CHAPTER ONE

Unaligned World of Saints Row

Aboard Zin Imperial Flagship Ka-Mahshuv

Emperor's Quarters

He had been known as "The Boss," "Playa," the President of the United States of America and was now known as the Emperor of the Zin Empire. But in that one moment, J.M. Larkin hoped to be called something else.

J.M. had kneeled in front of girlfriend Kenzie Kensington, holding a small purple case decorated with the fleur-de-lis symbol of the Third Street Saints. Opening it, J.M. revealed a small gold and diamond ring.

"Kinzie Kensington, from the day we first met during the events surrounding Johnny's apparent death, we have been growing close together," J.M. began. "Then, when we fought Zinyak—and when Satan kidnapped me—our fighting to rescue each other made me realize that you put something in me that had never been there before."

Tears began to fall from Kenzie's face. "Kenzie, will you marry me?" J.M. asked.

"Yes," Kenzie said. "Yes, I will!"

J.M. smiled as he put the ring on Kenzie's finger. But before they could kiss to seal the engagement, there was a knock on the door. "Your Majesty, it's Zinjai. We are approaching the planet your scoutship discovered," the voice said.

"I'm on my way, Zinjai," J.M. said. Then, he and Kenzie smiled and kissed to seal their engagement.

In the command center of their scoutship, J.M. and Kenzie were met by J.M.'s best friend and second-in-command, Ji-hoon "Johnny" Gat.

"Did Zinjai tell you?" Johnny said.

"At the worst possible time," Kenzie said, holding up her hand.

Johnny whistled when he saw the ring on Kenzie's finger. "Congratulations, you two, but we need to get down to business," Johnny said as he got in one pilot's seat and J.M. did with the other.

"What do you mean?" J.M. said as he began to secure himself with his restraints.

"An unknown vessel is orbiting the planet," Pierce Washington said, checking his displays. "Intent is unknown."

"Course set," Shaundi said from her panel.

"Ka-Mahshuv Docking Control, this is the Zayn, requesting departure clearance," J.M. said.

"Permission granted, Zayn," the docking controller said. "Have a safe flight, Your Majesty."

"Thank you, Ka-Mahshuv Control," J.M. said. "Zayn, out."

There was a slight rumble as the Zayn detached from the Ka-Mahshuv's docking clamps and activated its own engines. J.M. then tapped the hyperlight control.

A few hours later, the Zayn came out of hyperlight and saw the ship orbiting the planet that was to be the new human homeworld.

On his display, Johnny zoomed in on the name "Tempest" that was engraved on the ship's hull.

"Hail the ship," J.M. said to Shaundi.

Shaundi nodded, then tapped a control. "Channel open, Boss," Shaundi said.

"Unknown vessel, this is the Zin Empire-registered scoutship Zayn, Captain Ji-hoon Gat commanding," Johnny said. "What is your business on this planet, which has been claimed for the Zin Empire?"

"Captain Gat, this is the Scarlett Army scoutship Tempest, Captain William Ryder commanding," the voice on the other end of the channel said. "We were unaware of the Zin Empire's claim to this planet. We merely stopped here for rest, repair and resupply purposes."

"If you wish, we can escort you back to the Zin Imperial fleet, where we can possibly help you get back on your feet," Johnny said after getting the all-clear from J.M.

"Much obliged, Captain Gat," the voice said.

"Then stand by to be taken into tow with our tractor beams," Johnny said.

"Understood," the voice said. "Tempest, out."

J.M. turned his attention to the command and control center, just off the Bridge. There, Kenzie, Keith David, Benjamin King, Matt Miller, Asha Odekar and C.I.D. were working. "Kenzie, lock tractor beams on the Tempest," J.M. said. "Keith, keep an eye on her."

"Got ya," Keith said.

J.M. then turned his attention back to the viewport, which showed the Zayn's tractor beam latched onto the Tempest.

"Tractor beam stable and locked onto the Tempest, Playa," King said. "We're clear to return to the Ka-Mahshuv on your word."

"Go ahead, Johnny," J.M. said.

On the Bridge of the Tempest, William and Ryder watched as the Zayn's tractor beam locked on. "Zin tractor beam has locked on and is stable, Pathfinder," Suvi said.

William and Ryder then watched as the Zayn...and the Tempest with her...accelerated into hyper-light drive.
