I hadn't intended on waiting so long to update, originally I was only meant to be up with family for a little over two weeks. But I got stuck up there for even longer due to having to isolate, and only got back a few days ago and things have been chaotic since I got back, to say the least., so this is the first chance I've had to update.

I hope you like it!

Chapter 16: Rewriting History

"Wow! Look at that!" Steel's exclamations were loud as he walked through the park, distracted by everything and everyone as he went. Nate was smiling, explaining patiently to his brother if there was anything he didn't know, and Ryne was laughing.

After being given the morning off from any kind of training, the Rangers had decided to meet up at the park and enjoy the sunny weather. Ryne had bumped into Nate and Steel as she arrived, and was now rolling alongside them on her skateboard, chatting to Nate.

"Hey guys!" Zoey called as she spotted them, waving with a bright smile. "Good morning," she said once she caught up to the three.

"Good morning," Nate smiled back.

"It's such a great day, I'm glad the Commander gave us the morning off," Zoey said, raising her head to the sky to admire the cloudless blue above.

"Will Evox and Vargoyle be as nice?" Ryne wondered, earning an tired look from the Yellow Ranger. Ryne didn't look at her, but her smile told them that she was aware of Zoey's reaction.

"Hey guys!" they met up with Devon and Ravi, who were both just excited about the morning off. They'd all been working hard, especially since Vargoyle had shown up, and time off was just what they needed. "Where's Steel?" Devon asked, and they turned to see that the Silver Ranger had vanished.

"Oh no," Nate groaned.

"Wonder what he's getting excited over now," Ryne couldn't help but laugh as they retracted their steps, searching for the half-human, half-robot.

"Animals are truly amazing!" Steel was exclaiming as he watched a woman walking by with a cockatoo on her arm.

"There you are!" Nate was relieved to see Steel was okay. "We've been looking all over for you," Nate pulled him away down the path as the others caught up. "What's so fascinating?" he asked as Steel started walking with them.

"I was wondering, is having a pet a common thing for humans?" Steel asked.

"Totally," Zoey nodded. "They're great companions. I used to have a pet hamster called Luna," she smiled as she remembered her pet.

"Mum gave me a turtle named Napoleon when I was six," Ravi thought about his own pet that he had when young. "We used to swim in the bathtub together," he grinned, making them laugh.

"We have a cat named Sabi, sleeps on my legs every night," Devon added.

"I never had a pet, but my cousins, Kai and Niall, have the sweetest dog, Eclair," Ryne smiled as she thought about the brown lab. "Oh…and they did try sneaking in an Amphiptere. We could hear Aunt Olivia's yells through all of Briarwood," she laughed.

"A what?" Zoey blinked.

"That's some kinda winged snake, I was playing a video game with them in it last week," Devon looked alarmed, recognising the name of the creature. Ryne nodded.

"Yeah, they found it in the Magical Realm. Needless to say…they didn't get to keep it," she said, making them laugh.

"Then that's it," Steel walked ahead of them, sounding determined. "It's time I really explore my human side," he decided, turning around to face the rest of the team as they slowed to a stop. "I'm getting a pet," Steel announced. Immediately Zoey giggled.

"You…are gonna look after a pet?" she asked, sceptical.

"Sure, why not?" Steel asked, not understanding her response.

"Caring for an animal is a big responsibility," Ravi explained more gently.

"You're an…" Devon trailed off to look around quickly, making sure that nobody was within earshot. "Awesome Ranger," he continued in a quieter voice. "But not exactly pet-owner material," he said.

"Pets need a lot of care, Steel," Ryne spoke up next. "We have a lot of duties that can pull us away with no notice," she pointed out, a hand on her wristcom.

"Give me some credit!" Steel exclaimed, offended by their words. "I can totally take care of a pet on my own," he insisted confidently. "I have animal DNA in me, I'll be a natural," Steel insisted, which made them laugh.

"Tell you what, bro," Nate walked forwards to soothe his brother. "If you can take care of a potted plant for a whole week, I'll take you pet shopping," he promised. Steel gave a victorious laugh.

"Piece of cake," he said loudly. "But uh…where do I get a plant?" the Silver Ranger whispered to his brother, and the others laughed as they heard him anyway.

"Come on, I know a place nearby," Ryne offered with a giggle.

"Great! You won't regret this," Steel told her happily.

"No, but the plant might," Zoey laughed.

"I'll come too," Devon volunteered. "My mum's birthday is coming up, I should get her something nice," he said, and Ravi, Nate and Zoey watched the three heading off, wondering just how well Steel would do.

"Ol' Scrozzle's done it again!" Scrozzle's proud exclamations could be heard throughout the ruins they were located in, and he danced past the Avatars, carrying the computer in his arms. "The Robotron Maker is now updated to activate the Memory Pulsator," he announced.

"Give me that," Vargoyle snatched it from his arms, and Scrozzle gave a noise of protest as Asher rolled her eyes. She was still angry that Scrozzle had stolen her work and given it to Vargoyle. "We're ready," Vargoyle turned back to Evox, ignoring Scrozzle.

"Your plan had better work," Evox warned, impatient to be freed from the Cyber Dimension.

"Oh, trust me, it will," Vargoyle smirked. "The Memory Pulsator is already in position, thanks to the Robotron diversion that I set up. Welcome to Phase Two of my master plan," he set the computer down and opened it, slamming a finger down on the button. Vargoyle then laughed loudly again. "I've hacked into the network signal that broadcasts to the entire city. At this very moment, the Memory Pulsator is stopping everyone in their tracks, including all those pests at Grid Battleforce," Vargoyle explained as the computer whirred with power. "With the press of a button, no-one in Coral Harbour will remember you or your attacks!" he explained.

"And how exactly will that help?" Evox asked. So far he wasn't entirely impressed by Vargoyle's machine.

"Because, I'm gonna replace their memories. Right now, Grid Battleforce remembers Blaze, Roxy and Asher becoming evil Avatars. But that is about to change. Now, my Memory Pulsator is beaming a new memory directly into the minds of everyone in Grid Battleforce. Soon, they will believe a very different sequence of events," Vargoyle explained as the three Avatars smirked, knowing what the plan was. After all, they'd come up with it. "Instead of the three turning into evil Avatars, they will be tricked into thinking Blaze, Roxy and Asher have become heroes. They'll all go about their days with no idea that their memories are false," Vargoyle laughed, and the three Avatars looked at each other. Even Asher was smirking, her anger making way for excitement.

"This is going to be interesting," she laughed.

Steel sighed happily, admiring the plant in his hands. He'd settled on a white lily, which had bloomed and sat pretty on display.

"You're so adorable," he told the plant, spraying it with the water bottle he'd been given to help maintain it. "All green and leafy. I really want a puppy named Spot, so I think I'll name you Spot," Steel decided. "What do you think, Ryne?" he asked as she admired it too.

"It's really pretty," she smiled. "It's the perfect plant to prove to Nate you can have a pet," she told him.

"I thought so too!" Steel exclaimed, happy with her words. "Devon, what do you think?" he asked, but didn't get a response. "Devon?" he stopped when he saw that Devon had frozen, looking off into the distance. "What's wrong with you? And what's this weird energy?" he wondered as he saw energy gathered around Devon's head.

"That's not normal," Ryne wondered, staring at the energy that was swirling around Devon's head, all while he continued to stare out, almost like a statue.

Suddenly the energy vanishing, and she jumped, as did Steel, when Devon gave a startled cry.

"Whoa! A robot?" he gasped, staring at Steel like he'd never seen him before. "Where did you come from?" Devon asked, looking around for any sign of his handler.

"It's me, Steel! Nate's brother?" Steel tried when he was met with a blank stare.

"Devon, are you okay?" Ryne asked, and Devon turned his stare on her.

"Who are you? And why do you know my name?" he asked, taking Ryne by surprise.

"It's us! The mighty Silver and Pink Rangers?" Steel tried, and Devon barked a laugh.

"Hah! Good one," he said, losing his smile and walking away, deciding he wanted nothing to do with the robot or the girl with it.

"That energy, it did something to you," Steel considered as they followed. "You know you're the Red Ranger, right?" he pressed as Devon turned to him, frowning.

"I'm what?" Devon stared at him, baffled by the robot as if he was speaking another language. "Leave me alone, okay?" he turned away, walking faster as both Steel and Ryne were confused by his response.

"Huh? Is it me, or is there something wrong with his memory?" Steel asked, both to Ryne, and to the plant in his hand. He sprayed the lily again.

"We need to keep an eye on him, find out what's going on," Ryne suggested, worried about their Red Ranger. Steel nodded, and the two followed Devon away.

Back in the Cyber Dimension, Vargoyle was still laughing victoriously as his plan took effect. "As long as the Pulsator waves are working, no-one will suspect that anything has ever been different!" he exclaimed. "Now, buckle up for Phase Three!" his laughter grew louder, echoing through the Cyber Dimension.

"Stop following me!" Devon groaned as he turned and saw Steel and Ryne following him down the street.

"But we're friends!" Steel exclaimed, but Devon ignored him.

"I have an idea," Ryne grinned as an idea came to mind. "Hey Devon! Wanna try Grid Battleforce's battle sim?" she offered, and Devon stopped in his tracks.

"Wait, you can get me into their simulator?" he whirled around, suddenly a lot more open to talking to the two.

"Sure thing," Ryne nodded. "Just follow us," she turned and led the way away, and Devon laughed in disbelief.

"I can't believe that worked," Steel muttered to Ryne, who smiled.

"The whole reason he became the Red Ranger was because he snuck into Grid Battleforce to try the battle sim," she explained in a quiet voice back. "Let's hope we can figure out what's going on," Ryne then said, still not understanding just what had happened to Devon.

Devon stared up at the large building that was Grid Battleforce, his eyes shining with excitement as he stopped to take it in.

"Wow, this place is pretty epic," he admitted. However, as he started walking forwards, Ryne stopped, her eyes widening in alarm as she spotted three familiar figures approaching the building with confident looks.

"Wait!" she grabbed Devon, stopping him in his tracks. "Steel, look!" Ryne pointed over, and the Silver Ranger gasped.

"That's Blaze, Roxy and Asher!" he realised. "They're heading inside! Quick, we've gotta take cover," Steel quickly pushed Devon behind the van near them, cradling his plant close to his chest.

"What exactly are we hiding from?" Devon asked, doing what Steel said. He peered out, not understanding why they'd reacted in such a way to the three. "I've seen those guys the gym. But who are the others?" Devon asked, recognising them.

"That's the rest of our team," Steel answered, confused as he saw Nate, Zoey and Lewis standing outside.

"But why are they talking to them like they're friends?" Ryne asked, just as confused as they watched Nate, Zoey and Lewis talking to the three Avatars, before Ravi came out to meet them. "They were there too, like us, when Evox turned Asher, Blaze and Roxy evil," she explained to Devon as he peered out, staring at them.

"We've fought them dozens of times!" Steel exclaimed, and Devon laughed.

"Yeah right. Cool story, bro," he scoffed. "Like you said, why are they acting like friends, if that's true?" he asked.

"This is a mystery to me too. First you don't remember being a Ranger, and now this?" Steel groaned.

"Wait, what if whatever is affecting Devon, is affecting them too?" Ryne gasped as the thought sprang to mind. Horror washed over the Pink Ranger. "That's it. He's messed with their memories!" she exclaimed.

"Then…how come you remember stuff?" Devon challenged, looking at the two. Neither seemed particularly special. Ryne frowned.

"Well, Steel is one of a kind," she considered, looking up at the much taller robot.

"The bad guys always forget that I'm half-human, half-robot," he nodded in agreement.

"Don't ask," Ryne stopped Devon before he could try and understand what Steel was talking about. "But his robotic side could be why it didn't affect him," she considered, looking deep in thought.

"What about you? Are you some kinda robot?" Devon asked, suddenly wary of the petite girl with them. She laughed.

"Some people have asked that about me, but no, I'm not," Ryne shook her head. "But I am only about a quarter human. Whatever they're using to mess with people's memories, either it doesn't affect magical beings, or aliens?" she considered.

"And you said that he's one of a kind," Devon said, deadpan. Ryne went red.

"I'm an…unusual case," she allowed.

"Hey!" they looked up at Betty's shout, and saw her and Ben pull up in a cart. "You three are trespassing!" she exclaimed as she jumped out, glaring at them.

"Ben and Betty must be affected too!" Steel realised.

"Those are Grid Battleforce communicators!" Ben exclaimed, seeing the wristcoms the three were wearing.

"Uh oh," Ryne gulped, putting a hand over hers.

"Who'd you steal those from? Hand 'em over," Betty ordered as she stormed towards them. Devon lifted his wrist, finally realising that he wasn't wearing his watch.

"Where did this come from?" he asked.

"Commander Shaw-"

"Sure," before Ryne could explain, Devon pulled it from his wrist and walked over to hand it over.

"Devon!" Ryne gasped in horror. Devon hadn't realised that he'd just made himself very vulnerable.

"Wait!" Steel protested as well, but Ben took it from Devon before they could stop him.

"Yours too," Betty held out her hand expectantly.

"Sorry guys, but this is mine," Steel told them simply. Ryne nodded, backing away.

"Then you leave us no choice," Betty decided.

"Grab him," Ben decided, and Betty launched herself at Steel, taking the Silver Ranger by surprise.

"Hey!" Ryne exclaimed as Steel struggled against Betty, all while trying not to drop Spot. "Let him go!" she tried to stop Betty, only for Ben to grab her arm. "Sorry Ben, no hard feelings," Ryne said, and the young man squealed as he was suddenly flipped, the world spinning before he landed on his back with a loud 'oof'.

"Be careful! Spot's fragile!" Steel protested as he was dragged along. "Detach arm!" he shouted, and Betty shrieked as his lower arm suddenly detached, causing her to fall backwards from the force. As Ben groaned, Betty cried out in fear of the thrashing arm she held.

"We need to get out of here!" Ryne exclaimed, grabbing Devon's arm. He was too stunned to argue, letting her pull him along as Steel followed, getting away from the siblings. She led them around the back of Grid Battleforce, off to a quiet, secluded part. "Okay, I think we're safe for now," Ryne breathed a sigh of relief, leaning against the wall.

"Ah, there you are," Steel turned as his arm appeared from around the corner, running along on his fingers. "Detachable limbs sure are handy," he said, lifting it to reattach. When he did, he groaned, realising that his wristcom was also gone. "But now they've got both our wristcoms," he grumbled. Ryne put a hand on hers, worried.

"You need them to access your Morphers," she said as Steel took Spot back from Devon.

"What's a Morpher?" Devon asked, suddenly tired. All he'd wanted was to try the Battle Sim. Now he was getting dragged along by what felt like the world's craziest pair.

"It's what allows us to Morph into Power Rangers," Ryne exclaimed, before they heard a low rumble.

"No!" Steel groaned as they saw Vargoyle appear in a flash of light.

"Ah, we meet again!" he exclaimed.

"Jeez, who is that?!" Devon gasped, staring at the being. Even without his memories, he could tell that Vargoyle was dangerous.

"That's Vargoyle. He's not good news," Ryne gulped.

"So, you remember me, huh?" Vargoyle asked, allowing himself to show a fraction of surprise. "Then Scrozzle's Memory Pulse didn't work on everyone after all," he considered. "I should rip that Pulsator off the broadcast tower and make him eat it!" Vargoyle declared.

"So there's a machine that's messing with everyone's memories. And it's on the broadcast tower?" Ryne summed up, tilting her head.

"There's one over the TV station," Devon remembered.

"That's perfectly positioned to send a signal over the whole city!" Steel realised.

"Look at you, Bolt-Head, getting all clever," Vargoyle mocked. "Too bad you won't be able to tell anyone!" he shouted, running at them.

"You two get back!" Ryne shouted, letting energy charge in her hand. Devon's eyes went wide as he saw it. The blue lights sparked from Ryne's hand, and she threw it out, letting it arc out through the air and slam into Vargoyle. He staggered back, thrown off balance by the attack.

"Whoa," Devon breathed as the hairs on the back of his neck stood on end.

"Come on, you know that's not going to do anything against me," he laughed, running at her. Ryne ducked under his swing, turning him around and trying to lead him away from Steel and Devon.

"Ryne, no!" Steel shoved his plant into Devon's hands and followed as Ryne led Vargoyle away, occasionally hitting him with small blasts of energy.

"What's the matter, Pink Ranger? Your friends can't Morph?" he taunted, swinging his sword at her. Ryne dodged again, trying to find an opening that would let her call on her Morpher. Vargoyle then grunted, slammed against the side of the building as Steel collided with him.

"Steel! You need to get back! Without your wristcom-ah!" Ryne screamed in pain as Vargoyle's sword caught her arm, ripping through her shirt and causing blood to start trickling down her arm.

"Hey! Leave my new friends alone!" Devon shouted suddenly, slamming a metal pipe against the back of Vargoyle's head. The monster grunted, forced to release Steel from where he had him pinned against the wall as he staggered away. "Here," he handed Spot back.

"Nice save, thanks," Steel said, relieved.

"Don't worry, I got your back," Devon told them as he raised the pipe like a sword. He ran in to fight off Vargoyle, and Ryne raised her arm, ignoring the pain.

"Transport Morpher!" she shouted. To her relief the Morpher appeared in a flash. "ACTIVATE BEAST POWER, HA!" Ryne Morphed into her Pink suit and ran at Vargoyle as he shoved Devon backwards. The Red Ranger dropped the pipe, falling to the ground as the makeshift weapon clattered noisily by Vargoyle's feet. "Back off!" Ryne shouted, landing a punch that shoved Vargoyle away from Devon.

"No way…" Devon breathed in awe as he stared up at Ryne. "She is a Power Ranger," he said, wondering just how much of what the two had said was true.

"Back off, Vargoyle," Ryne warned as she raised her fists in a fighting stance.

"Or you'll do what?" Vargoyle asked, amused by her threatening tone. Ryne's eyes narrowed.

"Or I'll do this," she muttered as a pink aura started to surround her like a hazy fog. Steel and Devon stared in surprise. "Call to the beast inside! Free the Fox!" there was a barking sound, and a Fox spirit materialised above Ryne, leaping at Vargoyle.

"What?!" he gasped, knocked backwards as the Fox rammed him, biting at him. Ryne then ran in too, delivering a powerful punch that made Vargoyle groan. He lashed out, but Ryne let her Squirrel Beast Power kick in, allowing her to dodge his attacks, and as he did, the Fox spirit bit down on his arm. Vargoyle cursed as he was yanked off his feet and tossed several feet away. "Enough!" he roared, grabbing his blaster and firing a shot that cut through the Fox spirit. It vanished with a yip, and Ryne was thrown backwards.

Steel gave a shout as he ran at Vargoyle again, only to be knocked away again as well by the far more powerful enemy. He gasped as he almost fell on his plant, and grabbed it to hold carefully. Vargoyle hummed as he noticed the action.

"Hey, what's with the plant?" he asked, suspicious, and suddenly raced over to Steel with the super-speed he'd stolen. Steel gasped, and Vargoyle knocked Spot high up into the air.

"Spot! No!" Steel yelled in horror as the lily fell back towards the ground. There was another gust of wind suddenly, as Devon used his own super-speed to knock Vargoyle aside and catch the potted plant. "Whoa! Great catch!" Steel exclaimed, but Devon was too stunned to register the praise.

"How did I do that?" he asked, looking baffled.

"It's from the Cheetah DNA in you," Ryne explained as she limped over, still Morphed but aching from the beating she'd taken. "You have super-speed," she told him.

"I do?" Devon breathed, but couldn't deny it. He'd run so fast that everything seemed to have been in slow motion for him a moment ago. "Then…I am a Power Ranger!" he finally accepted the truth.

"We've been trying to tell you," Steel groaned.

"Let's go. How do I Morph?" he asked, so eager to jump into action that it made Ryne smile.

"You need your Wristcoms back," she explained, and Devon thought about the device that he'd given over to Ben and Betty. He nodded, handing Spot back to Steel.

"Coming right up," he agreed, and the two watched as Devon vanished in a blur of red.

"That's it!" Ryne and Steel turned back to Vargoyle, only for the shot he'd fired to hit the potted plant in Steel's hands.

"No!" Steel wailed in horror as the plant was knocked out of his grasp from the force. Ryne caught it, but it was too late. The last of the leafs were curling up, wilting in the flames that had engulfed it. "Spot…" the heartbreak in Steel's voice hurt Ryne as well. "What has he done to you?" Steel took the remains from Ryne, who turned back to Vargoyle.

"Okay, now I'm mad," she growled, and the blue energy surged through her body and out through her hands. Vargoyle braced himself for a hit, only for the lights to suddenly surround his blaster. Ryne flicked her hand, and he gave a yell as the blaster was yanked free of his grasp. "Let's see how you like it!" she fired a blast from the foreign weapon, and Vargoyle was thrown backwards, slamming against a car.

"You little brat!" Vargoyle snarled, getting to his feet and charging at her. "The two of you need to stay out of my way!" he declared, knocking the blaster from Ryne's hands. He then grabbed her arm and tossed her, throwing Ryne into the grass nearby. He then grabbed Steel, who was still looking at the remains of his plant, and tossed him into the bins. "Pathetic!" Vargoyle scoffed, storming off as Ryne demorphed, groaning as everything hurt.

"Ryne!" Devon ran over to her, returning and finding the fight over. "Are you hurt?" he asked, helping her sit up.

"Well…my pride just took a beating," Ryne grumbled, wincing as he pulled her back to her feet. "Steel?" she called, looking around for him.

"Yep! Just over here!" they looked over in the direction that Steel's voice was echoing oddly, and saw him struggling to climb out of the large metal bin. There was a loud crash that made Ryne and Devon wince as he rolled out, landing on his back on the ground.

"Are you okay?" Devon spoke as he and Ryne hurried over to help Steel up.

"I was lucky…Vargoyle left me for scrap. But poor Spot…" he walked over to the destroyed plant. "He's gone," Steel whimpered, devastated by his loss.

"Sorry about your plant," Devon patted him awkwardly.

"Nate told him that if he could look after Spot for a week, he'd take him to get a real pet," Ryne explained, putting a hand on Steel's arm.

"But not anymore. And I don't deserve one," Steel said bitterly. "I couldn't save Spot or the city," he sighed, angry at himself.

"Hey," Devon smiled at him. "One thing I've heard about Power Rangers, is that they never give up," he told Steel, who looked up at him.

"Devon's right," Ryne nodded, smiling as well. "We can still save the city, and our friends," she encouraged him, and Steel nodded.

"You're both right. We never give up," he agreed with the pair, cheered up a little. "I'll miss you, Spot," Steel told the plant, setting it down on a crate nearby. "Alright. We've gotta get to that TV station and destroy the device that's messing with everyone's memories," he declared, and Devon held out one of the wristcoms he'd stolen back from Ben and Betty. "Thanks," Steel took it, grateful.

"Before that, I think we need to teach Devon a thing or two about being a Ranger," Ryne said, and Devon noded, his eyes lighting up.

"I'm ready. Let's do this," he agreed, and they hurried off to get ready.

Asher struggled to hide her distaste as she walked through Grid Battleforce with Blaze and Roxy. Behind them, Ravi, Zoey, Nate and Lewis followed, looking a little confused, but as chipper as ever. It made her sick.

"And then we're gonna do some uh, special tests," Blaze said as he explained to the others what they wanted them to do.

"Yeah, so if you guys can pack up the spare Mega Transporters, that would be swell," Roxy beamed brightly at them, keeping up a sunny disposition as Ravi could barely take his eyes off her.

"Happy to help," Nate agreed.

"You two don't mind giving a hand, right?" Asher flashed a sickeningly sweet smile at Lewis and Zoey. The latter had been pushing a cart filled with dirty uniforms that she had been taking down to laundry when the three had stopped her.

"Sure, we have time before training," Lewis nodded, pushing his hand from his face.

"Okay," Zoey sounded more eager. "I guess laundry can wait!" she pushed the cart into a corner out of the way. Asher bit her tongue before a snide comment could escape, as she desperately wanted to make fun of the unknowing Yellow Ranger. Blaze seemed to notice, and nudged her discreetly. The five then walked off to start packing up the Mega Transporters, and as soon as they were gone, the three Avatars smirked, dropping their acts.

"Too easy," Asher rolled her eyes, turning and walking into the lab they'd stopped in front of. Blaze glanced around to make sure they weren't being watched, and Roxy walked over to the three pods in the back.

"I'll make this quick," she said, getting to work as Blaze and Asher waited for her to be done. The two exchanged smirks, looking forward to seeing the aftermath.

If Devon wasn't already confused by Ryne before, he certainly was now.

The three had arrived at the TV station, and with Ryne guiding them, they'd snuck past security and up to the roof without trouble. However, Devon decided not to question it, knowing that they didn't have time.

"Up there!" Devon was the first to spot the device attached to the side of the broadcast tower, high up above them.

"That's gotta be Vargoyle's Pulsator," Steel said, seeing the two pieces spinning as it worked. Ryne rubbed her eyes, seeing faint pink lights emitting from it. She then pulled the goggles from her side, putting them to her eyes to focus.

"Oh yeah, whatever it's doing, it's still sending out waves," Ryne warned them.

"Once again, my intuition is flawless," Steel declared, making the two smile. "Let's take it out," he raised his blaster and shot at it, only for the blast to deflect away, disappearing into the distance.

"Of course they'd stick a shield on it. Stand back," Ryne told the two, who took a few steps back as Ryne lifted her hand, watching the blue energy crackle to life, reflecting in her eyes. She then threw it up, and it smashed against the shield. She pushed against it, but the shield didn't give. "Damn, that's annoying. What's even the point of these powers?" she complained, more to herself than them.

"We'll have to go up there," Steel realised. Devon nodded.

"Easy," he went to go to the ladder, but Ryne grabbed him quickly.

"Whoa, careful!" she exclaimed, pulling him back from it. "The thing is electrified, probably from the Memory Pulsator thing," Ryne warned him, hearing the low hum.

"What do we do?" Steel groaned.

"If we can find the power shut-off, it'll disconnect the electricity," Devon suggested, frowning up at the tower that was frustratingly impenetrable.

"If you're gonna do that, do it fast. We don't have time to wait. I'm gonna start climbing now," Steel decided. "I'm half-robot, so I might make it," he told them, and both frowned at him warily.

"Steel, there's no telling what all that electricity would do to you," Ryne shook her head, not liking the idea. "It could fry your circuits, you might not survive," she said, staring up at him.

"We don't have a choice," Steel was grim. "We have to stop the Avatars from whatever they're planning, and return everyone to normal," he said. Ryne started to protest, and he put a hand on her head. "I'll be fine," Steel said with such confidence that Ryne started to believe him.

"Good luck, Steel," Devon nodded, and Steel walked over to the ladder. He hesitated for a beat, before reaching out and gripping a rung. He groaned as the electricity surged through him, but began to climb regardless. "Come on," Devon told Ryne, and the two hurried off back inside and down the stairs.

"Hey," they skidded to a stop when they saw the man in charge of the station scowling, not recognising them. "What are you doing-"

"Where's the main electric shutdown?" Devon interrupted the man, frantic. "It's an emergency!" he warned.

"You shouldn't-"

"Please," he stopped at Ryne's scared voice, and he looked at her.

"It's down there," he pointed down a corridor, and his eyes widened in fear. Vargoyle's laughter echoed down the corridor.

"You can run, but you can't hide," he taunted as they stared at him.

"Get everybody out," Devon told the man, who nodded and ran off.

"Even without your memories, you're still a good leader," Ryne told him with a faint smile as they turned to face Vargoyle.

"I'm the leader?" Devon was surprised by her words.

"You should've stayed away, kid," Vargoyle taunted. "Your robot friend will shock himself into oblivion as I destroy you!" he declared.

"Half-robot," Ryne corrected him, glaring at the monster.

"And my friends have taught me a few tricks," Devon added. "It's Morphin' time!" he shouted, and both he and Ryne activated their wristcoms, bringing in their Morphers.

"ACTIVATE BEAST POWER, HA!" they Morphed, and Devon inhaled sharply at the power that flooded through him as his suit appeared. Vargoyle gave an irritated growl, seeing both the Red and Pink Rangers Morphed, before there was a loud beep.

"Huh? My Beast Powers!" he realised furiously. "Scrozzle! My Morph-X is low!" he shouted into his own communication device.

'Looks like you've only got enough for your Squirrel Reflexes. I'll send more if you say please,' Scrozzle sang back at him, delighting in holding the power over his creation. However, the communication ended abruptly, as Scrozzle gave a shout.

"I don't think so," Blaze smirked as he snatched the Morph-X from Scrozzle's hand.

"What are you doing?!" Scrozzle demanded. He reached out to grab it, but Asher shoved him backwards. "Vargoyle needs that Morph-X, or he could be destroyed!" he shouted at the three.

"Oh no," Blaze gasped overdramatically.

"Wouldn't that be tragic?" Roxy drawled.

"Heartbreaking, I don't know how we'd cope," Asher agreed, the three turning back to Scrozzle as he gave a noise of realisation.

"Oh! I get it!" he exclaimed as they laughed.

"Nothing? Really?" Vargoyle snarled when nothing came through for him. "You traitors!" he yelled furiously.

"What, the bad guys betraying each other?" Ryne gave a mocking gasp, her hand to her mouth and brushing her helmet. "Like I haven't heard that story a billion times," she rolled her eyes. Vargoyle turned his attention back to them.

"Fortunately, I'm still more than a match for you," he snapped at the pair.

"Transport!" Devon put an uncertain hand to his transporter, which flashed green. "I might not remember being a Ranger, but I can still handle a fight!" he declared as he grabbed his blaster.

"Transport!" Ryne grabbed her Beast Spinners as they appeared in front of her, and she moved into a fighting stance. "It's all muscle memory. Once you get into the flow, your body will remember, even if you don't," she told Devon.

"Bring it, kids!" Vargoyle challenged.

"Beast Blast!" Devon fired a powerful blast, and Ryne threw her chakrams to follow-up. However, Vargoyle dodged Devon's shot, using the Squirrel Reflexes that the data chip gave him. He then knocked the Beast Spinners out of the air, running at the pair and swinging his sword at them. Ryne dropped down to dodge it as Devon flipped backwards.

"Wow, it really is a muscle memory," he muttered as he backed away. Ryne's Beast Spinners then returned to her hands as they lit up blue, and she swung out at Vargoyle.

"I'll beat you with your own Beast Power!" Vargoyle vowed, turning to Ryne and dodging her attacks. When he would retaliate, Ryne used her own Beast Power to dodge, and Devon ran in using his super-speed. However, as he did, Vargoyle kicked him backwards, and Devon gave a yell, hitting the ground stunned.

"Dammit," Ryne threw herself between the two. She'd warned Devon about the side-effect of his Beast Power - taking a hit of any kind would put him out of commission. She blocked Vargoyle's attacks and threw out her chakrams, dodging the blasts he fired at her. Ryne breathed heavily, her chest burning from the exertion as she threw attack after attack at her enemy. Both used the Squirrel Beast Power to try and dodge, but occasionally landed blows, and Ryne cried out as she hit the wall.

"Stop!" Devon pushed himself back to his feet, only to flinch as white lights surrounded his head, and he inhaled sharply. "I remember everything now! He did it!" Devon grinned as his memories returned to him. "Steel, my memories are back!" Devon contacted their Silver Ranger, but didn't hear a response. "Steel? Come in Steel!" he pleaded, but Steel didn't reply.

"Devon, look out!" Ryne's cry earned his attention, and Devon looked up to see her struggling in Vargoyle's grasp. The monster had turned his blaster on the distracted Red Ranger, firing several shots that Devon deflected with his sword.

"You're strong, Red Ranger. But not strong enough to beat me," he declared, and grunted when Ryne slammed her boots against his chest, forcing him to release her. Ryne flipped backwards, stopping beside Devon.

"Good to have you back," she told him, and he nodded.

Ravi grunted as he slid the last of the Mega Transporters that they'd brought down from Nate's lab into the back of the car.

"That's the last one," he announced.

"Great," Blaze hid his triumphant smirk.

"So, what's the plan for these Mega Transporters?" Ravi asked as they stepped away from the large blue crystal-like devices.

"Oh, well-" before the Avatars could explain, the four standing opposite them flinched, lights surrounding their heads.

"Something's wrong," Asher warned as they all groaned. The four then recovered, and moved into fighting stances when they saw the three Avatars standing opposite them.

"What the heck is going on?!" Zoey demanded, baffled.

"We were just leaving," Roxy smirked, and before they could stop the three, they'd vanished, taking the Mega Transporters with them.

"They just stole our Mega Transporters," Ravi groaned.

"With our help, apparently," Lewis groaned as his head throbbed.

Ryne and Devon faced down Vargoyle, both worn out and exhausted from the tough fight, but neither were about to give up.

"Ryne, can you get me an opening?" Devon whispered to her, and Ryne nodded. She took a breath, letting her powers charge up again.

"It won't do much to him, but I can distract him," she told the leader.

"Go!" he shouted, throwing his blaster out in front of him. Ryne thrust out her hand with a grunt, and Vargoyle was forced back from the power that slammed into him. Devon then rushed in using his super-speed, cutting across his chest with his sword. With a yell, Devon then threw his hand back, combining his weapons to make the Beast-X Cannon. "Beast-X Cannon, ready!" he took aim at Vargoyle as Ryne did the same with her own weapon.

"Beast-X Cannon, blast!" the two Rangers chorused, squeezing the triggers at the same time. Bright energy burst from their weapons, slamming into Vargoyle and making him shriek.

"Your time is up, Vargoyle," Devon declared.

"I…I don't believe it!" he roared as red electricity burst from his body like lightning, making the lights above flicker. He then exploded, making the building shatter as the walls around him crumbled.

"And that's for messing with my friends," Devon said quietly.

After finding Steel motionless and unresponsive on the roof of the building, Devon and Ryne managed to return him to Grid Battleforce, and Nate frantically worked to help him.

"What happened to him?" Ravi asked as they gathered around. They were already horrified at themselves for helping the Avatars, and now Steel was in trouble.

"He climbed up the electrified tower to destroy the Pulsator," Devon explained.

"I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen. He knew we needed the Pulsator destroyed as soon as we could…but…" Ryne couldn't stop the tears that ran down her face, feeling guilty. She'd retained her memories like Steel, but she felt completely useless.

"Hey, you guys did what you could when we had our memories messed with," Ravi put an arm around her, trying to reassure her. "This isn't your fault," he told her, but Ryne didn't respond, not believing his words.

To their frustration, as Nate worked to save his brother, their wristcoms beeped loudly.

'Rangers, we have an incoming Gigadrone,' Commander Shaw warned them gravely. 'Deploying Zords,' she said.

"Roger that," Ravi answered. "Come on," he said to Ryne, Zoey and Devon, who nodded.

"Hey, if anyone can fix your brother, it's you," Zoey told Nate, who hadn't spoken as he scanned Steel desperately. "I believe in you," she said, squeezing his arm gently.

"We all do," Devon agreed.

"You can do it," Ryne wiped away her tears and managed a faint smile, before following the others out.

The four Zords raced to the co-ordinates that Commander Shaw had sent them, waiting for the Gigadrone that was due to arrive any second. As soon as they reached the area, a Gigadrone appeared in the air above them with a crack of thunder, landing heavily enough to send a tremor through the city.

"Beast-X Megazord, combine!" Devon shouted. They all quickly input the codes to combine their Zords, forming the more powerful Megazord.

"Beast-X Megazord, unleashed!" they shouted, and grabbed their sword.

"Watch out!" Ryne spotted the Gigadrone moving its weapons to face them. They pushed forwards, weaving around the shots fired at them. The Megazord rattled, making them groan, but the Rangers kept going.

"Back at ya!" Devon shouted, and they swung the sword down hard, cutting through the gun aimed at them.

"Powering Beast-X Blade!" Zoey started to charge their sword.

"Charging main weapons," Ravi joined her, funnelling energy into their final burst attack.

"Forcefield!" Ryne slammed the button with her fist, and they hit the Gigadrone with a forcefield that surrounded it, trapping it and stopping it from moving.

"Transport Cheetah Beast Blaster!" Devon raised his hand and hit his transporter. In a flash of green, the blaster appeared in his hands. "Beast-X Hyperstrike!" he squeezed the trigger, and the Megazord cut through the Gigadrone with one final powerful strike. It groaned as it fell forwards, exploding.

"Virus, eliminated," the four chorused, all grim as their minds remained on Steel.

Without waiting, the Rangers rushed back to base, barely taking the time to settle their Zords before they leapt out, ignoring shouts from their Beast Bots. The four didn't speak, all thinking the same thing. They had to get back to Nate and Steel.

Nate was still frantically working as they reached his base, pulling the cables out from where he'd connected them to Steel, who was still lying motionless on the table.

"Initiate Reboot Sequence," Nate pleaded, his voice shaking. However, Steel didn't move. "Please work!" Nate pleaded, his eyes burning with the tears he hadn't shed. All five were silent, before there was a whirring sound and yellow lights lit up behind Steel's visor.

"Nate!" Steel exclaimed when Nate threw his arms around him.

"You really scared me, buddy," Nate told him, too relieved to be mad at him for scaring him.

"You scared all of us," Ryne said, wiping her eyes.

"I'm sorry," Steel apologised, a little quieter than normal. He could see the relief in all of them, and knew he'd scared them. "Hey, did all your memories get fixed?" he asked, looking at them quickly as he remembered what had happened.

"You aced it!" Devon exclaimed, smiling at him. "The Memory Pulsator is history," he told the Silver Ranger.

"You're a true hero, Steel," Ravi told him seriously.

"Just never scare us like that again, okay?" Ryne demanded, and her hands sparked a little when she emphasised her words.

"I won't," Steel promised.

"How are you feeling?" Nate asked, his voice still shaking from the fear of almost losing him.

"I'm fine," Steel insisted, before lowering his head. "But my plant didn't make it. I couldn't take care of little Spot," he admitted.

"Yes, Devon told me," Nate couldn't help but smile as he thought about it. "But Steel, you saved the entire city!" he pointed out.

"Ryne helped. I couldn't have done it without her," Steel shook his head, still dejected.

"It was thanks to you that the Memory Pulsator was destroyed, Steel," Ryne told him, still feeling useless.

"But I never would have gotten that far without you," he told her seriously. Ryne was quiet, looking down.

"Steel's right. You both saved us all," Devon spoke up, and Ryne looked up at him with a frown. "If it wasn't for you both, I wouldn't have come back. And it was you that defended us from Vargoyle when we lost our wristcoms," he pointed out, and Steel nodded. Ryne relaxed a little, feeling a little better.

"You both did amazing," Nate said.

"Really?" Steel also sounded like he felt a little better.

"I'm sorry I didn't think that you could look after a pet," Nate apologised, thinking about their discussion before the events of the day. It suddenly seemed so trivial. "So if you want…"

"I can have a pet?" Steel asked, shocked, and Nate nodded, smiling brightly. "Well…I've been thinking…and I think that Ryne was right," he decided, and Ryne tilted her head, confused.

"I…was? About what?" she asked, not sure what he meant.

"We have a lot of duties as Rangers. If something happened like today, I couldn't look after a pet," Steel decided. "Maybe in future, but for now…I don't think I can give a pet all the care it needs," he told them, and Nate's smile grew wider.

"That's really amazing of you, Steel," he praised, and Steel nodded his head.

"But…could I maybe get another plant?" he asked hopefully, making them laugh.

"Sure thing," Nate agreed, happy to give Steel whatever he wanted.

"Well, good news and bad news," they looked around as Lewis walked in, followed by Ben and Betty. "The good news is, it doesn't look like the Avatars stole anything else when they were here," he said, looking exhausted and stressed. As soon as their memories had returned, Commander Shaw had the three working to find out what had gone on while they'd thought Blaze, Asher and Roxy were the Rangers.

"What's the bad news?" Ryne frowned.

"They got away with the three Mega-Transporters, and we've no idea what they want them for," Lewis was grim, and the group fell quiet, wondering just what the Avatars had wanted that would cause them to go to the lengths they had of erasing everyone's memories.

"The mission was a success," Roxy smirked, gesturing to the Mega Transporters that now sat on the table nearby.

"Three Mega Transporters, collected by yours truly, ready for whatever you desire," Asher looked gleeful at their victory.

"Stealing them from the heart of Grid Battleforce was risky, but hey, it's what we do," Blaze shrugged.

"Did you sabotage the stasis pod?" Evox asked, glossing over their arrogant boasts.

"Yes," Roxy confirmed as she turned back to Evox, having been admiring the Mega Transporters. "The next phase of our plan is ready," she told him.

"Excellent," Evox started to laugh, his cackles echoing as their anticipation over his plan was clear.

I hope you liked it!
