15: Outpost

Link spent his first day observing his surroundings, trying to find something helpful. Getting imprisoned wasn't part of his plans but since he came here, he hoped to find out more, like why a Hylian rebel group decided to camp out in Gerudo Desert?

As the sun travelled across the sky and the heat rose, Link's lips dried out and his throat became parched. The old man offered him the last of his canteen and Link denied it, not wanting to take from his elders.

"Hero of Twilight, we are made a bit differently and well if I wasn't unsure of our risk of death I would take my secrets to the grave as instructed by my Queen but I think you ought to know." The old man revealed.

Link leaned up against a nearby barrel and listened.

"The Rieka clan were all formerly Twili people from the twilight realm, offered solace by the goddesses for our queen's sacrifice and help in saving the world of light from one of her own people as you very well know already having helped her."

"Did Midna… pass on already?" Link asked quietly.

"Not yet, the twilight realm is slowly imploding in on itself because of how much light from the Queen's travels came back with her after she closed the rift between our worlds. She didn't even realize what had happened until it was too late. She didn't want to lose everyone and so she worked on recreating the mirror of twilight and forced us all to go through and make a new life of our own, leaving her son in charge as now the former king…honestly, I applaud her bravery but there was no guarantee that once we crossed over we would die from the light or be forced to live in the shadows of this world. At first, we were forced into the shadows but after some time, the light spirits visited us with a message from the goddesses that if we could leave behind our conquest for a power she would let us live peacefully among the rest of you and thus we became Hylian. And like you know we are simple travelling merchant folk now." The elder finished his tale.

"... Why did Midna stay behind and not come through after everyone was gone?" Link mused.

"I don't know, hero," replied the elder.

Link thanked him for the information and went back to observing the camp while considering his old friend, there had to be a reason for her to stay if she planned to die by herself once her people were safe.

Link filed the information in the back of his thoughts, later he would seek out their ex-king as he would now be the only one with the potential power of creating a mirror to the realm.

Princess Astraea of Miykal had been best friends with Prince Rhett of Hyrule since they were little as their mother's were close friends and she had been told since she was 10 that one day when she turned of age at 17 that she would be engaged to Rhett.

She grew concerned when she hadn't heard from him in two weeks that she went to investigate what had happened to the post.

She personally stopped by the castle post and asked to talk to the postmaster.

"Your Highness, what can I do for you?" the elderly man asked while making her wait 5 minutes for him to be located.

"I would like to know the status of mail going between us and Hyrule" she ventured.

His expression turned a bit sour as he hedged on how to inform her…

"I'm sorry, Princess but mail has been stopped between us and Hyrule for the foreseeable future…" he muttered.

"... I see, please excuse me I have to talk to my father" she replied stiffly before leaving to find where her father was.

She located him with her mother looking over documents in what would be the royal war room and she got a bit of a dreaded feeling before approaching them.

"I have just been informed that mail between us and Hyrule has been stopped, indefinitely?" she prompted.

"We were just about to call you… yes we are now at war with Hyrule '' King Orian acknowledged.

Astraea pursed her lips, this wasn't going to be good.

"What of our alliance with Hyrule and my upcoming engagement?" she queried.

"...Dusana, and Yedida are also at war with Hyrule and offered us a substantial financial relief proposal as you know our crops aren't doing well and our people are growing hungry. I had to make a choice that benefitted us." He divulged.

"What did you do?" she uttered furious now.

"You will now be marrying Prince Weylin of Dusana instead of the heir to Hyrule…" He informed her of their decision.

Astraea glared at her father, knowing better than to protest like a child so instead she excused herself and went back to her rooms, she needed to plan on what to do as she was not going to be sold to Dusana.

With preparations complete, General Draven sent his final messengers to their allies to move into Hyrule on their respective borders.

He wondered if the Hylian army was already stationed and ready to meet with them on the battlefield or if the King was unprepared for such an invasion of this kind?

He had collectively gathered Dusana, Miykal, Yedida, Belrynna, and Orbitian against Hyrule and their collective only had one kingdom as an ally that had a small army which was Hytopia.

Their only chance was to use their magic relic against them but he was sure that the pieces of their holy triangle were currently scattered….

When the oracle of seasons passed away and the royal family of Holodrum had asked for their assistance they were denied by the king of Hyrule.

It was too bad about Princess Rosa and the Suborsia entourage but maybe she found a way to make it back on her own. Time would tell, because even though he didn't inform her of his entire plan, he was sure that she was intelligible enough to know that staying in Hyrule wouldn't be advisable if she planned on staying alive.

One of his lieutenants marched up and reported that they had sent in the first platoon to the nearest outskirt town.

"Leave no one standing. I wanna send a message to the king that I mean business" he instructed the young man before going to look over his map of Hyrule's terrain again, they needed to make a decent amount of movement towards the capitol if they wanted to invade properly. More time to mobilize soldiers would hurt his investments.

Linkle and Quartz were well on their way to making it back to Hyrule field when she led him to one of the faster ways of leaving the lake area.

"What is that?" Quartz asked, visually sweating.

"Well, since Lake Hylia formed into a canyon area before my grandfather's time, this is one of three ways of getting out of this area and this one is by far the most time efficient." she explained, hoping it wasn't going to be a big deal.

They stood near the center of the lake in front of the official canon ride by Fyer… it wasn't the ideal way of getting out of the canyon but it was definitely the less time consuming, as they would either have to take the river upwards from the large waterfall or climb the jagged cliffs, by using an old rickety staircase that Linkle was sure was out of commission…

Quartz huddled near her knees as he appeared to be able to shrink down his form.

"I'm sorry but I'm terrified of heights" he admitted, scared.

Linkle sweatdropped before patting him on top of his hood, trying to think of a way of convincing him this was the way to go if he wanted to get to Hyrule castle.

In the distance, sounds of metal clanging together were rumbling over the surface of the lake and Linkle turned her attention to the cliffs of Gerudo desert…

She couldn't see anything concrete but she had never heard as many rings of swords clashing before… something was happening and it was beginning to scare her. The Subrosian had mentioned that they had left behind her general who had personally escorted her to the border and now she was hearing sounds of battle in the direction of their borders with Holodrum….

She had heard from her relatives that her grandfather had already been summoned and was probably already in Castle town but she hoped that nothing major had happened. They were in an era of peace and her grandfather was too old to be saving them from unknown evils.

"Farore, please keep all those I love safe in these uncertain times, and do not expect my grandfather to be giving more of his life in service, he worked hard already" she said to a nearby goddess statue that was located at the lake.

The sounds must have reached Quartz's ears as he suddenly stopped panicking and looked in the direction of the desert….

"My Princess is in danger, we must make haste" he proclaimed seriously before fitting himself into one of Linkle's side pouches and took care to secure himself to her as much as possible.

Linkle paid for a ticket and they loaded into the cannon.

A/N: Holodrum is making their move, Link finds out what happened to Midna and is concerned and there's a princess who is determined to marry her childhood friend because why wouldn't she want to live out her remaining days with someone she already knew. Also, Quartz will be ok after he screams a bit :)
