Hey everyone, happy Saturday!
I hope you're all doing great.
As always, I want to thank you for reading and reviewing, it totally keeps me motivated and I love to see you enjoy reading this story as much as I enjoy writing it.
For those asking, I was planning on writing a sequel for this story . I have some ideas already but haven't started writing anything yet, since I'm trying to focus on the stories I'm currently writing.
But if you guys want a sequel, I'll definitely work on that!
One more chapter to go!
Happy ready, and thanks for your constant support!
Xoxo,
Nina

It didn't take a lot of work for me to wake up, which was practically a miracle. The stress and worry of not knowing exactly how Adam was, and sleeping on that chair was interfering in the natural course of my sleep. The good thing about it was that I actually got to wake up before him, and there was something soothing about watching him sleep, his muscles relaxed and the soft rising and falling of his chest. Looking at him made me smile, I couldn't help it. I never thought it was possible to feel something so strong and intense for someone until I allowed myself to open up to my partner.
I had no idea what the future was holding for us, but I was thrilled to know that I had a future with him. Whatever it was, I knew we were going to make it work.
I shifted my face to look at the door when I realized someone was standing there.
"Good morning Kim."
"Good morning Marla. How are you?"
"I'm fine dear. It's almost breakfast time, do you want me to bring you something for you with Adam's food?"
"Nah, I'm fine. I'll get something from the cafeteria when he wakes up."
"He'll be fine. You can go now if you want."
"I know." I trailed off for a bit. The memories of me waiting for him to wake up from the coma still haunted me. "I just want to say good morning first." I shrugged, which only got Marla to come sit next to me and hold my hands between hers. Well, apparently that was all I needed to start sobbing like a little girl who had just lost her blanket. "I guess I'm still scared."
"I know exactly what that feels like. But I don't think you have a reason to be scared anymore." Marla moved one hand and started to strike my hair softly. "Look at him, he looks fine, at peace, he's strong and healthy and most importantly, he has a love to fight for." Hearing her words just made me want to cry even more. I gripped the cuff of my sleeve and used the fabric of my shirt to dry the tears off my face. "Now, you stay here until he wakes up and I will bring breakfast for both of you." She kissed the top of my head and left the room.
I moved closer to Adam's bed and reached for his hand. I stayed like that for a few minutes until he started to stir a bit and his eyes began to open.
"Morning. You sleep good?" I asked after leaving a soft kiss on his cheek.
"I did." He looked worried and concerned. "What's wrong? Were you crying?"
"No." He sported that look that he uses on our suspects, the one that says that he's not buying a single word of what he's hearing. "Ok, maybe a little."
"Why?"
"I don't know. I guess I'm just releasing stress." I sighed. "I just want you to be alright and go home with you."
"Babe, I am alright. In fact I'm perfectly fine, you can stop worrying now." He squeezed my hand a little bit tighter. "But I do agree with you. I'm desperate to go home." He looked straight into my eyes before he spoke again. "But I need you to do something for me."
"Yeah, anything."
"If I don't get to leave today, if I need to stay here just a little longer, you need to go and stay at your place for the night."
"No."
"Darlin', I love how much you care about me, but you really need to relax and sleep in a real bed and eat a decent meal."
"Can we talk about this after doctor Hudson comes?"
"Can you humor me, and just go and rest?"
I didn't really like the thought of being away from him, but he wasn't gonna let me argue my way away from this, and to be honest, I desperately needed a real bed.
"Only if your doctor reassures me that everything is fine."
"Ok, but you should keep in mind that Dr. Hudson will be thrilled to send you home."
"Then I'll talk to Marla." I said as soon as I saw her walk through the door.
"Oh, don't you drag me into that. I agree with him, you need some quality sleep. If he needs to spend another night here I'll stay with him." Marla answered sweetly. I think the only thing I'm going to miss about this place is this wonderful woman.
"This plot you have going on against me is not gonna work." I said with a playful smile before I stood up and lightly kissed Adam. "I'll be right back."
"Oh no miss." Marla's voice was so motherly. "You're not moving until you finish your breakfast."
"You heard the lady. Take a seat." Adam said, almost laughing at me.
"Although I'm going to miss you, I am positive that today is your last day here detective." She spoke calmly as she handed Adam his tray and later did the same thing with me. "And knowIng how much of a difficult patient he is, you are going to need to get all the energy you can." She looked at me with a bright smile on her face. "So, sit there and enjoy your food."
"Thanks Marla. We're gonna miss you too. But Adam and I are here often to check on suspects or victims, so we will definitely see you again."
"I'd like that very much." Marla hugged us each and left us to have breakfast together.
Adam's mood was quickly improving, it only took a couple of seconds for him to make me crack up with his funny comments and jokes.
"I see that you're having a great time here." A voice interrupted our laughter.
"We are doc, but I would much rather be at home. Please tell me you have good news for me."
"As a matter of fact I do. Your scan came out perfect, so we really have no reason to keep you here. I have already signed your discharge papers, but you need to come back regularly so we can check you up and see how everything is healing." Doctor Hudson stopped for a bit and looked at me, I couldn't really decipher the look he was giving me. "I have good news for you too. For the next few days he's going to need all the help he can get. I'm assuming you will be taking care of that." Now he was laughing.
"Of course I will. Anything in particular we need to know?" I really wanted to make sure we did everything by the book so he could get better as soon as possible.
"I will give you the prescriptions for his medicine and how he should be taking those. Also, you're staying at home for at least a week, and then desk duty." He looked straight to Adam when he said that part.
"For how long?" Adam sounded worried. He was going to hate not being out on the field.
"That depends on how well you recover. But for that, you really need to comply with everything I'm saying right now." Adam nodded like a little kid who was just scolded. "No physical activity. Of any kind." Dr. Hudson really stressed that last part and I knew exactly what he was referring to. The look of panic on my boyfriend's face was even worse than when the doctor mentioned desk duty, and I'm sure Dr. Hudson was secretly laughing about that. Sure Adam could handle a couple of weeks taking it easy at work, but how long could he handle no sex for? "At least until you come for your first check up and we'll see how to take it from there."
"Thanks Doctor. He'll do everything he has to."
"I know he will with you looking out for him. I'll leave all the paperwork with Marla as well as my contact information. Just call me if you have any questions or if you're not feeling well. I'll see you in a couple of days for your appointment." He shook Adam's hand with a smile on his face. "And I'm sure I will be seeing you too, Kim." He shook my hand and left the room.
"Yeah! I'm going home." He was so happy. I know how much he hated hospitals, so being sent home must have been a huge relief. "Could you help me get my stuff ready?"
"Sure. Just let me write to your parents first." I stood up and nervously started to move around the room, putting the breakfast trays over a little table that was in the room and trying to find my phone.
"Wait."
"What? What happened? Do you feel alright?" The real question was what was happening to me? Why was I so nervous?
"Yeah babe, I'm fine. But can we just be us for a sec? I'm a bit drowsy and I just want to go to my place and get some peace and quiet."
"You mean, our place?" The gleam in his eyes could brighten the whole room, it was surely brightening my heart.
"Yeah. Our place." He confirmed with the biggest grin I've ever seen on his face. "I'll call my parents later, after we get settled. Is that ok?"
"I'm ok with whatever you decide regarding that. I just want you to feel good." He smiled again and nodded. "Let's get your stuff ready then."
We were so eager to get out of there that we managed to get everything ready in record time. Adam refused to be pushed out in a wheelchair and went for the crutches instead, he was having so much fun with them, that he laughed all the way to my car.
His place was surprisingly tidy when we got there. I left the bags that I was carrying right next to the door and ushered him to sit on the couch, before turning on the tv and handing him the remote. I was determined to get everything ready and to go pick up some groceries for the next few days, but his voice stopped me.
"Where are you going?"
"I'm going to leave your stuff in your room, get you some more pillows and then run to the store to get us some food."
"You know you can relax now, right?"
"Um… no. I need to get all that done first." I looked at him as if he was saying something completely insane. There was no way I could relax now with so many things needing to be done.
"No. What you need is a hug and what I need is for you to cuddle with me for a bit. Let's unwind and then I'll help you do everything we need to do. Ok?" He was doing his best to convince me, and just when he gave me that lopsided smile I felt how his tactics were working. I walked towards the couch in total defeat with my head down, he stretched his hand out to me and I took it, sitting carefully next to him and slowly resting my head on his chest. His arms were instantly wrapped around me, and he was totally right, I desperately needed that. I looked up and found his eyes staring at me with so much tenderness.
"I love you." He looked at me but didn't say anything, he just dipped his head lower and pressed his lips against mine. It wasn't wild, there was no frenetic dance of our tongues, it was just our lips touching, but it was so meaningful and as intense as any other one of our kisses. We just stayed like that for a while until he slowly moved away.
"I love you too."
We ended up falling asleep on the couch. When I woke up in his arms my mind traveled to that time when I fell asleep and it was only the two of us, that time when I realized that I was beginning to look at him differently, when I was realizing that I was falling hard for my partner. I held on to him as close as I could without hurting him and just stayed there trying to absorb the rising and falling of his breathing.
Sometimes it was hard for me to take in everything that my life had turned to be. I had a killer job, I made detective, things with my dad were much better only because I was feeling much better. I know that I did a lot of hard work to feel better about myself, but this guy I was holding on to, he helped me see things much more clearly. I was lucky to have him, to have his love and support, he made me a better person and I only hoped to mean to him the same he meant to me, because gosh, it's one hell of an overwhelming feeling.
Sitting here on his couch, feeling the thudding of his heart and smelling his cologne, I realized that this is what I wanted and needed the most. I wanted everything with this man, I'm hopelessly in love with him and I can affirm that it doesn't matter where we are or in whose apartment we are living, everything is fine as long as we're together.
"That was one hell of a nap." His raspy voice full of sleep made me come back to reality. I left my hand on his chest and looked up at him trying my best not to move my head from where it was.
"It was." I made a brief pause before speaking. "Permission to speak like a clingy girlfriend?"
"Permission granted." The smile on his face told me that he was having fun with this.
"You have no idea how much I missed sleeping with you."
"Well darlin', that's because I'm irresistible." And just like that Ruzek flirt mode was on, I was laughing to my insides but on the outside I just bit my bottom lip and rolled my eyes.
"Shut up, Ruzek."
"What? It's not like we can keep our hands off of each other." We both laughed.
"We're gonna have to though, God knows for how long."
"Aghhh." He whined. "Don't even remind me about it. Crap!" His frustration made me laugh out loud.
"Come on, we've got this! It might be fun and all." He looked at me with furrowed brows and the cutest scrunched up nose ever.
"Fun? Really?" I nodded and he completely ignored me which just caused me to laugh again. "The positive thing here is that no one can tell us we can't sleep on the same bed tonight. Or any other night for that matter." His eyes were glowing and I knew he was talking about us moving together with that last part of the sentence.
"Yeah, about that…"
"What?" He made an attempt to switch his position and sit up, but the pain running in his body didn't give him a chance to move much. "Did you change your mind?"
"Could you relax for a bit?" I asked as I lightly chuckled trying to reduce his stress level a little. "No, I did not change my mind, but maybe we need to discuss some things about the actual moving part."
"Of course. What are you thinking? Because you clearly thought about this already." I smiled, he knew me so well.
"I did. I'm going to be staying with you for as long as you need right now, but I'm only bringing some of my clothes over. I figured that once you're better we can sit down and decide what to keep and what to give out or sell. I could do it now…" He didn't let me finish.
"I don't want you to do that alone. I want us to do that together. Like part of our story, you know?" The warm feeling invaded my heart again.
"I want that too." My hand was now moving up and down his chest.
"And I would also appreciate feeling like a real man and moving things around and lifting heavy things." That just made me burst out in laughter.
"You are a real man."
"Mehh… not until I can do physical activities." He wiggled his eyebrows making me laugh, he wasn't talking about the moving at all.
"I promise you baby, we will make this fun."
"Whatever you say."
