Titanosaurus: The Tides of War
Sea-Base 38 was one of G-Force's many oceanic outposts that were meant to study and monitor the pathways of Kaiju, as well as act as early warning systems to the mainland whenever one was on its way to make landfall. This base, in particular, had been working on what the head of the facility claimed would revolutionize the way to combat monsters. Something deputy director Miki Saegusa had heard several times over during her time working in G-Force, all of which did little to stop the monsters from still coming ashore. But the head of this new supposed miracle project swore that this time, it would work, and the best part was that it would be harmless to both man and Kaiju alike. While Director Yashiro was skeptical that such a thing could exist, Miki, on the other hand, was more optimistic than her leader was.
That's how it had always been between Akane and Miki, both having vastly opposite views when it came to Kaiju. While neither wanted their total extinction, the head of G-Force was more realistic that the chances of coexistence with the giant creatures were totally impossible. However, Miki had hopes that the work that the team of Sea-Base 38 was conducting could change that. Ever since Miki had joined G-Force, she wanted peace between man and Kaiju, hence using her mental abilities to help bridge the gap between the two warring species. As the years rolled on, her psychic abilities began to lose much of their strength, but she remained on G-Force, aiding to teach other young telepaths so that her work could be carried on. Soon, when Akane was named the new director of G-Force after years of being among the piloting team for Kiryu, the third Mechagodzilla, she hand-picked Miki to be her second in command, saying that she needed a peaceful hand to help through dangerous times.
And these were dangerous times indeed. For while Miki had done to see this supposed miracle, a war was raging out among the stars. Even now, the Infinity League was doing battle with the cosmic entity known as the Phoenix. But shortly before they engaged the being, all communication with the League's orbital base went dead, making G-Force, and the other government powers and agencies, begin to fear the worst had happened. G-Force scanners had even detected that Mothra had departed out into space to face the Phoenix, making Miki worried that the Queen of the Monsters might not return this time. [1] Despite this alarming news, the world was forced to continue on as if it were just another day, though the flashes of fire in the sky made everyone on Earth fear the worst.
"You sure this is legit, boss?" Miki's accomplice inquired.
The deputy director looked up from her laptop where she was reading up any updates on the Infinity League and looked across from the passenger cabin in the helicopter they were riding in to face the one who had spoken to her, Owen Grady. Once a former Naval Special Ops turned animal behaviorist, Owen had been tasked by his superiors at InGen to help with a project they claimed was meant to study the pack mentality and communication of the raptors at Jurassic World. After imprinting on a newly hatched clutch of raptors, Owen trained and studied the sisters for years as they grew into adulthood. Sadly, it was just as he had gained the pack's trust that his superiors revealed to him that they wanted to use the raptors as weapons of war, which he refused to be a part of. To make matters worse, Jurassic World's hybrid abomination, the Indominus Rex, escaped and wreaked havoc on the park, leading to its closure and abandonment until Mcfist Industries bought out InGen and moved the dinosaurs to Isla Sorna. [2]
Now without a job, Owen thought he would be cast to the side. That was until G-Force came to recruit him after showing interest in his connection and studies of the raptors he had raised. With not much else in terms of a job, and Claire leaving him rather than living in a van like he wanted to, Owen took the job and soon found himself working on the study of creatures much larger than dinosaurs. Since joining the Kaiju defense force, the former dino-handler had been closely studying Anguirus. But Miki requested Owen's input on this project since it dealt with communication with other species, something the former soldier knew quite a bit about.
"That's what you're going to help me find out, Owen," Miki replied.
"I gotta say, ma'am, I'm a little skeptical about all this," Owen admitted. "I mean, a device like the one they're talking about sounds too good to be true."
"Have faith, Owen," the second in command assured. "Who knows? If this all works out, you can finally have time to build that house on Monster Island."
"We're approaching Sea-Base 38, ma'am," the pilot informed her.
Miki looked out the window to look upon the oceanic base that she was to land upon. It was once an oil rig that been converted into a research station by G-Force, and though the base was filled with advanced technology above the waves, the true station lied beneath the sea. Upon landing on the heil-pad, they were greeted by a redheaded woman wearing a green coat and tan pants.
"Welcome to Sea-Base 38, Deputy Director," the woman greeted as she shook her hand. "I'm Dr. Sarah Harding."
"Wait, THE Sarah Harding?" Owen inquired. "As in-"
"Yes, I'm THAT Sarah Harding," the woman confirmed. "You're not the only person who's had close encounters with dinosaurs, Mr. Grady."
As Sarah had said, she too had some experience with the creations of InGen. A few years after the fall of the original Jurassic Park, Sarah had been contacted by John Hammond personally to closely study the dinosaurs on Isla Sorna after they had been abandoned by their creators. During her time there, she, along with her ex, Dr. Ian Malcolm, someone who also had experience with Jurassic Park, encountered various dangers from both the dinosaurs and the squad that InGen had sent in to collect the creatures, which led to a T-Rex rampage in San Diego. After a short time back in Africa studying big cats out in the wild, G-Force offered her a position to study Kaiju, to which she eagerly accepted.
"I've read up on your recent studies on Gorosaurs, Dr. Harding. Very nice work," Miki began. "But I'm curious. Why did you pass on working with the Rodan team?"
"Well, I wanted to stay on the ground, for starters," Sarah admitted. "Besides, I couldn't pass up the chance to work with Dr. Grant."
"Well, if that's the case, why are you here?" Owen inquired.
"The head of Sea-Base 38 asked for my personal input on the project he and his team had been working on," Sarah answered. "Which I'll be happy to show you both."
Sarah then led the other member of G-Force into the complex, passing various rooms filled with scanners, communications, and Kaiju tracking patterns. Of course, this was all surface-level equipment. The real work was down below. Sarah led Miki and Owen to an elevator where, upon entering it, took them down to the below sea levels of the outpost. It was here that the research and development of new technology was conducted. Once the trio stepped out of the elevator, the deputy director and former soldier were greeted by the interior of the base's headquarters, which was filled with various G-Force members at their stations, working as they kept tabs on the Kaiju that they were currently studying. One of the walls was made of glass, allowing the team to look out into the vastness of the ocean.
"Ah, Deputy Director Saegusa," came a voice off to the side. "I'm glad you could make it."
Miki and Owen turned to see a man approaching them. He was elderly with a balding scalp, a small white beard on his face, and wore a blue jacket and pants with a G-Force cap on his head.
"Dr. Hooper, I presume?" Miki assumed.
"Please, call me Matt," the man offered as he shook her hand.
Matt Hooper was another person who studied wildlife before finding himself being recruited by G-Force. Matt was once an oceanographer who specialized in the study of sharks. It was because of this that he was called in to assist with an investigation of a shark attack on a small island town called Amity in the summer of 1975. However, little did Hooper know that this particular shark attack would not only change his life but also go down as one of the most infamous series of shark attacks in history. It started with the death of a young girl who had been swimming out at sea at night. Following that attack, another swimmer, this time, a young boy, had been consumed by what Hooper discovered was a rogue Great White Shark.
Hooper, along with Amity's sheriff, Chief Martin Brody, tried to convince the town's mayor to delay the 4th of July celebrations for fear of more deaths. But their pleas fell on deaf ears, and because of that, another person was killed by the rouge shark. After finally getting the go-ahead from the mayor, Hooper, Brody, and a local shark hunter named Quint went out to the open ocean to kill the shark. They did slay the man-eater, though Quint was the last victim the shark would claim before its death. However, though the rouge was dead, Hooper had no idea that this one dark moment would forever have ramifications on the sea life he loved so much.
After that bloody summer of '75, mass panic gripped the beachgoers across the world, leading to mass killings of all species of sharks for decades. Devastated and feeling partly guilty at aiding in the mass genocide of the animals he cared deeply for, Hooper fell into a deep depression, even being unable to complete his work on the open ocean research station, the Aurora, or be of any help to Brody when another Great White laid siege to Amity in 1978. But just when he was on the verge of retiring from his passion, something happened while he was on the Aurora that would not only rekindle his spark for studying wildlife but also result in him joining G-Force as well.
"It's an honor to meet you, sir," Owen greeted as he shook Matt's hand. "I've followed your work for years."
"Likewise," the fellow G-Force member replied. "Though you're a braver man than I am. At least the sharks stayed in the water."
"Dr. Hooper, you've spoken about a new device to combat Kaiju," Miki mentioned. "We're eager to see what exactly it is."
"You will once our guest of honor arrives," Dr. Hooper answered before looking toward the window wall. "Ah, here he comes now."
Before anyone could ask what he had meant by that, the base's various sensors and scanners began to blare out a warning to everyone within the station, signaling that a Kaiju was approaching. Everyone looked out from the massive window wall as a massive shadowy form slowly swam up toward the undersea base. Out of the shadows came a large reptilian form that slowly came into view for all to see. The aquatic Kaiju was red and yellow scaled with yellow fins adorning its back. Everyone remained silent as still at the sight of the giant beast until someone spoke up.
"Titanosaurus..." Owen gasped.
First appearing in 1975, the Kaiju known as Titanosaurus became know to the world when he attacked and destroyed a submarine that was searching for the wreckage of the first Mechagodzilla. It was later discovered that the beast had been found by a renowned scientist, Dr. Shinzo Mafune, who had befriended the monster. However, that friendship was abused when Dr. Mafune's colleges fired him for trying to find a way to control the beast. Enslaving Titanosaurus to his will, Dr. Mafune vowed revenge against those who had wronged him. The now mad scientist then allied himself with the Simians, a race of shape-shifting aliens who had attempted to take over the world with their weapon, Mechagodzilla, only to be stopped by Godzilla and a new ally, King Caesar. With a newly reconstructed Mechagodzilla and Titanosaurus at his side, the aliens and the mad doctor unleashed the two monsters on Japan, only to be yet again be defeated by the King of the Monsters.
Since then, Titanosaurus, a once kind and gentle beast, had become resentful of humans for the betrayal he suffered at Mafune and occasionally attacked various cities across the globe over the years but mostly remained in the ocean depths, far from the evils of man. Though Titanosaurus was violent Kaiju, he was only aggressive when provoked, much like Godzilla. As the sea beast swam by the glass, it kept its yellow eye on the humans who were looking back at him as if he was sizing them up.
"He's tense," Owen noted before asking Matt "You don't have any weapons powered up right now?"
"Nope, not a one," Hooper confirmed. "He's just grumpy from waking up from a nap."
"This is amazing, Dr. Hooper," Miki mentioned. "Titanosaurus has a great distrust of humans. How are you able to get him this close to us?"
"That's what we brought you here to show you," Sarah replied.
It was then that Matt took out a device at set it on a nearby table for Miki and Owen to see. It was a square-shaped machine with several frequencies on the screen.
"Imagine if we could ward off Kaiju from ever making landfall without firing a single shot," Matt began. It's a hope that's driven me to work on this project for the past ten years."
"What is it?" Owen asked.
"We call it the Orca," Sarah answered. "It's a machine that can use various frequencies to either attract or repel Kaiju."
"Wait, Orca?" the former dino-handler questioned. "Does that stand for something?"
"No, I named it after a...a friend," Hooper answered.
"You mentioned something about frequencies," Miki mentioned. "What did you mean by that?"
"Each frequency is specially tuned to each Kaiju," Matt explained. "Think of it: With the Orca, we can finally have a world where man and Kaiju can coexist in peace. It's how we attracted Titanosaurus here in the first place to show how it works. We've been testing it on him for nearly six months now, and the data we've getting is nothing short of amazing!"
"Right, and what does ol' Titano think of all this?" Owen asked. "I bet he doesn't like being someone's genuine pig again after what Mafune did to him."
"The Orca isn't painful to him, Mr. Grady. We've made certain of that," Matt assured. "I'm not gonna hurt him after all he did for me."
"What do you mean?" Own inquired.
"Years ago, when I was on the Aurora, I felt...listless. Like all my work was for nothing after what happened after Amity," Hooper began. "It was three months into my time on the station that a pod of whales we had been studying in the area had suddenly fled without a trace, and it wasn't long before I found out why."
The head of Sea-Base 38 then gestured to the Kaiju that was swimming just outside the glass wall.
"I'd never seen a Kaiju up close until him," Matt continued. "We had heard stories of how aggressive Titanosaurus was, and we were afraid that he'd tear the whole station apart. But he just swam around us for about an hour or so before leaving. After that, I had this spark for my profession light up again, but this time I wanted to learn everything I could about Kaiju, particularly Titanosaurus. So, after my time on the Aurora was over, I went straight to Japan to join G-Force. And the rest is history."
It was an amazing thing to hear for the other G-Force members that one of their own's desire to join the research and defense organization came from such a peaceful encounter, especially with such an aggressive Kaiju like Titanosaurus. Many G-Force members were recruited for their expertise in a similar field as the study in mega-fauna while others joined the organization after seeing these walking gods in the midst of one of their rampages and became enthralled by their sheer power.
"May we have a demonstration of the Orca, Dr. Hooper?" Miki asked.
"I thought you'd never ask, ma'am," Hooper obliged before looking over to Sarah. "Sarah, if you would?"
Sarah nodded back to Matt before going over to the Orca. As she switched on the device, Matt began to explain the inner workings of his revolutionary machine.
"The Orca emits a sonic frequency that interacts with the migration instincts within a Kaiju's brain," he began. "That frequency allows us to either repel or attract them from wherever or to wherever we see fit."
"And what exactly is this frequency made of?" Owen questioned.
"We mixed the calls of various Kaiju together to create several unique sounds that are specifically designed for each monster," Sarah answered as she made the final arrangements. "We're still working on the right frequencies for the other Kaiju, but we've perfected the one for Titanosaurus so far."
"Once we get the 'OK' from Director Yashiro, we can begin our work on the other Kaiju's frequencies," Matt continued.
Having said that, Sarah switched on the Orca. A strange, wailing sound began to fill the room as it reached out to the aquatic beast. Upon hearing the sound, Titanosaurus' head suddenly perked up as he came to a halt in the water. Miki and Owen tensed up, as they feared the worst. Kaiju were unpredictable in terms of their behavior, and the slightest change in their environment could set them off. Thankfully, however, the aquatic reptile remained still for a moment or two before turning away from the base and swimming back into the darkness of the surrounding sea.
Miki and Own were amazed by what they had just witnessed. Not only was a highly aggressive Kaiju driven away, but it was done without firing a single shot at the creature to do so. However, despite this astonishing revelation, the former special-ops inwardly had some concerns. But out of respect for his boss, he remained quiet for now.
"Let's talk in my office," Matt suggested to the others. "I've got a feeling that you've all got a lot to say."
Matt and Sarah lead Miki and Owen to Matt's office, which a large room filled with paintings and statues of marine life. Behind the head of Sea-Base 38's desk was a massive window wall that allowed those within the room to look out into the open ocean. Matt took a seat at his desk as he pulled out a bottle of brandy and glass to pour it into.
"Anyone else want some?" he inquired to his guests. "I feel like celebrating."
"Celebrating, what, exactly?" Owen questioned
"For the approval of the Orca, of course," Dr. Hooper elaborated. "I think it's pretty clear that it was a total success."
"Hold on, Dr. Hooper, nothing has been approved yet," Miki pointed out. "And it might not be for a while."
"Forgive me, Deputy Director, I didn't mean approval for immediate field use," Matt said. "We, of course, have to study each Kaiju and learn as to which frequency can-"
"Dr. Hooper, I might not approve of this machine at all," Miki cut him off,
Those words hit both Sarah and Matt like a train. After what they had witnessed, they still wanted to refuse to approve what could revolutionize the way the world interacted with Kaiju.
"With all due respect ma'am, that's absurd!" Sarah stated, "You just saw the Orca peacefully drive away Titanosaurus. How could you say no after that?!"
"It's remarkable, yes, but it also raises too many questions at the same time," the second in command of G-Force explained. "You have the power to drive one Kaiju away, but how long did that take? Months? Years? And what if one frequency stops one Kaiju but attracts another? Or if there's a glitch in the system and it only enrages the monster you're trying to stop."
"Not to mention that this tech could be bad news if it fell into the wrong hands," Owen added. "Could you image the damage someone like Cobra Commander, Black Hat, or Bison could do if they got ahold of this thing? And there's been something else that's been on my mind since I saw your machine in action."
Owen then walked up to a now irritated Matt Hooper.
"The Orca reminds me of someone that also used sonics to control Kaiju," he furthered in a steely voice. "Tell me, Doc, did you use any of the tech from the aliens of Planet X to build this thing?"
Everyone's eyes widened at that accusation, all except for Matt, who glowered back at Owen. Years ago, after Godzilla and Rodan managed to beat Ghidorah and his alien masters at the time, the wreckage of the controller of Planet X's ship was collected by G-Force and stored away in a research station for the organization's top minds to closely study it, as well as keep it out of the hands of the various countries who might wish to harness the alien power for their own.
"I STUDIED it," Dr. Hooper admitted. "And I don't appreciate the accusation, Mr. Grady."
"Yeah, well, I've seen what happens when big brains play with stuff they shouldn't," Owen answered before glancing to his right. "Isn't that right, Dr. Harding?"
Sarah looked away in shame. As if she hadn't realized until now that she had become someone like the board of directors at InGen.
"Matt..." she slowly began. "Maybe we should run more tests, just to be safe."
"Are you serious right now?" Matt nearly shouted in disbelief. "We have a chance to peacefully coexist with the Kaiju, and you want to throw it away?!"
He then looked over to Miki directly.
"I know that's what you've wanted all this time, ma'am," he insisted.
Before Miki could answer him, the base began to blare an alarm as red lights started to flash, indicating that the base was soon to fall under attack by a Kaiju. Sarah, Owen, and Miki gave a collective look to Dr. Hooper, who said nothing response before the four of them headed back to the control center to see what had launched an attack on the base.
The alarms continued to sound as Matt and the rest of the group entered the command center, where the staff members who were at their monitors were franticly trying to assess the oncoming threat.
"It is it Titanosaurus?" Sarah questioned.
"No, ma'am," one staff member denied. "We're picking up three Kaiju signatures heading our way from different directions."
"I wonder what drew them here?" Owen pondered as he eyed Hooper.
"Can you ID the Kaiju?" Miki questioned the staff.
"Our long-range scanners are identifying them now, ma'am," a staff member said.
"We have the identification coming in now," another staff member added. "The incoming Kaiju are Maguma, Gezora, and Ebirah!"
That instantly got everyone's attention. Though all three Kaiju were not the biggest threats by themselves, all three together could make themselves a formidable force to be reckoned with. The first monster, Maguma, was a massive walrus-like creature that had been awakened in 1980 when a research team in the South Pole were using testing a ship that would help them save the planet from the rogue planet known as Gorath from smashing into Earth. Since his reawakening, Maguma had been mostly keeping to the arctic seas at the bottom of the world. But due to recent climate changes, the massive mammal had been traveling further and further from his native homeland, bringing him into conflict with G-Force whenever he attacked a shipping vessel that crossed his path.
The second was another aquatic behemoth known as Gezora. Appearing in 1970, Gezora was once nothing more than a cuttlefish. However, the tiny animal had been mutated into a Kaiju when it came in contact with a parasitic alien lifeform being. This 'Space Amoeba' came to Earth via hijacking a deep space probe before sending it back to Earth, where it not only infected the cuttlefish that would become Gezora but also mutate a turtle and hermit crab into the monsters that would come to be known as Kamoebas and Gamines. Together, the three monsters laid siege to an island resort before being driven off to the sea by a group of tourists. Gezora, like the other two Kaiju, wasn't the strongest of monsters, but still posed a threat nonetheless.
Finally, there was the final Kaiju, who had been also known as the Horror of the Deep: Ebirah. First discovered in 1966, Ebirah had been enslaved by a terrorist group known as the Red Bamboo, who used the giant lobster as a sort of guard dog to keep the natives they had kidnapped from Infant Island from escaping. However, Ebirah met his match when Godzilla, who had been asleep on the island. After he awakened, he engaged him in battle, to which Ebirah quickly lost to the King of the Monsters. After Ebrirah fled to regrow the limbs he lost in his fight with the alpha predator, Godzilla laid waste to the Red Bamboo's base before going back to the sea while Mothra arrived to save her subjects from the island's self-destruction. Since then, Ebirah had become more of a nuisance than a real threat, only attacking ships and oil rigs before a Super-X would drive him back into the depths of the ocean once more.
"You proud of yourself, Doc?" Owen chided. "You're a regular John Hammond now."
"This...This has never happened before," Matt said in disbelief. "Whenever we tested the Orca, no other Kaiju were in the area other than Titanosaurus."
"Maybe that was the problem," Sarah surmised. "This was Titanosaurus' territory, so when we drove him away, the others must've come to claim it."
"And the Orca must have drawn more of them in while Titanosaurus left," Miki added on as she put the pieces together.
"Tell me that this place has defenses," Owen questioned.
"No, we took them out in order to get Titanosaurus to trust us," Hooper denied
"And we don't know the frequencies to drive them off!" Sarah furthered.
It was at that moment of despair that the members of G-Force saw a shape swimming toward the undersea part of the base via the viewing glass. The shape in question was Maguma, and he was barreling toward the undersea base at full speed, ready to tear the base apart with his tusks. However, it was then that a fourth Kaiju signal began to go off as a new monster began to swim toward Magmua at a break-neck pace. Just before Maguma could reach the base, the fourth Kaiju reached out and grabbed the giant walrus by his back flippers. Much to everyone's surprise, it was Titanosaurus, who let out a bubble-filled roar and yanked Maguma away from the base, flinging him into a nearby deep-sea rock quarry. As the aquatic dinosaur held his ground, the members of G-Force were stunned by the Kaiju's seemingly selfless act.
"What's he doing here?" Sarah questioned. "The Orca should've driven Titanosaurus away from this place for hours!"
"Did you call him back?" Owen question.
"No, the signal was only meant to keep him away," Hooper answered.
"Maybe it has nothing to do with the signal at all," Miki suggested. "Maybe what it is...is that Titanosaurus came here to save you."
"Me?" Matt asked, dumbstruck. "But why? Titanosaurus doesn't give a damn about humans after what Mafune did to him. Why should he start caring now?"
"Because you must mean something to him," the deputy director surmised.
In a way, Deputy Director Saegusa was right. In his time studying the aquatic titan, he had formed a sort of bond with the Kaiju. In the years he had spent studying the creature, he had also spent that time trying to earn the monster's trust, which was not an easy thing to do. He spent weeks out on a small motorboat studying the giant as he swam through the sea. As time went on, Titanosaurus would allow him to get closer to him with each visit, earning more of the Kaju's trust as he did. At first, Hooper didn't want to be attached to the very monster who he was using a genie pig for his tests and had killed thousands of people over the years since he made landfall. But at the same time, he couldn't deny that Titanosaurus was the one thing that kept him going all this time.
For the longest time now, the elder scientist had been contemplating retirement. But then he thought: What was there out there for him outside of his work? All his life, he had been dedicated to his work. Whether that be his time as a lone scientist or working with G-Force and nothing else. He never had a wife or a house for himself, for that matter. It all seemed so boring to him. But whenever he was deep in his research, he felt alive. As he watched the Kaiju he had spent his whole life studying, he couldn't help but feel grateful that he had come to save him.
Back outside the base, Titanosaurus let out a cry as he pounded his fists together as a warning to Maguma as the giant walrus pulled itself out of the rubble. The massive mammal let out a wail in response, showing that he was going to flee from the battle. Titanosaurus was perplexed by this standoffish behavior from the rival sea creature. Normally, when Maguma would be approached by another Kaiju, he would flee due to the fact that he was one of the weaker monsters out in the world. But this time, it was different. This time, it appeared as though Maguma wanted to stay and fight, to which Titanosaurus was happy to oblige. However, before the aquatic dinosaur could engage the other monster in a fight, something had reached out and entangled itself around his body from behind. It was Gezora, whose tentacles began to tighten around his body as several of its limbs began to slither upwards toward Titanosaurus' elongated throat.
Now it made sense as to why Maguma didn't flee when he had the chance to. He was waiting for help. It was little studied behavior within G-Force that when faced with another monster they couldn't overcome by themselves, some Kaiju would put aside their differences for a short time to take on the greater threat, a trait that the Kaiju shared with the humans. Just before the tentacles could wrap around his neck, Titanosaurus quickly reached down and bit into one of the oncoming limbs, making the giant cuttlefish screech in pain as the larger Kaiju yanked Gezora off his person and flung him away. While Titanosaurus was busy tossing the giant cuttlefish aside, Maguma took this opportunity to swim upward and headbutted Titanosaurus in the stomach, making him stumble backward until he fell to the ocean floor.
While he was on the ground, the aquatic reptile looked up to see Ebirah towering over him with one of his claws raised above him. Before the claw could touch him, Titanosaurus managed to reach out, grab the oncoming claw, and pushed it back, which gave him enough time to jump back to his feet. Once he had done so, Titanosaurus found himself surrounded by three Kaiju, all of whom were united in their effort to kill the larger Kaiju and take his territory for themselves. However, despite being outnumbered, Titanosaurus refused to flee before these lesser monsters, and instead, let out a roar in defiance of his adversaries as a sign that he refused to flee before them.
Gezora was the first to attack, who lunged at his larger foe at full speed with his tentacles stretched outwards to ensnare Titanosaurus. The aquatic reptile quickly reached down and picked up a large boulder, which he used to throw at the giant cuttlefish, striking it dead in the beaked mouth, making him recoil in pain. It was at that moment that Ebirah charged at Titanosaurus with his claws at the ready. Before the giant crustacean could land a hit on the aquatic reptile, Titanosaurus grabbed the rival Kaiju by his claws, leading the two monsters to a stand-off where neither would budge. As the two monsters struggled with one another to gain ground, Maguma swam up behind him and struck him with his tusks, ranking them down his back as he did. Titanosaurus let out a shriek of agony as he felt the tusk cut deep into his flesh.
Titanosaurus' knees buckled from the surprise hit from behind, allowing Ebirah the chance he needed to push him back and force his opponent to the ground before taking one of his claws and taking hold of Titanosaurus' neck as forced him onto the ground. However, freeing one of the giant aqua lizard's hands so it could try to put a quick end to the fight proved to be a mistake. For the moment his arm was free, Titanosaurus punched the giant shrimp in the eye, making him screech in pain as he loosed his clawed hold on him. This gave Titanosaurus the time he needed to get back to his feet and swim upwards to get some space so he could better combat the trio of monsters. With a now irate Ebirah leading the charge, the three fellow aquatic Kaiju gave chase after their foe.
Now with more space to better maneuver, Titanosaurus kicked Maguma in the face, knocking him back as Ebirah shot up to the larger Kaiju in an attempt to tackle his foe, only to be swiped across the face by the finned tail of the aquatic reptile, forcing the giant shrimp back. Gezora had tried to strike Titanosaurus again from behind, only for his larger foe to spin around and take hold of Gezora's tentacles before they could take hold of him. With the giant cuttlefish in hand, Titanosaurus flung Gezora at Maguma, who was currently swimming back up to face the aquatic dinosaur. Angered by his ally's seeming betrayal, the giant walrus began to fight with Gezora, who, in turn, defended himself in response.
With his two allies now at one another's throats, Ebirah found himself alone against a now very irate Titanosaurus, who was now swimming toward him with a speed that the giant shrimp couldn't fully register before being tackled. Now with Ebirah in his grasp, Titanosaurus began to bite and slash at fellow aquatic Kaiju, even managing to bite off one of Ebirah's antennas, making the crustacean cry out in pain. Though it could be regrown, the pain was all the same. As Ebirah reeled in agony, Titanosaurus grabbed his opponent by the claw and, with all his strength, flung the giant shrimp at Maguma and Gezora, who were still fighting among themselves.
Now fully broken and disorganized, it was becoming quite clear that, despite their numbers, they were still no match for Titanosaurus. To prove that he was unwavering against the trio, the sea-going reptile roared at the trio to let them know that he was still ready to fight them. Seeing that this was a battle they would lose, the trio of Kaiju split up and fled in different directions, permanently ending their short-term alliance. With his enemies driven before him, Titanosaurus let out another roar, only this was one of victory, once again securing his place in the sea. With the battle over, Titanosaurus swam back down to Sea Base-38, where he moved close to the window so that the humans could see him up close.
With little fear of the titan of the sea, Dr. Hooper came up to the mirror so that he could look right into the Kaiju's deep yellow eyes. These massive eyes, which were long filled with rage, were now soft as they looked upon the only human who had ever shown him true kindness. It was then that the scientist then reached out and put his hand on the glass where Titanosaurus' snout was. The Kaiju made a low, rumbling growl to the human before him before turning away and swimming back into the darkness of the sea. Once the moment was over, Matt looked back at the others, who were still in awe at what they had just witnessed.
"Deputy Director, I want to apologize for everything that's happened here today," he began. "I will take full responsibility for-"
"I will tell Director Yashiro that your device needs further testing," Miki cut him off. "And I will ignore what has happened here today and file it as a 'failed test.'"
"Thank you, ma'am," Matt answered gratefully.
"But I warn you, Dr. Hooper," the G-Force second in command furthered in a tone as strong as steel. "If these issues with the Orca are not fixed, then I terminate both this project and your membership with G-Force. Is that clear?"
"Understood, Deputy Director," he acknowledged with a bow, now fully knowing the stakes of his work.
It had been three hours since Deputy Director Saegusa and Owen had left, and Matt was currently in his private office, pouring himself a bottle of brandy for himself, only this was not a glass for a job well done, but one of solace. Today, he had been humbled by his own hubris, like John Hammond before him, and was now no doubt going to be a bit of a pariah among the higher-ups at G-Force for the time being. He never wanted to endanger anyone and still believed that the Orca was still the best course of action in the ongoing war with the Kaiju. But, for now, at least, it was back to the drawing board. Sarah had managed to keep the data they had gotten from the test before the battle had broken out. So first thing tomorrow, it would be back to square one. Only this time, they now had a chance to expand their work onto more Kaiju than just Titanosaurus.
"Show me the way to go home..." he sang to himself in his empty office. "I'm tired, and I wanna go to bed..."
