Summary: Jack, Ralph and the others return to the island just not in the normal way.
Chapter 4
Jack starred himself across the way as he lit the tree on fire. And the memories of the fire death on the island came back to haunt him. He looked in the direction of Ralph and Roger's location, they were the two accomplishing him in this task. What task? Why the mulberry mark kid rescue task of course. He had bought Ralph because the mulberry kid would have been comfortable with him and Roger….. because well why not?
"So we just grab him while everyone is panicking and return back to base with him then?" Roger questioned through his ear piece.
They had forgotten about the mulberry mark kid and it was not until Bill had brought him up that they remembered. Simon and Piggy had not been the only ones on the island that had lost their lives. So here they were once more again three weeks before the event, ready to kidnap a kid who in their original timeline was considered dead. He sometimes wanted to find his younger self and punch him in the face. But then he recalled he had cried that day, alone, when he had heard the news, So he forgave his younger self.
"Yeah." Jack replied unable to see either Roger or Ralph but knowing they were there. The invisible cloak was very good at its job. He was glad his future self had sent a blueprint for building it from the future. "We just grab and go."
"Then what?" Ralph questioned. "Do we take him with us to the future or sneak him back to his home? I mean what do we do with him?"
Jack frowned. Of course he had not thought much about it. He had just wanted to save the kid's life. It was just two hours ago they had formed this plan. After all, the mulberry kid rescue was the easiest to do. No one saw him die or burn to death.
"We will figure it out later and work from there." He answered. "But first we grab him and go."
"Right." Ralph answered after a pause.
He was so afraid. The flames surrendered him and wanted to devour him. Where was Ralph and the others? He was so scared, he began to cry, snot running down his nose. He was supposed to be a big kid now, he was six for pete sake but he didn't care. All he could think about was that he was about to be burned alive. What a horrible way to go.
"Mummy?!" He screamed not caring he was on an island far away in the ocean. He wanted his mummy and daddy. He wanted to go home. "Help! Mummy!"
His screams and cries began louder and louder as the flames grew around him. He could no longer see the other children he had been with anymore. They had already ran away.
"Mummy?! Ralph?" He called and to his surprise he heard a man voice answered not very far from him as the fire was put out near a tree to his right with what appeared to be white forms, like the ones he saw once in a fire station.
"Yes?" The man answered and all of a sudden three young men appeared before the mulberry mark kid, Joseph, eyes. One was blond, one red haired and one black haired. They looked like Ralph and Jack and Roger but older and Joseph wondered if he was dead?
"Ralph?" The six year old called as the three men approached him. All three had a fire extinguisher in hand and were systematically putting out the flames around him. They looked bored. Over their shoulders was what looked like a cloak.
"Yes?" The blond one answered, approaching him before bending down and picking him up. He had handed his fire extinguisher to the red haired one. There was a gentle smile on his face. For a moment Joseph believed he was Ralph. Then he remembered that Ralph was 12 and not a man yet. "You call?"
"But…" The mulberry mark kid muttered all of a sudden scared. His parents had warned him about stranger danger after all. And this man, men, were strangers. "You can't be Ralph."
"Oh he's Ralph alright." The red haired said from behind the blonde one drawing Joseph to him. "He's just grown up is all."
"Oh." The boy said unsure how the red haired men thought that would convince him somehow. He knew Ralph and this was not him. But the men didn't seem to be there to kill him but to rescue him so he decided to ask a question. "And who are you supposed to be?"
"Jack." The red haired boy answered, an assumed smile on his face. He seems to find his statement funny because he laughed. "And this dark haired one is Roger. You remember Roger right?"
Joseph nodded his head. Of course he remembered Roger. Roger threw stones at him once. He had not liked it.
"So he's Ralph and you are Jack and he is Roger?" The six year old questioned. His head hurt already just thinking about it. But the three did not look like they were lying.
"Yes." The blond one that had declared himself Ralph said. "We came to rescue you."
He all of a sudden looked sad as he looked at him then away.
"Oh." Joseph said and a smile appeared on his face. He was glad they had rescued him. He was very sacred. "Thanks."
"You are welcome." The dark haired one spoke for the first time. "Now can we go?" He finished as he looked towards the red haired one, Jack. Jack nodded at him and the mulberry kid felt the blond haired man begin to move in the direction they appeared but not before putting on the cloak he had over his shoulders over them both. To the mulberry kid's surprise the other two did the same and suddenly they were nowhere to be seen. He almost fainted but Ralph as if sensing his shock whispered.
"It's an invisible cloak like in those fantasy novels back at school." The blond haired man said and Joseph shrugged his shoulders. He didn't remembered those books but at least he had an answered.
"Neat." He answered as they moved further and further from the burning trees and towards the mountains.
