"Jess, I'll be quick and won't interrupt whatever important thing she is doing, I promise." Kara pleads, two seconds away from getting onto her knees to beg.
The assistant just sighs, tyring with all her might to ignore the putting puppy dog of a woman so she can get on with her work. "I have been told that Lena doesn't want to be disturbed as she's working on something extremely important, besides that woman is scary when she's holding a power tool, so I don't want her pissed at me when she's using one."
Kara stands in front of Jess' desk with a joyous gleam across her face. "If she's using her tools then she's in her lab, right?"
"No, no, Kara Danvers, don't you even think about taking yourself down there. I will tackle you where you stand if you move even a single muscle, so help me God." Jess, stands abruptly, one finger held out in warning and her stern voice out, like she is scolding a child.
"But –"
"No buts, you can sit your ass down in the waiting area if you have to while I call her and ask if she has time to see you but that's it. I shouldn't even be doing that."
Kara nods timidly, her shoulders slumped in defeat. "Ok. I'll be over there then." She wanders over to the couple of chairs pressed against a wall a few feet away from Jess' desk and slouches into one of them, a frown overtaking her features in a way that makes Jess have to bite her lips to stop herself from laughing.
Instead of shredding her lips to pieces she works on getting into contact with Lena and calls down to Lena's private lab in the sub levels of the building to ask her what she would like her to do about her pouty guest that just won't leave.
"Ms Luthor, it's Jess." Kara's ears perk up at the words and she begins to rise from her seat, something that Jess notices so she points back down at the chair with a sharp gesture, causing Kara to shrink back into herself and do as she's told.
Kara can't hear Lena's side of the conversation from here and is scared to use her super hearing because Jess has her scary face on and she's the only person in National City that she's sure could actually take her out without the use of Kryptonite.
"Everything is fine, I just have one little problem in the shape of a golden retriever look-alike that is refusing to leave until she sees you and she has a pout on her face that is somehow melting my heart of ice."
Kara's frown does lift slightly when she hears that she is having a positive effect on Jess, she thought for sure that Lena's assistant hates her, now she knows that isn't completely true.
"She's asking to come and see you. Should I send her down to you or ask her to come back another time?"
Jess rolls her eyes when she looks up to see Kara on the edge of her seat, shifting forward and ready to leap up as soon as Jess gets her answer.
"You better make a decision fast, she's about ten seconds away from barrelling down to you and while I can try my best to stop her, I don't want to break any of my nails because I only got them done the other day."
Kara peers over to Jess wide eyed as she clunks her phone back down onto the holder. "I'm guessing you want to know what she said."
With a dumb nod, Kara pushes herself to her feet, stumbling over to Jess' desk. When she stands, Jess flicks through her notes, purposely delaying her answer just to mess with Kara for making her disrupt Lena's schedule.
"She said you can go down there but to walk slow so she has chance to tidy up…" Jess looks up from her faux note flicking only to stare into an empty waiting room, the blonde nowhere to be seen. "…and she's gone."
Lena hears the elevator heading down to her much quicker than she would have liked and was hoping that she would have time to hide all of her bits and pieces before Kara got down here, but she should have known better than to expect Kara to listen to a request to come down here slowly, that woman does everything with an air of impatience.
The door dings open with most of her tools and major parts of her project littered about the room, the bigger pieces having large sheets covering them, Lena's lame attempt at hiding them from Kara.
"Lena!" Kara steps out of the elevator with her arms outstretched and a cheesy grin across her face.
Lena can't help but smile back at her, letting herself be pulled into the world's tightest hug. "Hey, you. I've heard that you've been terrorizing my assistant."
Kara puts on an obviously fake confused look. "Assistant? I didn't know you had an assistant. I only saw a jailor and a damn scary one at that."
"I'm going to tell her you said that." Lena smirks.
The mocking look falls from Kara's face, one of genuine fear taking its place, her eyebrows knitting together. "Please don't, she's scary."
Lena can't help but laugh outwardly at that. "No promises, but hey, let's go out for lunch."
Kara holds up a finger, signalling Lena to wait while she pulls her bag from her shoulder. "No need, look at this."
The bag is held open for her to see inside and Lena takes in the sight of many takeout Chinese containers stuffed in there. "You brought food with you?"
"Sure did, where shall we sit?" Kara takes a look around the room for the first time and when she gets a better look at some of the pieces of machinery around the room it all sinks in and she knows exactly what she's looking at. "Oh, Rao."
Lena panics and rushes to Kara, attempting to pull her attention away from what she's been working on. "Kara I –"
"Stop." Kara's voice is full of tears, her cheeks turning pink as she fights back her emotions. "Is this what I think it is?"
Lena can't deny it. "I was going to hide it so I could surprise you with it, but you got down here quicker than I thought you would, it was going to be a surprise."
"You really have my pod?" Kara moves towards one of the benches, running her fingers across a familiar looking Kryptonian machine part.
Lena nods, settling beside Kara. "Well, brainy and I were working on The Legion ship and when we needed some good fuses he went and took them from your pod, which they were keeping in one of the cargo holds. Apparently The Legion have been stripping it for parts for quite a long time and it took me a painfully long time to get Brainy to admit that it was wrong of them to do that without asking you or offering your pod back to you."
"Let me guess, he used the excuse of trying to say that when I sent Mon-El away I essentially gifted it to him, so he now owns it?" Kara just looks tired as she says it.
Lena nods, uncovering some more of the parts that are closest to her. "How'd you guess."
"I asked for my pod back a couple of years ago and just got some spiel about how it no longer belongs to me and that I legally have no right to it."
Rage pours across Lena's face and down her body. "Who the fuck said that to you.?"
"Don't. There are some battles that just aren't worth it." Kara takes Lena's hands, pulling her towards her and then moving to run them up and down Lena's arms soothingly. "I honestly had no clue that it was still here, I thought they took it back to the future with them. I had just resigned myself to never seeing it again."
"That's not right."
Kara shakes her head. "It's not, but there are some battles that even Supergirl is too tired to fight, although I am immensely grateful to see her again."
"Her?"
Kara smiles, heading across the room to where she can see the shape of the main body hiding beneath a sheet. "Yeah, her. She kept me alive and safe for twenty four years after getting caught in the aftershocks of an exploding planet and then being hurled into the worst place in the galaxy. Even after that she still got me to Earth. The landing had much to be desired, but the old girl got me here."
"Well in that case, I'm very glad that I can now give her back to you." Lena stands by her side, gazing up at the little pod and thanking it for keeping her favourite person safe for so long. "As soon as I have her fixed up that is."
"You're fixing her too?" Kara's eyebrows shoot up.
Lena smiles, grabbing a wrench from her work bench and holding it up like a sword. "Doctor Kieran, here to heal all mechanical issues."
It earns her a laugh but Kara steps forward and takes the wrench from her. "You can do your healing after lunch, I'm starving."
"Of course, you are." Lena hits her with a soft look, herding her over to an empty table and pulling a couple of stools over.
They dig right into the food, Kara heating it up with her heat visions since it had gone cold from sitting in the bag for so long. They eat mostly un silence, but Lena is dying to know what Kara is thinking because she keeps peering around the room at all the scattered parts.
"What are you thinking."
Kara looks like she wants to answer but doesn't quite know how to. It takes her a little while to find the words. "I'm just so happy that she's mine again. I have never really had her since I got to Earth."
"What do you mean?" Lena questions her, still shovelling rice into her mouth while trying not to fangirl over her best friend because Supergirl just warmed up her lunch with her superpowers.
"Well, when I first got here, the DEO took it and then claimed that it was their property and so I wasn't allowed to take it until Alex became director and released it to me but even then I kept it at the DEO because I had nowhere to keep it and then I had to use it to get Mon-El off the planet so I didn't get a whole lot of time with her before I had to say goodbye again."
Lena takes her hand from across the table, silently showing her that she's here for her.
"Don't tell anyone but I was probably just as upset about losing her than I was about losing Mon-El – maybe even more so."
In response, Lena holds up three fingers. "Scouts honour."
Kara snorts at that. "Like you were a scout."
"Of course I wasn't, I wasn't completely lame growing up."
"Says the bookworm." Kara retorts.
Lena has no argument for that, so she relents and steers the conversation back to the pod. "I have a few storage spaces in the city and a few across the country, you're welcome to pick one and keep the pod there when she's all fixed up. I even have space in this building if you want to keep her here."
Kara looks up at her mid chew as she polishes off the last of her food. "You wouldn't mind?"
"I wouldn't have offered if I didn't mind, you know that."
"How did I get so lucky as to have you in my life?" Kara asks, shuffling around the table so she can pull Lena into a massive hug. "You have to let me pay you back somehow."
Lena shakes her head vehemently against Kara's shoulder. "No way."
"At least let me cook you dinner or something." Kara begs, not letting Lena go.
"I don't appreciate threats." It falls from Lena's mouth before she can stop it, her brain on sassy mode.
Kara does pull back at that, a hand on her chest in mock heartbreak. "Ouch. It may be true, but you aren't meant to say that." She drops that act pretty quickly. "Let me take you out then, somewhere nice, maybe that new fancy place across town?"
"Are you trying to wine and dine me?" Lena raises her eyebrow in a playful manner but can't stop her hear beating rapidly in her chest, hope drowning her from the inside out.
"Well, it is one hell of a gesture to rebuild an entire pod for someone, I feel as though I should reciprocate." Kara's gaze is drawn to Lena's lips, her brain working at a million miles per hour, trying to figure out if this really happening or just a dream.
"If I knew I would get a date out of rebuilding your pod for you, I would have looked into it a long time ago."
Their lips are so close now that they can feel each other's breath. "You didn't know it was there a long time ago."
"Shut up."
With that Lena pulls her into their first kiss, content to briefly push her schedule back, she's due a decent break anyway and she has someone special to enjoy it with.
