Summary: Jack, Ralph and the others return to the island. Just not in the usual way.

Chapter 3

They had been stalking their younger self for at least two day now and it was very boring work. Their younger self had been so boring. With their minds filled with only talks of hunting and building. It was very boring. But then again they were 12 and stuck on an island of course their talks would have been boring.

"Do you think it's possible to save Piggy…." Roger, who sat beside Jack stopped in his sentence, blinked, then continued. "I mean James too?"

They had learned his name when they had returned from the island 10 years ago. It had been James not Piggy as most called him. His name had been James. It was surprising to have learned that for Roger. He always assumed the boy's name had been Piggy all the time they had been on the island. Not once had the fat boy corrected any of them by speaking his real name. Even Ralph and Simon, who were Piggy, James, friends had not known his actual name until they had returned to civilization. It was really sad. If no one knew his name, Roger knew he would have been very sad. He was glad when their plane had landed on the island he had all his friends with him.

"I…" Jack replied, turning to look away from their younger selves down below. He had a frown on his face. Simon was easy to save. All they had to do in the dark of the night was wear their invisible clock which his future self had bought from a london based company called "Invisibility shield Co". It had been from a kickstarter or something whatever that meant. Either way like his machine the cloak worked. So his future self had added it in their items to take with them.

Anyways the plan to save Simon was very simple. While the children were hitting the young boy, Jack and the team would slide in put some knock out gas near Simon nose and when he fell quickly pushed him out to sea and while his body was being taken by the tide another team was going to grab him and placed him beneath their invisible cloak then quickly hurried him to their misshift based not far from the event location.

There in their misshift camp the medic team would get to work on healing and bring back to life the young boy, his cousin. He had decided not to travel with the younger boy to the future because he wasn't interested in messing up their timeline too much just yet. This even though he never told the others was just a test run. After they had saved Simon and the new timeline settled in he was planning to help save Piggy. Roger deserved better. It was just his future self that had projected it been a very difficult task to do. It was not like Simon whose death was more than likely from blood loss and drowning. No, they had all seen Piggy's skull cracked up by the rock. He was dead alright. Piggy was not Simon and thus he could not lie to his friend.

"I…" Jack continued, a deep sorrow in his eyes. Seeing it Roger looked away. He had his answer. He was going to be a killer, a sinner, forever then. While the others could escape it seems he could not. He felt tears almost walling up in his eyes but he held them back. Not that Jack would have cared. He had seen him cry before. It was just that he didn't want to cry at the moment though he felt like crying. "I can't promise anything….but…."

"But?" Roger questioned feeling hope entered his heart. Could it be? Could he escape his weteched past? Could he escape being a killer?

"But it requires some things that I am not sure would work just yet." Jack finished looking away from the other boy. He had not told them that sometime in the future he was going to tell his younger self about this plan and give him the blueprints on how to build the machine or even about his future self journals and the one he himself had started detailing everything. It was his younger self's decision whether Piggy was saved or not. Not this vision him choice. The same way it had not been his older self's choice to save simon or not but his. It was the rules of time travel after all. And he planned to at least try. But nevertheless he also knew he might fail. One victory was better than none. So he simply told his friend the truth.

"I see…"Roger said looking down at his own folded hands. It was not impossible but it might be as well. So he should not get his hopes up. Time traveling was a tricking matter or so he remembered reading during those 3 months. He had read the time machine and other such books like it. He wondered after he had read some of them if a butterfly effect would happen like in the books somewhere on the earth because of their acts with time. But then he remembered Jack had not looked worried so he assumed he was not to worry too. Jack always knew how to handle things even back on the island 10 years ago. It was why he followed the other boy and did not tried to overtake him. He knew his busy when he wanted to. He was a good leader. He was confused why Ralph and Simon didn't see that. Jack was an excellent leader who always placed his followers first. "But you will try?"

"Yes…." Jack said. His eyes were distant as he calculated his next move. "I will try but I am not promising you anything."

Roger nodded. It was all he needed. Jack always kept his words to him. It was why he loved the other boy, man, like his own heart. Jack could be trusted. Just like in choir and on the island. And even now. Jack could be trusted.

"Hmm…." Roger said before getting up from his position next to the red haired man. "I trust your judgment, Chief."

With that the black haired boy, man, departed from their hiding spot among the brushes. Before he left he placed his invisible cloak on fully so as to not be spotted by their younger self. Jack watched him go, a frown on his face and a twinkle in his eyes. Roger had called him chief. He had not heard that name since the island. He found he liked being called chief again. It was nice. The feeling only lasted so long before a dreadful one took over.

For a brief moment as he watched Roger disappeared he felt a flash of a memory. A memory he didn't recall having before. A memory, a vision, of being called chief again by everyone on the island, even Piggy. He had not told the others but he had begun to have visions like these since his older self and him had touched the first time they met. Visions of things that were not. He wondered what it meant.
