A young Zoe walked into Samo's hut, the sage looking into a book.
"Samos?" She asked, getting his attention.
"Ah, young Zoe. What can I do for you? You haven't been in the forest have you?"
"No no. I was just wanted to know when my dad is coming back."
"Not for a while. He's still on that important mission."
"But He's been gone for 4 years. Did he forget about me?"
"No. You are forever in his heart."
"Then can I go see him? I'm sure a warp gate can-"
"No, Zoe! You are forbidden from leaving this village." He slammed his staff into the floor, tears welling in her eyes as she ran off, Jak running after her. They stopped at the beach, Zoe sitting on the sand. Jak sat beside her, patting her shoulder gently. She flung herself at him, sobbing into his chest. He was silent as always but comforting her the entire time.
"We beat your stadium challenge." Jak announced to the girl behind the curtain. I took my place on the table, Jak and daxter crossing their arms proud of themselves. I rolled my eyes.
"great. People do get lucky. Listen, don't you have someone to collect money from, or bear up or something?" she asked a but sarcastically. I snickered but stopped when jak gave me a look. I put up my hands in defeat but didn't stop grinning.
"You don't like us, do you?" Jak asked her, Looking at Dax.
"You work for that slime ball Krew. What's not to like?"
She had a point. I never worked with the guy, I refused to. Jak decided to change the subject, which I encouraged.
"Looks like you won a few races." He mentioned towards the trophies next to the curtain, "isn't it true that the champion gets a tour of the palace?" Oh so that's what he was getting at. I mean, that was my angle too. But jak may have a shot.
"Yeeaahh Why?"
"Could you get me into the palace? Er.. us?" he asked, I kicking him in the leg to remind him that we were together in this.
" A friendly visit I gather?" She asked.
"Yeah. We're real fans of the baron."
"Okay. I'll help y'all out if you stop bothering me. I saw an old matainace elevator at the base of one of the palace's support towers. That old lift might take you up to the palace if you could find a way to turn on the elevators power." She said, Jak and I grinning at each other.
"We can handle that. Thanks." I smiled. We both heading back to the Underground's hideout. I went to shower, Torn having a mission for Jak. I sighed, letting the water run over me. It was cold, but nothing I wasn't used to. The baron used to douse me with a hose every time I would lose it, it somehow heloung me to revert back to normal. Well… "normal." I looked down at my pale body, scars now healing and the dark lines on my body growing so they covered the majority of my body. The gunshot wound on my arm was mostly healed, a white scar to remind me why I was here… and who I needed to make pay for everything bad that happened ever since I got here.
"yo, Zoe? I brought some fresh clothes for you. The old ones stunk so I got rid of those." I heard tess say, her shadow appearing from behind the curtain. I turned the water off, shaking my head and grabbing the towel off the floor.
"Thanks tess."
"no problem. Oh by the way Daxter asked me to tell you to meet them at the power station. Something about a tower?"
"Right. Again thanks."
"you're welcome dear. Stop by the saloon when you get the chance. I miss your smiling face." She said, leaving me alone. I peaked to make sure I was alone, changing quickly into a black tank top that showed my stomach, and a pair of dark blue shorts. I also put on my combat boots and tied my hair up. I was thinking about going to the saloon, but finding out what the baron was up to was more important. I pushed aside the curtain to the main area, Torn studying a map.
"hey tattooed wonder. Got a sec?" I asked. He groaned, looking up.
"what is it?" he asked, I pointing at the map of haven city.
"I wanna look at the map but you're brooding over it." I said.
"fine. And I don't brood."
"Sure ya don't. You're like a teenager at a poetry reading." I said, walking to him and looking at the map.
"What exactly are you looking for?"
"Turrets." I said, scanning the map.
"Why, if I may ask, are you looking for things that can kill you?"
"Reasons." I shrugged, getting off The table.
"Zoe." He grabbed my wrist, getting my attention.
"What?"
"Don't do anything stupid." He said.
"Oh C'mon Torn, I'm the one that prevents to stupid, not cause it. Speaking of, I gotta help my two idoits break into the palace." I smiled as I walked backwards, turning on my heel and running up the stairs before he could say anything.
"Hey boys." I greeted, walking into the Power station.
"oh speaking of hot women. You clean up nice, Zoe." Daxter said, grinning at me. I shot him a look, Jak nudging him.
"I wanted to thank you guys for saving my butt out there at the strip mine." Vin said, pressing buttons on the giant control panel.
"and we want to thank you for being such a bad shot." Daxter said.
"Ah yes. Sorry about that guys, I'm a bit jumpy these days."
"Jumpy? We hadn't noticed." Daxter said, then screamed out of nowhere, "A metal head behind you!" he pointed behind Vin, who screamed as well.
"what the- where the- who the- what?" he panicked, looking around and gasping and falling on the floor.
"Just kidding. Nice reaction time." Dax said, walking by him. Vin jumped up. I resisting the urge to laugh.
"Not funny! Those metal heads have been attacking our mining operations and we're running out of eco! Eco is what keeps the city shield walls up. And if the shield drops, well we can all kiss our butts goodbye!"
"I've got a few surprises for those metal heads." Jak said, looking at me.
"W-we got to keep the shield walls up until the shadow figures out what to do. My readings show a drop in eco at the drill platform. Probably some metal heads eggs sucking away power. Use the warp gate to go to the platform and destroy every metal head egg you can find!" Vin pointed to the gate, we nodding at each other as Daxter fell down with a thud. I picked him up, and placed him on my shoulder, I jumping through the gate with a dive. Ready to face what was on the other side
