks fine."
"Do you know what is not fine?" She looked at me and my hands moved to her hips. "You, standing so close to me, and me having to stay still and do nothing."
"Tough luck, Ruzek." We both chuckled. "So, I was thinking…" she trailed off as she began to play with the collar of the blue denim shirt I was wearing. "I know that tomorrow night that hockey game you've been talking about for days is on, but maybe if you don't have any plans with anyone else I could go over to your place, take some beer, order a pizza and I could watch the game with you."
"You wanna watch the game with me?" I narrowed my eyes in disbelief, making her laugh.
"Well, you guys made me watch a bunch of those already, and I can't say that I haven't enjoyed them. But ultimately I just wanna spend some time with you, regardless of what's on the tv." She simply shrugged at the end of that sentence.
"If this is your master plan to make me fall in love with you, let me tell you that it is working." She blushed as I stole a quick peck from her lips. "It's a date."
