"Where the hell were you?" Erin asked so quickly I didn't even have time to process the amazing moment I had just experienced with Adam. I was still probably smiling and I had no clue how much longer that grin was going to stay fixed on my face.
"Happy New Year, Erin!" I hugged her while I tried to come up with something to tell her. "Since all of you were making out, I greeted Ruzek and then went and called my family."
"It took you forever." She was trying to get me to say something, but I was determined not to come clean like this.
"Well, I have a mother, a father, a sister, a niece." I listed as I counted with my fingers.
"And where did Ruzek go?"
"I don't know, I'm not his babysitter. He was here when I left." Damn did I have skills to play it cool.
"Hey ladies, happy new year Lindsay!" He said with a charming smile just before hugging her. "Where did everyone else go?" Adam appeared out of nowhere, and here I was thinking I got game. I looked at him and I couldn't help but bite my lower lip. Can anyone explain to me how he was able to do that? How could he keep me in awe constantly? How was it that I found myself thinking about him all the time?
"Jay is getting us a drink and Atwater and Rojas stepped out for a sec." I could see that Lindsay was as confused as I was. She had no idea where Adam had come from. "Where were you?"
"After Kim left I went to get a shot of whiskey and then to the bathroom. You all seemed busy, I didn't want to interrupt. Why?" I don't even know what he was saying. I could only think of how sexy he was when his bad ass cop persona appeared.
"No, nothing. I just…" Erin was beginning to trail off, she was totally falling for that Ruzek move. "I thought I saw you two kiss, and then I didn't see you guys anymore. Jus… forget it "
"Oh." He said with a surprised look on his face.
"We did kiss." I interrupted their little conversation and felt their eyes on me, but Adam's had a special sparkle to them. "That's the tradition, isn't it?"
"Yeah, it is." Lindsay's look has changed completely, she was smiling at me now.
After a few minutes everyone was back and the proper new year wishes were said. We stayed there for a bit longer, the drinks kept on coming and I didn't deny them. I was a bit tipsy and everything made me laugh, but I was sober enough to take advantage of the situation and to stay as close to Adam as I could, with the excuse that he was taking care of me. He really was taking care of me though, and I just wanted to jump his bones again.
Erin and Jay were the first ones to leave, followed by Kev and Vanessa who were going to his house. Before leaving I totally heard Kevin and Adam talking.
"Yes Kevin, don't worry."
"If you need anything let me know."
"What would I need, bro? I'll take her home and make sure she's alright. Not like we haven't done that before."
"I know I'm leaving her in great hands. Maybe you can even sleep over and…" I could see the smirk on Kevin's face.
"That's exactly what I was planning on doing." Adam said with a half serious half joking tone. "Go and enjoy your night with Vanessa. I'll call you tomorrow." They hugged and Kevin said the last words before getting Vanessa.
"You know, if you weren't so damn slow, you two could be having some fun, too." And just like that he disappeared through the crowd.
"Let's get you home darlin'" He walked towards me and hugged me by the waist, helping me gather all my belongings.
"You're so sweet, you're always taking care of me." I was starting to babble.
"Come on, the Uber is already outside."
"Hold up." I squeezed his hand expecting for him to look at me "I mean it."
"I know you do."
"Do you know what I want?"
"No, I don't." He answered everything I was saying as he walked us over to the car that was waiting for us.
"I want to spend all this year with you." I heard him chuckle while he opened the door for me. "Hey, it's not funny." I shot back as I scooted over the back seat making room for my boyfriend.
"It's funny because I want the same thing." He cupped my face and kissed me lightly.
I woke up in a desperate need for water. I opened my eyes so I could go to the kitchen and get myself a glass, and the little shimmer of light that was coming in from the window, felt light a spotlight directed to my face. Why did I drink so much?
As I looked around I began to realize I wasn't in my bedroom and right before I started to panic about it, I remembered that we had agreed on staying at Adam's for the night. I moved my head to look for him, but he wasn't there. I did realize two things though; for starters my head pounded like a bitch every time I moved it, and the second thing was that I was completely naked under the covers. Please universe, don't ever let me have sex with Adam and don't remember it, because that would be a real shame.
"Look who's up."
"Shhhh, you're too loud. My head hurts." I slightly moved my face to see where his voice was coming from. He was standing on the bathroom door in his gray boxers, his hair was still wet and little droplets of water were running down his shoulders and chest. Steam was coming out of the bathroom, and the whole scene looked as if it was taken out of a movie. Why did he always look so good?
"What a massive hangover you've got going." He said with a chuckle and jumped into bed, climbing on top of me and kissing my shoulder. There was something comforting about having his weight pressed up against me.
"How bad was I last night?" I asked as I ran one of my hands through my face to push random strands of hair away from my eyes.
"Hmmm…" he looked up pretending to think. "In that closet you were a really bad girl, but damn was it good."
I slapped his arm playfully. "I remember that."
"Tell me what you remember and I'll fill in the blanks for you."
"I remember everything, up until we got in the Uber."
"So, you don't remember trying to get me naked in the back seat of the car?" I could feel my eyes widening at his comment.
"You're kidding, right?"
"I am not."
"Gosh, Adam. I'm so sorry." Now both my hands were covering my face. "That must've been so embarrassing."
"Naahh." He said trying to end the whole situation and left a kiss on my neck before he got up from the bed to get some clothes. "Don't be sorry. I like it when my girlfriend wants to have me." He looked at me over his shoulder and the sexiest crooked smirk was on his face.
"For the record, Ruzek. I always want you, not only when I'm drunk." I sat up and wrapped myself around the bed sheets. He turned around holding a pair of jeans in his hands, but he just stared at me, like if he really wanted to tell me something. He opened his mouth to speak, but then he looked down and shook his head. He looked up again and pointed at me with a very judgemental finger.
"That though, was an evil move. Do you know how hard it is to have you naked next to me and doing nothing?" I knew him better than that. He wasn't going to say that before, but I decided to play along with his game.
"How hard was it?" I asked playfully.
"Oh, it was hard. That's what the morning shower was all about."
"Aww my poor baby. For a minute I was worried we had done something and I didn't remember it."
"I would never do that."
"I know. And I could never forget what being with you feels like." He smiled as he tossed one of his t-shirts at me.
"You're gonna kill me, Burgess. I'm heading to the kitchen, whenever you're ready you'll have a coffee and an aspirin waiting for you."
"And eggs and bacon?" I begged with a smile.
"Yup. Pancakes too?"
My eyes widened in delight and my smile was even bigger now. "You'd do that for you hangover girlfriend?"
"There's so much I'd do for you. You have no idea." And just like that he left the room. As I watched him walk away, his words echoed in my head and my heart felt like it was about to jump right out of my chest.
I got out of bed and into the shower, hoping that the warm water running through my body would help me feel a bit better, and it did.
Back in his room, I looked for a pair of jeans, some underwear and an old pair black vans sneakers. We had both started to leave a change of clothes in each other's apartments considering the amount of nights we were spending together had increased quite a bit, and not every time was planned, sometimes it just happened. Although I did have a clean t-shirt and a sweater lying around his place, I always preferred to wear his hoodies.
When I walked into the kitchen, he was super concentrated flipping pancakes and listening to music that he didn't realize I was there. I looked over to the kitchen island and saw the two mugs of coffee, the eggs, the bacon and the aspirin. This man was becoming such an important part of my life, he was so deep in my skin, heart and soul, I couldn't really imagine not having him around. And that thought scared the crap out of me again, but I had to be stronger and better than that. I took a deep breath and decided to do my best to put that stupid fear behind and to live and enjoy the moment. A smile instantly appeared on my face when I saw him cheering on himself when he did a perfect pancake flip.
I walked behind him and wrapped my arms around his waist, burying my face between his shoulder blades. I loved doing that, and it kind of had become our thing after the first night we slept together.
"How was the shower?" He asked as he flipped the last pancake.
"Lonely." He chuckled at my comment. "But it helped."
"Well, hopefully breakfast is going to help you even more." He turned around to kiss my lips, he was being so sweet and tender that I could feel myself melt.
"Adam?"
"Yeah…"
"What were you going to tell me back in the closet last night?"
"I don't remember. Let's have some food now, ok?"
I nodded, whatever he was holding back was going to come out sooner or later and I really didn't want to push him. "Ok." I walked over to the kitchen island and kept on talking. "But I do remember what I told you on our way here, and I meant it."
"I'm glad we're on the same page." He sat down across from me and took a sip from his mug. I will never understand how he is able to swallow his black coffee without scrunching up his nose at the strong and bitter taste of the beverage. I grabbed the free hand he left over the countertop and squeezed it.
"Are you ok, babe? You seem a little off." I couldn't make out exactly what it was, but I could sense something was up.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He put his mug down and placed his hand over mine, drawing little circles on it. "I wish we could spend today together, too." He pulled his hands away to take a hold of the fork and knife and start eating before the food got too cold. But I got the feeling he was trying no to make the conversation seem so dramatic. "I know we've talked about this already, and I understand and agree with everything we've said, but sometimes it gets hard." He sighed to stop himself from continuing talking. "Anyway, at what time do you have to be at Nicole's?"
Once again, this was me going with his flow. "Speaking of which, there's something I need to tell you."
"What happened?"
"My sister knows that we are dating." Adam stopped what he was doing and looked at me with open eyes.
"Does she?"
"So, it turns out my face sells me out when I have sex. Is that true? Why didn't you ever tell me that?" I was getting a bit distracted from the main goal of my conversation.
"Well, your face definitely changes while we're doing it. And right before too," He looked straight into my eyes with so much intimacy that it made me blush. "Your eyes squint and your cheeks slightly blush, and there's one vein that goes down your neck that gently pops up." He stopped to get another sip from his coffee. Knowing that he had taken the time to pay attention to absolutely everything, and that he understood me in a way no one ever did made my heart skip a beat. "I guess after you just look…"
"Happy" I finished his sentence. Every time I was with him I did feel happy and most of all I felt loved. I should have told him that. But I chickened out.
"Yeah, happy." He smiled and stuck a forkful of pancakes in his mouth.
"So, long story short, she asked me who I had slept with and I kind of told her I've been seeing you. Now, I know I should have told you about this, but it only happened a few days ago, and…"
"Darlin' relax, it's alright. I like the fact that she knows about us."
"You do?"
"Yeah. It's one less person we have to hide from" he chuckled before taking another drink of his coffee. "And, can I ask what she said?"
"She said that she always knew I liked you and that she was happy to see me happy." I shrugged and continued eating. "Ruze, this tastes amazing." I spoke with my mouth still full making him laugh.
"Thanks, glad you like it. I'm also glad I make you happy, even if it is only after sex." He teased.
"You make me happy all the time." I hopped off my bench and walked over to kiss him on the cheek. "And I'm gonna get more pancakes, do you want some?"
"No, but I do want another one of these." He stood up and firmly grabbed my hips to hold me in place as his lips attacked mine, leaving me gasping for air.
"I will not engage in the morning kissing because I have to be at Nicole's in like an hour, and I won't want to stop if we continue making out like that."
"Ok. Just one more?" I nodded and wrapped my arms around his neck to kiss him one more time. I could spend the whole day like this.
"I have a controversial idea." My comment came out shyly.
"Let's hear it."
"Maybe, after you leave your dad's house, you can stop over at Nicole's? It's just gonna be her Zoe and Jordan, my mom's not gonna be there that late and dad went last night I think. I mean you can totally say no. I know I'm kind of coming out of the blue with this, I just thought that maybe…" My words were speeding out of my mouth, I didn't know saying this was going to make me so nervous.
"Ok, baby? Stop and breathe for a sec. I like your controversial idea. I'll be there."
"Yeah?"
"Yeah. I mean it kind of makes me nervous, but I'll definitely be there." I smiled and left a little tiny kiss on his neck.
"And if you want, you can sleep over at my place. Maybe tonight I can be naked next to you and you can actually do something." I whispered the last part in his ear.
"We can definitely do that, I always want to spend the night with you."
We finished having breakfast, only this time I moved my stool next to him to snuggle a little while we ate. I felt like a teenager every time I was around him, the excitement, the need to have some part of our bodies touching, the butterflies constantly fluttering in my stomach, I felt it all when it came to Adam.
Once we finished he dropped me off at my apartment so I could get changed and head to Nicole's.
It was going to be an interesting evening
